Aloha. Super-super-cold this morning - and I sure felt it on my walk to work though a warm-up is pending! MikeC, I look forward to the March issue! How big is the puzzle you are doing? Is it train-themed? SJ, I enjoyed watching the latest club video

Welcome back to the King of Scales, Jim!

DJ, I know what you mean - I just signed the youngest up for drivers ed and they scheduled him for class beginning at 6 am. LOL.

Good evening all,

Quiet day at work.  Did not have much to catch up on as most people took Friday off as well.  Tried to go for a walk outside at noon, but it was too brutal even for all the clothes I had on.  Worked some more on the puzzle.  I got an early edition of the March CTT for reasons you will see.  I forgot to comment on the passing of a legend yesterday as pertaining to Dan Gurney.  The man was a racer, and will be remembered also for his innovative skills.   His win in F1 as an American driver in an American chassis with an American engine will be long noted.   The likes of him will not be seen again.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening all!

Started at 20 this am, made it to about 26, and will go to 12 tonight. The record low here ever recorded is -8.

No snow or ice here in town, so we dodged it, but east of here got hit, jamming all the interstates. South of here will get bad tonight. Raining in Houston and some freeway ramps closed due to the ice.

Continuing to improve and actually got about 8 hrs last night. Sorely needed. Got a long ways to go to catch up but this is the best I have felt in over 2 weeks. Some lingering cough...hack hack...

DJ - hope Linda's interview went well.

At least I do not have to worry about snow blowers, shovels, and plows!

Stay safe and warm!

Kev – I was thinking of you plowing snow this weekend as we were shoveling snow.

Good afternoon,

Jim, Get the blade and save your back. I installed a free truck plow from our neighbor Brain on my loader. It works great and except for the cold I like it way better than plowing with the truck plow I got this year because you can see so much better and pile snow 8 to 10 foot high because the plow is on the end of the loader.

Here is the set up on the tractor. I also have chains for the front drive tires on the tractor and that does the trick..

Good Afternoon from snowy 15°F Southern Ohio,

The kids are off from school today.  What started as a two hour delay was extended to taking the whole day off due to the snow and bad roads.  At 5:30 am on the way into work it was just starting and by the time I got to work there was two fresh inches on top of ice.  It has been snowing all day and the county has declared a level 3 emergency road conditions so the big bosses at work here said for the night shift not to come into work until the road conditions improve.  Time will tell if I have to stay here at work or I can leave at the end of the shift at 7:00 pm.

A bunch of the kid’s friends came to our place to sled down the front hill.  It was great sledding Saturday and with the additional snow it is bound to be better.  I wish I was at home to sled with them.

The amount of snow we’re getting this year is an anomaly.  It is like the snows when I was a kid.  I’m thinking of getting a blade for the tractor to scrape the snow off the drive.  Doing it by hand takes the boys and I about 5 hours as the whole drive is about long and the hill pretty steep for about 100 yards.  We would have about $900 in the blade, weights and chains.   Bride says buy it but I am reluctant.

Jim – Welcome back to the pot and to trains.

Spanky – What ages are they at?  The girls (15 & 14) have settled down height wise and swimming has really toned them up.  Gabriel has slowed but just turning 15 he is at 5’10” and a solid 190 and always hungry!

All who have had the crud – sounds like symptoms are calming down

Kev – I was thinking of you plowing snow this weekend as we were shoveling snow.

 Joe – Safe travels home

Fife – how is the water damage repairs going?

Need to go check on the guys, May God bless

 Jim

Overcast with a high of 20. Our monthly club meet on Saturday eve  went well and Sunday's large train show was good although it appeared that attendance was down.

Hello there,

been slacking last couple o days.

Thankfully Friday's rumbling and gas was done by bedtime. Saturday was spent sleeping really late and chauffeuring Mrs and some coworkers to and from the 1st birthday party of her teacher's son.

Killed some time at the only train store in the area. Sometimes he has vintage stuff at reasonable prices. None this time but I did get some Athearn horns to replace some I have missing.

