Well today been a good relaxing day supper isn't to far off and I've been doing this and that on the puter have a few time gone onto ebay to newly listed O gauge trains to see what some got that don't want lol

Hope all have had a good day talk to you all later did have 4 of the 5 loops running trains at once today that was great

think I need to take the B&M GP-9 apart and give a real good cleaning and lubing as it doesn't run as fast as It should as mine as a kid would jump the track even with mag-na traction this one won't even come close at full throttle. So there a project coming up.

Good evening all,

Merry Christmas to all.  A good day as everyone made it here ok.   Great food and conversation made the day nice and the kids and grandkids all liked their presents.  The missus liked hers, which was a relief.  She got me a LEGO Halloween house, which I can use at the appropriate time of year and the rest of the year if slightly altered.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Dear Buckeye,

Before checking with the Chief about your behavior, I thought this year I would surprise you with a slightly used Lionel flat car with only one wheel missing, but then I checked.  Sorry, but the Chief's evaluation of the situation was worse than previous years, so I had to follow the rules and reduce you from three lumps to two.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

The high hit the mid-50s today and it was mostly sunny during the morning and early afternoon.  It became mostly cloudy and colder as the day progressed.  It didn’t matter much as I spent the entire day inside reading and playing with the youngest.  It was a wonderfully relaxing day.  The wife and I are watching Les Miserables tonight.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Snohizo and 26 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Easy day today.  No returns, but Wifey and I would like to go out and score a nice pre-lit Christmas tree for a bargain, later on.

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas.  Wifey outdid herself with her annual crabcake and ham dinner. Dinner  Fifey received a Dept 56 border collie w/sheep, a Lemax church, a Coventry Cove Village Volunteers fire wagon (there is a thin mustachioed fellow on the back that I already have dubbed,"Rich"), and some Margaritaville shirts.  Counting the scratchbuilt water tower, 19th century B&O boxcar, and the Gingerbread Junction set, I'd say the flanged goodies were well represented. YesCool

When the munchkin came over, he got halfway through his presents, when he insisted on going to see Pop's choochoos.  He didn't know I had wired all the accessories back up, and really put the MTH Fire Co, and K-line dozer and saw-tooth factory through their paces.  He received some pieces to go to his Thomas wooden train empire.

Morning all.  A surprise wakeup early this AM.  Freezing rain and then it turned to wet mist.  Sun coming out soon.

Wifey going west to the moonshine capitol of the world.  Wikes Co. NC to visit our friend Gail [who moved with USDA to GA] at Gail's Mom's.  Back tonight.

Going to get Boys and do Train Box later this AM.

Had early TWC Tech come and exchange Motorola DVR box out for a different brand that works [Motorola has always been trash from mobile radios, electronics and smartphones].

Good mornin' y'all from a chilly 20s and snowing Cape Ann Taxachusetts.  My apologies for recently being absent without leave from the POT.  Life got in the way.  Onward and upward!!!

As is our family tradition, Christmas Eve was held at our place; but the starting lineup was short one very special person for the first time in over a decade, my son-in-law's dear Aunt.  We lost her earlier this year, but life must go on.  What I will always remember fondly about her is that she was always full of good cheer and love, no matter what life threw at her.

My wife and I along with my son served up our traditional ham, home made vegetable beef soup (old family recipe), and all of the fixings. I had picked up a coconut cream pie and a chocolate mousse cake from a local bakery (man, they are disappearing) for dessert.....yup, my wife and I are not bakers.  I am glad to say everyone ate like wild starving animals, like they had not had a meal in three days. By this time the little ones were going berserk.  So we adjourned to the living room and then opened some presents.

The gang departed about 10PM because Santa was on his way, and the grandkids had to be all nestled in their beds.  Fat chance they fell fast asleep because when they left our place they were really wired, if you know what I mean.

My Pam likes to drag out the fine china (et al) for Christmas Eve, so cleanup must be done carefully and all by hand......no dishwasher assist.  However, team Rock Island eventually got everything cleaned up and put away by midnight, then relaxed by the fire for another hour until it was down to small embers.  Truth be told, I disappeared for a time into the living room and ran trains until the wifey asked that I take the doggies out for last call.

As also is our tradition, on Christmas Day Pam and I had to be at my daughter and SIL's house by 7AM Christmas morning to watch the grandchildren open Santa's presents. Bang Head

With high test coffee in one hand and the camera in the other, I did the best I could.  Yup, I am the family photographer. Then we had breakfast, what a spread!!!  We played with the grandkids into late morning, drove home, took care of the dogs, napped (coma), got cleaned up, and then headed back over to the daughter's for Christmas dinner.  Standing rib roast and way too many fixins!!!  Hors deuvres, dinner, desserts.  DEATH BY GLUTTONY!!

