Good Morning, & Happy Mother's Day !!

A couple of past due replies;

- Banks, The El Camino is an 87.  My first one was 86, had it about 9 months and it was stolen.  Then luckily got the 87, (bought it new).  It is identical to the 86, the 87 has been stolen once, from OUR driveway.  When got it back the radio, lid (cover on back), spare tire, AND a Marker Light were missing.  Now it stays IN the garage, has an alarm system, Kill switch, Girdle on the Ignition switch, and locking bar.  Most importantly carefull where we take it.

My El Camino

- Doug's (Plural), Yep I think I'm going to pursue the Docent thing.  I think I would enjoy it.  Anyway, the train club in San Pedro is just getting too expensive $30/mth.  And I'm lucky if I get there once a month.  Seems unusual that with around 30 members the treasury always hovers around $10k, asked why they don't reduce the dues, and was told that then it would only just break even.  Surprising when the rent is $0. SoapBox

Doug dg, Its probably been 4 or 5 years since the Chief and I came down, and we went to the car event and dinner.

Another long week on the layout, however probably only ONE week left!!!  Have all the difficult switches reconfigured for non-derailing, now the easy access ones. And miscellaneous clean-up.

We went to a local play last night, it was probably the Best play I have ever attended!  It was "Around the World in 80 Days", there were only 5 actors, and they did the whole thing, changing characters throughout.  It was actually a satire on the original story.  Absolutely Hilarious!!  (Wish I could share it!)

Going to do a cook-out today, so need to get the patio cleaned up.  Hope you ALL and your families have a great day!

EDIT:

Just saw DDG, and Chief's posts.

Doug, Those people are ABSOLUTLY nuts, that's the last thing you should do out chasing tornadoes, STUPID!!!

Chief is right, it was shortly after he left in 2013 that I had the fall out with the engine.  How could one forget!  (Still waiting final report from surgeon, should be VERY soon)!

That is because Shake and Bake tried to parachute out of a steam engine without the parachute. Confused  Would have been back sooner.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the Mom's.  Off to In-laws' to see my MIL.

Happy Mother's Day boys!  Sunny, breezy and 60ish in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Just sent Wifey off with all 3 princesses to the O's game.  It's a surprise that the middle princess and I cooked up a month ago.  Wifey didn't like being rushed out the door, but I'm sure she will cherish the memories.

Me?  Gonna pick up the fifepup and hang out on the yatchet.  Win-win.

Hello all

Been an interesting week back at work so far. Our firewall went down so we had no internet for a few days. It's also the gateway so in the process of troubleshooting it, the entire local network crashed. The boss brought up a new one and spent most of Friday evening installing it and getting the system back up and running. Then at 10PM last night (I am on day shift this week) we had a power outage and the generator didn't kick in. So I get up to help the other operator shut the system back down to conserve UPS power. 3 hours later I go back to bed only to get up @ 6AM and fight the control system some more to get back on  line after the receiver cooled back down. In less than a half hour I have to shut down again for the switch back to commercial power and later on we will probably be closed for weather.

How is your Sunday going?

On the train front, I got the AF290 I got from RT up and running. Needed a good cleaning and new reversing unit fingers and tether. Runs like a champ now.

Need to pick up some more smoke fluid at some point and test the smoker. I gave what I had left to our mechanic w/ the Marx train for his son. Then I'll need a few oods and ends for the cars that came with it.

Banks - Roy mentioned they were made by Atlas too. My buddy had a small Craftsman lathe that was fairly nice. Bill in the Corvair club has got a small one of unknown manufacturer I'd like to try playing with.

Gotta start getting ready for more power fun

Afternoon fellas

Finally got the lawn mowed - holy cow did it grow! As Fife pointed out we had rain 5 of the last 7 days. On Tuesday the lawn guys came and fertilized (couldn't mow) then rain everyday since - with spots of Sun... so the lawn had started to seed... hope to some of that grows. LOL

Picked up the gifts for TheQ. She has been having quite a relaxing Mother's Day (boy does she need it).

Well off to make some lunch. Smile

DBaker - nice wheels! Thumbs Up

Well mother's day was okay guys, The weather started out fair to midland but then got out right nice. I made Brunch and dinner for the wife. Cut four out of five sections of yard then relaxed and then the daughter and grandson Jordan came by and the kid and I had Gator and Tractor rides. Then I put the Menards CNW flatcar on the layout and gave it a spin. I am at the point now if something goes on the layout, something has to come off the layout. That is about it.
Good night.

Aloha. Grey and cool and rainy later. Mom's day was pleasant though. The bride enjoyed a relaxing day - mostly alone the way she wanted it - had to remind the youngest that an appropriate gift wasn't a customized Minecraft 'Happy Mom Day' sign and enormous block statue of said mother. It was amusing but he did it in about 10 minutes. Later he redeemed himself by buying her chocolate. ;)

Buckeye, the SS Riveter sounds perfect except it needs a sail. Nice pick-up of the cleaning car.

I'm with Brutus about storing things on the layout. I'm impressed with all the shelves.

Good afternoon all,

We are tuckered out after my son's wedding on Saturday but we had a nice mothers day get together with my wife in her new facility.  They put on an afternoon tea with goodies and flowers for the mothers.

