As IF!  I may not be old enough to have seen him play, but I sure know who 'Yaz' is and what he means to BoSox fans!  If that had been me I would have just stared at him in wonder... after he left I would have mumbled something totally unintelligible... then called my Dad and said, 'You'll never guess who I just ran into!  Carl Yastrzemski!'  'Yeah, literally, I ran into him.'  'He was real polite, but all I could do was stare at him in wonderment... I mean HEY! it was YAZ!!!'  Dad would have called me an idiot and said he was disappointed I didn't at least shake his hand!

Good to see you're still around!

Lisa,
Good one!  The Security System is on the way... should be here today... not sure what I'm going to do with it, seeing we don't move in for 30 days!

Morning.  Truck inspected and neighbor's cats fed.  Now to do some work on the boat.  Got big regional transportation meeting this afternoon.  To vote on NC's first toll road.  Big contriversy with some people.  Have a great day.

Brent - In case you don't have a security system for your new house, here's an idea for you and anyone else who needs one!

HOW TO INSTALL A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM

1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16  work boots.

2. Place them on your front porch, along with several empty beer cans,  a copy of Guns & Ammo magazine and several NRA magazines.

3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazine.

4. Leave a note on your door that reads:

Hey Bubba, Big Jim, Duke and Slim, I went to the gun shop for more  ammunition. Back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls -- they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it but it was hard to tell from all the blood.

P.S. - I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside.

Good morning from a cool and grey Chicago where I happily received my last birthday gift in yesterday's mail: a neat little book that is part of the Images of Rail collection: Lost Trolleys of Queens and Long Island - see http://arcadiapublishing.com/  -- lots of great photos in just skimming it. I saw some interesting car types too - a powered water sprinkler like a small Birney - to keep the dust down on the right of way... I also spent last evening perusing the latest Classic Trains magazine - a great article on the CTA running freight - and some steam videos from the 50s - see http://www.trains.com/ctr/default.aspx?c=i&id=2&iid=30

Jim, yes, I admit it, I went to Notre Dame -- it's quite a place - hope that boy enjoys the experience - I could never afford the place now. I think you would enjoy a trolley on the layout - certainly the classic #60 and latest MTH and Lionel offerings with their bumpers would make a nice animated ride - I prefer to drive mine myself - using the correct number of bells for signalling, etc. Wink [;)]

Chuck, with the price of gas the way it is, it may someday make sense to order groceries through Peapod - http://www.peapod.com/ if your area has that delivery service rather than driving to Cambridge. Though they'll always throw in a fuel surcharge anyway - just like has gotten the freight roads in trouble.

Mitch, had the same experience with a flat on our minivan - I couldn't get any leverage with the provided jack to do it myself and had to call AAA finally. I felt humiliated. I felt a little better after they had to finally use power tools to remove the lugs...

Good morning all,

For once the weather has changed as it is cooler and cloudy in SE Indiana with temps in the 60s.  My wife went for a walk and visited an uncle in the hospital (it is only 6 blocks away).  I practiced some more soccer drills and we watched "Veronica Mars".  My wife finally got her new stove in yesterday (very long story).  I see where the dining car already arrived at "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is 64 degrees, with a light rain. We had some thundershowers last night. Going up to 65 today ( ? ). Much cooler. Looks like a wet day.

Today, I have to drive into Cambridge, for the weekly grocery shopping. Not much I can do outside today. May meet a good friend for lunch or coffee. Maybe later, I'll run trains. I probably won't paint the steel bridge until June. Have the daughter and her kids coming down on the 26th.  The 10 year old grandson likes trains. He hasn't seen the new upper level yet. We'll have fun.

Dining Car is here. Time for breakfast. Has " points west " had breakfast yet ? All aboard.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Morning All,

Thanks for all the kind words and congratulations.  Not sure who said it, but yes my son is doomed 'cause he looks just like his Dad and Grandpop.  Poor child...

Before I forget, Happy B-Day [bday]HAPPY BELATEDHappy B-Day [bday] Doug Murphy. Cool trolley.

Things seemed to be back on a more even keel at work.  The full moon or the weather system has passed by. Glad there is only one more full moon cycle in the school year. Of course now I have probably doomed myself by mentioning it.

Last night, got home and we went to vote in the primary. Came home and heard a hissing sound from the left rear tire of the Mrs.'s van. Sure enough the tire was going flat, so I had her pull it out of the garage before it went completely flat so I would have room to work. Tried to use my floorjack to jack it up but it was too small, so I tried the jack that came with the car (what a piece of junk). Finally had to call AAA to change a tire in my own driveway. Either I am getting old, or lazy, or both.  I guess I need to look for a better floor jack.

Well I better get to work, another exciting day ahead.

Evening all,

Warm and beautiful in Southern Ohio.  It may rain tonight, hope so.  I watered the garden to encourage the rain.

Don - Thanks for the laughs.Laugh [(-D]  Those are great.

Doug - Nice trolley!  After running trains on the 600 panels, I was thinking a trolley would look neat running around the town.  Got me thinking about converting a handcar to a trolley.  You mentioned you were a Notre Dame fan.  Did you go there?  A close friend, like a son is going there this fall and real excited.

Got another project, a 583-A electro magnetic crane.  Now find the timeWhistling [:-^].  While waiting to go to work this evening sitting on the back porch with my bride she was talking about adding a patio!  We'll see.  Three more weeks till a break in classes.