We didn't leave for home with the dogs until 9pm.  BURP, BELCH, GROAN!!!

When we got there, I laid down on the floor by the Christmas tree and did what I have done for so many Christmas Day eves since childhood......ran my trains.  This Christmas I scored the 1225 Polar Express from my daughter, son, and son-in-law this Christmas.  So there is finally a Berk in my exceedingly modest and small stable.  Granted, it not of postwar vintage, but it gets the job done and looks good doing it.

I hope that each of you were as lucky and at peace as I was this Christmas.  Yes, for me there was an undercurrent of serenity and joy.  But I also felt a tugging sense of sad nostalgia for my family and friends who are no longer with us, and for the many family members we could not be with back in the Midwest.  We spoke to many of them by phone Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but it is not the same.

In close, I hope that each of you had a joyous and memorable Christmas.  From reading the posts on the forum and looking at the pictures, it sounds like you all did.

As we move ahead towards New Years, I pray that each of us can embrace the mindset that the glass is always half full and that no matter what, God will watch over us and provide if we believe.

Merry Christmas, all. We are out on our annual holiday tour, currently in Michigan. Managed to miss having to travel in the ice storm that hit last Sunday, and we are fortunate enough to not have lost any power. Makes the plugged house drain here at mom's house seem like a minor problem. I'm waiting for the plumber to arrive as I write this. I got some good pictures of the ice in the trees that I'll post once I get to better web access. Cooked up a turkey and all the trimmings and took it to mom yesterday. She sure enjoyed the home cooking over the institutional stuff that she is served normally at her care facility. We have not visited for about three months, and she is sure happy to see us. The rest of our tour will take us to northwestern Indiana and Kentucky before we finally turn for home. 'Bout all for now.

Good evening all,

Quiet day.  Straightened the house up.  Worked on the Classics 384 E.   Runs some better.  Still not the best in the world.  Off to Indy tomorrow to visit some sites.  Maybe stop in at Train Express if there is time.  Went to see Walking with Dinosaurs.  Perhaps not the best movie made.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hmmm, new tablet eh?  I thought  that was something you used to buy for 5 cents in the old days to write letters on or take notes.  Also something that you find in an aspirin bottle.  I am being dragged kicking and screaming into the electronic age.  Still computer illiterate and  barely no how to use the cell phone.

Good evening all,

Had a nice Christmas with family for dinner and opening presents.  We had ham and scalloped potatoes with pies for desert.  I hauled the train things I got out to the garage this afternoon.  I got two new passenger cars heavyweights by Lionel and a new WBB U.P.GP30 diesel.  The passenger cars are the earlier ones with silhouettes in the windows and the bulbs are standard which are too bright for DCS with High voltage so will have to change to high voltage bulbs.  The GP30 runs great with horn, whistle and engine sounds.  Sound is plenty loud enough for me.  Some people say it is too quiet.

Holiday lunch tomorrow with my train buddies at 1:00PM then over here to run trains.  Feels like springtime here now with high of 80 today.

Getting ready to warm up left overs for dinner tonight.  Our live in younger son is out of town today.  He went to San Diego to see a college consolation bowl game. Forgot who was playing.  He will drive up the coast tomorrow and be back home around noon.

V8, enjoy your trip to Oregon.  I forgot to mention that I also got a book I have been wanting about Donner Pass over the Sierras and the history of the Southern Pacific Railroad crossing of the mountains.  Good book by John Signor, a conductor on the SP.  Maybe retired by now.  I have two of his other books.  One on Tehachapi and one on Beaumont Hill where I worked.

later,

Ray

Ray.....it is 55 degrees colder here.  I wear three layers indoors but add a sweatshirt and a winter coat with a hood when I go out with the dogs. The long term forecast for New Years Eve states we may be in the single digits!!!!

Due to icestorms and the resulting damage to power lines, hundreds of thousands living in NH, Maine, Vermont, and upstate New York are still without power; and the outage reaches up into Canada.

So I am packing my bags and my dogs and coming to live with you.  :-)

Konnichiwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It’s a rainy, dreary day today and the high is in the mid-40s.  Neither the kids nor I will do much outdoors today.  I have watched most of both bowl games and they were good games to watch.  The wife and older two kids have dentist appointments today and after that our schedules are open.  I think I’ll take the wife out for dinner tonight.

