88 - hope you are feeling 100 percent soon.  I've had a cold for about a week, but seems to be turning the corner now.  Tons of stuff to do around the house before the weather turns, so no trains for a little while.

Dougsnotagrump, thanks for the Halloween headsup!  Very intersting.  Too bad he doesn't take Paypal though....  Some neat ideas, that's for sure.

(later)

Oh well, guess I'll kill this pot if nobody else wants a cup.  Gotta work tomorrow - 5 hours OT.  TTFN

No argument from me!  I spent a lot of time playing with these things years ago.  I tried D&D once, but didn't really like it.  When I was a kid, a friend and I used to make board games all the time, including one based on the Lord of the Rings, but we never really "finished" one.  The trick is to find a friend or friends who have the time and inclination to play them with you.

God bless, Marty - hope you guys are doing well and wife is home soon!

Sounds like everyone had a great day except Chief, who at least got some rain with the big wind!  We had a bunch of rain last week and cooler weather, but warming up next week and yet some more rain in there too.  Hope our drought has broken as well.

Roger - I'll bet you get a lot of offers on that preview edition!  BFOC is a nice little train.  Have you had any folks having problems with the decorative driver arms coming off?  I used some loctite to fix it.  I really like it.  Watch out on sellig the add on cars - the train will only really pull the tender and 2 cars.  3 cars is too much due to lack of weight in the locomotive.  I think my wife is still mad at me for buying this, but I think it's great.  Can't wait for my already preordered Hogwarts Express to show up too!  Does it run on O31?  They are listing as O36 min now, but I suspect that's a push for Fastrack?!

Calmer.  Do not know how much rain we had but will bet more than we have had accumulative for all summer.  Some got inches.  Some local flash flooding.  Nothing to cure the drought.  Now they say highs in the 70's like it is suppose to be this time of the year.  Might get more rain middle of the week.  Had 7 tornados.  All minor things [if you can call them minor].  One town [Fuquay-Varina] in the southern part of the county has 3,000 with out electricty.  Trees down.  Biggest thing is one fell on a nursing home.  Also the nursing home's backup generator did not work.  Think we will get more rain later tonight but not the bad stuff.  Some got over 500 strikes per minute.  We got only a few thunders.  Think the long dry spell has been broken.  Betting it will start to regularly raining now.  Turnips will be coming up now.  Good night all.

Evenin' All !

Boy was it ever a slow day at the museum, guess with school having started most family vacations are over for a little while. Unfortunately tomorrow's runners canceled late this afternoon so I'll be back again tomorrow. At least I'll only have to pack everthing up just once for a two day run.

Chief, Had a nice chat with a gentleman, oldtimers kickin' in I can't remember his name, from Raleigh area. They have a club there as well. If he stops in tomorrow mite put a cab-1 in his hand and put him to work if we are still shorthanded.

Buckeye, One thing good about the outdoor plumbing is if the toilet stops up you just dig a new hole and put the building over it. No big plumber's bills, especially for weekend/holiday rates. Laugh [(-D]

Chief, duck and cover!  Tornados are one of the few drawbacks to living here.  I hear Ohio has had a few run ins with them too, so they can't hold that over on us.

Had a good day with the family.  Got done at work early and was able to pick up the car.  They even detailed it.  Then came home and went to Cracker Barrel.  Upon our return to the house, took the son upto the train room and got some more foam down under the tracks.  Hope is that I can get that done in the morning.  Then, have to get some connectors at the electronics store and begin the final wiring runs.  That part should be easy as I am just making straight runs from the feeders to the fuse blocks.

Well, time for bed.  Hope everyone has a great night.

Big Smile [:D]Got my train set i won off ebay in today. the one with the 671RR ithas a 2640 tender with a NYC shell Sad [:(] Need to correct that. It also came with 6801 boat flat car with no boat (easy fix jeff sells repos for $10.00) also the engine needs draw bar and a few minor springs and screws for the rear wheel assembly but thats all. It also came with a red 6462 gondola, a Red x6014 PRR Baby Ruth boxcar, a 16615 Removable search light depressed flat with generator on it , a 6257 Caboose and a 6437 K-LINE Boxcar SP that I will need to replace the trucks on it (well Maybe may take trucks off and use it like a storage boxcar along a siding (will have to do some major wheathering to it thou.)

