Good Evening from 45°F Southern Ohio,

Bride and I had grilled out steaks and potatoes for Thanksgiving dinner.  Not a traditional dinner but it was really good.  We’ll have the more traditional meal on Saturday with my bride’s family.  That is always interesting.

I did get the rack for the rabbit cages built and set up.  Going to work out well.

The new dishwasher works great!

Have a blessed Thanksgiving.

May God bless

Jim

Kevin Dog is good. Wish I had one but we go out of town to often. I don't believe in tieing a dog out or penning him up all his life. I believe he/she should be part of the household.

Turkey ate as well as the Stuffing, Mash Potatoes, Flaky Biscuits, Green Beans , and gravy. Now having a few Chocolate chip cookies. We didn't get any pies this year. The clean up is done other than actually doing the Dishes and pots and pans which I will get to in a few minutes. ( Need to sit down for a few)  Big Smile

I bought a set for the wife as I said and I'm about to show her so she can see it. She was pleased. She loves her southern heritage and if I can do something that goes with it, pleases her. I found the Confederate set minus the engine and more or less stole it for the price I paid and found a engine that will go perfect with it a A. & W. R.R. 4-4-0. But I have to figure something out, with it, as supposedly it runs intermittently. not sure if it's the motor or E-Unit. I believe these came with a A/C motor vertical It's going to be more for show than anything but would like to have it runnable.

Need to get moving, I have dishes to do

sir james I

I miss the paid vacations.

I guy told me once that there was nothing better than to have Caterpillar pay him to not go to work..

We made it through the day. MIL is on the edge, BIL is not doing what she needs. Sad. She started wanting to go home as soon as they got here so it would not be dark. It was 2:00PM?

House is quiet, trains were run and the ZW got a nice warm up.  Yes

V8 wife did not want to replace the last dog who was just shy of 16 years old when I had to have her put down. She has now changed her mind.

Dennis You got it wrong about getting paid for today. We still get paid for today but we don't get extra for it. We get paid x amount every day weather we are productive or not. We get paid once a month to sit home and do nothingWhistling

Good Morning from wet 40°F Southern Ohio,

Grandkids staying with other grandparents and having dinner with the other side of the family so it is strangely quiet around here.

Rich - Good to hear from you!

Kev - A couple friends of mine have remote farms and they have rotwilers.  Intimidating but very gentle as long as owners are around.

Fife - That is a great idea about calling the station and not 911.  I will keep that in mind.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving.

May God bless

Jim

Happy Thanksgiving Just made the deviled eggs and now with the rest.

Not a lot today Just MIL who is now 83, BIL Mark, Daughter Katie,  Dan and their three kids with mom and me.

Fife,

I put the guard dog neighbor Butch on it last night and he went right into the hunt. He has a close firend on the force who also lives close by, so we had a 3 way phone call. Our county is very large, one 7th the size of NJ state and there are only about 3 to 4 officers at a time on duty so time to respond can be very slow out here in the sticks.

Found out another neighbor saw those guys and got the plate number off the truck from a daytime stop. Same weird details but with him it was steaks not sea food. Stuffed in a cooler in the back of the van with ice. At best it was hot food. This neighbor asked for a flyer and they said they did not have any.  So we will see. They are on the radar.

Banks, I had a nice old sawed off pump but it was way shorter than they allow so I turned it in. It was a 1930's something JC higgins or something. Neat pump, just pull the trigger once and pump it empty. I don't think they make them like that anymore. A Dobe is one we were thinking about along with maybe a Belgian Malinois but they are costy dogs.

Everyone enjoy your holiday!!

Mornin' b- Hey Rich!!!  Great to see you alive and well.  We're a bit south of Cumberland on 28.  She is a pretty town from a distance, just not up close.

Littlest Princess and I finished painting her bedroom yesterday.  She's happy.  Wifey not crazy about the color, nor the paint in Lexi's hair.  Next job, the garage.

KRM - Either they were looking for an opportunity, or you just nixed your chances of a discount on Alaskan king crab legs.  Please, call the front desk at your local police dept/sheriff's office.  Ask that they place the description in the ROLL CALL book.  This is read at the beginning of all 3 shifts, and does 2 things: aids in the ability to stop subjects in the future, and may lead to an interview (yes, leave your phone number) if they struck elsewhere.  EVERYONE *** This is more effective than calling 911.  The info gets to everyone at the station (doesn't get lost with the outcodes), and detectives do regularly read the ROLL CALL book during their rounds.

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Hello there.....

Happy Thanksgiving!

Being lazy here this AM, Heading to Mass soon. Come home and make brunch then complete the Turkey day Prep. The rest of the family will be here for dinner aroound 530.

Phish.......good deal on the families covering the funeral cost

Kev......... It's sad but true you need to be concerned. A big dog can be a good thing. I live on a pretty busy road. Many people don't know me but they know the little brown house with the Doberman in the yard. He sleeps in our bedroom and wouldn't hurt anything but he has a lot of respect.

I'm currently keeping an eye out for a beat up old 12ga pump. The plan is cut it right in front of the magazine and keep it in the bedroom out of the grandkids reach.

Best go get ready

Prayers for those in need

Good Thanksgiving eve all,

Don, thanks for  the Cal Stewart report.  Glad I didn't go.  The train meets we used to have are history now.  What action is left is in the East.

Took Helen to dermatologist today with just me in my own car.  It worked well and she was very calm.  Even in the doctors office with a 45 minute wait.  They removed the small growth she had on her arm and we got back to her facility just in time for lunch.  Going out to eat tomorrow with youngest son and his new wife.  We will stop in to see Helen enroute.  Glad to hear that Doug is posting again.  Some prayers have been answered.

