Thanks everyone. It took four months to find something, but I think it is worth it. Do not need to move or be away for long periods of time. (In our business, long periods of time = defense department deployment time.) I was offered a job in Nashville, TN, but that was a no-go. I would have been too close to you know who! And it wasn't Reggie, who by the way has done one great job documenting his layout construction.
Due to our economy, I realized that if I could somehow hook my wagon to our businesses that were committed to Central Ohio, I more than likely would be better off. Since OSU, The Limited, Nationwide, Chase, and state government are our largest employers, it seemed prudent to connect somehow with one of those entities. The company I will be employed by is tied to Nationwide and I can't wait to be sent to Roseyville to deny claims.
I want to publicly thank, Chuck, who back in early May during lunch in Cambridge, OH, I told him of my pending unemployment. He really gave me some sound advice as we negotiated the final agreement.
Michigan and Ohio are economically in poor shape and all of us are moving to Roseyville. We are going to build two stadiums in Roseyville and continue THE GAME. Of course, we are going to apply for Roseyville welfare. Why else would we go there?
Dr. John, I fly into BAMA on the evening of the 13th, big wedding and leave the 16th. Just how hot does it get down there? BTW, do your research on the Internet and when you go into a dealer tell them you want Internet pricing.

Blueberry - How about your boy racing CAMRYs next year...?
It's a dan dan dandy of a day out there, girls. I might just go for a little walk in a few minutes.
Today I saw one poster on OGR that has been having trouble with his starter set's 4-4-2 pilot wheels jumping the tracks. That's any easy one. Stretch the spring some and put it back. Then there is a guy with scratched caboose windows. Sand them smooth with fine sandpaper, polish them with compound, finish with Future floor wax if needed.
Off for my walk. I hope to kill some of these fat cells! But like Dougie said, see what exercise does for ya! I hope I don't get creamed!!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
No time for trains, today. I need to spend some quality time in the train room. It's ready for a good cleaning.
Chuck
Chuck, Since when do you call cleaning, QUALITY TIME?
Good morning from a sunny Chicago where I just heard a colleague's husband died last night - got hit on his bike by a car on a busy road. How sad. I'm so bad though, the first thing I thought of upon hearing the news was 'see what exercise gets you...' That went unspoken though.Sir James, I'm glad everything is finally fixed up. I tried to interest State Farm last week in buying me a new roof but they didn't bite. Chuck, I think we have one or two of every toy that has been recalled so far - all the Thomas ones, the Geotrax loco set, etc. Even the Schylling tops. But my kids are far out of the stage of eating their toys - and you can imagine the absolute hassle of proving you purchased these toys... Marty, that's a heck of a long time on the road. May your wife's surgery go smoothly.Buckeye, congrats on the new job...
Marty, hang in there! I agree with Buckeye, you ought to have a sit-down with your supervisor. I'm praying for your wife and her upcoming surgery.
Buckeye, congrats on the new job! Hope you enjoy it.
Pleasant and warm in Prattville, today. We're into "Indian summer" now. Still plenty warm but not oppressive. Evenings and mornings are very nice. We're getting rain pretty regularly, so I guess the drought has abated some.
Had a frustrating experience with one Toyota dealer this week. Looking at '07 Tacomas (which they need to clear to make room for the '08 models). I've researched the vehicles and know dealer invoice etc. They would not budge off MSRP, even though I'm paying cash! I made a reasonable offer (still would have given them some profit) and they kept whining about having to make a living. So I left. Salesman followed me out to my truck, trying to get me to come back. Told him I was a serious buyer, I'd made my offer and they turned it down. There are five more Toyota dealers in less than an hour's drive, so off I went. I was polite but I told them I didn't want to waste time with their games (my Dad worked for GMAC for 42 years, so I know all the car sale routines). Anyway, I'll try another dealer on Friday. The quest continues . . .
End of rant.