Mrs was off today and we spent yesterday and today doing some cleanout.

Gonna crash soon. Later.

Prayers for those in need.

Evening all!

Nice day earlier. 50's. Pundits keep saying we will get some snowhizo tonight but nothing so far. Will be worse to the south. Houston has already announced their schools will close tomorrow! Temps plummeting - biting cold. Will not go above freezing tomorrow. Ugh.

First day I felt well enough to get off the couch. With the nice weather I finally (it had been sitting for over 2 years) installed some new weatherstripping around my garage door. Worked better than I hoped. Seals the sides and top when closed. There is already a rubber strip on the bottom (double steel insulated door).

Then I moved back to my office files cleanup. Emptied another file drawer of paper. All needs to be shredded.

At last some progress on a couple of things after 2 weeks of doing nothing.

Ray - good news finally! Angel

Kev - glad to hear you guys are doing better. That was a big smile on the grandsons face at the beginning of the video. Layout looks good!

Chief - hope you avoid the crud!

Jim - Welcome!

DJ - down here WD40 works to keep locks from freezing. It also helps to unfreeze one.

Good evening all,

First of all, a warm welcome to Jim.  Always good to have more Hoosiers here.  Cold today.  Had oil changed on Grand Caravan.  Grandkids were here and they had a good time.  Worked on the puzzle some more.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hey, did anyone mention that it's cold outside?

Yes!!!!!,,and 5.5" to 6" of fresh white stuff to go with it when I got up. Tongue Tied

Plowed everyone's drives and the lane with the John Deere when I got up because temps are to fall to single digits through the day.

Morning.  Was cold out but warming.  Mayors' meeting tonight.  Strange.  Never change it for MLK day.

Speaking of crud.  Had lunch with the "gang" yesterday.  All including Grandkids have had a version of it.  Think I will go to Walgreens [contracted with VA] and get my second flu shot as its free.

Prayers for Ray and sister.

Joe, safe trip back to USA.

All stay warm and safe.

Guten morgen,

Today is our last full day in Germany. I have a few more office tasks to finish and then we have dinner plans with some friends. We need to repack our suitcases sometime today as well and prep some items for a post office shipment tomorrow.

SP Ray - I am glad you received a positive update.

Mike C. - Nice work.

Good morning all,

Wife and I stayed up working on the jig saw puzzle.  Made some progress but still slow going.  Did 9 miles in 2:27 for 3.69 MPH average.   Was hoping to do more, but still plenty of time to work up to 13.1.  Still cold here.  Have Monday off.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good evening all, my sister came through the surgery OK and is resting comfortably in the hospital in N.C.  I made it to church this morning for the first time in two weeks and spent some time with my oldest son after mass.  Cough is still with me but not all the time.  Have a good week all,

Ray

Hi guys,

 Been an interesting few days.

Wife is doing way better but still hacking crud up. I am way better and hope the rest of you are as well.

The little guy showed up yesterday for some Grandpa time and went right to work on devastation on the layout. So, Jordan had recreated the train wreck they had in Washington state. Just turn on all the spurs and every other switch at once and push the throttles to full speed ahead. What a mess!!! It had to be the better stuff and at the back wall where I could not reach anything to fix it.

This afternoon before Jordan left, Brian from down the lane stopped buy and we over drank. Katie, picked up Jordan just now but not after he rode his BMX bike till his back side was frozen off.

Best run!

Evening all!

50 here but it feels colder for some reason. Near freezing tonight. Some are predicting snowhizo for tomorrow afternoon! What?

We had purchased tics around Christmas for a play this afternoon. So we pulled ourselves together and made it out. Glad we did. Tired though. Kids joined us, so that was good.

Feeling better today so that is good also.

Morning all!

I still have a few sniffles, but I'm much better than a week ago. ( The Glenlivet works quite well, Spank!) I hope the rest of you are starting to feel better soon.

We had another wicked storm here Friday. I was out of town for work and ended up getting stranded there Friday night.

Not much on the go today. Probably just church, some domestic duties and football. I knew it was a long shot for Tennessee to beat New England, but I was hoping to knock my wife off of her Patriots pedestal! Man, Dick LeBeau looks good for 80!!

