Good evening all,

Quiet day at work.  Good weather for walk.  Big meeting away from office tomorrow.  Ugh.  Quiet night at home.  Did get Encore back.  Looks nice.  Hope we can keep it that way.  Grandkids start their ALL American sport tourney this Friday.  One team has a shot at winning title.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' boys.  Sunny and 45 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  I've clocked in every day in October...  One of my jobs is to see that the RR is compliant with EPA (been working at this for 4 months).  Met with permit inspector yesterday, and he was happy with our progress.  Back on train today.

Had "family" dinner last night at nearby steakhouse, with Wifey, Lexi, Jamie and her fiance'.  He popped the question Sunday.  She is so happy, and we are so happy with him.

Good to have my queen back in her castle, as she returned Tuesday after a wedding in New Hampster, and a visit with oldest Princess.

cnw1995 - I heard something about the game...  I have shut out the NFL from my entertainment attention.  Haven't missed it at all.

Afternoon all from beautiful sunny 74°F Southern Ohio,

The mornings are in the mid 40’s then it starts to warm up.  I was in HazMat Refresher Training at work today.  The temperatures made it comfortable to walk around and simulate responding to a chemical spill in Level A suits and SCBA.

The grandchild that passed the stones went back to school today.  She was feeling a lot better last night and was off the pain meds.  Her aunt has a similar condition that makes them prone to kidney stones.

Due to the big highway bypass project the concrete for the garage apron cannot be delivered until this coming Tuesday.  Oh well, hopefully I’ll get the power cables through the conduit this weekend.

Brent – I had a similar situation in our previous home.  Figure your budget then make the garage as large as you can afford / have space for.  I ought to get some pictures and post them.

Kev – Going to start working the leaves this weekend.  A lot of the leaves are still on so it will be an ongoing job for a few weeks.

Banks – Your fix is the right way to do it.  I’ve got a 7 pin on the truck and have adapters to go from 7 to 4 flat.

Got to go,

May God bless

Jim

Guten abend,

How about them Yankees!!!  Today was the last sunny, dry day for a while. It looks like rain and clouds the next few days so I stored all the outside cushions. It was busy at work and then plenty of errands upon returning home. I did grill some steak and burgers for dinner so life is quite good. This evening, we purchased airline tickets for the father-in-law. He will arrive in 10 days and stay until early January.  The mother-in-law will arrive shortly after Thanksgiving.  The kids will enjoy having him around.  It is time for one more glass of wine and then bed.

Fife - I am glad you are enjoying the new adventure.  I am right there with you regarding the NFL.

Good night,

Joe

Hi All!

It's been a few days. I've been busy at work and still trying to deal with Aaron Rodgers injury. (You're welcome, Doug!) Hopefully my Packers will at least be in the games with Hundley. I just hope they don't sign you know who.

My son is trying his hand as a football referee this fall. He was working one of the high school games the other day and was getting it for missing a bad chop block. I told him you'll need thick skin for that job!! Big Smile

Joe/Brent- I hope PSU will go easy on my Wolverines this Saturday!

Kev- Thanks for the update. The closest I had to your problem was one of my diesels would barely move in reverse, but was fine going forward. Turned out the motor shaft somehow got a slight bend in it and it was binding the gears when it spun in reverse. Maybe check to see if there's any wobble with the shaft. (For some reason Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town is playing in my mind as I type this.... Laugh )

Jim - Glad your girl is feeling better.

For my two cents regarding why there's a lack of posts, it could be a few things. For starters, there's always waaaaay more readers than posters. Look at any of the posts and it seems there's 400-500 people who look, but only a dozen ever seem to respond. I was definitely guilty of that for years. That's why I've tried to make a better effort over the last year. Secondly, even though I don't subsribe to the Other Guys Rag, I do check their forum occasionally. It looks like their forum rules are a little more liberal than here. A lot more traffic there. The manufacturers/dealers are allowed to post real time updates. For example, it seems Mark from Menards is on there all of the time. It's been months since he has been on the CTT forum. They seem to allow forum members to buy and sell. It sounds like pictures are way easier post. Who knows.....

I hope the guys are having fun at York. One of these days!!!

Have a good one.

Rob

Good Afternoon all,

Thanks for the compliments on the catenary.  I've slacked off on the layout for a bit and been back at the work bench.  Adding ERR to an MTH GG1 while trying to retain the original lighting circuitry at each end.

Dr. appointment went good today.  BP, colesterol and sugars all normal, so the diabetes meds are working.  I sometimes cheat on the diet but my eating habits have vastly improved....no more one giant meal a day.

Gorgeous weather for mid October.  It's the complete darkness at 7 pm that's foreboding. If the wind dies down tomorrow I might splash some paint on a few lingering projects delayed by the damp days.

Nice buck, Chief.  Such scenes always remind me of childhood, when fall meant vennison dinners at the neighbors who hunted.  Bear and Moose often showed up on the table too.

