traindood Mornin' fellas and gals; Snowing lightly here on and off. Hey Laz; Re: Ethnic parties Part Two. One of my best friends; Vaju (Walter) was going into the Army and his family had a going away party for him and I was invited. If you saw the party in the "Deer Hunter" it was something like that, only the women were more wild than the men! I would be going shortly also. While at the party, Walter's father came over to both of us and spoke to his son in Polish. After he left I asked him what his father said. Walter said his father just asked about the food. Only years later, actually decades, we spoke about his father (who was long gone by then); the party etc. Walter then told me what his father actually said at the going away party. The father wanted to know why his son had invited somebody that didn't drink vodka with his beer! later.

Funny and great story, DOOD!!!! That's how my Zeddi (Grandfather in Slovak) was too. He'd always talk to me in Slovak and I started to understand it then he had to go to heaven. He was my idol growing up especially when I was sick or near the holidays he would have shots of Rock & Rye and give me a shot. He'd say just sip it nice and slow. Helped my colds real good. Maybe that's why he was my idol?

cnw1995 Aloha. I am wandering in freezing fog today - whatever that is - something out of a movie where you can almost see the weird droplets. Charlie and Buckeye, serving in the USCG on the Great Lakes in winter has got to be quite an adventure! Or heck, serving on one of the big freighters too.Oh Laz, that's bad luck. How do you empty a misfire without getting shot?TGIF

DOUG, Its a Flintlock so you just have to cock the hammer back pull trigger flint hit frizzen(metal), opens pan causes spark, sparks go into pan then ignites fine power4f, this leads to main charge of coarser powder 2f that sends the ball and patch out barrel. This is why the darn things don't always goes off and causes a misfire or should I say no fire.
ChiefEagles Morning. Cloudy and misting rain. Going to be 70 and T'storms [yes] tomorrow. Crazy. LAZ, glad you are not living in pioneer times. You'd starve to death. Buckeye, keep those lake open. Bet that is tough duty. Off to Big Rock outdoors distributor's show at the convention center. Have a good one.

Shoe leather isn't that bad tasting.
Gotta go out now for 2.5 hrs. gonna try again.
Thanks for the explanation, Laz. So if it misfires, you either refill the pan and try again or do you have to clear the bullet from the barrel - if you have to get the bullet out and reload everything, how does it get removed without damaging you? Boy, I bet you have to cover everything when it is damp out - what a fun challenge!

Laz, i would retire that gun before it does you some harm. Obviously, it's not doing any harm to the deer population.
Don, glad to hear from you. Figured you might go to the train show in Anaheim. I guess you knew that the Train Stop in San Dimas has closed their doors for good as of Dec. 20th. Drove by there the other day and saw good bye signs in window and a for sale sign on the building. Knew Paul Kirby when he opened the place 40 years ago. Also my best friend, now deceased, did Lionel repair work for his customers for many years. Our Thursday night group started in the back of that store 40 years ago. Sad to see it all end. Paul passed away about a year ago. His wife handled all the liquidation sales. I got a couple of things out of there but all the good stuff was gone by the time I got there.
Drove wife to doctor appointment this morning and took Buick for another drive after that. Battery is fine now and holding a good charge. Took son to have a leak in his car checked out. They could not find anything. Must have been condensation. He will keep an eye on it.

Hello There,
Glad it's finally the weekend. Spent much of the week at work catching up. Evenings was watching the PA Farm Show on the PCN Network.
Glad the cold snap is over. I used a lot of coal. Supposed to rain tomorrow. the plan is for Son & I to shut down and clean Dad's boiler. Sunday I hope to remove the few outdoor decorations we put out this year.
Laz.....you're not putting too much 4F in the flash pan are you? I discovered if the frizzen is packing it down it's hard to ignite.
Charlie.......glad to see the olive branch extended. I for one follow both "Pots" The thing that bothered me most was the way all were punished for the words of a few. Just my
Doug.....a Coal Prep plant I worked on about 1990 had freezing fog most of the winter. It was on top of a mountain near Central City PA. It was constantly foggy. They got it closed in about spring Ice would build up a couple of inches thick in the side of beams and columns facing the wind
May or may not go to the Greenberg Show in Monroeville next weekend. Last time I went (a couple years ago) I was disappointed in the quantity and quality of dealers.
Off to bed
Prayers for those in need

Good night all. Raining hard and temps jumping up. Suppose to be some T'storms tomorrow.
The Big Rock show is something. Wish I could take LAZ. No flintlock rifles there. Black powder but the modern jobs. Lots of everything hunting, fishing and outdoors. He would really like this. Hornady, bullet and ammo manufacturer gave free beer with a big H mug. Not much of a beer drinker but got one for the mug as I shoot a lot of Hornady ammo.
When I left, all the mugs were gone but the beer was flowing.
Back tomorrow around noon. On the marine/fishing side, my "boss" and Pro Mariner was there with chargers. Found out they have a new improved Pro Sport series. He is sending me a couple.
Sleep tight.

