The PE tender whistle sound could go either way in my opinion. It sounds like a diesel horn, but also a whistle...sort of. We have a NYC Flyer with Railsounds and the whistle isn't the same.

I wonder how The Beav made out today at the skin doctor's. Hope everything went ok, Beav!

It was full of fantastic ads and a few wonderful layout articles. Had one of the best soldering articles I've ever read - step-by-step with photos. Sorry to hear about the knee, Colin.

Doug, Railway Modeller is a good mag, I used to buy it as a kid. I tend to buy  Continental Modeller (the sister title) now as they cover US outline layouts. Though the best UK mag for any sort of US 3-rail is ModelRail in its International supplement. This month included a 3 page interview with Atlas and Atlas O.

Just won a Lionel 700E Lamp on ebay to add to my growing collecton of Lionel decor, should look good in the gamesroomCool [8D]. Tammy asked what I would like for Xmas. I replied a Lionel Bar stool. She rolled her eyes a sure sign that she has given up hope for meBig Smile [:D].

Hope to finish off the garage/gamesroom wiring this week and order the plasterboard(drywall).

Went to Tampa FL friday and saturday, came back on sunday.  Got to see the Ybor(eebur)City trolley system, they have one trolley car from the 1930's that still is able to run, most of the trolleys are current reproductions from Iowa.  The track is a single line over most of the way, at the end of the line the driver switches catenary poles and disconnects the one motor so the other can run, and switches the seats to face the other direction.  The cost is $4.00 a person for all day riding, senior citizens and children under 12 are only $2.00 a day.

Didn't bring back any train related items other than the tickets from the trolley system, also took a few photos of the trolley cars.  Had to wash the Corolla twice as the Love Bugs were so bad going across the state to Tampa and back.

Over the weekend one of my hobby shops called to tell me that my Super Street track by K-Line/Lionel came in, it was the wrong pieces as it was straight tracks and I need curves.

Also still raining down here, but a sprinkle here or there for about five minutes and moves on, no continous rain.

Lisa, glad you are doing better.  I had been laying low the past few weeks and did not catch your post regarding what was wrong, just saw a lot of well wishes...I added my prayers for you and the hubby.

On call and not much happening right now.  I have been a BAAAAD boy lately in that I have made a few purchases despite my train restrictions.  I got the Lionel Thomas "G" scale set for $33.00.  Also picked up a few other cars including a Polar Express "hot chocolate" car.  Bride didn't seem to mind.  Anyway, picked up some terminals I needed to get back to the wiring on the layout.  I should be able to start scenery this week once the wires are done.

Dr. John, the movie is coming together.  All the resources have come through and it is just a matter of the filming now.  We have a meeting this week and should be filming on the 15th of this month.  I will let you know about the release dates, etc.  PS: we had Tim Shephard at the church this Sunday.  Was a great concert.

Hope it is a blessed week for all,

Afternoon everyone from a beautiful day in NC.  Over night temps in the upper 50's and high today in the upper 70's with a gentle breeze.

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes.  My back is much improved - finally.  The husband is now back at work FULL TIME with no restrictions and deer hunting as much as he can.  I have restricted him to only hunting off the ground - No tree climbing this year!!!  I'm doing some home care visits for Bayada Nurses - have a really great patient who's a joy to see.

Hope to meet up with the Chief one day this week.  Have had some nice conversations via phone and e-mail with RT.

Colin - Hope all goes well with that knee.  Sad [:(]

Jumijo -Hope you're happy - You made me spit sweet tea all over my monitor with your "kneesles" comment.  Sure have missed your posting. Laugh [(-D]

Chief - Hope all went well today - email me your schedule for this week - see when we can get together - Also - need your input on a couple of items I won on eBAY.  (Have you noticed everyone thinks I'm your "sister" now? Whistling [:-^])

I thought I had something else to say but with this memory thing going around, I think I've forgotten what it was  Sigh [sigh].

Tmcc man,

I hope you get good news on your knee.  My daughter tore her ACL once, but she made a full recovery.  I would recommend a good sports med doctor to look at your knee.  Thoughts and prayers are going out to you.

Keep on training,

Colin - I've been there (torn ligaments) and still to this day 20 years later have problems with my knee.  All I can suggest is that you mind your doctor and do what he tells you.  I didn't until 8 years ago and now look where I'm at! Sad [:(]

Good afternoon everyone,

Well, I think I got some bad news today. I went to the orthopedic today, and he told me that I was showing signs of a torn ligament. He said I only want to say you show signs of because I'm not certain that it is torn. He then proceeded to take the fluid out of my knee, and when I saw it I almst cried because there was no fluid, only pure blood. So I have to get the MRI at 2 today. This dayis turning out to suck, and I had hoped that I would have gotten good news.

dbaker48 - that TANK-O-LANTERN is marvelous.

Speaking of Halloween, I know a lot of you guys like the spooky stuff for your layouts.  LEMAX has been putting out a different pirate ship every year, and I was trying to figure out how to encorporate a couple on a layout.  Then while on vacation in Ocean City, and playing lots of putt-putt golf... DING-DING-DING!!!  A carnival or fun-park with a pirate ship putt-putt course.

