Thunder in the west - maybe we'll get something to make up for the trace amount of rain we got day before yesterday.

Jim - sorry to hear about your dog.

Buckeye - you need the new Lionel snowblower. Hey - reverse the fan and you have a leaf vacuum for the fall!

Have a great evening all!

Was a good, but busy day.  Did one of the big type cases today, everything was great, except that these can be very taxing on the mind and body.

Pine straw, I have plenty!  In fact, this weekend, I burned about 10 bales of extra pine straw.  I usually get about a few hundred bales.  It takes about 120 bales to do our flower beds, then I give a few hundred bales away each time I pick up the straw.  I have a sweeper/baler that I pull behind the tractor and it does all the work.  It really does make great mulch as it will not float away with heavy rain.

Got a little delivery tonight, I will start a thread.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Dennis

I always thought pine straw (needles) killed your lawn and stuff, but I guess it's just 'cause it covers over the lawn - mulch?  Learn something new every day - that's my motto and really easy for me to do, knowing so little about so much!

Cable modem died.  Won't even give back a signal to the cable guys.  Need to take off early tomorrow and exchange it.  I want to do it early enough that I can go back and complain if that doesn't work.  Funny thing is that my wife (!!!!) upgraded our service today and that's apparently what killed it.  I logged into the neighbors unsecured network to get on the internet tonight.  Let this be a lesson to any of you guys out there with wireless who didn't bother to secure it with WPA etc - evil hackers like me might use your connection to go on toy train websites!Big Smile [:D]  Hope their internet provider doesn't go after them!!!

Reading my Wiring your Layout book - some stuff I already knew, but a surprising amount that I never understood before (See above - knows little, etc).

Jim, sorry to hear about your dog.  I had a bird for years, Tai Tai, and it about killed me when she died.  Before that, my dog from when I was a boy had to be put down, but I was away at college and so missed saying goodbye.  God bless us all -- and, if it's not too much trouble, let it snow on North Carolina - just a few acres near a pond!  Chief, you ever read a story by Manly Wade Wellman called (I think) King of the Pineys?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Oh yeah, and the other thing - my camera is back from Best Buy but still won't connect to the computer, so I guess it's not fixed after all!  Need to take it back again I guess.

Evening all.  Jim , our Peek is 13 1/2 and still going.  Once in a while he will just yell and get stiff.  We think that is it.  Next thing you know he is up and going.  Why wife will not travel with me.  When he goes, she will as Burg the Lab will be OK with neighbor letting him in and out.

Ran trains this AM while Frankie videoed with digital camera.  Ran PW and mdoerns.  Fill room with smoke.  That will make you cough and cough.  Headache too.  We pressure washed all the buildings [big tractor/boats shelter, shop, lawnmower garage, tool shed, big garage and house].  Got through at 3PM.  Got hair cut and ate.  We went to pond at 5 PM.  Caught oen bass and then switched to crappie fishing.  Kept 5 of the biggest [all ove a pound].  Filleted them for him.  Tired now.

Mocrowave popcorn time and rest.

Umm. Well, Belzoni, Mississippi is pretty much catfish farm central. Much more lucrative than raising cotton. Whistling [:-^]

Actually, we bale the pine straw and feed it to the catfish! (They'll eat just about anything.) Wink [;)]

Just got in from meeting Fifedog and running trains!  Had a blast!  Fife is even nicer in person than he is here on the boards... Heck of a nice layout he has.  Was able to determine that I can't have as steep an incline as he has because most of my engines won't be able to pull that grade!

Lots o' smoke!  The 681 was really pumping out the smoke tonight... don't think we got pics of that! Sad [:(] But we did get some nice shots for Sunday! Approve [^]

After running trains we hit a local eatery... Dinner [dinner] good beer, good wings, good friends, running trains... couldn't have been a better night!  Thanks Fife!  Next one's on me!

Good morning from New England!

Temps heading towards 70 today before a cold front moves through for the rest of the week.

Starter sets were running last night on the JUMIJO. That little 4-4-2 we have sure can smoke!

Not much else to report. The weather was nice, so the kids and I spent much of the afternoon outside for a change.

Have a great day, all!

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and warm in SE Indiana today with temps in the 70s again.  It hit 80 in Indy yesterday, which was a new record.  I did get outside last night and enjoyed the nice day with a walk with my wife.  Otherwise did not do a whole lot.  It is supposed to cool off some by the weekend, but for now it is nice.  I better send the dining car to "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a warm 55 degrees, with a light rain. Going up to 67 today. Rain should stop by this afternoon. Looks like no sun today.

Today, I am driving up to Cambridge, to do the weekly grocery shopping. A job, that has to be done. Gas prices, continue to climb. Something about the refineries output. Hmmmm.

Maybe later, I'll get some time in the train room. I have a little more cleaning up to do. So far, all seems to be going well with the new section.

Dining car has arrived from " points west ". Ready for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

hello guys! it's been awhile scence I was last here.

hey check this out

Our Historic Engines Need Help!

Photos by Tim Zimont and Mark Spremulli

In 2004, the MNGRR's Steam Program fell under the jurisdiction of the Federal Railroad Administration. This means all four of our steam locomotives now have to go through a thorough inspection. FRA mandated upgrades must then be completed before a locomotive is allowed to run. At the start of 2004, the MNG used its available funds to put Monson Railroad engine #4 through the FRA process. To this day, number 4 is our only available locomotive.

The museum has since set aside funds to put Bridgton and Harrison engine #7 through the same process. Since #7 is much bigger than #4, the cost for rehabilitating engine 7 exceeds what the railroad can currently afford. We estimate it will cost between $25,000 and $30,000 to put #7 back on track. We will not start the restoration work until we have the sufficient funds to complete the project. We need your help!

