Good Evening All,

Doing very well here, boat of us.  Kay is doing well, she did some driving today.  Chris made her promise to drive around in our tract before she hit the major streets.  So she was quite proud.  Tomorrow we both have Dr appointments, maybe just maybe, I may end up loosing my cast and just come home with a "cam walker shoe".  That will really be great!  Kay's appoint is a post op visit with her Dr., so Im sure that will go well.

Spent some time working in the train room today.  Have an old AF 596 Water Tower.  It hasn't been working for a couple of years.  I had moved it and a wire broke of the inner coil that activates the water spout.  Of course the wire was the internal wire on the coil next to the bobbin core.  So I completely unwound the wire, rerouted the lost end, then rewound it all.  And even got it back together correctly!  And it WORKS!  Also, had put together a A&W Root Beer Stand a few months ago.  The kit had a balsa wood backing then a thicker piece of wood for the backing.  I had used Elmers wood glue for assembly, well the thin balsa wood piece warped.  And it really warped bad, looks like a potato chip.  So I cut that piece out, and managed to repair the stand.  Looks ok, I have some touch up painting to do, then some decals and it will be fine.

Discovered I having a small problem on the layout, where I have two Ross switches back to back, the Diesel engines are stalling out.  Got to see what is going on, dirty track, maybe a loose rail?  Can't believe a wiring issue, need to check roller spacing, and switch geometry.

Laz, don't forget all those birthdays add up and each one comes at a little cost, so dont over do it.

Chief/Roy, regarding the mayor from San Marino,  I'm sure with the pay and all the benefits that guy is well over 6 figures.  Notice he resigned as mayor, (for city's benefit, but STAYING on the city council...hmmm).  BTW San Marino is where the Rose Bowl Parade is run.

Ray, sure hope things start to work out for you soon!  Don't give up!!

That's it for now, so remember Be Safe and Stay Healthy!!!

Good morning all,

Dennis, use some of those target practice rounds on the rattlesnakes.  I hate em.  We probably have a bunch in the hills above us.

Chief, sorry you're having so much trouble getting that wound healed up.

Don, way to go getting back at your layout projects.  I haven't spent much time in my garage/train room for the last month or so because of wife's problems.

Got notice from electric company about our high energy use with place to write to for tips but I lost it.  Will have to get another survey.  Our pool filter and a/c pulls a lot of juice.  I have put the pool on off peak hours to run only at night and turned the thermostat up to 78 during peak hours.  Have been using low energy electric fans during those times.  I know the problem with the house is lack of insulation.  Would probably cost a bundle to "wrap" the house with a coating or something and would probably take a lot of years to realize the savings.

Some people in the neighborhood going for solar panels for energy but cost too much for me.

later,

Ray

Good evening all,

Today created a vacuum.  There are too many stupid people in the world, and I think I have to deal with every one of them.   All the time and effort we spent on the back bathroom is going to h--- in a handbasket because some stupid people cannot a d---- thing right.  Wife is tired of all the crap that is going wrong, and then I have to listen to people at work who do not know their posterior from an excavation in the ground.  I just spent a half hour trying to put a d---- switch plate back on, and the six hole plate had one d---- screw that would not line up.   Finally got the piece back on.   Too d---- late for me to be up doing this crap now.  I hope every one has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

PS did get to play soccer tonight, but all the relaxation I got from that went down the drain with that d---- switchplate.

Good Evening,

First....

Chief take care of the wound on your back, sure don't need an infection.  Prayers your way.

Dennis, from your last post see that you escaped the snakes, good news!!!  Glad the car problem was taken care, could have been worse!

Good to see SJ survived the Birthday, careful on the ice cream, don't want to much blood sugar.

Mike C, dont let a light switch get you done.  Hope the switches work as needed so you dont have to take it off again.

Anjdevil, Good luck with the metting sounds like fun.  Doin a car rally?