Ray - Prayers for your sister.

Don - Wow. California can't get a break.

Joe - All the best on the big move!

Have a good one.

Guten morgen,

Only two more wake ups left in Germany. I need to go into my office for a few hours today and consolidate some email and electronic files, but other than that it should be another easy day. We have so much food we need to eat before we leave; I hate to throw it away. I might get to watch a NCAA basketball game or NHL game this evening.

Ray - I am glad your sister in comfortable and surrounded by family.

I'm burning the midnight oil again tonight.  Took all my meds but don't feel sleepy yet.  I went out for a hamburger this afternoon for the first time in two weeks.  Might try going to church tomorrow if I feel up to it.  Roy, it sounds like you and I are in the same boat.  At least we are getting Spring weather for the next few days.  In the eighties today.  Update on my sister in N.C.. is that she has a broken femor in one leg.  She did not fall or get hurt.  Doctor says her bones are so fragile from cancer that she could break something just with a sneeze.  They are going to surgery Sunday morning and will install a metal rod to support her better.  She is surrounded by her family and they were eating cookies in a photo I got on facebook.  She is comfortable now and getting good care.

Good Evening,

Have had a good day, spent time in the train room working on details.  Can't get over the weather today, we had 84 deg!   And would you believe that not so smart kid of mine thought it would be better in NYC this weekend, than in So Cal??  So he and his gf flew out last night and return Sun night.  Oh to be young.

The bad news is they found another person in the mudslide, brings the total killed  to 19.  Unfortunately I dont thing that will be the last, still 5 more missing.  I believe the mudslide claimed more houses than the fires did.  The Thomas fire has been reported finally as being "out".  The 101 Fwy is still closed, and I doubt it will be open before the end of the week.

Ray, Sure hope things start getting better for you real soon.

Fife, Glad your getting the broken pipe fiasco under control.

Hope all you guys get to feeling better soon.  Fortunately we haven't had much of it out here.  Hope it stays that way.

Mike C, I too really liked the Money ...... movie.  It was great.

Take Care ALL, and get well soon!

Good evening all,

Watched Tottenham whip up on Everton 4-0 today.  Went to Mass, speaker system was out.  People have forgotten how to speak with out microphones.  Worked on jigsaw puzzle again.  Still cold.  SP Ray, thoughts and prayers for you and your family.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening all!

Cold. Started in high 20's this am - made it to 44

A bit better again today. Lingering cough. Just tired from 12 days of little sleep. Slept better last night - only woke up coughing 3 times.

Ray - we were "lucky" as we "only" had bronchitis and not the flu. Miserable but not as miserable as flu. Like you we have not been out except for doc and groceries for 2 weeks.

We finally decided to go out for some quick seafood tonight, and came immediately home after. Wore us out!

Mustered the energy to help with some housework. I vacuumed the house. Had not been done since the Fri before Christmas when my sister came. We were too sick the last 2 weeks to mess with it.

Anj - hope you hang in there. I always hated traveling and being sick.

Joe - the countdown is on!

DJ - around here one has to go to an RV place to refill a propane tank.

MikeC - thanks for the feedback on "Darkest Hour."!

Good morning all, actually it's 2:25PM but it's morning to me.  I have gotten into the bad habit of staying up late and consequently getting up late.  Cough is still with me but only now and then.  Beautiful day out with sun.  Same for the coming week.  Might try to go out for a hamburger or something for lunch.  Haven't eaten out for two week due to flu. Hope all are doing well and taking care of what ails you.  Paper says a lot of flu going around this year.  Hope to be well enough to go to TCA meet this month.  Went to Christmas meet but had to leave early.  Sister in N.C. is scheduled for surgery tomorrow to repair broken bones caused by cancer.  She is tough but she is fighting a losing battle I fear.  Still have to undecorate my artificial tree and put away ornaments.  Son will take down the tree next week when he comes.  I don't mind having it up late.  It's not bothering anything.  Have a nice weekend all.
