Evenin' boys. Overcast and 60, calling for frost overnight, in the Potomac Highlands. Brought in the palm tree. The shop storeroom has been my domain this week. Hello all
Back at work for another week. We are doing Very Long Baseline Interferometry again where we tie in w/ other telescopes around the world. Got several visiting astronomer on site w/ us.
Normally I try not to c&p from another forum, but it's late (or early) and it will be a 21 hour day before I get to find a pillow:
Put the fan clutch/water pump on the Datsun last time I was off. Clutch was different and original fan didn't fit. Took a guess on one from O'Reillys but it was too deep. Went back to the place I got the pump/clutch from yesterday and found out they sold me one for a truck w/ A/C. Guess they thought everyone has ac in AZ:) They exchanged it even though I had installed it on the engine. Didn't get time to put the new one on. Nicer when you don't have to deal w/ coolant:)And today, just after I left, Gene and our intern Gabe managed to get the steering column apart from Twin Coach #113. We've have been puzzling over this one for a while now. Took it over to my friend Bill and he and Gabe drilled holes in the metal under the horn button and tapped them. My harmonic balancer puller wouldn't budge it w/o feeling like we were going to strip the tapped threads. They took it over to Skip and Chuck, the 'metal-to-metal' boys in the streetcar division (my old haunt). I figured if they couldn't do it, it couldn't be done. With the tapped holes, appropriate length grade 8 bolts, and tapping on the puller w/ each turn, the wheel finally came off. And they even managed to start taking the column out. These things are crazy weird, w/ 3 u-joints and curve almost 90 degrees. Very cool and art deco, but only made for a few years and are now unobtainium. We have only one used spare (and 2 buses in the collection that have these) and so decided to use this one as 'training' on how to work on them since it spent some time submerged in the San Pedro River when the bus was in a flood when it was used as storage. We were hoping it could be fixed so we could save the spare and install the original part back in the bus. Very exciting.Got the Bowser trolley from the pakmail place today and didn't have time to open the box before I had to head to work. Brought it with me.
Opened up the box tonight and it is in great shape. One of the screws holding the sideframe to the electrical pickup truck is loose and will have to be fixed before I can run it. I think I can just put in a longer screw w/ a nut on the inside. All metal tinplate and I really like this paint scheme. Looks pretty close to our Phoenix car #44 (when it was still in service) except for not having a clerestory roof (the model is a 2-truck Birney).

Good evening all,
Brent, there are two things to remember regarding soccer and girls. One is that the most beautiful ladies in the world play soccer and two is that the most important women in the world are soccer moms. As long as you understand those two rules, every thing else will fall into place. Busy day at work. Perhaps most of the issues from Tuesday have resolved themselves. In any event, it does not matter as I am off the next two days. Lots of wet weather in the Hoosier land is existing in both liquid and solid form (some hail). I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana

Been a busy day but informative one. Had a visit with my cardiologist and it looks ok for the forseeable future. When things aren't great I wonder if they go in pairs. Stage 3 CHF and stage 3 CKD, hopefully if it's a race between the heart and the kidney that they are both really slow racers. I rewarded myself with a visit to In-N-Out Burger for lunch.
Looks like I'm going to be a bachelor for two to three weeks. The BetterHalf is going to Florida tomorrow to visit and hopefully encourage her sister. She is critically ill and it sounds as though she is essentially giving up.
Will be skipping the museum at least this Friday and possibly the next, I am babysitting the Granddoggie while the rest of her pack is getting in a bit of spring skiing.
Kev, Safe travels.
Banks, Prayers for your Mom.
Gettin' tired, time to call it a nite.

Evening all,
Very cool here. Made a fire in the fireplace. Probably last one for this season. Seasonal temps for next week. 70's and a couple of low 80's on tap and a bit of rain.
Banks - more prayers for your mom. Glad she is out. The Oliver is cool! Hope we do get to see you at York.
Speaking of York - arrangements are in place. Air and hotel. Traveling with friends so we will share a rental car. Coming in Wed morning early and head home Sun afternoon.
Kev - safe travels.
Brent - looks like your days of staying up til daughter comes home are not far away. Lost a lot of sleep....
Good evening,
Went and got some cash for the trip tomorrow. Then worked some on the layout. Starting to zero in on what I want to do. I am leaning on wrought iron black for the bents. ( A good sugestion from Fife ) Concrete color on the pillars and flat black on the platform wood. It should work well with the black FRP girder rails that will be on the sides of the platform. I also made some changes to add bents where the two tables connect and removed the supports that were tied into the sides of the tables. Helped to quiet it all down. No pictures today, maybe when I get back.
But for now, I am thinking a few beers and an early night so I can be ready for the trip to the North Woods of Wisconsin tomorrow.

