LAZ:  Sorry to hear about your loss...Maybe Chief should fly you GIZ out to finish up his soundboard....and the benchwork for the Mayor's Office.

Jaabat:  Buy it, smile and say thank you.  You'll eventually go back, and not be so fortunate.

Nose squirt:  Projecting a liquid thru you nose, that was origionally on it's intended path to your stomach.  Typically while holding back laughter.  How's that?

Greetings again,

RT,  Sorry about not getting a chance to meet you. the kids kept us going till after dark each day and by then it was shower and bed.And I don't  need to tell you how hot and humid it was as you are there. I took a water ride in the AM at dollywood, got wet, and was still wet when the place closed .Humidity had to be 200%. Rode the steam train all the women complained about the soot. Also saw while traveling around CSX & NS and a plymouth switcher at the toledo waterfront.

Drank sweet tea remembering my grandmother making it. Very good except I think I am going to get pimples from the sugar. No Grits, noway, no how.

Passing through the house.  Mowing as it rained last night and grass needs it.  LAZ, sorry for the loss [been there and going to be again soon with 17 yr old Pek].  Buckeye, you need to take top off of unit, redo the whole operation.  Think she has charred to the element.  I get that occasionally.  If it still has the sleeve on it, you know what to do.  Repack with pink [your invention].  Can check for a bad solder joint on board or a loose wire.  Bet it is charred.  OH, flooded will act the same but holding the 9 down will char the wicking.  Later

Laz, Sorry to hear about your dog. Nearly lost Boco (5 year old Golden Retriver) a few months back. Very lucky that he pulled through.

Helped lay 4.2 Tons of floor screed today! Had to barrow it up from the front of the house to the back yard where the Gamesroom is. The floor screed crew have offered me a permanent job as a labourer...I graciously declined Wink [;)].

Also layed screed in the conservatory which is the final part of the house we have to finish. Just have to lay tiles when the "management" choose themWhistling [:-^]

MIL is dancing a jig that the FIL's pool table has finaly moved out after 5 years (its in the garage now) in the conservatoryBig Smile [:D].

(Wow MIL must be pleased, She just brought me a big bowl of apple crumble and custard!)

Pic of Gamesroom floor.

Have a good evening

So far, no one has replied negatively to my question regarding the cheap post war price here. But over at everybody's favorite bastion of sanity, the OGR forum, I've had two different people reply negatively for not paying full worth.  One used a vulture icon to get his point across. See for yourself here. As payback, I deleted a post over there on how to repair scratched tinplate. Screw them!

No soundboard now.  Ran lawnmower under lawnmower garage after final cut with lightning and thunder overhead.  Rain drops falling hard now!!!! Bow [bow]  all I have to do is make three cuts and bring the sheets in.  I will do without for this downpour. Approve [^]  Beating rain against the windows.  Thank the Lord.

I really should stop posting there. I can't think of a single thread on OGR that I actually learned anything useful from. It is fun to watch them pontificate about legal and business matters though. Always good for a laugh. And when the purple coolaiders and orange coolaiders clash in a ca-ca-ca-catfight, I ROTFLMAO! Laugh [(-D]

Dang Chief - You stole my thunder and lightning and RAIN Banged Head [banghead]- Well, it's cloudy and 12 degrees cooler than yesterday. (It's 90 now).  Had a storm approaching from the west - it dropped to the south and what was left heading toward me just disappeared off the radar.  Sure could use some of that wet stuff.  My grass has turned brown again.  Tomato, squash, cucumbers and beans have all died - or rather should I say roasted.

Just saw where a tornado hit Brooklyn - no details as yet - just some video.  Hope no one was hurt.

Cool, Lisa! Cooked vegetables right IN the garden!

It's been raining here all day. Good for the lawn. It also means instead of playing outside, the kids have to play inside - in the train room.

The stuff  is FOR SALE.  They want someone to buy it.  Someone will...Why not you?  It would be difficult to approve if you just load up your really old , but very worthy Chevy, and resell the stuff, but approved the same.

Passing through again.  Sun came out and no clouds close by.  Ran out and put up saw benches, plywood backing on top, roller stands up, cut three sheets and put up tools in case it rains again.  So humid now with wet grass and etc, I look like I stood in the rain.  Bringing sheets in and gluing down.  Will have one side covered in a few. Approve [^]

Whew! Finally home from over 2 weeks on the road. Just like our disaster trip home from Chicago early last week, my flight from Baltimore to Dallas last night took about 8 hours - 9 if you include the miserable baggage service. Plane pulled from gate at 1:50 and then we sat on the tarmac until about 5:30 or 6 pm.

