Keith,
Fortunately where we are located is rather boring. We are about 12 miles from the ocean, 30 miles from the mountains. I have lived within a 8 mile radius for the past 40 yrs, and havn't had any natural disasters in close proximety. A Mexican Airliner did crash on approach to LAX and killed about 140 people 20 years ago. The earthquakes havn't been bad here either, a little unnerving but nothing broken, or damaged to date.
I sure am crazy making a post like this, sure seems like I'm tempting fate. But, we have been really blessed and fortunate.

Jim, while we could use some rain, I am not saying anything as in both 94 and 98, this area got hit by the 500year floods, did a lot of damage. Y'all may remember the stories about caskets floating around the city. Was a bad scene. Of course this occured before my arrival, I was up river about 90 miles and didn't have any problems.
Hope everyone is having a good day.

Brent, that is the size we have and the trash company delivered it for free! We are charged garbage fees in our water utility bill, comes to about $16/month.
Dennis
Don, I do remember the casket stories. Didn't a "Quncy" episode deal with a similar scenario? Must have been something to see! Best of luck with the fires. I hope they are extinguished soon.
Afternoon all,
Beautiful in Southern Ohio,
Planted more Zinneas and dahalias. A few more tomatoes and peppers then water and weed
Brent - a couple of years ago our city passed an ordance that required the use of that type of trash can. At first I was not too crazy about them, but now I really like them. They easily hold over 300 pounds of garbage, yet are easy to move.
Going outside and study under a tree and enjoy the weather!

Brent the trash company down here supplies cans like that for its customers you should have told me I would have got you one slightly use for say $25.00

On sale at your local, friendly Hardware store.

Dennis,We have well and septic, so no water/sewer bill and thus we don't have garbage collection (we have to pay that seperate). Wife is calling them today to see if they will accept the large trash can... guess I should have checked that first! LOL!
Jim,This is what they used back in Pittsburgh with a lot of the newer communities, I always liked them because of the large wheels and 1/2 inch stainless steel axle, which makes it VERY sturdy, and steady. Those cheaper rolling cans with small wheels tip way too easy! I've found myself picking up trash on a number of occasions!
Bill,WELL NOW YOU TELL ME! Seriously, this was an impulse buy. I was looking at the different trash cans and the more I inspected them the more I realized how much nicer this one was to all the others!
Chuck,LOL! Goin' further down the redneck line here... if I have trouble moving this thing fully loaded, then I'll rig something up to tow it behind the tractor! YEEEEE HAWWWWWWWWWWW!
WOW, we really do talk about a WIDE variety of subjects on here! LOL!

Neighbor has new garden!!!!!!! Yes, disked, bottomplowed and redisked. 2 1/2 hours of my time [hooking up, unhooking, rehooking, cleaning and hooking up again]. Was hard as a rock as lots of clay from old septic drainfield [abandoned] and limited tilled soybeans for 10 years. It came up in big chunks. Final disking resulted in some brickbats [Yanks will not know that word].
Atlas is the best. Shipped engine off last Wednesday [older one], received Friday and it came UPS today fixed free. Never had a company treat me that well [including Williams]. Already tested and works great. Hats off to Atlas [worth the extra $$$$].
Brent, our contractor for Town garbage furnishes. Those out of town that contract receive theirs' with contract. They all have trucks that lift them and dump them so round ones without the metal bar or not solid enough to be grabbed by forks can not be used.
Now lunch [forgot to eat].
Later.

Good afternoon from a misty and humid Chicago where we continue to enjoy North Carolina's weather. I just came back from a day-long Microsoft seminar. One vendor demo after another... well, there was a nice lunch - and they're going to the Cubs game tonight which I simply couldn't abide even if it was free. Jim F, it's pretty dry in Chicago - just a sprinkle or two. That smoking ban (in public places) kind of supercedes all sorts of municipal bans - there's all sorts of caveats though to keep various people happy. Anybody coming to town this summer?Brent, that's a heckuva garbage can. And $70 too - wow! We can't have 'em that big, and pay about $25 / month - though every week, we can throw out one 'big thing' for free ---
Chuck, I love that reference to a 'self-propelled' garbage can - immediately, I thought that sounds like my 1996 Hyundai Accent!
Don, I was thinking of Train Town in the Griffth Park fires. Glad its OK. A great memory of a trip to LA years ago was going up to the observatory.

