Surrvived the night with no problem, all will return to normal. We do have a strong resolve out here. Doug (notagrump), I think we can stand down. Anyway as typical of our Southern friends, they have very short term memories.
HOPEFULLY, today will get a call that my switches have come in. I'm ready and waiting to get back to work on the layout. This next week could really show a lot of progress. While I'm waiting going to do detail planning for the wiring. With the help of Roys comments on the thread I put up. It should go rather easy.
Interesting situation developed here, as wifes family is from Northern Wisc., and she has 6 or 7 Aunts and Uncles living there. Her parents who live here, have decided to drive back for a visit. (There are some health concerns of a couple of the relatives). Given that her parents are now in their 80's and do NOT fly, train travel too expensive on a short notice going to drive.
So, since they relations are gettin "on" suggested that Kay, could go with them and help with the driving (80%), and have a chance to see her family. Who know's if another chance will happen or how long they will be there. So they are leaving around Sept 20, and will be gone for probably 4 or 5 weeks. Hmmmmm ...
So off to work, hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning from a sunny and cool Chicago where we have warehouses exploding all the time, so what's the big deal? Batman shooting is supposed to be just about over - last Friday, they were all over LaSalle St by the Board of Trade making it look like winter. I hung with the extras for a while who were dressed in their winter coats and hats - mind you, it was about 85. The things they do to get in film! That NH car looks nifty, Jim A. You sure have a way with restorations. I sure was tired yesterday - I'm the only one in the family allegeric to something in the air since the big storms of last week. Every mosquito in northeastern Illinois is apparently in our house too - and divebombing on me - it's like camping. I did watch that Saving Grace show on TNT with Holly Hunter as a complete basketcase cop. It's kind of entertaining.Much trauma at home yesterday though - the dog apparently killed our youngest's brand-new hamster. A boyfriend was conveniently over to clean up things before the 5 yr. old realized what had happened and the bride raced out to find another one with him. The things I miss while I'm at work Jim F, sorry to hear about your SiL.Mitch, messing with school buses is a felony in Illinois. A few years back, we had a lot full of slashed tires on the first day of high school. The pair who did it went to jail. Hope your car trouble is inexpensive. I never did take my 11 year old Hyundai in to the shop last week with the squeaking wheel. I just took it out on a straight road - ran it (legally) up to 55 and jammed on the brakes. Problem solved (for the moment).

Wait a minute, there is something new. I bought a beat up old 6464-475 B&M boxcar at the LHS yesterday (before the Walmart incident). It was $10, but I got it for $7. Anyway, it's all scratched, so out of boredom, I started sanding it with fine sandpaper and nail polishing sticks. The scratches I've worked on are gone and the car now shows big promise. I only did one side of the roof, but it looks great!
And Jim, F, sorry to hear about your family troubles. Hang in there!
P.S. Doug Murphy, the Batman film crew is going to be imploding a (Brachs?) warehouse or factory building in Chicago this week to be used as an explosion in the movie. The difference with this implosion is that gasoline cans will be ignited when the demo occurs, making the building look like it exploded.

Brent-I've not bought tires from Tirerack, because a local shop will match the final price, but I have used the tire rating guide. It is a great resource for tire shopping and I have been pleased with the tires I've bought using the guide.
Removed the Franklin and the 24720, 30, and 40 coaches off the layout and put the 650's 651 & 718 on after a quick clean and lube. Pulling them with the 290 recently refurbed. Playing with the link couplers as a couple are being finicky. I've noticed the different year versions don't like each other as much as I would like. Particularly the early '46 thin shank unweighted links. I guess that is why they became thick and then weighted.

So tired,finally slept good last nite. Daughter said "R" us got a/c back on about 8PM yesterday. out since storm on fri eve. Door opener repairman expected today about 10. one step at a time. I will relax after house wiring is repaired,thats the big step (wed.). that done,(hopefully) I can return my train room back to normal.Thats where the fuse box is.
Jim F. I hope your sil can be kept comfortable as possible ,so much of that in my family I figure that will be my destiny. I had prostate cancer but found early and removed.

And it is a good morning. I showed my wife and son all the comments you made yesterday and they were very greatly comforted by your thoughts and prayers. This is truly a great group of people, and you brought a smile to their faces with the conversations about the "terrorist attack on the Piggly Wiggly" :-). I know they sometimes wonder why I spend time here, but days like yesterday show them why I do. Thanks to all of you for your help in these times, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you who are experiencing troubles as well.
IIABSDISEI with highs in the low 90s. The humidity will be back later today, but it is supposed to cool off for the weekend. I did go to the YMCA for weights last night and I got to bed a little earlier as well. Just the usual fare on the dining car this morning. I get to see a rare road soccer game tonight as the girls have a bye night and the boys road game is on my way home. I hope everyone has a good day.

Today, I am doing a few thngs around the yard. Need to touch up some trimming and work on garden. Later, this afternoon, I will take a trip to the train room and do some dusting and train running. Hopefully, it will be a nice quiet day.

Not much new to discuss. Didn't sleep well last night. Still up as yesterday turned into today. But here I am, bright and early.

A fresh pot is on the burner. Yesterday was an interesting day. So glad I did not have kids r a school to deal with. It seems taht some pranksters hit three bus lots in our area of the school district and deflated the tires on almost all of the buses. Buses were running up to two hours late. Made for a very interesting first day of school. Another Maryland school system had a similar thing in the spring, but they slashed tires and smashed windows. Our vandals just let the air out.
Car troubles seem to be the norm around here. A few weeks back I had to replace an axle/CV joint ($300+), then two weeks ago we had to replace the hoses on my son's truck along with some other work ($200+). Friday an idiot light came on in my vehicle. Turns out it was a ping sensor that advances the timing and keeps the engine from detonating ($350+). There goes that Flying Yankee I was thinking of ordering out of the new Lionel catalog. Seems like things always come in threes. At least that's the third repair so there probably won't be another repair soon.
LAZ - hope you have a good bunch of kids this year. Countin' the days already...shame on you....
jaabat - Love the NH boxcar. I may have to try to get some of the decal paper to decorate an old tinplate car I reprinted. I bet I can pick up some up at York or the LHS.
Roy - after you buy that lot of trains, I'm sure you'll offer some special deals to your friends in the Coffee Pot.

Cooler today and my buddy is back from TDY to Virginia. Apparenlty he flew down, got a sinus infection, so drove back. Went through Ohio on the way back. Tonight my wife and kids and I all went to Outback for a nice steak dinner. My son told the waitress that it was our anniversary and she brought us a big Sundae with 4 spoons -

I sent an email to Dennis and John last Friday, but things have turned worse for my SiL. Her MiL was diagnosed with throat cancer. After the biopsy, she was out of it and somehow they ran a CT scan and found she also had a brain tumor. They removed it - about the size of a pea. After she is stabilized, they will start treatment on the throat. They scanned liver and some other organs, but they are clean. Apparently she is very depressed and has just quit. She's just waiting to die, even though they think they might be able to help. Please keep her and my SiL's family in your thoughts and prayers.