Laz - sorry to hear about your dog!

Jim A - admit it - you love it over there Mischief [:-,]

Chief - maybe you should consider coming in out of the rain?

Dug out my LCCA goodies from the Chicago convention. Will have to make some pics to post. Also need to prep the pics I took with Doug in Chicago.

Regards, Roy

Grayson, good luck to your brother.  Well, one side is dowm!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Glued and then screwed the soundboard sections [only the three layers with off set seams, not into wood].  Power went off twice.  Storms all around and lightning when I trimmed up the last section.  Put up tools and etc as looked like rain.  NO RAIN. Sad [:(] Has gone around but still zapping close.  Big storm missed us by a couple of miles.  Glad not to get lightning and winds but sure needed the rain.  Going to get pizza at new pizza restaurant [Roseyville now has two].  Usually go for seafood feast while wife is gone [she does not like seafood].  Too dirty and sweaty.  Will eat and then put an additional coat of paint on the soundboard.  Especially the edges tha tI cut.  This will seal it good and will be ready for track. Approve [^]  Then take track up from other side [it is smaller].  Then do the small sections.  That will complete the big room.  Back room should be easier [I hope].

My rules for Celetex Soundstop:

Celetex Soundstop is light weight.  Is dusty but not bad after it is handled some.  Can be cut with utility knife [I have cut it with my lockblade knife].  Saw with fine tooth saw [I used jig saw instead of table saw as saw easy].  Turn sheet upside down from side you want up [due to ragged edges].  Seal with latex paint and it will get harder and no dust.  I used the "printed label" side up.  Will hold deck screws.  Going to use small drywall screws for track.  Do not paint as I did before installing.  Paint makes it "curl" up some.  Unpainted, will flatten [humidity wiil make it curl slightly] and glue down easier [half of my sheets are unpainted and work better].  Put screws into only the sheets of Soundstop [not into the hard wood below].  Paint will make a difference once installed.  I highly recommend this product.  Solid but not too hard.  $9 to $10 a sheet.

Later  [still thunderimg hard but sun is shinnng bright]

Laz,

Sorry to hear about the little beagle. He's in monkey heaven now...

You guys sure made short work of setting up that benchwork. Too bad you don't live closer to the Chief!

Let me ask you guys a question. If you buy a post war item at a hobby/train store for far below what you know it is worth, is it unethical? Is it your responsibility to say, hey, that 2343 set should sell for more than $89.95, I'll pay you 4 times that much? Or do you buy the piece and consider yourself fortunate to have come across it for that price (again in a retail store)? I'm of the mind that if one comes across a deal like that, take advantage of it. It's not my fault if the store owner or the sales person doesn't know or care about it's true worth. Opinons, please - as long as they agree with my own of course. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Jim

Jim,

I feel the same way.  It figures, the minute I shell out $301 for 2343s, cheaper sets seem to appear everywhere.  Oh well, they are worth it.

Hello All!   Don B- Glad your 1688E showed up & that you're happy with it. Just remember what I told you as far as voltage settings on a ZW for your 1688E. It will take off real fast,so be careful. Brent- Jim-A is next on the 1688 list followed by you, & the Chief. Laz- Sorry about the Dog. Sounds like you had some good times together also. Jim A-  There is a Fellow from Erie,Pa by the name of Fred Sipple who used to own his own Train Shop & retired from that a few years ago. Anyway, He comes to shows around here & sells Lionel Trains from about 1970-1998 new in the box & anywhere from one-third to about half off. I picked up some excellent buys from him. He is the one I bought the 50th Anniversary Hudson from that was made in 1988 & the Price on it was $435.00! & I thought Wow! this is a good buy as when they were new they were around $850.00 & $435.00 seemed like an excellent deal. Hi everyone,

My information boycott at OGR has begun. Someone asked how to remove marker lamps before painting a steamer. I didn't answer that all one needs to do is mask them with white glue before painting. And another one wanted to remove yellow marker lights so he could put in green ones...why? Wouldn't it be easier to paint the yellow ones green with a Sharpie and coat them with Future? Yes, it would...but I'm not posting any of this over there. Bwahahahahahahahah

Not much going on here. The kids and I had a McDonald's picnic on the lawn when I got home. Then I sprayed some crab grass, did some chores and next thing ya know ol Jed's a millionaire. I have a Lionel box car soaking in superclean but it isn't budging the graphics after 2 hours.