A Maine native, #7 is a 1913 Baldwin built for the Bridgton and Saco River Railroad. Weighing in at 33.5 tons, #7 is a 2-4-4RT type locomotive that hauled passengers and freight in New England for nearly 100 years! After her career in Maine, in 1947, she went to the Edaville Railroad in South Carver Massachusetts as founder Ellis D. Atwood's first engine!

She made her return to Maine in 2002. She saw occasional service at the MNG in 2002 and 2003, but has not turned a wheel under steam since.

Please consider a tax-deductible donation to put this engine back into service!

Checks should be made out to the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad. Most importantly, be sure to include a note indicating that the check is for the "Engine 7 Fund."

You can also click the donate link on the left, and during the payment process you may specify "Engine 7 Fund" in the memo field.

Good morning from the Bluegrass!

Well, it rained like the dickens here last night and this morning but it seems to be shaping up to be another beautiful Spring day.  My little girl (2 yrs) wanted to run the Pole Ex yesterday so we ran it for awhile, she loves to make the whistle blow.  Now, she'll stand at the top of the stairs or come patting my leg pointing saying "tree" (her version of train), who am I to say no to this?

Anyways, I'm really, really tired this morning as I was up way to late last night doing Hebrew worksheets that I still don't understand......*sigh* this too shall pass, I just hope I do.  I can't tell this morning if I'm just really tired or if I'm in a bad mood too, Ashamed [*^_^*].  I guess we'll find out, huh?  LOL

Anywho, I hope all are doing well today, and keep me in your thoughts as I'm in class today until 5:15pm, ugh!  Take care

Good morning from a sunny and warm Chicago where it is supposed to go back below freezing tomorrow so I am enjoying it while I can. Who knew pine straw was so interesting?

Jim, I hope you are able to spend more time with Sue; somewhat like Dr. John, we have an 8 year old mini-dauschund who I can just see getting older.

ATS, I can see she would be hard to resist.

Lots of trauma at our church lately - staff being fired confusingly; people up in arms, etc. Sometimes it sure is easier working in the "marketplace."

My latest effort to create a freight motor shell has been officially declared a failure by the General Manager of the JTC.

Goodmorning All,  Seems fires are under control out here.  Could be a terrible fire season this year.  We have only had 2.25 inches of rain all year.  The lowest in recorded history.  Temp in mid 70s today.

Still working on house painting project, got wall paper off 1/2 of stairway yesterday, finish that up today.  BOY, DO I HATE WALL PAPER!  Got accousic ceiling taken down, that part is easy.  Did find some Black Mold on 1 wall, about a 14" circle, got to figure out how to get rid of it.

Didn't get anywhere with my people population of our UP pass cars.  Victims, are still in preop awaiting some aputation modification.  Ran trains for about a half hour last night, playing with the DCS controller re-entering train numbers and identiy.  Sure like the DCS controller.

Arnies (LHS) having their bi-annual sale this week 20% off all Lionel and MTH buildings.  I'm not going, saving for York.

Have a great day, enjoy the weather, looks nice today.

Morning all,
Alarm clock functions great when you set it up correctly!  Feeling better today, still have ringing in ears... hope this gets fixed next week!

Laz,
Yeah Fife and I had a blast!  I had wings, Fife had shrimp and ribs - the bartender/waitress talked him into it - but it was still great!  Downloaded the pics to the comp this morning and they look pretty good!  No pics of the 681 Sad [:(], sorry Frank!

Wow, those times are never easy for anyone.  It sounds as if people are really hurting because of the events in the chuch.  I've been in a couple of very difficult situations in churches and they really do tend to tear at your very core, simply because you care so much.

And yeah, working in the "marketplace" is easier for me simply because I go in expecting things to happen, and rarely do I allow myself to "trust" non-church employers in the same way that I do church employers.  That being said, I'd never change a thing.  My prayers are with you and yours.

Mornin' boys.  88 is posting some rather nice things today.  Since it was our first meeting, I was on my best behavior.  He brought some nice engines with him to stretch out.  I was surprised how much tech MTH puts in their RUGGED RAILS products (nice detail, lots of cab-chat,bi-directional lighting).  Brent's Lionel 0-8-0 C&O steamer was a gorgeous model, I just didn't have the TMCC to make it sing.  The star of the show was the 681.  Really ate up my steep grades with train in tow.  All-in-all a good time.

ATSJer - love them boots.

Doug,

I've always used p[lain old hot water in a spray bottle with excellent results. Even with vinyl wall coverings. I peel off the top layer, (which is very easy)  then spray the walls with the hot water. The paper comes right off with a putty knife! Try it, you'll like it . . .

Afternoon all,

Thank you for the kind words about my dog.  Sue the Golden Retriever made it through the night, acting better and is eating.  I though for sure we'd be going to the vet to put her down this morning.  Who knows, she does not appear to be suffering so I will wait.  Here is a picture from earlier this winter

I spent the yesterday in the yard watching petting Sue and doing much needed yard work.  Today I was at church working on a circulating pump for the heating system.  Got it apart, trashed inpeller, coupler, and seals.  Parts on order ~$100, sure beats a replacement at ~$450.

I've removed a bunch of wallpaper even to old stuff with horse glue, and warm water with some vinegar in a spray bottle, and a paper tiger to abraide the surface works fantastic.  I won't go so far as to say it's fun, but it does work good.

I may go training before I study, like Stephen Covey says, first things firstWhistling [:-^]
