DougM, Looks like it will be a long football season. UGH!!
Slow quiet day here on the North Bluff. Leaves are falling but temps are warm.
Wifey is having retirement withdrawals. I told her it takes time to get used to and the hard part is she is stuck with me all day. It is hard to walk away from all of your friends you worked with.
Prayers for all in need, special prayers for RT.

Mornin' boys. Overcast & sticky best describes the Mid-Atlantic region today. Spent time in the new fife-room yesterday. Nicely carpeted with wall receptacles-a-plenty, which will pretty much dictate an around the wall approach. Might try to squeeze a "simple" post-war pike along one corner, but that remains to be seen. Need to cover the taupe walls with an eye pleasing blue. Lighting will be a challenge also, me-thinks.

Morning all!
Another hot one today. However it is sunny!
Fifer - that would be an eye-pleasing "sky" blue right!
RT - more good news. Continued
Have a great day all!

Good evening all,
Good day at work. Junior high team won and the boys lost 3-0 in a good effort. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Hello all
Back at work for a few days.
Was an interesting weekend. Started by firing up the Corvan to go and get the new battery and alternator for the Datsun. Corvan appeared to have a knock in the engine which sounded serious. Borrowed another guy's truck at the barn and the alternator checked out ok and I got the new battery. Spent most of the afternoon and evening trying to improve the wiring in the engine compartment of the Datsun. After much improvement the charging system still wasn't putting out much.
We did start and move successfully the '73 GM 'fishbowl' bus and the '48 Ford Transit bus.
The next day I drove the Datsun to pick up a new alternator. After a bit of running around the system appeared to be charging, even w/ the lights on. Got the new alternator anyway, but delayed installing it. Did some more work on the motorhome and pretty much got the bedroom and ac unit buttoned up. Also moved a fair bit of stuff out of the trailer.
Sunday evening the brakes on the truck felt a little low. The rear reservoir had been down a bit earlier in the week. Sunday it was empty. Left rear wheel cylinder was leaking. Ordered two new cylinders and brake shoes which came in Monday.
I took Monday off since I had an appointment w/ the podiatrist, a staff meeting for work, and Datsun rear brakes to work on. Once the brakes were fixed I moved some more stuff out of the trailer.
This morning I assembled the carburetor we had been having problems w/ on the '60 GM bus and installed it. The bus started and idled. We have been having various issues w/ this bus since we moved it to the new location. We were hoping to move it for the building dedication next week and now it looks like we can do that.
And I started the Corvan this morning to move it up a bit and it made an interesting sound and then ran smoother. I pulled up the engine lid to find a broken belt. My 'knock' may have just been the belt hitting something. Didn't have a chance to put the spare on but here's hoping Friday.
Kev & RT - glad you are feeling better.

Mornin' boys. Cloudy and 67 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Oldest princess dropped the munchkin off early this morning, so I will be running him to pre-school. He helped Fifepops deforest some of the layout, and enjoyed being able to walk on top of the layout like the jolly green giant. He filled 2 gallon freezer bags.

Good Morning from beautiful 60°F Southern Ohio,
Wow it is Wednesday already! Time is flying. We went to Cincinnati Sunday after the second Mass and met up with youngest daughter who was in from LA for Octoberfest. We went to the Cincy Zoo and the kids had a good time. The visit made for a late night as we got home about 11:30 pm. We’ve had two good practices coming off our jr high football game last Thursday. The game this Thursday should be a good game.
We dropped off the van at the mechanic to replace the water pump, timing belt, bearing and all that stuff that is layered on top of each other and when you have the parts apart you replace them. The mechanic works out of his home and does really good work and will do the same work with the same parts for $250 less, than the garage I could walk to, and the garage’s quality of work depends on which mechanic gets assigned your car.
Bob – sounds like you are really making progress on several of your projects!
Fife – When I saw the flamingos at the Zoo I thought about you! When I was doing the train room I painted all the walls a sky blue and it worked well. Then painted in clouds with white and gray. It was neat effect. Dimmable track lighting is what I’d use if I were doing it now.
Brent – There is a self-adhesive, rubberized aluminum flashing that does a really good job around the doors and windows. I’ve got it at Lowes but I’d say all the box stores will have it.
RT – I am glad your recovery is going well. You and your caregivers are in my prayers.
May God bless
Jim

Phish - I've been staring at baby blue skies over a field of white for a decade now. Want a darker, more vibrant blue (like on a clear Fujichrome pic) that will be behind verdant green mountain foliage. Also have to account for the room having no natural light, so may have to go a few shades lighter than what the naked eye sees.
88 - I will miss the lighting I have now. There are two ceiling fixtures in place, so I would have to work from there.
Good morning, Dark and thunder in the near distance. No one said anything about that yesterday. SS payday so off to Krogers later to restock.
Not much else.
Bob I got tired just reading all you are doing.
JT, yes as the weather cools off the trains warm up.
Aloha. Missed my usual train and paid for it by dodging raindrops in the storm that's heading Kev's way... JT, this is definitely the time of year I start messing with the trains again. With the bride out at her book club last night, I started by cleaning track and running Ivor a bit to 'stretch his legs' um, wheels.