Ray, You probably can get that survey on line.  Saw where the electric rate is going up real soon.  Really ticks me off.  And the solar companies have to really be careful with them, another stickey thing that can get real expensive.  And the only winners are the installation companies.

Well, we got through today OK!  Kay had her first post op check up, and she really did great!  The Dr was quite pleased!  So everything is on track and proceding to schedule.  My Dr visit wasn't bad either.  I didn't get my cast off, Dr wants it on for another couple of weeks, then most likely take it off.  For some reason he wants to proceed "with caution", something about an incident last January ? Hmm  He did say to keep applying weight to the leg, and should be able to get to full weight bearing in the next two weeks.  And, walk about 2 hours a day.  (Not at all at once of course.)  Was hoping to get the cast off so I could start using the Spa, but will just wait.

Were suppose to do a computer show this Saturday, but don't think thats going to happen.  We could do it with team work, but neither one of us want to take a risk of something happening.  However, will most likely go to a train meet on Sunday.

So take care and Stay Healthy !!

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

I have been tremendously busy this week.  The packers/movers packed up and crated our things this past Tuesday and Wednesday.  We filled eleven crates which should be roughly 11,000 pounds worth of stuff.  We have about 2,000 pounds in storage in the US; we'll have that delivered once we get to Dayton.  We are down to 24 days before we depart and I have plenty of loose ends to tie up at work.

Chuck - I'll email you some photos of the UTB RR.

SJ - Happy Belated Birthday!

Brent - I hope the family is feeling better.

Don B. - I'm glad Kay's first post op check-up went well.

RT - Train Cruise is a weekly show on NHK.  NHK is an English broadcast Japanese station that has a few shows we like to watch.  The Train Cruise show is my favorite.  I'm not sure which episode you saw but this past week's was a two-part show and was extremely neat.

Mike C. - I hope you're having a better day.

Sayonara,

Joe

Dennis I once won a complete marx train set with free shipping for $0.99 I could not accept it the guy was selling for another in CA. I told him to keep it and relist in in oct or november ( it was like august) I just threw the starting bid on it to make the guy feel like he was getting a bid as he was kinda a new guy. He said he would honor it if I wanted it and I said I just could accept something you ended up paying me to take thats why I list at the lowest price I will accept.

To me any car is worth $10 if its in good shape. The trucks are worth that in most cases.

Good evening all,

Today is better.  Thank you for the support.  It has been a long week, but the weekend is here.  Went to see "How to train your dragon".  Good movie.  Lots of rain here today.  Will have to mow Saturday.   Grandkids coming down, but no trains for them to run yet.   Maybe one of these days I will have a place for my trains, but not sure when.  Is it Sunday yet?  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening all!

Busy end of the week.

Been pretty warm here but not as hot as it could be.

Drought here is taking a toll on the house. Ground subsidence is so bad the foundation piers installed years ago are holding the outside edges of the foundation up but the entire center of the house is sinking now. They say it would take 10+ years of normal rainfall to replenish ground moisture. Lakes 60- 70% depleted. It is very bad here. No end I'm sight. My back yard is 4 inches lower than normal.

Have a great weekend all!

Don - glad to hear the good news!

Regards, Roy

Roy -- Mother Nature is a fickle gal, we just went through two years of drought and this week our kids in NE Iowa have had 8" of rain and that's after an average spring of moderate rain.  Here is central IA we've had about 4" of rain this week, the crops look amazing.  Sadly, in NW IA thousands of acres of cropland are now flooded.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It's been somewhat of a busy day.  I spent most of it rebooting our two laptops; it was time to refresh them so they would run faster.  The only other errand we did today was take care of the grocery shopping.  We got rid of our backyard fence today.  We didn't charge for it, except the people that wanted it had to take it down themselves.  It only took them about three hours.

Chuck - I'm glad you liked the photos.

Now to run some errands.

Off early tomorrow morning east to the farms to service deer feeders and spray shooting lanes.  Going to sweat a lot so taking lots of bottles of water.  Towing 4 wheeler to help haul corn and etc. deep into the woods.

