Evenin' boys.  Will someone make this gorgeous weather go away and give us some rain...?

ZEKE - I know it's probably frowned upon by Mister Ranger, but that looks like an A+ spot for a skinny-dip!

Mitchelr - are you gonna do any railfanning on the way out to Morgantown?

CHIEF - I have it on good authority that you are ineligible to run for Mayor of Muchkinland...

Good evening from my class - as my students work independently on a project - this is one time I can drop in for a quick cup. Beautiful day here today in Chicago - dry though - I'm going to an all-day Microsoft sponsored seminar tomorrow so I am essentially trading a free lunch for a day of catching up with work. Hope you are all well this evening!

Got my 4-4-2 today from Charles RO - runs great!  Took a minute to figure out which switch was the smoke unit and which was the reverser, since it's printed backwards in the manual?  I had it pulling 2 coal cars, 3 PW log dump cars, a flat car and a caboose without any problems except once, when it shorted in a O27 turnout.  Having read Thor's thread today, I think I'm gonna get a gauge and see if the front wheels are falling down in the front?  That switch always sparks pretty good when cars go through it anyway, so I suspect that it's the switch.  Ran for about 1/2 hour before helping my son make dinner.  No rain in STL today and high about 82 I think.  At least they go the AC working at the office.  Anyway, TTFN!

Evening all.  Watched K. Hepburn on TMC with wife until she went to sleep.  Got to book flight to Phoenix for June.  Got new Atlas catalog today [Golden Spike Club].  Watered all the plants and then we got a misty rain.  Every bit helps but need an inch or more.  Goood night all.  Microwave popcorn time. Big Smile [:D]

Good evening all,

It was a beautiful, sunny day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today with temps in the 80s.  The cars were running fast and the crowd was fairly large for a practice session.  We watched "Veronica Mars" and it was good as well.  I got my wife tickets to "Spamalot" for her birthday/ Mother's Day present and she liked that as well.  I voted in the primary and it was a good day all the way around.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Nope, this is a Lionel O27 4-4-2 with horn and smoke.  After further running, I'll say it runs great and will pull every car I've got at the same time!  Unfortunately, my layout isn't big enough to test that theory, but I think I'm right!  Good value for a $90 locomotive.  I need to heed the advice I was given, though, and put some tape underneath to block the light from shining down on the track in front.

Mike C - I saw Spamalot and it was great!  BTW, the Mississippi is expected to hit about 32 to 37 feet which will flood some parking garages downtown by Sunday - they are closing flood gates just in case.  Spot storms expected all week.  Nowhere near the flood in 93, which almost reached 50 feet though Shock [:O]  Wish I could send this rain to a certain 'ville in NC or down to you guys in GA.

Doug M, how is it in Chicago?  You guys having flooding or anything?  Sounds like you will soon have a statewide smoking ban - I won't complain.  Arnold passed a smoking ban (separate room with separate HVAC is still okay) and it's great to be able to eat wherever you want and not have to worry about taking the kids.

I have two of those that came in starter sets. One is NYC w/whistle from a Jcpennys set and the other is an older C&O set with out sound of any kind. I have a soft spot for these locos in starter sets. Will be looking into the Steamer by atlas as well. Actually ther are two steamers in O by atlas the other is a highly detailed 0-6-0.

Jim, Good for you, at last (come July1) we get a complete ban in all enclosed public spaces and work places. I have to keep a separate change of clothes for going to the pub, they still stinck the following day. You should hear the whinging and complaining of them (smokers), loss of liberty etc. We NS have suffered their stench and filth for far too long, at long last we have clean air to breathe.

Rant over.

We've had three weeks without rain and the rservoirs are well down, as I predicted the water co's are asking us to cut down consumption, no mention of a rebate on their exhorbitant charges. Am contesting an overcharge going back 3+ years.                                                It's now bucketting it down.

Good morning from sunny and warm New England!

I filled up the kiddie pool for the rug rats yesterday and they had a heck of a time. Felt just like summah heeah!

I'm working on repairing a post war tender shell. Dep was kind enough to send me a pair of originals. One was missing a step in the rear. Fortunately it has the one I need to repair my tender. So surgery is ongoing as I try to make one good tender from 2 broken ones.

How about them Brewers? Best record in baseball!

More 'new house that we aren't in yet' shopping last night...