The engine (left over smoke pill ) smokes like a champ on my test track holding it in place and the whistle sings like a lady beautifully.

The set really doesn'tlook like its been used that much . Also came with some O gauge tubalar track including a cross over (90 degree) a uncuplor track, and a box of curve s gauge Gilbert A.F. straight track and one of curve O.B. numbers 700 and 702.

So i got a good haul for what most pay for just the engine.

We received a "Preview Edition" of the Hogwarts Express at the store today.  It's a special edition with the engine and cars having an emblem with "Preview Edition" on them, an instant collectible.  It was shipped direct, via FedEx, from China.  It's our understanding that a limited number of dealers have received these to promote the set.  We've already put ours on the store layout.

For a starter set its not bad looking.  Typical of the British profile engines it has less clutter than a US unit but appears well done.  It has smoke, headlight and an air whistle, in the tender.

The Best Friend of Charleston has also proven popular, we've already sold out our first batch and have ordered more.

Doug(not)dagrump:  Great ideas on the Halloween cars...curious how he puts these together.  If anyone buys let me know.  Looks like PW flat cars and trucks.

dweimer:  Sounds like we both got a reprieve:  MIL called yesterday, and told us she is comming over with SIL, and SIL's new baby next weekend...Betrothed said no, gallstone operation that week.   MIL + SIL w/ baby = WORK  (in capitals)

Here's a new one...We brought back an extra suprise from vacation...Monday after our return, I started our 2007 Buick Raineer, and sounded like it was dropping a cylinder.  OnStar confirmed, and advised to get to the dealer.  Dealer called today, and said something ate the injector harness...one cable completely thru.  That's why the cylinder was dropping.  They replaced the injector harness...(no charge) (this is our third car from this dealer)

Moral of the story:  GM not only makes great cars and trucks...they taste good too!

good afternoon Y'all!  Chief, you mean you actually get to take it easy?  Over the last few months, it seems you have done anything but.  I guess being mayor has plenty of drawbacks.  Great job on the school/land deal.

Got some great news from Mercedes...had to take it in for catalytic converter making noise...they just called and had to replace both.  Would cost $1700.00, but were able to do it under warrantySmile,Wink, & Grin [swg].  Now, does that mean I can take that money and buy some much needed trains?Whistling [:-^]

Anyway, got a reprieve, MIL is not coming to town this weekend.  Even though I am on call, I will get some train work done.  I have a pile of things to work on also.  Lawn needs mowing, have to wrap the trees as the bucks are tearing them up.  Laz, can you help?

Hope everyone has a blessed weekend.

Morning all.  Special REB troops are on the way to Birmingham.  Got rope, tar, feathers and split rail.  Looking for some Yank with beard named Buckeye. Shock [:O]   He can not hide too good because all he has to do is say one word and they will know.  [He never could talk Southern].  Laugh [(-D]  Waiting for the rain.  Should be raining on Lisa.  They say it is moving east to us.  Will do some trains today.   Watching movie with Kevin Costner about Coast Guard Rescue.   Taking it easy today.  Too many rocks make the joints ache.  Have a good one.

Buckeye, you're going to have to get out of B'ham to get a taste of Alabama. Birmingham isn't called "Steel City" for nothing! It's got more in common with Pittsburgh than the rest of the state. Having said that, I personally like Birmingham. I've got two children living there.