Getting late, goodnight all,

Ray

Hey guys, long time....

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Been working at the job and the house.  Getting a part time job at another warehouse to suppliment the income for a bit.

No work on the train attic just yet, too much other stuff taking up my time and MONEY..lol!!

Going for cataract surgery in January, right eye has been bad for a while, time to get it done.

Fife, if you are in Cumberland, I'm very happy for you and very jealous!!  I went through that area in August and was very surprised how beautiful that area is.  I was on the 9/11 run and the views from the bike were spectacular!!

Off to bed, I'm awaiting more fire calls tonight and tomorrow.  Most peolple will try to burn down their homes and garages instead of roasting the turkey...lol

Hope all are well...hope to post here soon!!

Good evening all,

Good day at work.  Pain two was gone all day and pain one left at noon.  Got a lot done.  Daughter came down to stay over night.  Weather was lousy today.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Video cameras do help, let you know someomes coming. I think the safest would be a shotgun, with shells stored somewhere else up high but easy for you to grab.

With everything as it is today, you just can't know. And living in a rural area, can easily make you more nervous. Don't let your mind play with you, definitely serious, but relaxing your vigilance with the guns could create an even worse scenario. Dog probably not a bad idea.

Maybe a video camera, or security camera mounted up the lane? Even if it is just a dummy and a surveilance sign might be appropriate?

Don,

It would have to be fake, too far from the house for a transmitter to work.

The sign would need to be in another language for them to read it I bet from the looks of him.

There was at least one other in the van and it had no side windows. Could not see well at that time of the day, why it seemed so wrong. The other thing was if they were going to open a store why was the van un-marked? Maybe I need to get the 357 out. That was the other thing, the guns were locked with the trigger locks to keep them safe from the kids. Just sets you thinking about what if I was not home and it was just Sandra here? Then what?  Tongue Tied

Sturgeon-Phish

I could not either.

Kev- Get a plate #?

Dogs are a good idea, although mine are very gentle the Golden Retriever has a good bark and he only uses it if a stranger comes around

Jim

No Jim, it was to dark when they turned around and pulled out and the side of the van was all I could see from the sidewalk. I was not about to let the guy close to the house or see inside.

Jim,

I can't get the link to open,

Question,

So here we sit 1/2 mile off the road and right at dark a un-marked white van comes up to the house and a guy gets out and starts talking about a store they are going to open in Ottawa to sell seafood and ask if we cook. I told him there are a lot of signs between the road and here that say don't come down this lane so you had better leave. He said Oh and then I told him he should learn to read he said make me, I said I doubt I could. They left. Sandra thinks they were casing places looking for people not home over the holidays that they could break into. The neighbor Brain who was home said they did not stop there. He was home and his lights were on. Once you get here there is no way out but to turn around, can't drive past.   What do you guys think? Fife?

Took the bird shot out of the 999 and loaded it with hollow points.

Wife now wants a dog. May not be a bad idea.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Good Evening from cloudy 40F Southern Ohio

The funeral was really nice.  There was no family but a lot of the folks from the parish was there.  The lady had no money or insurance so the parishes contributed for the total cost.  The parishes are small, ~130 families in one and about 200 in the other.

Also got the dish washer in and it is working.  Praise God!

I'm going to try and paste a link to our local newspaper.  At the train show this weekend a guy has made a replica of the Sciotoville N&W bridge.  It is over 32 feet long.

Here is a picture of the real thing

May God bless

Good Morning from wet 36°F Southern Ohio,

I went and picked up the dishwasher this morning and got it unpacked.  Started reading the instructions.  Yes, I read the instructions; 40 years in the nuclear field conditions you to work in a disciplined manner.  That is one factor in the extensive training / qualifying / certification I’m going through now at work.

I have a funeral Mass at Noon so I won’t get started on the install until this afternoon.

Don - The qualifications and evaluations are not too bad.  You do need to study and practice a bit.  The advantage I have is I was an operator, then a trainer, then a supervisor in this area 12 years ago, so a lot of it is familiar.

Your cartoon is dead on.  I’ve seen how your career path heavily influences everything you do and your perspective.  In light of my job, I’d be thinking were the recipes followed, was the temperature of the food maintained to prevent spoilage, fill the gravy bowl with adequate ullage so when you put the spoon it it it won’t over flow, lower the room temperature so the cooking and additional people in the house will not start with the room too warm, with all the extra tables and chairs are there safe egress routes in the event of an emergency, and refresh myself in the heimlich maneuver.

May God bless

Jim

Mornin' boys.  Wow, everyone must be at the supermarket buying gibblets.  Sunny & 33 along the Patterson Creek cutoff.  Heard Perry Como's Christmas Dream last night (haven't heard the song in eons), so spent this morning transposing it for the ukulele.  Need to brush up on my German.  More painting today with youngest princess.  She's quite good.

Good Evening all,

Jim, Those qualifications sound rather stressful and demanding, WHEW!

Roy, That is the current plan, going to try for York in April.  So we will see.  Don't need anything, but would like to see everyone.

Speaking of needing stuff, I think things are getting a bit extreme......Chris bought an inexpensive watch last week, I think he has 3 or 4, this is a self winding one.  A package came today for him, I can't beleive it.

This watch box, WINDS the self winding watch!!  The center location rotates in arc from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock!!  There are various settings for timer control, rate of movement, and more.

Spent the day listening to tapes, working on our website. Got a lot accomplished, tomorrow help with turkey day stuff, and play in the trainroom.

A Geologists idea of Thanksgiving....

Later