Jim, About 25 years ago we experienced a lightning strike very similar to the one that hit you. Acted very strange. As I remember it took out the garage door opener, daughters stereo, one of our radio shack color computers, several light switches were blown out of the wall, blew out the telephone protection block and one of the TV's. After the deductable we recovered about half of the loss. After that I put in new service ground and a service lightning protector and didn't have any more problems until three years ago when it hit a big pin oak tree in our front yard, folllowed on of the roots to our landscape lighting wiring and followed that to the timer mounted on the front wall of the house, luckily that wall was stone. It blow the timer to pieces but did no damage inside that we could find. It did kill the tree and we had to have it removed. Again not enough damage to reach the newer, higher deductable. We still feel lucky that no major damage to our home was done.
Before I retired, I was an electrical contractor. Some years back we had a customer, a retiremnet community that had a strike on a pad mounted transformer that followed the wiring into one of their cottages. It melted the insulation off of all the wiring in the house. They had to strip the interior down to the studs. All that was left of the wiring was the bare copper wire and yet it did not ignite the house. We rewired the whole thing and they renovated the inside and it is still in use.
Lightning is never predictable.

Good morning from a wet and rainy Dallas. Rained all night and we got about an inch at our house. Temps in the high 70's.
Buckeye - congrats on the new job!... and thanks for the advice on my friend.
Have a great day all!
Regards, Roy
Congratulations on the new job, Buckeye!!! Best of luck!
And please keep my phone number on speed dial when you guys go touring all those train stores! I'd do the same for my fellow OTTS brothers.
Good Morning, Y'all!
Roy, sorry for your friend. I am getting ready to head to a funeral service for a friend from Sunday School....same deal, cancer. Too sad.
Marty, great to hear from you. Sorry you have such a crazy work schedule. Will keep you and your bride in my prayers. Any surgery causes us concern.
Tonight I have to get the den ready for the install tomorrow of the home theater system. Lots of stuff to move....OH MY BACK!
Anyway, hope everyone has a great day.

Another easy question. The Ohio Toy Train Society's Great Eastern Ohio Train Store Tour.
Good morning from the heart of Buckeyeland, where you great guys in California need to know that it is only 67 degrees. Great weather to sleep with all the windows open.
Thanks everyone, for the input about Justrains. Since Davies Trains has basically shut down or scaled down, our repairs and good prices are gone. I have made one purchase from Justrains and found them to be people of their word.
Marty, your situation is not good. I believe you should put in front of your supervisor a calendar of how much you have been gone the last six months. It sounds like they don't want to hire enough people and pay them benefits.
Roy, I had three great friends die in the span of 9 months back in 2000. Two of them were my Canada Fishing buddies. Your friend will need the support for years.
Jim S, I was in Pickaway County this last time. Not far enough south.
Don, yes the Garden Railroad looks great, but that one is not mine. Every year they have an open house of garden railroads and that was one of the ones on tour last year.