The only colors allowed during college football season are crimson and white or orange and blue. Encounters between the opposing colors is quite entertaining! Anyone found wearing purple and yellow or orange and white will be escorted to the nearest state line by state troopers. Wink [;)]

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the high 70s.  Tmcc man, I read that about McLaren.  There is a person at work who believes there is a conspiracy to make sure Ferrari wins the constructor's championship every year, and he will be having a field day over this one.  Personally, I do not see where one team would get that big of an advantage.  For all we know, the information could have been "planted" for the Ferrari person to "steal".   If a person was convicted in a criminal court first, then you might have a case for penalties, but I am not sure if that has been done yet.  At least the drivers were not penalized...yet, and quite frankly who remembers who wins the constructor's title anyway.

I watched "my" soccer girls lose a winnable game last night.  The other team scored on two long range shots, and the team basically gave up after the second goal.  There was a little bit more substitution in the first half, but not much in the second half.  Also, I think some of the ladies are just out there some of the time.  The boys lost a controversial last second goal.  There were so many aspects that lead to the goal that it would take forever to explain it all.  The same two teams meet next Tuesday at home and I would hope this would fire the boys up.  I see where Abby and the "girls" beat Sweden 2-0 in the World Cup.  I did 30 minutes of track work at the YMCA last night and reviewed math with Lucas last night.  It will be interesting to see how he does on the quiz today.  The dining car arrived from "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Buckeye - You are in Alabama territory, or Auburn territory depending on what area you are in... If you run into some Alabama fans, ask them about the PSU/Bama games between The Bear and JoePa... you will get some very good stories. Smile [:)] Fans of both schools are really looking forward to the home-home series in a couple years.

Seriously... what part of Alabama are you in?  No fields?  No cattle?  You must be in Mobile - down by the coast... if so you have to have some Hushpuppies... they are really good down there.

---
JimF - No work on the shed for a couple weeks.  I've been fighting a cold for going on 10 days now, Susan thinks I need to go see a doctor - I keep telling her I don't go see doctors unless I've been laying in bed for 48 hours and unable to move, of I have dry heaves - all I need is sleep, OJ, zinc tablets, hot tea, chicken noodle soup, toast with honey, and some solid foods to keep me full, other than that let me be under a heavy blanket.  Hope to get back to it this weekend or next week.  It is supposed to be REAL FALL weather all next week into next weekend... highs in the low - mid 70's! Smile [:)]  Have to go pick up the new vanities, mirrors, and shower door tomorrow for the master bathroom remodel.  Hopefully I can talk Susan into picking out some tile...

---
Chief - Sounds like your School board has some Fiscal Responsibility issues... Whistling [:-^]

---
Doug - I didn't know they still made REAL war games like that any more.  Friends of mine and I used to get together back in HS and play every now and again.  One game took us nearly an entire school year to play... good times.

Kids are off to school.  Amazing in one year how thing change.  Used to be a hassle to get everyone moving and today it was like they were on cruise.  Everyone got up, dressed, fed and out the door without any proding.

I'll be heading down to the hospital  in about 2 hours or so. Painted some more of the tunnel on the layout yesterday evening.  Other than that it's pretty quiet here.

Have a great day all.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a partly cloudy, 64 degrees. Going up to 80 today, with a slight chance of a few showers this afternoon.

Today, I am taking it easy. I have a few minor chores to do, and then I will enjoy the rest. This has been a busy week. I will spend a few hours running trains later.

Buckeye....Sounds like you don't like being in the southern swamps very much. I bet you don't like the outside bathroom facilities either.

Only 3 more weeks until the Oct. 6th Train Show in Berea.

Dining Car has arrived and is serving breakfast. Then off to " Points West", for the next stop.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Morning to All

A fresh pot is on. Nice and hot to steam open those brain cells.

Wes- we made the Durango and Silverton trip about 8 years ago on Father's Day. That was probably my favorite Father's day present of all time.  It was really spectacular.  I know you will enjoy it.  We rode in the cheap seats and it was fine.  I loved crossing the trestle.  Wish we had made time for the Cumbres and Tolec.

Starting to get geared up for York next month. Making my mental checklist of items I want to search for.  Will probably start putting it on paper soon, as my brain can't hold all the information and then something will be forgotten.

Have a great day.