Evening all,
Temps starting to go down finally. 97 today but low humidity so not so bad.
Doug M - how long do you have to wait for another train when you miss one?
Submm - man you beat me for daily activity.
V8 - you are lucky to have a person who can fix that. Hard to find a good mechanic around here. I use the Chevy dealer as they do have to stand up for their work even though it is not cheap. Plus since we drive around the country a bit, dealers can access all your service records.
88 - I do not recall. Why are you dismantling your layout?
Spent a wad at Krogers and splurged on some nice rib eyes for dinner. It has been a long time since we have done steaks on the grill. Darn good stuff but it will kill you. According to my doctor.
I also ran trains last night and got some window strips today I ordered so I can have people eating inside the Diner project. Next is a sign and lights for it.
DougM the rain missed us most of the day. Got under a tenth in the afternoon. Did not get the dirt wet. Fine with me. We have had plenty of rain this year. Just north of us they got pounded.
Leaves are starting to fall and tomorrow is the first day of Fall.
RT...You take care of yourself, ya hear!
Roy...The guards at York are amateurs compared to the Roseyville Police Department.
Fife....88 is right. There are some really neat ways to put light on a layout from the top and the bottom. I have track lighting but I would like to change the fixtures out to handle cooler and colored LED lights.
Just returned home after almost 2000 miles on the road. I have been to Cleveland, Akron, Cincinnati, Lexington, Altoona, Pittsburgh and Youngstown plus several points in between in the last ten days.

Long day at work. Mowed yard tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good morning,
The past two days were busy and I have been hitting the sack by 22:00. Today should be a slower-paced day at work and at home. The weather has been much cooler and I am happy about that; however, we were still able to eat dinner outside last night.
Have a great day,
Joe

lion88roar wrmcclellan 88 - I do not recall. Why are you dismantling your layout? Roy,Nothing definite yet, but leaning more and more toward doing so. We are planning to build a new house in about 5 years, and I doubt I will ever finish the layout. So in an effort to 'prepare' for the move, to give the kids a larger play area (and get their toys to a more centrally located spot), I am probably going to dismantle the large layout. Looking to build a smaller layout that can serve a dual purpose of a Christmas - under-the-tree - layout and a layout where the kids and I can run trains through-out the year. I'll also build them a small layout for their Thomas trains (Lionel ones, not the Brio stuff). We also want to clean-up the basement so we can actually use it for something other than storage (it is about 70% finished space and I may finish the last remaining large space to about 90% finished).

Time to put 911 back on speed dial? ( sorry Brent couldn't resist ( and I'm one who probably shouldn't be talking seeing I tried to make one thumb into two with a table saw, back about 10 years ago)
No real big newws here, still waiting for the V.A. to get things in order. The DR.'s here where ready to discharge me back on Monday saying I was ready to go home but the V.A. is the one not doing what needs to be done for me to go home.
Hope I will be going home by tomorrow some time. Really don't want another weekend here. I have a bunch of train items needing my attention. I had bought a bunch of switches ( O22) and controllers that I need to test and rewire the controllers. Bought a prewar train set that needs some going over also.
Need to build some portable 4' shelves also for the unit Donna has in the vintage mall in batesburg/leeville, S.C. I have trains to put on them. ( basically 1x4's at 4' with legs( that have will be stained and poly coated with track size slots for the trains to roll in.) Last set was part of the deal to sell the boxcars for the Bicenteninal set. ( oh for those wonder of my restrictions no lifting over head or over 8LBs at present. all of the above is less than 8 LBs and won't need me to lift over my head. )
Otherwise I'm doing well. Will talk to you all later.

Good Morning,
Been awhile (again)! Most importantly I am really glad to hear RT is doing well !! Hope Kev is doing better as well, you have suffered too much already!
Went to my 50 year High School reunion last weekend, it was really great. It was held at a winery in Temecula, and the facility and food was spectacular, not to mention the wine. My wife and I went, and met up with a very good friend who was like a sister to me in hs. We have kept in touch through the years, but it was great to see her, and introduce her to my wife. Met a lot of old acquaintences and enjoyed all the conversation. Was funny though with a class size of 1400, didn't know a lot of people, and I was kinda shy as well. Then the yearbook picture that was on the id card, wasn't me! So that made things interesting as well. But it all worked out, had a great time, btw there were 200 people there.
Old age setting in...... Can't believe I did this! Had an optometry appt this week. I got new glasses last year at this time, and had a heck of a time adjusting to the "minor" change. Finally in June I decided to go back to the VA and complain, but I had a previously scheduled appt for late Sept., and they suggested I wait for that. The problem was the "old" pair of glasses seemed better than the "new" pair. But, I kept wearing the new pair thinking I would adjust. At the appointment after I explained my concern, the optimetrist explained that I had been wearing the old pair all along!! I had mixed them up (same frames), and had not used the new pair at all !!! How dumb!
Hope all you guys do well and stay healthy! God Bless!
Don
Don I was very disappointed when I went to our 50th HS reunion. There was nothing but old people there.