Good evening all,
Another good day at work. Essentially got caught up on most of what I was behind on. Watched Grimm tonight. Heard that Lionel will be making O-31 fastrack switches. Good news. Quiet weekend of "real" football planned. Maybe a movie as well. Will finish putting away Christmas stuff tomorrow. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good Morning from Blueberryhill.........
It is dark and 57 degrees. Going up to 64 today, which is nuts.
Today is an easy day. I have a few chores and then I think I will do some reading of the new CTT mag. Lunch and a nap.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Saturday.
Chuck
Mornin' boys. Mornin' English. Mornin' Wolverines. Foggy and 37 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Long week, glad it's over. All the decorations are boxed, and the only thing still out is the North Pole layout. If it weren't for the little one, Wifey would have had that packed up too.
Good Morn!
12 hours at work yesterday....shoot me
61 and rain as I went in to work today.
I may be off York Friday, so there is a possible trip in the works.
FD Dinner next Saturday...a "mini" vacation in the works...lol OPEN BAR!!!
Off to the torture...
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
Morning. Off to Church to take down Christmas tree and then Big Rock. Extra warm with T'storms possible.
Hi GUYZ,
RAINING here today,Drat!!! No hunting today with flintlock. That means season is over. Yesterday at 5 PM. I had 10 deer walk down 53 yards from me. When I first saw them they were coming in single file and I had to turn to my right nice and easy. I was on a small hill about 20 ft up from them and they did not see me. I had the first 4 go by and saw the fifth one was a nice size doe, so had hammer back drew a bead on her and had an opening of about 2 foot diameter at 53 yrd. It was my only shot and with all the drama this gun gives I said it now or never. Pulled the trigger gun goes off deer run all over the place. I paced off how far it was came down to where deer was and looked for hair blood tracks. Saw no hair, or blood. Went tracking deer and saw no signs of a hit. Went to last location and scoured the area and nothing. Came back started agin with flashlite this time , nothing. I just missed my best chance of the year to bag a deer. Drat! Walked out to truck BRO and another guy were there. The other guy said that when I shot all the deer ran past his stand, he was hunting coyotes and said 9 does and a buck ran past him nothing he could tell was limping or was hit,. So I plain missed, and had to EAT MY SHITTAIL. First time I did that in a long time. Oh well like CHIEF said, "I gonna starve".
Came home ate supper and ran trains NO PILE uPs!!!
ANJDEVIL, YORK Friday I'll be there along with rest of the gang. We usually have breakfast at Round the clock diner. You're cordially invited!
DOUG, If main powder is wet in the barrel, there is a bullet puller that you have to use to get out the ball. It takes a little time to do and can be a pain. I had to do it twice. There is no way that the gun can go off with wet powder, so it is a safe way to get ball out.
BANKS, Nope just enough power and everytime before I shoot I always check the pan.
SPANKY, RAY, Yepper I have a powder horn. Also a few film cases with extra powder in.
CHIEF,sounded like a great show!!! FREE BEER!!!! WOW, I'd be standing at the Horandy booth and have a ton of ammo and a good jag on. Did they have lots o fly fishin stuff too?
Stya frosty my friends,
Good Afternoon. 51 and Raining.
All is going well with my wife's knee replacements and she will be coming home on Thursday. Tomorrow we are heading to the National Collector's Show in Brick. A small show but I do score there.
DJ, Traindood, Rich, February 9, The National Collectors Club has a show in Wayne, at the Wayne PAL Hall. Never been to it. Maybe we can meet up.
Laz your Grandfather was a lot like my Grandfather of Ukranian Heritage. I can write pages about him! Sorry you missed dinner.
Looking Forward to York!
John
Oh no! not another Laz I almost shot a deer story. Laz, I think you better stick to fishing. Are those flintlocks smooth bores or rifled? As the Dodgers always said in Brooklyn, we'll get em next year.
Chief, you look pretty sharp with your cowboy hat and beer mug. Sounds like a fun show.
It has just been announced that the U.P. Big Boy will be moved from the Pomona Fairground to the nearest servicing facility in West Colton, Calif, near San Bernardino on January 26th. They are plainning on stopping it enroute at a town near me for viewing and photos. That would be in Covina, Ca. Another report says that the move from there to Cheyenne won't happen until March. Who knows?
On some of the raillfan forums, there has been some bad mouthing of the current U.P. steam team leader. These idiots should be glad they're moving the Big Boy at all no matter who is doing it. There is always one!
later,
Quiet day at home. Got most of the Christmas stuff packed away and marked this time in attic. Watched "Battleship" again. Absolutely unbelievable story line, but it still works. Not a dry eye between wife and I when they "borrow" the Missouri. Got to watch "real" football as Manchester United defeated Swansea City 2-0 today. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good evening all. Home for Big Rock show. Then Fire Department dinner. LAZ, fishing everything too. I bought a new Savage bolt action rifle. SHHHH Don't want Wifey to hear. Going to try the new .17 Winchester Super Mag. Also ordered 5 boxes of ammo. Got a dealers' show price on all so saved below regular wholesale. Also, Pro Mariner was there showing off the newer Gen 3 Pro Sport chargers. Boss is sending me two new ones.
Well, TV and caffeine free Diet Pepsi.
LATER.
PS: while I was at the show, we had tornado warning. Yes and big rains. Show went on as it was in basement of civic center which was safe.
Good Evening!
Got back a little while ago from the rehab center. My wife is doing great. She can't wait to get out on Thursday. Today was a goof off day. I ran the trains, did some repairs and scored Greenburg's Guide to Marx Trains Vol. II for my son off the Bay.
DJ: that must be some ride to the Wayne PAL Hall for you! lol Maybe a trip to Rutt's Hut or we cruise down to Union to the Galloping Hill Inn. Did you ever go to that show?
Chief: 2 new chargers. Nice.
Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.
John, great to hear from you. Glad everything is going good.
Sleep tight all.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill...........
It is 37 degrees and cloudy. Going up to 46 today.
Today is an easy day. I am reading the CTT mag and watching the playoff games. Maybe a nap, after lunch.
Usual breakfast on the dining car.
Y'all have a great Sunday.
Mornin' boys. Clearing and 41 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Wifey & I had some quality time last night, and I'm feelin' pretty chipper this AM. Gonna straighten up the basement and change the oil on the Durango today.
Did a client supper last night. Mrs. Buckeye loves client suppers where we go to something better than Chuckie Cheese.
Heading to the lake to check the house to see if it survived the cold. We turned off all the water and opened all the faucets to drain the water into the basement where it would stay somewhat warm if power went off. Power and heat was on the all the time, so with doors open below the sinks and the ceiling fans running, we should be okay.
Stupid software will not make all the font the same size.

