Guten abend,
Our Saturday has been calm and relaxing, which was the first day of that sort in a while. The boys will be sleeping at some friends tonight, so the wife, princess, and I will dine out. The princess spent five hours with friends this afternoon. She is sad about leaving them. I cashed in all my loose euro change I will not need; came out to 54 euros. It's time to go eat.
SP Ray - I will be praying for you and your family.

Hey, sorry, I've been missing in action....
I'm in Jacksonville, FLA USA for training for the new job. I'm on week 2 of 2, as I'm training to become a automotive diagnostic techncian. I will not be working on cars, but diagnosing them and then clearing the codes out. Better pay, better future and just about the same commute only going south.
Got a call from my LHS that my LionChief+ Blue Comet has arrived, so I'll have to make arraignments to get that taken care of.
Weather here, for the most part, has been warm in the 50s and cloudy.
Thursday it was 75 and yesterday it was 70. It will be back in the 50's all week.
I'm fighting off the crud as well, dosing with as much Vitamin C as possible. I'm ok, but I can feel it.
Hope to check back during the week, prayers to those in need....
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
Mornin' boys. Whatever the white precip is on the ground, it's treacherous to walk on. A bit concerned about the dinner train I'm conducting tonight, as the tuntable tends to freeze up. Perhaps push/pull would be safer...
Welllll, got the ruined carpet all cut up, bagged, and outside. It was stinkin' up the joint. Got a contractor on tap for the drywall repair. Waiting on adjustor from insurance now. House is a mess with everything we had in storage out and about.
Y'all need a few quarts of homemade chicken soup!
Roy, hope you are doing better on the flu. Tomorrow will be two weeks since I came down with a virus. Antibiotics don't work on it. I tried that. Also cough medicine, inhalers, nose spray, nothing seems to do much good. Cough comes and goes but is still with me after two weeks. Have been to doctors three times with no improvement. Now I have a new problem with my feet. Foot doctor thought it was athletes foot and gave me medicine for it but not working too good. Will probably have to go back to my dermatologist. Have appointments this month with gastrointerologist and dentist. Too many appointments. My sister with cancer in N.C. just broke her hip. Cancer is attacking her bones now. She has survived for 6 years with it but it is catching up with her now. Also my brother has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He is responding to treatment so far. This year is starting off with a bang. Here's hoping for better days ahead.

Good evening all,
Stayed home today and had a dental appointment instead. Work was busy on Thursday. Went to see "Darkest Hour" Thursday night. Very, very, very good movie. Watched "Rock of Ages" tonight. Really laughed a lot. Talked to Lucas tonight. They are doing well. Get to watch 3 soccer matches this weekend. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Friday was busy and productive. I shipped one vehicle and sold the other. The shipping process actually took less time than the selling process. There were some discrepancies with the inspection paperwork for the car I sold which added another 45 minutes to the process. We are now driving a rental car until we leave Tuesday and then we will have a rental car once we arrive to BWI. I should be off to bed soon.
Good night,
Someone left the freezer door open again.

Hello there,
weather idiots are in a tizzy. 60 here this AM. Supposed 16 tomorrow. Anywhere from a "trace" to a blizzard of snohio depending on which "model" you believe.
Yesterday son and I got the buzz saw on the Oliver and got the new lacer on the belt. Cut a wheelbarrow load of wood to check it out. Worked good. Finally ready to cut trees.
I think I might have caught Roy's crud. Tired, achy, tummy churning and copious amounts of gas coming out of both ends. Gonna reclinerize till it's time to get Mrs.
Later.
Prayers for those in need.

SJ - I should have recorded the flake and sent it in to the news! I saw more snow than most of the news channels!
Still 29 right now. Maybe 40 today and 20's again tonight. 20 mph winds. Sunny.
Yo-yo'ing on this disease. Yesterday was a good day and today is another setback. Each setback day seems a little better than the previous bad day. 12th day.
Regards, Roy
Roy you should have used a whole bag of salt, snowflakes are tricky.
I got one day of green grass, last nights rain turned to snow this morning. Winter has returned. Club meet tomorrow, train show on Sunday.