Brent, we have the best of both worlds with regard to water, we have a well that can supply the house and the irrigation systems. Then we have county water that also feeds the house. As for the other, we have septic. The septic system really came in handy as those on county sewers were just assessed $70/month extra for sewer upgrades. And you know how those taxes are, once you get 'em, hard to get rid of 'em.
For those on the left coast, I have been trying to get a reason to get out there, besides meeting y'all and seeing the layouts out that way.....now we have one. Some friends of ours are moving to a town a little south of San Fran. Perhaps over the next year we can make it out there.
Pennvalley wrote:WM supplies trash containers like that, they hook it on a lift on the back of the truck, then lift & dump it. If just bags, the guys reach in & grab the bags.
Our trash trucks have an arm/claw on the side and grips trashcan and dumps into truck, works 99.9% of time but sometimes crushes can or damages parked cars
Chief your neighbor needs to make a trip to northern OHIO to pick up some muck(realy dark fertile soil) in celareyville/willard Ohio home to Berhmas farms andsome company that grows sod.
If you ever go hunting in the willard marshes do not step in any puddels as you will sink in the muck.

Do you think we should "can" it?
He guys...long time no post. I guess I'm in the other end of the posting pendulem. Anyways went into ou shop today to look at the new truck I'll be running. I gues I should say trucks. These are huge and lots of new toys. Looks like I'll be more of an IT guy by the end of this year than I want to be. Lots of gear all on a network. The rooms are big with lots of room to bring you the best of HD television.
Got a MTH yellow belly. Thing runs great. Sounds are just OK though. Hope everyone is fine.
Jim I am really sorry about your pup. They are your best friend through thick and thin.
Take care all.

Don : I finished that camera course the other day & am trying to get the advanced course !!
Well, hope everyone has a nice evening !!

Marty, just booked flight to Phoenix for June 7 and return early June 10. Unless you are flying to Phoenix through RDU, will not see you. US Airways [AW] flies non-stop RDU to Phoenix and back twice a day.
Got more sprinkles but big rain went west of Wake Forest.
Got brackets ready [had to drill more holes] to mount to smoke unit and then get set in frame. Once I get it adjusted right, wiring is simple [already have bridge rectifier ready to reduce voltage]. Shell back on and away we go.
Don't know if I can eat popcorn tonight. Ate two bowls fo chicken pastery [chicken slick] wife fixed. Love that stuff. OH, that is SOUTHERN food.

I'll be actually home that week for the US Open here in Pittsburgh on the new "Super Duper Truck" No travel that week.
Warm today and no rain - at least no rain since really early this morning. St. Charles is now under a flood watch. Parts of St. Charles went under in the 93 flood (500 year flood) and guess what, they rebuilt in the same place. Of course, one of the levees broke when a guy intentionally broke one in order to have an excuse for coming home really late after being out drinking Stores in the flood plane are having 50 percent off sales. Crest now expected to be 31.5 feet since some levees broke farther upstream relieving some of the pressure. Platte city is aleady flooding. Big Lake is under water with only rooftops visible. Arnold is higher in elevation than the Arch is tall, so no worries here.
Ran my new train some.
My wife is having quite a time right now. Her feet kept swelling, but then going down when she would get to the doctor. This time she had about 2+ edema and her feet were a bronze color (rubor?) when she finally got to the doctor so he ordered tests including complete blood work and a doppler study today as well as an echocardiogram. I thought maybe she had a blood clot last time this happened, but they did a doppler and no DVT or peripheral vascular disease showed up. Doc is thinking maybe kidneys or heart. Then, she decided to get a "free" treatment from a chiropractor her friend keeps recommending. He royally wrecked her back and she was laid out with spasms for about 2 hours! When it rains, it pours.
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Jim : certainly be praying for your wife's quick recovery. You have a lot going on in your area, I see .

Chief - "Chicken Slick" - is that like chicken potpie with slippery dumplings....Yum
Work has been busy. Always is this time of year. Teachers get in a tizzy, because there's so much to do. Parents who can't be bothered all year are having fits because their baby is reading below grade level and will have to attend summer school. Kids are restless and tired with all of the spring sports and late nights with the change to daylight savings time. Makes for a lethal mix. About four more weeks, then it calms down some, then we get ready to start all over again.
Returning son from college has invaded the house and garage and we've got his JUNK everywhere. Soon the great housing search at American U starts. A college owned studio apartment rents for $1600 a month. Don't think that is in his budget. The Mrs and I covered undergrad, he's on his own for grad school. Any forum members in Northwest DC want to "adopt" a 22 year old, not too sloppy, grad student for a year?. He fairly quiet and sleeps a lot.

Trash is becoming a hot topic this side of the pond too. We pay for collection/disposal through our Council Tax which is done either in-house or by contractors. The system varies from district to district, ours supply a single dust bin/trash can in which we place a bin liner/plastic bag the bag has to be left on the property boundary before 0700 on the weekly collection day. they also provide a green wheely bin for garden waste collected bi-weekly and a suitcase sized plastic box for cans and bottles collected bi-weekly. The powers that be have started a movement to make trash collection bi-weekly too, this will mean rotting matter having to be kept for up to 13 days and no matter how well wrapped this is it will present a health hazzard and a temptation to vermin.