Morning all,,,,,,,I couldn't get on either. cloudy with rain expected. No trains running today yet. Chuck I agree it can't be time for winter already. I always said I would move from here if not for our kids, but after that 100 degrees & 200% humidity in the smokies area now I'm not so sure. I would like to get away during the snow months but my wife and her grandsons, oh she has to get them to the bus 1/2 block from the house.aye,aye,aye.     Sir James

The war was a good series. The one thing I'm always left asking whenever I watch a documentary on WWII is - how did these people find the courage to do the things they did? I can't even begin to imagine hitting a beach with all that fire power coming at me, or battling in close quarters, or seeing people die horrifically right next to me. I thank God that I never had to fight in a war.

As for Ken Burns, all his films are basically the same. Period music, static photos, a few action shots, and first person narratives in the form of letters or survivors talking about the experiences.  Only the subject matter changes. I wonder what he could do with a feature film.

As a matter of fact, it isnt. And yes, I have been.

Jim - Just don't loose your sense of humor, we need all the levity we can muster around here.  Maybe there's some kinda spell in the air, probably due to the Legacy and BB being so late, causing a bad karma.

With threads being generated about flames, lock downs, and instigating issues no wonder there is ill will.

THIS TOO WILL PASS, AND "THINGS" WILL GET BACK TO NORMAL WITH THE HOLIDAYS.

Had a busy weekend, where did the time go????

Saturday spent most of the day securing track, and checking clearance tolerances.  (Probably more time playing than working.)  Had 5 engines on various sections and would run them in different combinations to make sure no problems.  Have found out that the NW J (611), is the most critical on track surface.  Just behind the pilot wheels is this little "thingy" looks like a brake shoe.  Is RIGHT next to the trailing edge and any problem it finds.  Then because of the 8 drivers, the weight as it is distributed does not permit for any variation in elevation or the front will short out.  We're talking mm's here!  Then the swing on the Cab Forward when backing up is significant.  (Monkey Deck) At least a 2.75" swing on a 72 curve outside.  Given that I am trying to put 10# in a 5# bag, every cm is critical.

Anyway, get it ALL working then secure it!  So ended up with 1/2 of both mainlines secured and 1 long siding.  Then Sunday had to work, on my way home I was thinking about the auto carriers cars and their extended length.  Sure enough the swing of the Cab Forward picks up the auto carrier when on the siding at the apex of both curves.  So more adjusting.  Wondering how much clearence will be necessary for the Cab Forward and Big Boy when it arrives!

Then, yesterday servicing the pool equipment, and broke one of the DE grids.  Can't get a replacement until today.  So pool not running.  Today is bill paying day, ugh!

Hope everyone has a great day, and everyones health issues subside!!!

Including "The BEAV's" hand.

G'morning from a grey and rainy Chicago where it looks like we'll be sending a front or two or three eastwards. Worked on the Rail Zepp last evening and then watched Bro and Sis with the bride. Ugh, what a soap.

Tony Stewart sure surprised us with his post-race comments. Jim, I know what you me viz. Julia visiting whilst you were watching Band 'o Brothers (I read the book but never saw the series), Ben, the five year old, came into the room while I was watching The War - I got sucked into it despite a beautiful evening and the intermiable fund-raising plugs. Ken Burns sure likes his edits to linger on dead people.

    Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 60 degrees. Going up to 82, today, with lots of sunshine.

This is the first time I was able to access the Forum since 7:30am this morning. Must be a slow day. All other sites were ok.

Today I am busy. No time for trains. Chores to do and a few errands to run. Need to start putting the yard in order for the cold weather. It is October 1st, already. This year has flown by. Hate to think about winter.

Dining Car was here and I had breakfast. Then it headed out to " points west".

    Y'all have a great Monday.

    Good morning all,

It is raining in SE Indiana again with temps in the 70s.  Older daughter was down with her family yesterday to borrow the truck while theirs is getting fixed.  After they left, I watched a tape of the US women beating Norway for the bronze medal .  I will watch Brazil and Germany later.  I also watched "Desperate Housewives" as well.  The dining car had bacon and biscuits yesterday and cereal and cinnamon rolls this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

    Keep on training,

    Morning all,

Start night shift tonight so off this morning.

Don-I think you are right, I tried to acess earlier and could not and tried again just a little later and got on.  Maybe server maintenance.

Chief- Hope all comes out well with the removal of the C spot.  If folks ask about the bandage tell them a beaver bit you.

It is beautiful in Southern Ohio.  Clear cool sunny.  Got most of the footer digging finished for the garage addition yesterday.  Ran into another foundation.  I remember as a kid there were two garages back to back with a space in between.  I just happen to select the location for the addition right on top of where the old garages were.  I don't think the foundation is going anywhere once poured.

Daughter bring her van up for some exhaust work.  Hopefully that won't take too long so I can get back to digging.

All take care, Lisa, be careful with your back.  Dr. John hoe you mom is doing good.  Two other guys had wives recovering, hope they're doing good.  The time frame is about where they are feeling good enough to start doing things but try and do too much to catch up with things that did not get done while they were laid up.  Don't ask how I know this.

    May God bless

    Jim