My number two son and his new wife are honeymooning in Baja California on the pennensula down there near Cabo San Lucas I think.  Her sister had a time share that she let them use.  They called last night and said the seafood was great. Said they had halibut for dinner.  Price on it here is pretty high now.

Since I am the last of the Mohicans here at the home place, I am learning to do some new chores since Richard moved out.  Vacumned the pool today for starters.  Got a lady coming next week to help me get the house organized.

Got a call today from the Long term Care Insurance Company who wants to do an evaluation on Helen and the place where she is staying now.  Will meet later this week.  Should be a slam dunk in my opinion but will feel better when they approve.

Got my annual termite inspection today.  At least I passed that.

It's lunch time already and I'm just getting started.

later,

Ray

Quiet in here today.

Had CHF group meeting this morning followed by a visit to the vampires then was a bad boy on the way home. The BetterHalf and I stopped at In-N-Out Burger for lunch Dinner, gotta be really good for the next few days to make up for today's extravagence.

Not much happening on the train front, other than the repair track seems to be getting crowded. Sigh

Good evening all,

Good day at work. Pain two was gone part of the day.  Got labs done and most of the case reports.  Should be quiet tomorrow.  Tonight did not go well.  Went to run 384E Lionel Classic and it just quits on me at random.  I think the E-unit is crapped out again.  If I can find a repair person, I may have him or her put in an electronic one.   I do not care about resell value as that is all gone, but I just want the d--- thing to run.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Mornin' boys.  Overcast and 50's in the Mid-Atlantic region, where we're expecting our 15th day in a row of some precipitation.  Watched the O's beat the Twinkies last night, which keeps them neck and neck with RockIsland52's (where are you Jack?) Bosox.  Will be checking out a couple houses this week.  Crabcakes (Buckeye knows the ones) tonight.  Picked up an Agfascop 200 last night to view my extensive slide collection with.  My railfanning kinda died with Kodachrome.

Good morning,

FOG Is the word today. 59 heading to 78. Wife is only doing a half day so should be home around 11:00.

This LapTop is running and quiet this morning after yesterday's problems. Microsoft should call in the next three hours to see what is up with the windows 10 updates not working.  Bang Head Bang Head

I don't know how much rain we got but it was a lot. Sump pump is kicking on about every five to ten minutes. That is a lot for here

I had one 'die' on me and all it took was pulling the cover off the back (had to put a fluffy blanket on the dinning room table and lay the tv screen down on the blanket, remove the stand (4 screws) and something like 12 more screws) I then checked all the fuses (one at a time, and took pictures of each type and wrote down the specs) I then went to a local electrical supply store (RadioShack, Lowes, and HomeDepot don't stock them all) and bought replacements and spares for each, replaced the fuses, put it back together and VIOLA screen was working again. Cost me about $30 for all the fuses, 2 hours drive time, 30 minutes install time.

That was with a Samsung. The Toshiba that died didn't have any way to remove the back panel, so it went back to BestBuy for recycling when I got the new Samsung for the family room. I now look at the back of the unit prior to purchase to see if you can remove the back panel.

Knowing what Kodachrome is, my guess would be a either a used slide projector, or slide viewer...

The PizzaBeer will be after it's completed under budget. The schedule runs 500 calendar days from notice to proceed. I'll be less than a year away from tapping the SS Fund.

Kinda thought it was some kindof viewer

Aloha. Very 'froggy' in Chicago. Feel sorry for any air travellers. Sending it all off to SJ. I'm impressed with your repair, Brent. I usually cant figure out how to open the back of a malfunctioning LED screen - though the ones we use for passive kiosk displays are designed to be 'reset' as you did.

Thanks a lot for that ear-worm, Fife. Smile

Good morning all,

Getting a rash of phone calls from telemarketers this AM.  I usually let the answering machine screen the calls but I'm expecting important calls so don't want to take a chance on missing one.

Went to see my wife yesterday and took over some paper work to be done.  They are having a plumbing problem in her room.  Second time it has happened.  Will ask for a new room if this keeps up.  While I was there I had lunch with her.  They served some (new to me) vegetable kind of like brown rice.  It is called quinoa.  If some of you guys think grits were bad, you ought to try this stuff.  It's the pits.  There was an article about it in the Los Angeles Times today.  It grows like weeds and looks like it too.  It grows in little clusters of seeds. There is plenty of good food in this country without using this crud.

Hello all

Back in the Ol' Pueblo as of last night.

Banks - congrats and good luck w/ that!

Fife - in conjunction w/ your audio/visual blast from the past, as a result of my less than 3 yr old point and shoot crapping out, I stopped by the local camera store this morning. Was going to give him the old battery and charger if he wanted it and see what camera's he had in stock. Place is like a museum. I'm sure he had at least one of those things you were talking about. Found a used digital camera for $10 and he even threw in the $10 battery! Must be at least 15 years old but it still works. Will go back tomorrow and see if he has a small case for it.

Off to try and start the '53 Twin Coach bus w/ the Holley 2-brl I rebuilt.

Bob

PS - first pic I took w/ the 'new' camera was off the layout. Once I can find a USB interface cable for it, I will post it.