I am doing much better, Thanks Don,
I agree with SJ on the old people at reunions.
Wow slept like crap last night. Right arm is the villain.
Had to get some gas treatment and 2 gallons of fresh Hot gas and run it in the 1975 Trident. The old gas I drained out two days ago I put in the Gator to burn it up. So Gas has been changed and a nice 8 mile ride to freshen it up through the carbs. Ran perfect not one stumble. Makes me wish I was not so old and stiff and could go for a good long ride. Funny how it makes you feel just like you did when it was new in 1975.
Other than that not much on the plate today.
SJ, I couldn't agree with you more. I went to the 30th and left after an hour. I think what made this good was 2 things; 1- It was held at a winery, 2- My wife and I arrived there about 4 hours early, and each had 2 bottles of wine BEFORE the reunion.
Good day at work and tomorrow will be even better as pain two is taking the day off. Lousy results in soccer. My team lost, the junior high lost, "my" soccer girls lost, and I imagine the boys will lose as well. Weather was good. I hope everyone has a good day.
It has been a while for me too. Been taking care of some problems relating to my wife's care. It's OK now, I hope. I have been alone a lot lately. My kids don't call as much as they used to but they have been busy too Moving my grandson into his new digs for his second year at UC Irvine. They had to buy some furniture for his off campus apartment which he is sharing with three other students to keep the cost down. My friend Larry generously replaced some punched out windows in three scale 80 ft. Pullman cars made by Golden Gate Depot. They weren't glued in very well and I must have picked up the cars wrong. Now I know better. The disassembly of the cars is very tidious and require some dexterity that I don't posess. There are a lot of small phillips head screws to take out and springs to release from the couplers in order to get the bodies off. I have been running trains a little bit lately whenever I can catch a cool day in the garage.
Don sounds like you had a good time at the class reunion. I'm sure the wine made it brighter.
I've been having fun lately looking at something on facebook. Someone started a group for people who grew up in my home town of Portsmouth, Va. Lots of pictures and memories.
later,
Ray

Morning all. Already did the hold your breath and they pulled the tubes. I still have one a wound vac where the defibrillator was and will for a few weeks while it is making sure there isn't a pocket left there. There slowly but surely getting things together. There going to use my Medicare for the home nurse part. That leaves the wound vac and the IV tree and transportation home. ( I can't drive and Donna never has.) With our fingers and toes crossed this will all happen today. ( Monday will be 3 weeks if not. ) Not much else going on other than above. I'm trying to take it one day at a time and not get upset. I haven't seen Donna since September 6th. As I'm 50 miles away and she has no way to get here. Sorry if it sounds like I'm moaning as I don't mean to, just would like to get back home for a change and get a decent night's sleep.I have about 15 switch controllers that need rewiring and about, and 14 switches to test. That ought to give me something to do for a couple of days I also have like train sets to check out and clean up.Will talk to you all later
Mornin' boys. Sunny & 61 in the Mid-Atlantic region. Probably will be the last good weekend for the yatchett. Most of the layout's buildings are boxed away, and the grandson got to play Green Giant again yesterday, helping to de-forest the landscape. Plumber guy coming this weekend to cross off some "wants" be the buyers. POD will be dropped off on the 1st. T minus 2 weeks at Fifedom.
rt - I can only imagine how things are going for you right now. Wish I was there to help unite the two of you. Hang in there. Fifey-Wifey doesn't drive either...
88 - Sounds like you are going for a more manageable layout endeavor. Mine will be geared on more seamless operation, so not as many grades, narrow passages, and turnouts. BTW, the new digs will be very close to Cumberland, so I expect you and Banks to be frequent guests. Check out some of the videos posted using JSI Inspire drone around Cumberland (especially the one over the Narrows). That is the biggest thing in railfanning since the advent of K64.
SPMan - I have the same issue with K-Line and Atlas caboose windows. Sheesh.
Another day with a cool breeze this morning. Low 90's today. Rain on Sunday due to the cold front.
Don - I gave up on my class reunions as they were only "chips and dips" gatherings. Had a vineyard been involved so would I. We had 1012 in our class. I met folks in college I never knew went to my high school (same class).
Fife - wow - 2 weeks to go!
RT - hang in there. Prayers for going home and a reunion with Donna asap
Kev - glad you are feeling better!
I have seen some of the drone train chasing. Pretty impressive. Not sure what the RRs think about it. Have an acquaintance that had his drone confiscated by the police when he flew it over a large city concert/food event. He has had to enlist a lawyer to try and get it back.