SP Ray – Your son was at the Poinsettia Bowl and it was a good one to watch.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 30 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Gearing up to head to Wild, Wonderful, WV.

Grandson was here all yesterday.  He brought with him a plastic battery operated train set, that we set up on the living room carpet.  He apparently likes staging "crashes" with his equipment.  Is there a reform school for this type of activity...?  Last thing Pops needs is a pint sized Gomez Addams running loose in the layout room. Jack, sorry about your cold weather.  We have relatives in New Hampshire too.  I'm sure they are getting aired out now.

This is not unusal to have warm weather like this in the winter here once in a while when the desert winds blow our way called Santa Ana Winds.  They used to say we get a whole new bunch of people moving out here after every Rose Bowl game when they see the weather.

Good Afternoon All.

Wow ! What a crazy couple of days. First was Christmas Day with all the friends and family here for gift exchange and glutony dinner. It went great especially since we have added a 3 and 6 year old plus their dad  to our extended family. It's always great to have little ones in the house this time of year.

Yesterday was our "Kid's Club Fun Run" at the museum, they run the layout for the whole day with new operators every hour. They were running 6 trains on the four mains, w/ DCS & TMCC. Unfortunately it didn't go as well as the last event, don't know if it was the Christmas cookies or Santa overload but they seemed to have a bit of a short attention span. Several big crashes and some electronic gremlins had some of the adults about to pull their hair out. It was still fun but exhausting. I didn't wake up til 8 this morning, after fixing coffee for the BetterHalf and another hen who came for a visit, I promptly fell asleep on the couch and slept from about 9:30 til almost 1 pm.

Jack, We have been doing these holiday feasts several times a year for decades and my initial mandate, since I do all the cooking, was all eating utensils are required to be disposable. It is tuff enuff just to clean-up the kitchen, cooking starts a day or two prior, and all the pots/pans/roasters/platters/bowls/etc is still a chore. If they were to decide otherwise I guess either the tradition would end or I would order pizza for delivery.

Got my L&N Heavy Pacific today. It is sweet ! Doesn't even look as if it has ever seen the tracks, no marks on wheels or p/u rollers and the price was a steal. Now the hunt begins for some L&N passenger cars, if I haven't found them by the Spring York I may request some Yorkie help.

Time to get moving, things gotta get done.

Later All.

p.s. Since it is a bit chilly back east :

Hello all,

Finally made it back.

A verrry nice Christmas was had here.

Mrs' bad wing made my duties much greater. She is doing well but can do little with her right arm.

Between Christmas helping Mrs and work I feel like a one armed paper hanger, Even though I'm on vacation til the 3rd I've been in the office three times this week. Haven't even considered musket hunting.

Fife.....in April at York I thought your retardment was in about a year??????? Be on the lookout for the Gomez syndrome

RI Jack. all Banks family gatherings switched to disposable several years ago. It's sooo much easier. By the way....how is you grandaughters numbers coming?

Mrs & I went to see Madeas Christmas last night........The projector broke with about 20 minutes to go and the gave us all a free pass. I'd rather see the end than start all over. That;'s how my December has been.

Best get to bed.....son is coming at sunup to haul the shi* out of the barn. (I'll beleive that when he gets here)

No time for trains

Prayers for those in need

Banks.......with your road trips you better have stock in an oil company.  Was glad you dodged most of the Winter weather's wrath.  My granddaughter was tested last week, first test since September.  The platelet count has continued to improve, and at a faster pace, but is nowhere near where it needs to be.  The Docs told us the plan in place---no meds, no transfusions, wait it out, let the immune system fix itself---should continue.  They want to retest her numbers in March.  They had hoped for more rapid improvement but are satisfied that thingsare moving in the right direction.  She remains at risk for internal bleeding, so we have to keep her activities in check in that regard, remain vigilant, and remain patient

Good day today, weather wise and otherwise.  Sun was out and that makes things nice.  Went to Indy to see the Lilly House at the Museum of Art and to the Indiana Historical Museum, primarily to see the Christmas displays.  Very nice.  Snuck a side trip to Train Express to drop off a transformer for repair and pickup some light bulbs.  Went to Oldenburg to see a retired former teacher of the girls, but she was unavailable.   Set up a small O-27 layout on two card tables to have a third train running in the house.  Found some more track and will enhance it some.  Going to see Lucas on Saturday.   Weather should be good then as well.   Chief, any soccer game is better than almost any movie, unless it is a movie about soccer.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