Good evening all,

Another weekend down the drain.   Mowing Saturday morning really took a toll on me, and the grandkids were too tired out from all their week activities to be in a mood to spend time with the grandparents.  Of course everyone knows what happened today so it will be 3 games and done for US.  I hope everyone has  a good day.

Keep on training,

Good evening all,

It is amazing the difference 2 hours can make.   My mood has been less than cheerful the past few days as anyone here can testify.   Tonight life is all better.   I got to practice and scrimmage with "my" soccer girls....in the rain.   If you have ever played a sport on a warm summer day in the rain, you know what I am talking about.   You do not sweat, the ball slows down, and you just have....FUN!!!   Yes, I am still upset the US blew a round advancing win, yes, work still created a vacuum today, but for 2 hours I did not care.  It was wonderful!  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

19 more days and we'll be on a plane to Hawaii.  The past two days were somewhat busy and I ran out of time to post.  The weather is warm and it still rains almost every other day, but the rainy season should be over soon.  I have only 11 days of work remaining and still quite a bit to finish up before I leave.

RT - Congratulations on winning the gift card.

Mike C. - I'm glad playing the soccer game made you feel better.  After the US loses to Germany you will not have to worry about the World Cup for four more years and can then focus on American sports. Smile, Wink & Grin

Morning all.  Back from Dr. and had wound reopened.  She massed the heck out of it.  Said she thought it was from the big bruise internally.  I had healed too fast inside where internal stiches were.  Needed to reopen and heal.  Original incision was 4 inches long.  Unhealed is only one inch.  Results, back bandaged up tight again.

Yesterday was not too bad heat and humidity wise.  Had a good breeze yesterday afternoon.  Wind does blow across those wide open flat fields.  That helps.  Bear had hit only one feeder.  Replaced it with 55 gallon drum converted with reinforced driven in the ground legs.  Top has band with bolt.  We'll see.  Sprayed all the shooting lanes with Ranger.  Not a lot of spraying to do as Ranger kills it all.  Been sprayed for two years in a row.  Stuff really works.  Friend Fred had purchased a Polaris 500 4 wheeler.  Made hauling corn and backpack sprayer deep into the woods a lot easier.  Results last night.  Only 6 ticks.  Deep Woods Off and a special clothing spray helped.

Mayor stuff rest of the day and night.

Have a great week ahead.

Evenin' boys.  Sunny & 84 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Was at the range all day qualifying with our newly issued FNS-40.  Good weapon, although a bit hard on the hands.  Buying my old SIG-2340.

Some of the goodies I picked up at the train show were an uncatalogued Lionel 7312 stock car, a Marx 74 semaphore, a 4-pack of TM videos, and "dress-up" pieces for my 1862 General.  The Marx "blade" is in great condition, and is more scale-sized than Lionel's 151.

Chief, glad to hear that you had something done for your wound.  Prayers for quick healing.

Been laying low for the past few here.  Too hot to do anything outside.  Parks are too hot and ocean is too far for a round trip during the day without hitting rush hour traffic or driving back at night which I don't like.  Took a dip in the pool yesterday but didn't stay in long.

#2 son is going away on another trip to Oregon this weekend to visit a friend so I won't get much help out of him this week.  Older son has been coming over to visit his mother for the last two weekends which is a help to me.  We went to foot doctor today for regular visit and was uneventful.  We go to prevent ingrown toe nails.

Might go out to eat tonight with church friend at a cheap place.  He has some coupons.  We are tired of high prices at restaurants because we eat out a lot and tired of paying the big bucks for no value.  Friend is going away with his family this week on a trip to Colorado for vacation.  He has been traveling a lot since his wife died.  He has been to Paris, Hawaii and now the Rockies.  Must be nice.  I think his kids were picking up the tab on his trips.

Still no progress on getting my expenses organized and listed for the financial planner but I have to do it.  My heart just isn't in it.  Sometimes I just feel overwhelmed.  Hope tomorrow is more productive.

later,

Ray