Take care

RIP Jerry Falwell.  Didn't always agree with him, but he was an honorable man and stood for what he believed.

John Baker - USA companies don't have the hairy cows (Heeland Coos).  My buddy is into geneology and he got my family back so far I'm like a 20th cousin of Robert the Bruce!  Pretty funny!  Not verified by actual documents though, based on published trees.  Ordered a barn for my regular American style cows for the layout.  I'll need some chickens, too.  Great grandma used to keep chickens in her yard.  She also made great homemade sauerkraut!  My grandad was a plumber and made a corn crib out of leftover pipe.  Bet it is gone for scrap copper now, though!

Don - great stories and jokes!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening all.  Just read that Jerry Farwell has died [on my Yahoo homepage].  Not much train running.  Weedeated the new grass I sowed on the pond bank.  Did some goof off jobs.  Going up to trainroom now.  Wife wanted me to record the Gilmore Girls [last night of series] as she is Raleigh at a play.  Wanted to make sure it worked as I have not done that in a while.  Later

Good evening from my lab class where my students are working on projects so I'm online...

Dennis, great idea about peopling the trolleys - one of the challenges is fitting a light styrene structure around the motor for them to sit. I have even experimented with cutting them off and gluing them to the 'sides' of the car.

Dr. John, The BCR's work good in most engines, I have seen cases where the charge circuit burned out so when you put one in,turn it on and hope. I figure if it works the first time you are ok. Severe storms past through here an hour ago, lots of trees and wires down, another round on the way.I checked my P/U for hale damage seems ok. Tally Ho for now.

Doug - I did a google search for Happy Birthday Trolleys, then just looked at images.  However you can find it much faster by doing the search on Hershey Trolleys.  Glad you liked it.

Mitch - Very nice family picture!

I THINK I got my track cleaned, sure got a lot of stuff off!  Will see about beginning the installation this week-end.  Today going down to San Diego for a presentation to a computer club.  Probably be late night by the time I get back.

Recalculated the distance between tracks in order to run two trains, going to be tight but I think it will work.  Sure, will be in big trouble here if it doesn't.  May have to revise the inventory to skeleton cars.

Regarding the issues when you go to display and run the stuff for guests, I've decided to implement the following;

You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape.  If it doesn't
move  and should, use t he WD-40.  If it shouldn't move and does, use the
duct tape.

Along those lines a few more basic answers to common issues:

 1. If you are choking on an ice cube simply pour a cup of boiling water
down your throat.  Presto!  The blockage will instantly remove itself.

2. Avoid cutting yourself slicing vegetables by getting someone else to
hold while you chop.

3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by using
the sink.

4. For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for
a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins.  Remember to
use a timer.

5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you
from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze
button.

6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you
will be  afraid to cough.

7. Remember: Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

8. Some people are like Slinkies.  Not really good for anything but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

Hope everyone has a great day!

what a way to wake up with a cup a coffe and some laughs...thanks don

Good afternoon from central Alabama where it's warm and muggy today. May get some more rain tomorrow (I hope!).

Mitch - congratulations on your graduation! Hope your dog is feeling better. One of our dachshunds has been down with a gimpy hip this weekend. He's better now - may have been a muscle pull.

Doug - Nice trolley! Thumbs Up [tup]

Sir James - I need to do the same. I've got three older Railking engines with the 9v batteries (probably dead Dead [xx(] ). BCR's seem to be the way to go.

Good afternoon all,

Feeling lazy today, sitting here at the computer trying to work up the ambition to start on the TMCC conversion of my ABA Williams LNE FA units.  Did a little outside work this morning after voting in the PA primary.  Mostly local except some statewide judges.  Over half the candidates are unopposed.  I don't even bother to vote for those, if they get one vote they are in.  Township supervisors and County commisioners are the hot races this time around.  Some idiot has come up with the weirdest voting machine ever for our district.  Cross between a computer and a toddlers toy.  Has a screen and a dial with several buttons.  It is neither intuitive for computer users nor non-computer users.  You can do a paper ballot in about 1/4 the time it takes to maneuver through all the screens on this rig.

Don, Why not install one of those battery eliminators for your cho-cho sounds as well as the camera?  Then you won't have to worry about batteries running down.

Chief, Did you just invent a new word?  Weedeated? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Mitch, Nice family picture.  Enjoy this special time.

Looks like zeke has joined John Baker with the animated smilies.

I copied this one from zeke.

Take care,

CONCERNED ABOUT TOO MANY CARBS IN YOUR DIET?

For those of you who watch what you eat,
here's the final word on nutrition and health.
It's a relief to know the truth
after all those conflicting

1. The Japanese eat very little fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than
Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats

CONCLUSION

Eat and drink what you like.

Afternoon everyone.  Not much happening in this neck of the woods.  Have a few big cases scheduled over the next couple of days.  Sure keeps things interesting.  Did my board certification and state license recert today.  Lots of paperwork, but I am glad to get it all out of the way.

Chief, enjoy your day with the trains.  I envy you.  I may get some time in this afternoon with the kids helpWhistling [:-^]  We shall see.  Sometimes the help makes two steps back for every step forward, but I would not have it any other way.  They are only young for a little while.

Doug, not sure how they measure up, but perhaps the new passengers from RMT would look good in your trolley.  The other thing would be to use HO scale folks for the ride.

Hope everyone has a great day,

Dennis
