Evening all!

We ended up with about 3 in of rain over the last 24 hrs. Most of it came in deluges and then it lightly rained the rest of the time. It's good. Some lingering drizzle and we are in low 60's now. 50's tonight.

Fifer - good deal on layout progress!

Anj - great pic on the firehouses!

Busy day today so pretty tired.

Regards, Roy

Good evening all,
Sort of quiet and busy day at work.  Walk was nice at noon.  Insurance adjuster looked at van.  May know something tomorrow.   Maybe start looking at vehicles this weekend.   Love driving the truck, but the truck does not love my kidneys.  Quiet night at home.  Going to training/conference tomorrow.  At least out of the office.  I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Rain expected off/on all day. Tiger opener postponed till tomorrow.

I'm a buy USA whenever possible so I drive a Ford product. Even though the parts probably come from all over the world. What you buy is your choice so don't start a brand war.

Just more of the same crappy weather here.

Mike, what kind a truck you driving that rides that bad? My 2011 Silverado road better than the wife's Torrent. The new Colorado is a smooth ride to but a little stiffer than the Silverado. Shorter wheelbase. I did like the Outback I saw at the Auto show.

But:

I can't bring myself to buy non-union or non USA when I am spending almost 40K. But to each his own.

Good Afternoon from overcast 60°F Southern Ohio,

It does not seem to be slowing down any at work.  I've felt bleh the last few days and this morning I woke with a fever, and night clothes soaked with sweat.  Final straw was when I felt dizzy getting dressed.  Went to urgent care and dignosed with Flu B.  Got a precription and been taking it easy, but not getting anything done.  With Holy Week starting this evening I figured this is not the time to slug through the flu with home remedies alone.  About 3 hours after first dose feeling better.

I did get the chicken coop cleaned up and the critters all taken care of.

Have a Blessed Holy Week

Went to a luncheon yesterday for retired Southern Pacific railroaders.  It was great fun.  Had'nt seen some of them in18 years.  Sadly some of them were not good.  One conductor I knew was suffering from ALS and was in a wheel chair.  We swaped a lot of funny stories of things that happened to us while working on the railroad.  I leave for the East a week from Sunday.  Got everything arranged but still waiting for the airline to call about special needs.  I use a portable oxygen concentrator when I fly.  I have my own.  Have a good day.

Evening all!

Sunny and 60's, not bad.

Ray - we will hope the airline will take good care of you. They are usually pretty good. That old timers RR meet sounds like a good time, glad you enjoyed it!

My next door neighbor in Houston was retired SP. He ended up in management. Told a story about one of the strikes in the 60's. Management ran as many trains as they could. He said they carried clean shirts and ties. Usually stopped short of the yards, they would change into clean shirts and ties and strut past the picket line at the yard employee entrance after parking the train.

Phish - hope you feel much better soon!

88 - glad you checked in!

Good Evening,

Been awhile, still plugging away.  Did get the taxes done, and that worked out well.  A little work for our ink/paper company, and it's doing fine.  Went to a movie with Kay, saw "Wrinkle in Time", ehh, not for me, but she enjoyed it.  Gives her a little break from the in-law issues.  (We are at the hospital at least once or twice a week.  Situation not getting any better but doing the best we can.)

On the train front, connected some xing signals with isolated rails, and they even work as desired.  Also did some maintenance work on a couple engines and cars.

Buckey, Congrats on the retirement!  Who is going to pick up the SS slack???  Give you 6 months before you start looking for something to do.

RT, Glad Donna is home and doing well.  Best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Roy, Can't believe the complexity of the job your working on.  Typically most engineers don't do well multi-tasking, can't imagine how you keep on top of all the permeatations your dealing with.

Ray, Sounds like you had a great week-end, and a good trip coming up.  Just be careful and have fun.

Time for dinner, so take care all.

Good evening all,

Congrats, Buckeye on retirement.  Hope to join in a few years.  Class was very very very good today.  One of the best training sessions ever.  Drove a used Mazda 5 home tonight.  Probably will get it.  Is it the ideal choice?  No.  Is it better than most of our options.  Probably.  Rained all day today.  At least it was warmer.  Truck is a 99 Dodge Dakota.  It is really not a bad ride for a truck.  Just not as smooth as the Encore or even the minivan.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Another day of gloom and cold for our Good Friday.

Gave the deer the last of the 700LB of corn I got for them last night. Better start greening up soon.

Buckeye, congrats on retirement.  Yes  Rob will need to pick up the SS slack. Wink

Mike, I had a 2001 Dakota 4x4 I bought new for 11 years. Good truck but a real gas hog compared to the last two Chevy’s.  Good luck with the Mazda. Our neighbor has had many of them. Her kids smash them up them as fast as she could buy them. Smile, Wink & Grin

Have a great Easter weekend guys.

Morning All,

Nice to be off today for the long weekend. I wish the weather was better. I signed up for MRVP and spent the morning watching Drew's Trackside Adventures and sipping on coffee. The dog is looking hopeful there may be a walk happening in the near future.

MikeC - As much as I want a truck too, I still find the good ol' Grand Caravan does the job. Unlike some trucks, I can get a full sheet of plywood or drywall in the back, have lots of room for my hockey or golf gear and plenty of room for the family.

Jim - Hope you're feeling better. It's certainly a busy weekend for the church!!