Well - just before dark we got one snowflake on the pool deck. I quickly ran out and poured half a cup of rock salt on it so it did not turn into sheet ice....
It's almost bedtime here but I figured I had time for a quick post. I was able to successfully close my utilities accounts today and check off some other to-do list items. Tomorrow, I will sell my car and ship another. We will use a rental until we depart on Tuesday. The house we will rent in Virginia has a 16x13 room that is mine to use as a train room. Initially I wanted to use the entire room for a layout but now I am deciding to not go that route. We will rent this house and probably live there only two years; therefore, I do not want to build an elaborate, large for me, layout for such a short period of time. I want to run trains soon as they have been in boxes for almost two years. Also, my comic book collection is growing and I would like to dedicate some of the room to that hobby. I may post on OGR asking for help designing a 5x12 layout using what track inventory I have. I have a fair amount of Snap Track and FasTrack. When I finally have a permanent layout I will probably not use either of those as Snap Track has limited availability and diameter size nowadays and I found FasTrack loud and expensive. I do not want to invest in more track for a temporary layout and want to use my existing inventory. At this time I am okay with the layout having two different track systems. I need to get some rest now.
Don B. - If we forget something, the wife will buy another.
Good night,Joe
Hey all!
Temps plummeting. Started in the mid 50's and headed to 30's this afternoon. Howling north wind at 20-50 mph.
Thanks for the concerns. Wife and I already hit our respective doc's last week. Both on antibiotics. Nothing else to do but wait and watch out for pneumonia.
Actually better today. I was able to sleep in for once.
News all in a snit here. Might get an INCH of snow. They have whipped the city into a shame frenzy to spend a lot of money pre-treating all the roads when the probability is extremely low. Man the plows!
Good Afternoon from 61°F Southern Ohio,
With these temps it’s hard to believe the bottom is going to drop out tomorrow. The predicted snow is to start Friday evening, so Saturday we will be shoveling the hill on the driveway and sledding. Last night after work I took some of the outside decorations down to get a head start so I can get the decorations down and put away Friday.
Roy – Take care of yourself
Spank – Daughter is a big Star Wars fan and she said there is some kind of agreement not to CGI the Leia character. She said there is a lot of footage that can be used but will require script re-writes
May God bless
Jim
Good morning,
55 but 17 by bedtime. Snow is all but gone. Single digits by Sunday. No wonder everyone is sick.
I am holding my own but wifey sounds bad. Going to try to get her in to see if she can get something for the cough.
Don't have much in the works but to hang out and rest up.
Roy, I agree with Don, you had better get checked out. I just made a DR. App for the wife. Better to be safe about it than wind up in the hospital.
Roy,
Think its time to call in reinforcements, this years flu is pretty dangerous from what I've been told. You need to get to the Dr.
Don
Evening all!
Big cold front will hit tomorrow and they are predicting SNOHIZO!
Big set back today on the cold or whatever this is...totally wiped out...ugh...later
Quiet day at work. Warmer for the walk. Played a little bit of soccer tonight. That was nice. I hope everyone has a good day.
Damp to the bone but melting so that is fine. Heavy fog from the warm air and frozen ground. Went to Farm & Fleet and a lot of spots where you could not see very far.
Wife and I are still fighting off the crud Roy has passed around for us all.
You guys out west are sure taking a beating from Mother Nature's Paradise. WOW!
If you have not made good money the last three years you should shoot your investment advisor or have him arrested.
Good Morning from balmy 36°F Southern Ohio,
The above freezing temps make taking care of the critters easier. I think I’m going to get a water warmer for the chickens. Rural King has them for about $30. I bought a heated dog water bowl when they were on sale for $10 and it has been great. The rabbits are another issue so we just change out pans a couple times a day.
After reading of Fife’s water woes I started tracing out waterlines in the new house to ensure they are at least protected from freezing. At times like this I wish the basement was not finished with drywall ceilings.
Our local Columbia Gas (natural gas) provider has a program going on where they come and do an energy assessment. After the assessment they make recommendations to improve your home’s energy efficiency. If you do the energy saving recommendations there are rebates and incentives to pay for the improvements. At this point were given a “nest” thermostat, several faucet aerators and shower heads, a few boxes of LED lightbulbs, and I’m getting additional insulation added to the attic at a greatly reduced cost. The initial assessment was $20. If you’re interested go online and see if your natural gas provider has a similar program. The rebates and incentives are very location specific.
Friday is to be above 50°F so when I’m off I’m going to get the outside lights down and put away.
I’m going start planning the train room renovating! Lighting and repainting will be on the list. What would be other things for me to do before I start benchwork?
Don – I heard about the rain and land slides on the way into work. Man the area is getting a one / two punch.
Joe – I hope you move is with minimal stress.
Doug – hope you’re feeling better
Good Evening, (A very late evening)
DougDG, Sure hope your situation improves quickly, you have been through so much already. Prayers for you both my friend, think of you often. God Bless.
Joe, Things really moving fast for you, hope you don't forget anything, its a long way to go back!
Can't believe this storm that went through, doesn't seem like much, we only got 2" here. But it was all in 1 or 2 hours.
But not so for the folks north of us in Monticito, 13 know dead, numerous houses moved right off the foundations. Many homes just swamped with mud, even Oprah sustained damage. 30 miles of Hwy 101 closed due to mud and debree, Amtrack shut down the Coast train. What is bad that at 10:00 Sunday night everything was pretty calm, just sprinkles. Then between 1 and 2 a downpour with 40-50mph winds and rain coming down at 70 degree angle. Then about 4 am the slides start occurring with the mud and stuff. There are a number of people missing and the fear is that they are buried. Tuesday will probably bring a lot more bad news. (I've never seen this much damage due to slides so quickly.) Similiar story to the south of us in the Corona area, again all secondary to the previous fires.
Can never underestimate mother nature.
Guten morgen,
Five nights down in the temporary lodging. I am not ready to leave Germany but we are ready to not have to sleep on an uncomfortable bed. In seven days we will be on a plane to BWI. Yesterday was the final day of packing the house; the movers were fast and finished in two days. Today I will meet the landlord at the house for an inspection and closing of the lease. Then I start the mad rush of closing all the utilities which is more difficult than in the US. You have to go in-person with the final meter readings and either the companies owe you money or you owe them money. Either way, the transactions occurs right then. The reason you may receive or owe is due to the companies averaging your payments over the course of the year based upon two meter readings per year. I need to get the kids to school now.
RIP - John B.
Dougdagrump - I hope things turn around for you.
Good day,
Busy day at work but not so much that I regretted staying home Monday. Still cool for a walk today. Fife, sorry to hear about your pipe issues. Ugh, sounds like a mess. I hope everyone has a good day.
wupped tonight.
Spent the day undoing Christmas outside. Thankfuly the weather guessers were wrong. Said 30 would be the high with clouds. Looked at the thermometer mid afternoon and it was 45 and sunny. Got all the outdoor stuff down at our house. Mrs helped me get it to the garage.. I'll put it away tomorrow Son helped me with the ladder and I got all the lights off the big tree at mom's and piled on the porch bannister. Still a few more things to take down tomorrow.
Fife........The Monroeville show as gone down hill over the years. Used to be I never missed it. Even though it's an hour and a half for me I attended sporadialy the last several years for all the reasons you mentioned plus the fact that parking sucks. Usually end up way far away. That was the main reason I didn't go last weekend.
RIP John Bakker. I often wonder how some of those no longer postin are doing
I'm going to have a glass of wine and watch the Farm Show a bit before bed.
Evening all!Only 48 right now. Maybe 55 tomorrow. Freezing temps at night this weekend.Just a little better today, so things are improving, but very slowly. Ugh. Still can't sleep through the night...
Dougnotta - man, you are taking it in the shorts big time. All our best for your healing. Tolberts since they left their original location in uptown just ain't the same - and it is not fun to get to Grapevine and back.
DougM - to clarify, Feb 18 is Daytona, NASCAR 1st race of the season. One of Chucks favorite sports.
Mustered the energy to work on cleaning files in the office. Cleaned out one file cabinet drawer of old work stuff. I worked from home my last 15 years so I accumulated quite a bit. Gonna take some time.
Evening all. It reached 69* here today I went out to ride the bike but it was low on air in the tires so pulled the compressor out and filled them, figured since I have it out might as well check the truck and the car. Truck was about 1LB shy in each wheel the car was about 5 per wheel ( the car just sits in the garage ) I haven't had it out on the road since early October. We use the truck. Well after that it was too late to ride ( just got done doing it) so packed everything back up and will try to ride bike tomorrow seeing it's suppose to be about same temp.
No real train news going on.
Hope all doing well.