Dennis!I'm getting busier and busier by the day! Christina is playing soccer now, and really enjoying it. Matthew is 'playing' t-ball - more like kicking stones, pulling weeds, playing with crickets, collecting trash, watching the clouds, and anything else he can find to do on the baseball field (lol). Last night was his first practice, so I'm hoping for better results as he participates more. Had to take Christina to the practice last night and I realized I am now the father with the distraction for the other boys, and apparently a few of the boys on Matthew's team have crushes on his sister! Time to polish the firearms! But I will say the boys she is attracting are good looking, polite, and nice. One even introduced himself with a firm handshake!Loving the sun and warm temps. Maybe I get pull the bike out tonight for a ride? Would be nice seeing that I've only ridden it once since I got it back in February!Kev - you are making some serious progress with that upper loop!
Raining and has been all night. 46 heading to 47 and rain all day.
Tomorrow at this time I will be heading north for a few days so I will be off the radar till I get back.
Very long day at work. Huge load of cases came in today along with other issues. Dennis, congrats on 74! Chief, thoughts are with you and your community. Way overdid it Monday and paid for it today. At least Izombie is on tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.
Happy Birthday Dennis!!!
74 is a great accomplishment!
Chief - may the RPD Chief rest in peace, prayers for the families.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DENNIS.....
Happy Birthday Dennis. 74 is the new 54.
48 heading to 54 and gray.
Sunny and 77 degrees. Getting ready to attend Chief's funeral. Big crowd expected. Being announced on all TV channels. Big crowd last night for visitation.Have a good one.,
Morning all!
Hmmmm...first one up today! Sunny and will get to 85 today. Possible showers and cooler tomorrow.
Spent a lot of time yesterday and day before fighting issues with my old vs new YouTube account all rooted in Google takeover issues of YouTube and my .ieee email account. Thanks Google (not). Wanted to post some video of the trainfest Sat. No dice so far.
No rest for the wicked LOL. Got caught up at work, did 3 miles on my noon walkabout, came home and mowed more of the yard. Did not do all the acreage as it is not all up yet, but got the high spots that needed attention. Hopefully tomorrow I can rest a little at both work and home. MR came today. I hope everyone has a good day.
Happy April dudes and dudettes!!
Still chugging along on the 15 hour days, its a chore but untill I find something better, it will do.
Seems like people are dying all over the place one of my friends Dad passed (94), one of my Mom and Dads friend (59!!!) and my best friends Momdied on Saturday. If we had connected, she would have been my mother in law, she was such a sweetheart. Just hit 90 a couple of months ago.I'll be off to the viewing and the funeral Thursday and Friday.I was playing with my FasTrack and got my interchange track set up, it's going to be on the main straight up front as this alone is over 7' withO-48 outer curves and O-36 inner, 2 main lines with a switched Y for 2 storage tracks, which I'll have to modify now that I have to put the interchange on the front of the layout. YES!! I'm getting antsy....need more time to insulate and wallboard then get the plywood and foam. I already have the 2X4s and 2X6's in the storage shed.
The main part with the switches will be all Fastrack and the other parts will be Atlas O since I have a lot of both. I wish I could do ALL Atlas, but I have so much money tired up in Fastrack, I can't justify selling it to switch over (pun intended). The house got a major spring cleaning yesterday threw open the windows, mopped and vacuumed, my room is getting closer to be habitable. My cat was extremely excited that I was "home" all day....just need to get used to the bed I bought. The mattress was free, but.....
OK off to job 2. Be back when I can...
Good afternoon,
Supposed to go to 85 degrees today, maybe more. Friday it is supposed to cool off several degrees and maybe some rain.
Have not done much in the train room lately. Installed a shelf in the hallway the other day. Waiting for somebody to help me install the drop down sheet of plywood for my H.O. layout in the computor room. If the sheet of plywood is put up I can do the rest as it will be a fold-down layout.