Good Evening,

Laz, Sorry to hear about your buddy.

The Williams A-B-A that I converted to TMCC has died. When powered up all I can get are headlights and couplers. No sounds or motion. To late this evening to start tearing it apart so will wait till I have a couple of hours to try to trouble shoot it.

Have plenty of engines to run so not a big deal.

Chief, So what is the status of the Sound Board Project? Half way yet?   BTW, we had 1.8" of rain yesterday in four separate showers.  It had a chance to really soak in.

Went to Circus Days at the PA RR Museum yesterday with daughter and 3 grandkids. Very nice display. Here is a sample.

Take care,

Just got back from the hospital. Apperently, he has a pin in his femur, and a broken cheek bone and scratched face. He is under heavy pain medication now, and will sit up when you talk to him, (no no to that, nurses have to push him back down, he aint awake, but it makes him stimulated). He is getting plastic surgery in the morning on his face.

Well, I'm off the the chatroom, talk to yall later.

A quick check in before bed time.  Been a tough time as my Dad seems to have had a M.I. over the last few days.  Stubborn as a mule, wouldn't listen to Mom to go get checked out.  Finally, I hear about things and tell him what I know he didn't want to hear.  He went to the E.R. and a friend of mine is going to check him out.  His enzymes are up, so some damage has occurred, but not sure how much.  Right now, it is just a question of letting the process complete itself and then opening up the artery.  Won't get into the technical end of things, but you don't want to open a vessel to an area that is "completing an infarct", until it is done.  I will check with him tomorrow afternoon.

Speaking of tomorrow afternoon, we are heading to Atlanta for the train show.  Hope to find a few bargains and see some cool trains, but I fear it will be mostly HO.  If time allows, will have to go to Memory Station and visit with Roger.

Laz, so sorry for Lucky's passing.  Our Lucky was so special as I know yours was.  Not easy.  Dogs are amazing, no matter what, they think you are the best thing and always happy to see you.  Will pray for peace and comfort for you.

God Bless,

Dennis

Prayers for Renovo and family, Dennis' father, Laz and Lucky's family, Grayson's brother, RT for a good job soon, Rain for All (except ROY ;)) and all others I've forgotten or missed.

Cool day today, only 97!  Supposed to be 98 tomorrow and then 101 Sunday and 100 through next week.  Maybe a chance of a storm next Wednesday!  Brown-outs up North of us, mostly in St. Louis.  They got hit hard in the Winter storms too.  Ameren guaranteed this wouldn't happen, but I guess we see what that's worth.

John (jefelectric) - nice pics and sounds like a great time.  Hope you get your locomotive going.  Laz, hope you're back in CAMP mode soon.

Where is John Baker?  Kevin?  Dr. John?  Jim Haleyscomet?  Etc?

Got the BFoC going again and also some history on it - check out that thread for more.  BONE tired, stuffed from Culvers and have company for the weekend, so just stopped by to check up on the pot and say hi guys.

John S - Charlene did some BIG shopping and we have tons of great treats in the house, so help yourself to anything you want.  Did you leave out a bag of cheezits?  Charlene swears she didn't do it, but Chewy really got into a fix!  I think she ate the whole bag?!

Past bedtime.  Talked to Jim A too long.  Soundboard [Soundstop] is officially down on the right side.  Painted the edges to seal them.  Went back over the top with brush and covered thin areas.  Looks good but is brown.  Painted brown as that is more of a soil color.  Then any grass and etc. has bare spots, you see soil.  Will put track down Sunday as got to go to Wilmington tomorrow for Youngest's B'day party and see Grandson.  Had the best pizza I have ever had at new place.  So much topping it would not stay on top unless you cupped the slices.  GOOOOOOD NIGHT.

Sitting in the hotel room in Minneapolis getting the most for my $13.95 per day wireless internet!  What a rip off!  Staying in a Hilton should NOT cost $13.95 for internet access... heck stay in a Fairfield Inn and it's free!  Guess Daddy has to support Paris' habits!  Scrawny little wench... oh nevermind.

So I haven't had a chance to get to my Train Store to get the catalogs.  Get an email today that they only have 30 remaining!  Ho Hum...