G'day All.
Was hoping 2018 would be a good start to a new year, that lasted about a half the day on Jan 1. All our spouses had joined us at the museum and yours truly was feeling great. Unfortunately no sooner had I finished preparing lunch for everybody and my day ended abruptly. My BetterHalf took care of serving while I spent a good deal of time in the john with both ends going. Then went out to the truck and stretched out in the back seat and slept for a couple hours, the BetterHalf and other members took care of my trains til time to go home. Unfortunately things have not changed since day one. I'm off the operations schedule for quite a while.
Roy, Maybe you need to take a "road trip" down to Tolberts in Grapevine for a big bowl of chili. Sounds good to me but just can't imagine what the results would be mixing their chili and Votrient, would need a fire extinguisher in the bathroom. Asbestos underwear at the least.
Placed a couple of low-ball bids at Stout auctions, but I know that they won't hold up. If they do that's good if not that's good to. That's the difference between want and need.
Boy, what a shock. Between losing all this weight, about 60#, and my always low BP I am always cold, even during this relatively pleasant weather we have had for the past several weeks. Which translates into the furnace being run a whole lot more than normal, but my SDG&E bill for Dec was under $200.
Prayers for all in need.
Later all and may God bless/

Full sun and 34 degrees.
Except when necessary we stayed in during the very cold weather we had here. SOoooo off we went today for shelf restocking. All the roads are clear but my clean car now looks like a salt shaker.
Aloha. Warmer here too - low 30s feel like 60s. I am sorry for you and your missus still being sick, Roy, and for your flood clean-up, Fife. Roy, thanks for posting Blueberry's reference. The bride and I had a delicious meal out last night with friends at a steak house I couldn't afford and didn't have to pay for - the best kind of meals!

Heavy fog from the cold ground and the 28 degree air. Should hit mid 30s later so it is a slow but sure thaw.
Wife slept through the night so that was good. I almost did.
Bummer on the pipe Fife!!!!
