Sorry about your dog Dennis! My advice for what it's worth is get a new puppy ASAP. This will divert the childrens attention, it did with mine.

The lock gates are leaking on the inland end of the Manchester Ship Canal, I hear they are going to experiment with grits(oatcake) mixture, it sets harder than 7,000lb concrete.

Is this Laz's Bear?

Dennis, I had to put my dog down after 13 years of absolute joy with her. I'd recommend not taking the kids. Not only is it traumatic to watch their loved one pass away, but it's also traumatic for them to see you and your wife lose composure. I stayed with my dog, Hobbes, and held her head in my arms as the lethal dose was administered. She passed away so peacefully. That made me feel better. I remember thinking I wish I could someday pass on as peacefully as she did. I stayed with her for a while after, kissing her and stroking her fur. Me and the doctor were in tears. One of the very few times I've cried as an adult.

Each day got a little easier, and it will for you too. I still miss her dearly some 4 years later, but I also know that we will once again be together, walking in God's woods and swimming in his lakes, just like we used to here on Earth.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and a little cooler in SE Indiana with temps in the 70s today.  Dennis, sorry to hear about your pet, and I agree with those who say leave the kids at home.  They are much too young for that kind of experience.  All this talk of loss makes me sad, and I know that is one of the functions of this group is to be able to share our experiences.  I will try to make everybody's day a little brighter by reporting that Lucas had a good checkup yesterday.  For those new to the pot, Lucas is my now 17 year old son (his birthday is today) who battled successfully testicular cancer last year.  A lot of prayers from the pot went into his recovery.  Reggie, you made everybody's day brighter by reporting in as well.  Good to hear from you again.

I went to the YMCA for treadmill last night and watched "Veronica Mars".  There are only three more episodes before the season and possibly the show ends.  Just the regular fare on the dining car this morning and it is way behind schedule.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 60 degrees. Going up to 72 today. We had a few loud, thunderstorms last night. Ground is wet, this morning. Grass will grow faster. I will be mowing in a few days.

Today, is the ever popular, grocery shopping day. I get to look at higher prices and gas up the car for 3 bucks a gallon. I wonder when, someone will take charge of this inflated economy.  Besides the gas companies.

No time for trains, the last few days. Spent a lot of time outside, yesterday, doing some yard work. It felt good. Last year, I just sat in the shade, recovering from my surgery. That took a long time.

Dennis....You and your family are in my prayers.

Well, Dining Car has arrived from " points west ". Time for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Chuck

Morning all.  Oldest dog [almost 17] woke me up at 8 AM.  I think the Lab put him up to it [he was dancing around just outside the bedroom door when the other one was at the bed whinning].  AH, to be able to sleep until 9AM again. Wink [;)]

This gang on the "Pot" has been through all of life's hills and valleys.  As far as I know, we have not had anyone pass away.  The Lord has really blessed this group.

Beautiful day.  Things to do.  Later.

OH Don!!  I forgot.  You could have used GRITS to smooth out the stuco wall. Laugh [(-D]

Good morning, everyone! Warm and sunny again today. Wish I could be outdoors to enjoy it.

Reggie - good to hear from you. Hope you and the family are well and you get to enjoy some time running trains.

Chuck - Glad you are so much better than last year and able to enjoy yard work again.

Dennis - you and your family are in my prayers today.

Chief - sounds like you may have some "gremlins" acting up in your attic. Wierd stuff with your loco and ZW!

Whatever happended to our young Methodist seminarian, ATS. . . ? Haven't heard from him in a while. Probably busy with papers and exams.

A little joke I remembered this am: A Baptist preacher was sitting in his den when his young son came in. The little boy was soaking wet and his arms and face were covered with scratches. The preacher said, "Son, what happened to you?"

The little boy replied in a disgusted tone, "Dad, no matter how hard you try, you just can't baptize a cat!"

Looks like another hot day here, hi in the upper 80'2 again.  Starting to look smoky again.

I should be able to get out today. I'm supposed to be walking around, but just too tired to do it. I keep getting up in the middle of the night.  Them nurses really had me trained.

I had my first experience with grits on Saturday.  Bland diet and all.  YUK!!!!  There was no fixing it to suit my tastes!!  I stuck with the puddingDinner [dinner]!  I can really see the concrete like consistancy.  I try it next time I have to spackle the dry wall.

Dennis: Thoughts and prayers to you and the family, it'll get better.

Good morning from a grey and cool Chicago where I am having a hard time waking up this morning. Anyone need more joe? I'm going to make a new pot. I think it is just a combination of a couple of long nights and not enough sleep. ... OK, I'm back - the pot'll be ready in a minute.

I think Mike C and I watch all the same TV shows.  I too appreciate the 'therapeutic' nature of this thread.  I hope to play with the trolleys later tonight if I last.

