8:00am just got out of bed. Did not sleep well at all. Foot feels like it has a ten pound boot on it, but the foot is getting better, not near a swollen today but still hot to the touch.  Maybe just grocery shopping today since we are not going to leave. Sad

Got it Roy!

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 64 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Gonna be a bachelor man for 3 days, as gals are all leaving for Baltimore for family gathering and doctor/dentist appts.

Grandson really liked his train ride, especially getting to ride the turntable with GP30 #501.  He kinda hung close to me last night when I got home.

The shop crew is repainting our stainless steel cars in the WESTERN MARYLAND red-white-black speedlettering scheme.  So far they've turned out the Cumberland, Mountain View, and Frostburg.  They look marvelous.

Can't seem to find my BBQ invite; best go check the box again...

Penny,

What happened was my family went to visit the USS Iowa last weekend.  During our tour it was pointed out that the Iowa is the only ship in the US Navy that had a bathtub on board.  As mentioned above it was installed in anticipation of President Roosevelt accepting the surrender from Japan.  Obviously that did not happen, and the surrender was done aboard the Missouri instead of the Iowa.  (From what I understand the Missouri was used in tribute to the fallen President as it was the namesake for his home state.)

On our way home my son says, "Hey Dad, do you realize that even  though the ship sank over a 100 years ago, there is STILL water in the swimming pool !"

So I posted both of the statements and the comments ensued.  Ironically I'm not sure everyone realized the Titanic statement started was a silly joke.  "Now you know the rest of the story."

Ray, sorry to hear your not going to the picnic, we are not going to make it either, some good friends are moving to Reno, and there coming over for a BBQ.

Take care all and Stay Healthy.

Good evening all,

Would have been a great day seeing the 2 foot railroad except for going 6 miles in 1.5 hours on the return trip.  One of these days we will have a trip with no drama.  The really sad part was seeing the backup on I-95 North with no apparent cause except for the massive amount of traffic.   I could not live in such a high population area.   Ugh.  Weather still good.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

I know Truman did actual signing ( did some research) but do know one had a tub for somebody ( ie president ) Just found out why it was done

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When Iowa was selected to ferry President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the Cairo and Tehran Conferences, she was outfitted with a bathtub for Roosevelt's convenience. Roosevelt, who had been paralyzed in 1921, would have been unable to make effective use of a shower facility.

He actually died 5 months before the signing

Don, belated happy birthday to you.  I haven't been on the Iowa yet.  I'm still trying to get over swollen feet and ankles I think caused by side effects of BP Meds.  Went to doc yesterday.  He sent my for a complete blood test yesterday and a scan of my legs today to rule out blood clots.  I can barely get an old pair of tennis shoes on.  Had to cancel the TTOS picnic tomorrow because I can'nt walk far or stand long.  I'm also on anti biotics.  Have a good week end.

Banks
interesting fact about the Titanic pool.

I'm sure I missed something (because that's completely normal for me Laugh) but yes, the Titanic did have a pool:

It wasn't like you might think however.  It was actually part of the Turkish Baths and not open to passengers otherwise.  It was filled with heated salt water and the idea was you were supposed to wash off the sweat you just created after sitting in a small box lined with hot light bulbs.  It's actual title was "Swimming Bath" on the plans and diagrams.  Ironicly because the room was watertight in it's own right, it was one of the last compartments on the ship to flood.

Trains, trains, wonderful trains.  The more you get, the more you toot!  Big Smile

I got my card early because I was already drawing my SS Roy. I did not go with the Medicare advantage plan, they cover all three needs but can restrict where you go. I went with BCBS plan F, Humana Walmart for plan D Meds, MetLife for dental, and VPS for vision. It seemed to work for us and will let us go any place we want and not worry about coverage.

At least they took care of the sting. Laugh

Hi Kev,

Get well soon! Keep that leg elevated. Last time I got stung in the ankle it was a swarm of bumblebees came out of the ground where I was weed wacking. OW!

I can't sign for any plans until I get my card. So waiting for that.

Taking your advice and looking at Part D with an entity (I.e. CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, etc.) that has nationwide presence (or at least as many places as we tend to travel) since we travel a bit. We have an insurance friend my wife has done work for many years (CPA) that is going to help on the Medicare advantage (as it is called here). So in October I should be all set (fingers crossed).