Morning all. Sunny and warm. Big storms went through. Blew down a whole set of townhouses under construction in west Raleigh. Framed and plywooded. Seems mighty unsteady to me.
Fifey, good weather brings out the better feelings.
Off to Sunday School. Then a wine and cheese thingy with local Legislative delegation this afternoon. Also a walk thingy with them on greenway. Seems my schedule is too crowded.
Have a great week.
Chief - Weather-smeather... EMPTY HOUSE!
38 here and windy. Gonna do a nice 5 mile walk to river and back with dog and WIFE. Then paint the portholes I made out of foam and scored the stones with the Tippi hot knife. Wow does that work great. Even WIFE was impressed with the way I used the tool. Today gonna do a little more on my mountain. I try and get about 2 hrs a day working on the layout. Nice to do with a little bit of country music plating.
SPMAN, RAY, The flintlock is my favorite gun to shoot. Yes it is a pain if it doesn't go off but that's half the fun of it. Also I built this gun out of a kit back in the 80s. I even taught a class on muzzleloading in the HS. This is where we built guns. Try that today? We worked the wood, carved sanded, and blued or browned the barrels. All great fun then we took the guns down to the local shooting range and I taught the kids how to load and fire them. Ah the good ol days.
HUDSONJOHN, Yepper looking forward to another great breakfast meeting. See you in April.
Stay frosty my friends,

Spanky, yes that's the one they are going to restore in Cheyenne Wyoming for the U.P. 150th anniversary some years away.
Good morning all,
One of my favorite steam engines acted up yesterday. I think I may have stripped a main gear. I opened up the gear box and found filings and lots of gunk. I cleaned it up and put in new lubricant but the engine still will not run in the forward direction. It will only back up. Electronics are OK. This was the MTH Premier Santa Fe Northern 4-8-4 made in 1995. The gear is probably pressed on the axle so don't have the tools to do that even if I can get the part. Need to find someone who can fix it. I hate to give up on this engine since the electronics are still good. I had it upgraded to proto 2 some time ago.
Good Afternoon,
Went to a small local show this morning with my son and Ray. Nothing really caught our eyes but I did pick up parts for a PW Lionel 2037 that I am resurrecting for a friend of mine. It has been in the family since 1953 and it was played with.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at York!
Enjoy the day.
Checked lake house to day and it survived the -15 temperatures last week.
Will be doing some traveling this week with Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Toledo, Lima and Akron on my tour. Great train stores in some of those places, but too busy to stop and some of them only sell to the unemployed and close at 5 pm.
Everyone have a great week!!
Good night all. Dogs and cat out and in. Chilly but above freezing. Suppose to be fair tomorrow. Hope to get some outside chores done. Maybe some Train Box time.
This afternoon's Legislative reception was a success. We all walked a mile. I had done 2 miles before I went. It was on Human Services and healthy attitudes.
8N, cubicles are not good. Had them one time for the whole office. Changed that real soon. Some of State Gov't still that way.
John, good to see you posting. Really missed you. Us Yankee fans have to stick together against the dirty "sox" guy. BTW: where is Jack?
Buckeye, safe travels. We have those store hours rigged to insure you do not goof off and reduce the SS $$ we get.