Time for the news, then back to work!

Till later.

Evening all!

A great first day at York, particularly the weather. Big crowd for a Thursday. Expect bigger tomorrow as all the NYC area folks will drive down for the day to avoid hotel expense. We'll see.

Met up with JEFelectric, Banks, and Mitch(!). Mitch is fully retired from the school district and lovin it! JEF, Banks, and I meandered around. I scored a pair of nice O-22 switches and a 6066T tender for a friend. Sold my MTH SF Northern. Have a line on a buyer for the Century Club M10000 & Pennsy Sharknoses.

Later!

Went to granddaughters soccer game at a new location a while back. Was disappointed by the fact that you could clearly see the outline of a little league infield in the grass.

Ready to head east to sow food plots and hunt this afternoon.

Addition work is moving on now.  Worked with contractor for two days removing old flooring in kitchen and breakfast room.  Guys to put down new hardwooods to match addition.  Due this AM.

Brent,

I haven't been able to login from my tablet because I kept getting a runtime error.  I was able to get in using my desktop, but this software is horrendous.  Been busy with life stuff.

Good afternoon,

Took the 4 year old grand-son kido for a Gator ride to watch one of the neighbors combine beans and he let Jordan ride along while he finished up the field. Jordan loved it. Ended up the neighbor was from my home town Plainfield and two years younger than me. Small world.

Sun and 70s but the clock is ticking.

Got some pic's of locals at York makes me wish I was there but once a year is enough. Esp. at  room rates. We prefer the nicer places as compared to burning your clothes before you go home. The city claims their rooms don't have bugs but who can you really trust these days.

S.J.

Edit just thought I'd add I feel that way whenever we travel. Not fancy but nice enough to at least feel clean.

Still more to rearrange and still finding more stuff than I remembered...and then I'll figure out to keep or sell.

Guten abend,

Our weather returned to normal for Germany this time of year. Today's high was still around 60, but it was rainy and dreary. I had a mostly productive day at the office and then the wife and I ate out (Asian) after we brought the princess to ballet. I returned later for her and then I took the boys to the store to buy them shoes and hockey sticks. We are home now and I am tired.  Tomorrow will be hectic as the older son has a soccer game and then he and the princess and their dates will attend the homecoming dance at the high school.

Rob - I am nervous about tomorrow's game, but happy it is in Happy Valley.

Kev - That is pretty neat; definitely a small world.

SJ - Our hote standards are high as well.  Unfortunately, those bugs can show up anywhere, but usually the better hotels are much safer choices.

Good night,

Joe

Evening all!

Another great day at York. Warming up and tomorrow will be even better.

JEF, Banks, Mrs Banks, and I did see LAZ today. Thumbs Up

Achieved my goal of all the parts from MTH, Hennings, and others for supporting the coming year of repairs. No bites yet on my CC II stuff. Waiting on a possible offer still.

SJ - at least the bedbugs here have their own towels...

Ah - Astros came back strong tonight Thumbs Up

Good evening all,

Very quiet day at work.  Granddaughter had a goal free quarter in the net, but the other three quarters did not go as well and they lost 4-0.  However, grandson's team will be playing at 2 PM Saturday for the championship as they won 6-1 tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Why not buy one of those above ground spaces in a masoleum.  That would be cheaper than building your own.

Roy, I did enjoy that train trip very much thanks to my two sons being with me and making things easy for me to get to the station and back home again.  It was my first outing since my wife passed away back in February.  Just what the doctor ordered.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny and 47 in the Potomac Highlands.  The youngest princess is getting ready for her first official day on the RR, joining the ranks of the working class.  She will be serving at the snackbar.

There are 4 of us at the WMSR walking around with boo-boo lips because we aren't a YORK.  SPRING, for sure!  Good to see those that could make it having a good time.  I miss everyone.

anjdevil - No need to rent a hotel room sir.  We have a guest bed.

Good evening all,

Well, soocer season is over as far as watching in person.  Grandson's team lost 2-0 as the other team scored at the very end of each half.  Managed to score some shoes for 2018 Mini.  Went to Mass and then to Arby's for supper.  Weather was nice today.  Will mow tomorrow before cranking up the TV for the "sounds of Formula 1".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Late night all!

Back home from York. Had a great time. Sold all my stuff I took. Had to take a bit less than I hoped but time for someone else to own it.

Storms on the way as I type this.

Ray - that's great!

Dennis - those deep cleanings are rough. I had it as a result of a dental hygenist not cleaning properly for a couple of years. Now I tell them to make sure they clean below the gum line every time. Like you I do not want to repeat that!

Fife - man we missed ya! Brent and the Detroit & Jersey gang too! .