Been a while,

Hi guys,
Only 59 here and won't get to 70 today, back to long pants
Rough week for us this week, We were to go up north yesterday but Murphy's law took over. Thought I would get some stuff done before we left and Wow I got stung by something wicked when I was cutting the grass, right in the left foot ankle. How do you spell elephantiasis? So I figured it would get better over time and well NOT! Wednesday, It was worse and I stopped in at the Dr. office to see if they could look at it. So I also did all the paperwork to fire up my Medicare that went into effect on the 1st and the nurse told me she would talk to the doctor and let me know what they thought. So Thursday comes and I get a call from the Dr. office and they want to see me at 9:00AM after she looked at the picture of my leg. So back to the doctors in the morning morning and go figure the leg is infected so off we go to get meds. They said I have Cellulitis of the lower left leg caused by the sting. So they marked off the infected area with a marker and if it grows I have to go back on Monday or sooner. They have me wearing a compression sock to push the fluids up my leg away from the wound. Trip is off for at least two more days while we see what happens.

Then Thursday night Wife went to run a tub and only got rust and air.

After looking the pressure gauge, said there was 60 psi in the tank and there was nothing. WTH ??? Well pump??? Pressure switch??? Or what. Decided that this wonderful rust water had maybe plugged the pressure switch and would not turn on the well pump. So I took the power down pulled the switch off the gauge went to 0 so I got a screwdriver and knocked the plugged up stuff out of the pressure feed tube. Bingo! Wonder what that would of cost me if I had to call someone to do it???

That gets us to today: Got some sleep last night and the swelling is down a little bit. So at least it is not getting worse. Then Tom calls and tells me his wife's car took a dump and she don't know what is wrong with it yet so she is stuck in Plainfield. Sandra would not like to spend time with just Tom and me and to top that off it won't hit the 70s up there for the next week. Can't enjoy the lake with it cold out. Besides I would like to heal up as well.

So much for the trip. Bang Head

Roy, what plan did you go with?

Chief, Glad you got it right away.

Morning all!

Partly sunny and temps holding below normal. And now there is rain in the forecast (starting Mon) for the next week! That's different?

Chief - ouch, glad they caught that blood thing early Angel

Brent - interesting about the theft of remote island properties. I wondered about that.

8n - good to hear from you. I turn 65 in Oct, maybe I need to get some horseshoes?

Morning all.  Going to be hot and humid today.  Not as hot as a couple weeks ago.  Tomorrow humidity low.

Construction going good.  Found out I was right about HVAC.  Kept telling contractor that one we had was OK.  He said HVAC man said we needed to add a little one for the rooms.  Seems they rechecked yesterday while I as getting hand cut on.  Is adequate.  Money saved.

Some not so good news.  Seems Rheumatologist did some unusual blood tests.  Found I have a very rare blood disease.  Don't know what causes it.  Start chemo tablets tomorrow evening.  Will probably take for two years.  Seems we caught it before it did damages.  She thinks this will work.

Have a good one.

Afternoon all.

Surgical consult went well yesterday, scheduled for 9/5. Wish it were sooner but no luck there. If anyone tells you that a hernia is nothing they are full of meadow muffins.

Lionroar, Ours is closing in on 50, but she is still my baby girl. Be careful during the Turks & Cacos vacation. What used to be a pretty much crime free area has seen a rather large increase in armed robbery at some of the hi$ beach home rental areas.

Rich, Ever miss the festivities of bike week at Daytona ? Not to mention some of the eye-candy, motorcycle speaking of course. Wink

Going stir crazy here at home, need to get back to the museum. But it is still a nono, looking into a truss that might alleviate some of the hazard but allow me to go on a limited basis.

Later all.

Doug - We are staying on The Beaches resort. No way I would ever rent someone's home on an island. Those have always had crime (we are just now starting to hear more about it in the US Media). A guy I used to work with owns a beach house in Costa Rica, he told me the first couple years people would break in an gut the home. Then he took some drastic measures and built a wall around the property and had a automated gate installed, built keepers houses for the security guard, maid, and groundsman. He now has to rent the house out when he is not there to pay the employee's salaries (which are much higher than the local average so they have a vested interest in keeping the property secure and intact).

TheQ and I discussed buying a home on Antigua when we were there for our honeymoon, there were a bunch of unfinished homes due to a huricane having hit the island years in the past. They were going for pennies on the dollar. When we talked to our island guide he related much of the above as to why people don't do it (and why those who have on the island still live a very, very, very meager lifestyle). This is also why many islanders attend butler school and get jobs working are butlers on the resorts (if they get really good, the wealthy from other countries come and stay, and often hire them to come back to their estates and work for them). We love going to the islands and talking with the locals, you learn so much about their culture and way of life... but we don't venture off the resort at night. We also will never return to Jamaica as we got ripped off during our shopping excursion - we think the driver had a kick-back scheme going with the shop owners he took us to.

Mornin' boys.  I'm in a fog.  No, really, it's foggy on Knobley right now.  Grandson getting his "big train" ride today.