Buckeye - Congrats on the retirement! What's first on the "honey do" list? Laugh

Have a good one and prayers.

Good Morning from overcast and drizzly 46°F Southern Ohio

I'm feeling much better today.  The prescription must be doing some good.  I'm still on self-imposed light duty as the Good Friday Services are much more involved.  The Holy Thursday Service went well.  Finished with Exposition and got home about 11:30 pm.

My truck is probably the most comfortable riding and drive vehicle we have.  It is a 2003 crew cab 3500 dually with the 6.6 Duramax and Allison.  Overkill, maybe.  Carrys 5 adults, tows > 14K.  Unloaded you'll get, ~20mpg when you keep the RPMs around 1650.  If it has a downfall, it would be the size.  It take a bit of space where ever it goes.

Kev – I too have been backing off on the deer corn.  Things are greening up so the transition is gradual.  I did see one of the young bucks, looks like a 2 year old with a beautiful wide and tall 10 pt rack already.  His papa is a frequent visitor too and he is awesome.

Buckeye – Congratulation on your retirement!  You've certainly earned it.

Have a blessed Good Friday

Got an Odyssey N&W mallet on the way. Bought used but reported in excellent shape. Price was great and got it below asking.

Buckeye retired.  OMG  Now that willbe the laziest person in the world.  Should back up to his retirement check.

Have a great holiday.

Buckey, Congrats on the retirement!  Who is going to pick up the SS slack???  Give you 6 months before you start looking for something to do.

So the boss calls me today to wish me a great retirement and then says, "You know the new person doesn't know anything about transportation.  We will be in touch to have you help us periodically with marketing and proposal writing."  Bang Head Maybe he assumes I can help him with transportation projects in Hawaii. Idea

Don, I'll be at the Port of LA on April 26th.  I arrive at 12:00 am and depart at 4:00 pm. at the port near San Pedro. I have no idea how far that is from casa del Don.

As to the SS slack, I'm looking forward to seeing the Chief in the Roseyville Debtor Prison.  Whistling

Good evening all,

Took Mazda to local mechanic for him to run the scope on it.  Came back with probably more expenses than what they were asking for it.  Took it back to the dealer and said, "Thanks, but no thanks."  Took Dakota in for oil change, but took minivan to body shop I have used in the past.  They said the frame is ok and just put a used bumper on it.  Looks like we are keeping the van.  Did look at a couple more lots and found stuff we know we did not want.  Maybe this will out for the best.  Watched Blue Bloods tonight.  Good episode.  Congrats again to Buckeye and make sure to charge where you worked enough to make it worth your while.

Keep on training,

Good Morning,

Had a great day yesterday!  Chris had the day off, and asked if I wanted to go "Off Roading".  Well Yeah!  So we took care of a couple of chores, and off we went.  The trail was close by, just north of Ray's place, in the San Gabriel Mtns.  (Rincon Shortcut OHV Trail.)  The current trail is a little over 10 miles.  We got to the end and ran into a camper that had been out there a couple of weeks.  He about talked our arms and legs off.  The scenery was beautiful, had a really good time.

Buckeye, that's great!  Would really like to see you! I'm only about 7 or 8 miles from the port. Will give you a call.  (Sounds like a cruise in order)

Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!  We are going to take a "Brunch" over to Kay's parents, typically they would come over here, but they are not up for the trip.

An interesting little story;  Last September her parents went to do some shopping, they stopped at the .99 cent store.  MIL was driving, (FIL hasn't drove in 6 or 7 years), anyway when she was parking, she ran into the "Handicap Parking" sign.  The sign was set in cement.  It ended up totally the car.  So a couple ow weeks later they decided to get another car, and leased a Camry.  So the 6 month check up is coming up next month.  OK no problem, however the only has 150 miles on it!  So thought maybe have Chris drive it to the mine, he did so this past week, just to put some miles on it.  So now it has a little over 1100 miles.  Chris' car leased in Nov., has almost 15,000 miles on it!  He plans on buying it out at end of lease, but thought might as well take advantage of the situation and try and balance some mileage.  Will definetly be interesting to see what happens in the future, could end up with 5 cars again.

Take care all and enjoy Easter Sunday!

Chief....Correction - I'm your Youngest Buddy. Big Smile

Roy.... Where do I pay my dues? The Chief said to send him a check for $1,000 for my club dues  this year. However, as you know he sent the Roseyville Police Force in their Ford Falcon Police Car to track me down several years ago. There is still an infinitesimal amount of mistrust on my part.  Whistling

Don.... Yes, we will be riding the NCL Pearl into the Port of LA.

Okay, I'm into this retirement thing for almost a day. What do I do now? After 44 years planning, surveying, designing and constructing buildings, plants, bridges, roads, signals, lights, signs, etc., I was thinking about going back to law school to sue the pants off the idiots that don't know how to do it correctly. SoapBox If a government owner changes the plans without the architects/engineer’s knowledge and then the project has a failure, let's blame it on the architect/engineer and/or contractor and try to collect damages.  Idiots! SoapBox Off.

You know I now have more time to run the trains.

Good evening all,

Got MR and Trains today.  Wife and I did some antique shopping today.  She got a few things.  We went to Frisch's afterwards for a nice meal.  Did chase the local Honda train which had 3 engines pulling it.  Watched 2 soccer matches.  Local Indy team lost their home debut in Lucas Oil Stadium 1-0.   Windy weather today.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