Guten morgen,

Yesterday turned in to a busy day and I ran out of time to post.  I took care of the usual Saturday morning house chores and then went to the older son's soccer game.  They lost 8-0; they need to work on passing and teamwork.  Then I drove him to the high school homecoming dance; the princess went via mom.  They both had fun and arrived home around 12:30 AM.  I did not watch any games but caught up on the scores this morning.  Unfortunately, the Yankees' season has finally come to an end but they have a great future with that talent.  PSU took it to Michigan.  I hope that gives them more momentum when they travel to Ohio State next week.  The rain started yesterday and will continue off and on today.  We will attend church and relax.

Good day,

Joe

Hello there,

been a couple of pleasant days at YORK.

Met up with Roy and John Fullerton Thursday PM and walked a bit . Roy showed us a gearbox he builds to upgrade prewar loco's for continuous running.

Friday Roy, John and Mrs John kindly waited for Mrs and I to arrive at Cracker Barrel for breakfast  (I underestimated the travel time from our campground). Got together with Roy and John for lunch in the Orange Hall .

I saw more Gilbert HO than ever before. Most of it reasonably priced, but nothing I need or want .I spent a whopping  $26 on a box of Life Like  coal, 2 Plasticville structures, 10 locon's and some vintage replacement lamps.

Saturday morning was lazy. In the PM we traveled to the Lancaster outlets and began Christmas shopping. Returned last evening after Mass and dining at a Chinese Buffet.

I'm awake now only because the dogs needed to go.  After dinner we'll pack up and head west for home.

Guess we'd best get breakfast started.

Prayers for those in need

Morning all!

Another beautiful fall morning. Nothing much on the agenda today. Going to watch my Rodgers-less Packers this afternoon and see what happens..... I think I'll take advantage of this weather and smoke some ribs for supper. I hope those that went to York had a good weekend. I looked at the MTH 2018 Volume 1 catalog online. There was a few things of interest, but no must haves.

Have a good one.

Morning all.  Sunny and warm.  Had Hardees biscuits for breakfast.

Banks, that Cracker Barrel is a favorite [after you find it].  Think we ate there every morning.

Yankees. Crying

Wifey moving clothes into her new walk-in closet.  Only room finished.  Now I will have some room in old one.

Got to go to Town Hall [at 2:30] and be at reception for two Commissioners who have been on the Board since the early 80's. Also Town Manager who left. I will have to be a politician and how great they were and how much they will be missed. Self and staff will be glad they are gone.

Have a great week ahead.

Morning all!

Cooling off (mid-60's) after some big storms and a lot of rain. Nice.

Banks - great summary. I had a great time with you guys and really enjoyed the visit and time we all spent together. For everyone, let me put a little clarity to Bank's description of the voluminous, highly available Gilbert HO stuff...everytime I pointed out some HO or focused on something Banks was looking at  - the response went like this..."I already have that...". One time there was a box of items and he said "I have all of that..." Smile, Wink & Grin

The place was also thick with S gauge this fall.

Followed the ALCS game while on the flight last night - go Stro's!.

Doldrums today is the word. Light rain and falling temps till we will be deep into fall by mid-week. Nice weather had to end sometime. Frost by next weekend.
Glad York went well.
Still not sure what to do next on the sick 0-8-0 USRA. Thinking of un-hooking the smoke unit to see if it will run okay to make sure that is not the issue before I buck up for another motor.  Huh?

Kev - some of those locos use a plastic smoke unit assembly. They overheat easily and the mechanism can gall up. Try checking that it moves freely and if not take it completely out and then test the loco.

Thanks Roy, It works free and smokes great, even better now that I got to run the power up all the way to make it move. Bang Head

Priced the motor for the 0-8-0 from The Train Tender and he has a $5.00 bump on the cost I can get it from Lionel from. Sorry I am an okay guy but not that okay. I only have $50.00 in the whole engine.

So I,

Winterized the water pump on the tank Sandra uses for her flowers that sits in the back of the Gator,, weed sprayer, pressure washer, and cleaned and covered the AC compressor on the house. Put out bait packs for our little rat and mousey friends and cleaned up in general around the shop. Leaves are falling in earnest today.

Hello there,

back from York and ready to crash.

Had a bit of excitement near mile 220 on the PA turnpike. The front left tire on the camper blew. Thankfully it was one of the newly widened sections with 3 lanes and a wide berm. Most of the traffic moved to the center lane to give us clearance while changing the tire. I'll be buying 4 new tires before the next trip.

Roy......I've been collecting Gilbert HO since the early 80s. It was only produced from 55 to 63. There isn't a huge variety like Lionel. There was prewar but it was a really small number. I do have a few pieces that I got really cheap. Originally my goal was all the 3 digit pieces. (55-57) which I have. Basically I have all the easy stuff and I'm to cheap to buy the hard stuff unless I get a great bargain. The last few years I've been buying Tyco/Mantua, Revell etc. From the early 60s. Been planning a layout that could be under an early 60s Christmas tree. Recently decided to include a loop of O Guage for dad's prewar stuff.

Dozing off here.

Prayers for those in need