Roy - the yatchett is on the hard.  Bothers me, but no time to go sailing.  Wifey would rather rent a speed boat up at Deep Creek these days.  October is our bussiest time at WMSR, so maybe YORK in the spring.

88 - Hershey was always a fun trip for the kids, and the drive wasn't a killer.

Been a while - guess my last post was in late June.  Since then, we spent a week at our Michigan house.

My nephew and his family came up on July 4th.  Had fun with our grand nephew - he is 3.  We cooked both lunch and dinner outside in the fire circle.  He asked why we don't cook inside.  Also took him for a short canoe ride too.  He was not too sure to begin with, but he did relax and enjoyed the ride.

Got the horse shoe pits installed again up north.  My wife's cousin was helping me.  When we got them finished, we had to see if they worked.  Keep in mind, he is 70 and I am 61. Neither one of us has thrown shoes for at least 10 years.  We were pitching the shoes back and forth for about 20 minutes - the score would have been something like 6 to 2 if we were keeping it - when we realized that horse shoes were pretty good 'old guy' exercise.  All that walking and bending.  We finally decides we'd quit when one of us got a ringer.  I finally rolled one on the stake probably 15 minutes later.

Not much going on the train front.  Been doing house chores and hiding from the heat.

All for now.

Evening all!

Had a busy couple of days. Weather is holding as predicted. Nice!

Mike C - sounds like fun. I don't know how the 2 ft ga trains don't tip off the tracks.

Banks - glad you are feeling better!

Fife - no York again? And have you abandoned the yatchet for steel wheels and rails?

Dougnotta - "hang" in there!

Dennis - last time I shot (let's say attempted) some skeet a couple of years ago was UGLY. I can't see well enough to aim/sight in anymore.

Brent - good to hear from you. That's great about Christina's 6th! Only ten years til 16!

Chief - when ya gonna tell Pam what that room is really for?

Afternoon fellas

Been very busy, and kinda forgot to stop by.

Christina turned 6 on Tuesday! Yes, 6! My little girl is growing up much too fast for Daddy's comfort. Still get my daily hug and kiss (which makes everything worthwhile). Took the family to Hersheypark last Friday, wasn't busy (think due to afternoon storm threat). TheQ wants to take them again next year and stay in either Hotel Hershey or Hershey Lodge and do two days (they have a shuttle that allows you to come and go to the park, so thought is to go in the AM, then come back at lunch and rest, then go back later for the evening)... we'll see as we have a big vaca scheduled to Turks & Caicos at Beaches.

Haven't received my York packet yet. Hope to make it this October if TheQ is back from Germany.

Sun and warm.

Tired, just returned from a trip in northern Michigan. Did a little casino playing, yeah they lightend my wallet some but just a little. We only allow a preset amount of loss.

Morning.  Heating up.  Weedeating to do.  Then go get a spot dug out of hand.  Dinner with hunting partner and his wife tonight.

Fifey, I have said terroist can do that and we never know.  Usually big fire and evidence destroyed.

Construction going on. Electrical service moved. Roughed plumbing just passed inspection. Waiting for HVAC. Getting a spot removed from hand this afternoon.

Later.

Mornin' boys.  Partly sunny & 66 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Chief's least favorite railroad had a major derailment in Hyndman, PA.  The whole town was evacuated due to hazmat cars on fire.  This is 22 miles north of new Fifedom. I will be telling our ridership to stay out of Wills Creek this week.

Took the family up to Deep Creek Lake yesterday.  Kids had good time paddle boarding and kayaking.  Working today, so not sure what the kids want to do when I get home.

Banks

Hello there,

this morning  spent 5 hours with mom in the ER. Nothing found. Was told its part of aging.Pretty skeptical of that.

Now on the way back from Pittsburgh. Docs sent Mrs for a CT of the heart. Something new that predicts blockages better than a stress test. Feels funny to be riding shotgun.

Had followup with ortho doc yesterday. Repaired one big tear and one small one. Also removed 3 bone spurs. Should feel much better when healed. Feels way better than last week. Said I can drive when I feel up to it as long as no opioid pain meds. Non of them since Saturday. Gonna give it till Monday.

Don...belated birthday wishes.

Phish.....congas on the crossover panel . I've gotten some good ebay bargains in the summer.

Fife......sounds like a good time with the clan.

.RT......interesting fact about the Titanic pool.

Got the York meet notice in today's mail. Been watching the mail for the latest CTT since someone said they got theirs. Found it today in a pile of stuff in the kitchen. Must've came last week when I wasn't with it.

enuf for now

Prayers for those in need