What should I get myself for my birthday (coming up in a few weeks): a San Franciso or Los Angeles Western Hobbycraft trolley?

Another buddy got laid off yesterday - that makes three of my neighbors in just a few weeks.

Buy them both! One from you to you, the other from your wife to you. That also lessens the chance of her overspending on something train related like she did last year!  Smile [:)]

My boys have a birthday coming up on Sunday. A little birdie tells me they could possibly be getting some Amtrak cars...

Chief - Don't have grits in So. Cal, would have to go to Bakersfield, the only thing here is that sissy stuff Tofu.

Doug - I vote for the LA street car.  SF only has the cable cars.  That layoff stuff is tough! I started a interium business 10 yrs ago until I could find another job.  Now no risk of layoff, just work for nothing.

Reggie - Glad to see you back, you might need a laptop I'm sure it could be considered a job expense.

Going to go to train club this evening, Chris wants to do a photo shoot with our livery of steam.  Kids are getting out of school early this week, only 3 hrs per day!  He and Mom went shopping for  suit last night, Prom and a young lady's Escort at her Debutante Party.  The fun begins!

My first chance to get on the board all morning!  Disapprove [V]

Busy here at work...

Dennis, sorry to hear about Lucky.  I had to give up my dogs when I moved to Bal'more due to wife's allergies and work schedule.  She and I hated putting them in their cage (ex-wife's idea) for long periods of time and they didn't get along with the cats (some major fights broke out and cats won everytime), after 4 trips to the vet for cut noses and deep lacerations, we felt it best.  Hated giving them up, but it was for the best, would hate to have had to put them down, they both ended up at local farms with other dogs and lots of room to run... they seemed happy last time I saw them. Smile [:)]

Fife - had a blast last night!  Now I can't wait to get the layout built!  I need a few more diesels and then I can switch out diesels and steamers... The new switcher has a very impressive horn!  It sounds like a rottweiler in a yorkie body!  LOL!

Good morning from beautiful Ohio!!! It is perfect outside today.

Chuck, I thought you had electricity out there in Eastern Ohio.   Every time I read your post you are heading to the big city of Cambridge to go grocery shopping.  If you could get electricity you could buy a refrigerator and not need to go to the store so often.  BTW, is that great HO train layout in Cambridge real close to your grocery store?Laugh [(-D]

Reggie, glad to see your posting.  You need a laptop with a cell phone card such that you have access almost everywhere.

Mike, I sure am glad to keep hearing that Lucas is doing great.  Active, too!

I am thinking of writing a book.  The title would be 1,000 Uses For Grits without Putting It In Your Mouth.  Rat poison may be the top of the list.

Heading west tonight for fishing.  Rain suit is packed, so now it won't rain.

it's more like lay more track down so i can get to enjoy running more trains.

i have a laptop but it has a cold right now.  i will not use it because everytime i do it cuts off in the middle of any project. so my thinking is to take it to best buy and get all my pictures on it printed to a disc before i loose all of them. once i do that this weekend i will send it back to the factory to see if they will fix it or give me a new computer. this is the third time it has done this. oh and the family is doing great. they have actually been on a couple of trips with me, and mommy wanting to stop every 5 minutes. not realizing i have to be at my stop by a certian time. i'm trying to stay with buying all lionel engines but lionel does not come out with many engines in the modern body style. ? have any of you guys got much experience with the atlas engines with tmcc, are they smooth runners, also have any/many problems with these engines. they look nice and they come with plenty detail on them for the price. lionel i dont want to lstop buying their engines but they have to come out with more modern engines then they come out with. my list of engines that i want from the new atlas book are as follows:

sd35 - family lines # 6826-1, 6826-2, 6193-1

       - pennsylvania # 6806-3, 6806-4, 6190-1

mth i'm really venturing out but i say they are producing the body stlyes engines i like and want. so why be bias. so here goes:

gp38-2 - cn # 20-2806-1 x's 2, 20-2806-3

es44ac - cp # 20-2823-3

so what do you guys think ?

Reggie,

I've always liked the old Family Lines scheme. The SD-35 sounds like a good choice. I think you'll like the MTH GP-38-2 also.

BTW, Best Buy has fixed two of our computers and did a good job!

Good evening everyone.  Thanks to y'all with kind thoughts.  It is a tough time.  Lucky had a temporary reprieve, I had to do a case this afternoon and by the time I was done, the vet was closed.  I went to Lowe's and picked up some Lime.  I figure I will try to dig the hole tonight and then when I am done with an early case tomorrow, I will head over for the euthanizing.  Any suggestions on burying a dog?  I figured a few feet deep and perhaps Lime spread over her.  Anything I am leaving out?

As for Grits, one thing they really are useful for is spread them around the garden, kills slugs and other pests.  But we really do like them here.Dinner [dinner]

I will try to get some things done on the layout tonight.  Need the therapy.

God Bless,

Dennis