Living there with the rest of the unemployed. On May 18th, the company I was working for shut down their operation in Central Ohio and I had no job, no income, etc. After a very through search for work, and being jerked around by three companies that could not make up their mind, I'm back at work starting on Sept 18th. Needless to say Jim, you must be the only one that reads my posts , because I have been posting it all summer.
BTW, if anyone needs a job, I did find out something interesting about working for FEMA as a contract employee. They need all type of people with different skills. Send me an email.
Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s again. I went to the YMCA to do weights last night after watching "my" soccer girls lose a very winnable game, 3-1. At least I did get to ring the bell once when they scored. Hopefully the boys will do better tonight. There was one positive note from last night. I got the team shirt for the girls and it is some kind of awesome (I already had one for the boys' team). I would post a picture, but I do not think a picture would do it justice. I will have to post some of the observations that are on the back of it tonight. Some major chaos broke out at work just as I was getting ready to leave yesterday. I will have to clean it up today. Roy, sorry to hear about your friend's wife.
There was a little extra on the dining car this morning as it arrived from "Points East". I hope everyone has a good day.
It is a foggy 60 degrees. Sun is trying to break thru. Going up to 92 today, with lots of sunshine. Gonna be hot.
Today is the day, that I drive up to Cambridge for the groceries. The gas prices are staying high, here. Last one I saw in Caldwell was $2.85 a gallon. Looks like it's going to stay that high.
On a lighter note, the first annual TOTTSGEOTST is scheduled for next Tuesday, Sept. 11th. There will be a lot of touring.
That's a good question.....Jim.
All aboard for the Dining car. It's time for breakfast. Later.
Y'all have a great Wednesday.
Good morning from a chilly New England. The boys start their first day of school today. I hope the school is insured!
Looks like my turn in the barrel continues. Along with all the appliance headaches of late, one of my Lionel diesels started smoking the other day, so that went to be repaired. Now my car is acting up. "Insert telephone pole here"? "Death where is thy sting?"
Buckeye, I bought some Williams trains from Justrains, and let me tell you, they had the best price, free shipping, and I had the locos in less than 2 days. They were extremely helpful on the phone when I placed my order as well. I hold them in high regard.
My condolences, Roy.
Roy - Sorry to hear about your friend's loss, that's tough, but at least she isn't in pain anymore.
Marty - You're working too hard, as if you needed to hear that! Hope your wife's surgery goes well and a quick recovery.
Sir James - Glad your almost back to "normal" hope things go well for you, certainly been an ordeal!
Buckeye - That Garden RR looks great, need more pictures!
Jim - When you talk about the bridges, we have a section here, (91 Fwy through Corona & Riverside) which is one of the primary routes east. A private company was "awarded" the rights to a "Fasttrack Lane, they were given an exclusive for toll charges. And a contractual guarantee from the state that no additional public lanes would be built for 80 years. They then "adjust" the toll relative to traffic flow. If its heavy the toll is as much as $6.75 for 4 miles, when its light then its $1.60. If too many people use the Fasttrack, then they raise the price pushing everyone back to the public lanes. Then when the pain level gets high enough people go back to Fastrack. Then if too many do they raise the price again. To make matters really bad it is the only road through the area. Next closest one is 30 miles north and it is always blocked. Can't win.
Chief - How many sheets of soundboard you putting down? I used 4. I NOW HAVE TRACK LAID, CURRENTLY CHECKING FOR CLEARANCES, THEN WILL SECURE TRACK. Skirting around entire layout is up, layout is covered with a synthetic ground cover. Connected electric and TMCC up to check operation, and it all works!!! Perfectly !!!! What a surprise !!!
Doug (notagrump) - You probably don't recall, but a LOT (most) of this is a result of YOU! Remember when I was complaining about the 072 engine requirements, and was considering selling it off. You talked to me on a number of occasions NOT to do it and keep working it. Its been a long trail, but Im getting there. It was a significant achievement to see an engine run tonight. As soon as I check out a couple of other things, I will put the cab forward on, but didn't want to test with that engine. Again, Thanks for the encouragement. !!!!!
Hope everyone has a great day !!!!
Don

Blueberry,
I don't have any of those but this lead paint thing is effecting alot of toys. From what I read it looks mostly on toddler toys. First ones I heard of was the Thomas the Tank Engine Wooden Railway toys about 2 months ago. Now it seems any toy made in china is getting effected with this recall. I know I'm getting concerned with alot of my little one's stuff. Makes me leary about buying anything for him cause you don't know what else might be recalled.
Evening all from Southern Ohio,
It is really nice out tonight. Working night shift and lots of stars out.
Glad to hear from you again Buckeye. Next time you are a little further south let me know and I'll have you over for supper. Bride sets a great spread.
Roy-condolences and prayers for your friend

Sorry guys but as you could imagine my mood right now is about as fowl as it can get. Next week my wife has surgery so there will be little or no down time there as well.
Sorry to vent. I am out of patience with work.