The contractor met the 'renters' at the house to measure the front door - so wife and I got to Lowes to order new doors, the contractor hadn't faxed the measurements (it had only been 6 hours since the measuring took place).  So she asks the guy about her 10% off coupon that expires 'today' (now yesterday).  He says that he will honor it because she has been so patient!  I nearly laughed my behind off!  Anyway, I was sent on a mission to pick up the new foyer light, double bin trashcan insert for the island, and to pick out a new garbage can... they had the standard round ones, and a couple retangular ones with wheels, but I liked the the 'ultimate garbage can', these are the ones that many garbage collectors are using because they can use the truck lift to empty them... so I get the $69.00 62 Gallon one... take everything out to the car, get the light in and the insert, no room for the 'ultimate garbage can'! Disapprove [V]Shock [:O]

Mischief [:-,]Mischief [:-,]Mischief [:-,]Mischief [:-,]Mischief [:-,]

So I tell the wife, meet me down at the lumber pickup area (wife drives a 1999 Toyota Solara)... I cut-off about 20 feet to nylon twine, put some broken down boxes she had in the trunk on the roof, and then strapped the 'ultimate garbage can' to the roof! Big Smile [:D]Approve [^]Shock [:O]

You should have seen some of the looks we got!  HA!  We laughed about it the whole way home... should have taken a picture...

Good morning all,

It is another beautiful, sunny and warm day in SE Indiana with temps in the 80s again and a chance for some rain as well.  Two catalogs came in the mail this week.  I got the Lionel Christmas catalog, which did not have too much of interest and Lucas got a Lego catalog, which had a couple of interesting kits.  One was a locomotive set, which you can download plans for 30 different engines and cars.  Some of the models shown are surprisingly detailed.  What was even more interesting was a building kit that practically does away with all the visible Lego pegs that you see on their sets.  It is fairly expensive, but there are a lot of pieces and a lot of "kitbashing" possibilities.  I am not sure what scale would be appropriate, but it does look nice.  I better send the dining car to "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 46 degrees. Going up to 85 today with plenty of sunshine. This will be a hot day.

Today, I am working outside again. Last night, I mowed the side yard, so I will do the front and hill today. It's better if I break it up to several days. Should take about 2 hours or so. Didn't get down to the train room, yesterday. Weather was too nice. I have to pull up the track and remove the steel bridge for painting. That will take a couple days to primer and paint. I will not rush that job. I want to take my time.

Well, Dining Car has rolled in. Time for breakfast. Don't know if " points west " has boarded yet.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Chuck

Hi GIZ,

Double nickles here today to get to 80.  Got to cut grass and plant string beans.

BRENT sounds like a 'redneck' solution to get the can home?  I do that stuff all the time, love to see the people stare.  Makes them think about it?

Rock on,

Brent,

That is one nice looking bin.  I would think security would be a concern, does  it come with an optional Lojack system?  Or are you going to paint an address on it?  My concern would be lifting it after it is full. I don't think they offer them here, it would be confused as a parked car and probably get a ticket.

Worked on lighting cars last night, had mild sucess.  Rerouting the wires so they are less visible, one car has intermittent lighting, and turns out it is actually due to the socket NOT the pickup.  Unusual.

I'm sure our local fires are hitting the news, seems a bit unusual, they are hitting the parks.  Monday was Featherly Park, which we have done a lot of camping at. Then yesterday and this morning Griffith Park, right in the heart of LA.  So far the observatory, Train Town (live steamers) have been spared.  Concern is regarding the Zoo and some homes.  The weather isn't helping been over 90 the past 3 days, and with our total rainfall of 3.2 inches this year has left everything as dry as a matchbox.

Hope everyone has a great day!  Keep up the good study habits John (cxt30)

Morning.  Slept till 9 AM.  Big Smile [:D]  Rain but only very light and then sun and wind, repeats itself.  Need some of the rain Jim F is getting.

Now for our Yankee "wet back" hauling his "can" on top of his car. Laugh [(-D]  Just like the illegals we see around here.  [notice, I said illegals, have no problem with legals].

Need to get my work done on "smoking" the MTH dummy.

Neighbor wants me to take tractor and break up some garden.  He does not realize I have to wike down bottom plow with gas to get grease off, then plow, wash it down, re-grease it for next year [to prevent rusting].  Not an easy quick thing.

Got to go for now.  Have a great day.

Hello All!    Don B-  Sounds like you need to install Fire Sprinklers on the outside of your House & on any Trees or Bushes to repel the Fire away. Brent,

I have never seen a garbage can as big as that.  Hope you don't have a steep driveway.  If you fill the can full, whatever is at the bottom of the driveway, or across the street could possibly be destroyed if the can gets away from you.
