Lehigh Valley 2089 Good morning. Eagle Scout Ceremony to go to today. Last day of which I'll be a legal member of the BSA since I'm turning 18 tomorrow. One problem, I can't find my Silver Eagle palm. But, apparently, I have earned two Gold Eagle Palms (the Silver Palm is higher than the Gold Eagle Palm). My dad was the Scout Master of our troop when I got my Gold Palm, but someone else took over before I earned my Silver Palm. Maybe just a mix up? As far as layout, plan on adding some more decals to my locomotives and cars today.

Good morning all!
I'm back from my trip to St. Louis. It was quite a trip. It was 10 hours there and back. When I walked into the house last night I guess I looked a litttle worn out and was a little hunched over my wife commented "you looked just like your father". You know, it's stuff like that that tells me I'm not 30 anymore. Or 40 or 50. It was a good trip though. The EM-1 was repaired and I came back with the ZW-L in tow.
After we tested my EM-1 on the store layout to make sure the aux. smoke unit was a-ok Bob, the proprietor of The Electric Train Outlet in St. Louis spent quite a bit of time with me going over the features of the ZW-L and how to set the thing up. I'm still going to take some time to read the operator's manual this morning and then see about getting this beast hooked up. This is the first "new" transformer I've ever owned beside the one I got for Christmas back about 1958.
I've also got to get caught up on all of yesterdays posts. Did I read above that somebody has a birthday tomorrow! An eighteenth birthday! Wow, that is big!. Happy Birthday LV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have the first snow cover of the year so this morning I took a hike to see if I could find some coyote tracks because we have been hearing them real close at night and early morning.
I did not have to go far back into the woods. About 170 yards out to the west of the house by the big ravine I found fresh tracks and scat. As DougM points out it seems they are moving into town to.
I may have to shoot some squirrel bate and set up a stand and sit with the SKS and see what I can get.

Aloha. Oh boy, my cold has gotten worse, didn't sleep much, but until I have to work at church this afternoon and tomorrow, I'll be able to rest. Looks like some sleet tomorrow night. Rearranging our monthly trip to the theatre then. Pat, speaking of coyotes: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-coyotes-break-window-in-attack-on-puppy-20130125,0,4241096.storyFound two nice videos of a CB&Q steamer going out to Baraboo (WI) and back in the 60s to pick up the Circus Train they use to bring into Milwaukee.

Today will be a lazy one. Tomorrow is a train show. Setup for the modular layout will be at 9 am. It will be in a school classroom so not very big and quick to get ready. My task for the day, helping granny decide what to fix for supper...S.J.

railhead53 Hey Kev, I saw yesterday you posted a picture of a woodpecker. I think it is a Pileated woodpecker! I like watching birds as well. I'm envious. I see Red Bellied and Downy woodpeckers around here, howerer, have never seen a Pileated woodpecker except in photos.

Bo, you are correct it was a Pileated woodpecker. We see them often here. They are huge and can get up to 16.5" tall with a wingspan of 29". Boy did he do a job on the Black Cherry tree he was on. One of the holes he put in it is about 3" accross and 2" deep and he was not here long. Wood chips all over under the tree. They seem to like the black cherry trees the best.
Quiet today with the granddaughter gone. Wife is still sleeping and I let the cat out only to find he had PUKED in the hallway. I hate to clean up puke, makes me want to puke. I hope that is the worse part of my day today.
Jimmy T. I would call that a burnup not a burnout. Wow!

Rich, Driving a 5 speed can be a tough thing to get down. It took me a while, and the fact that I was always afraid of killing the clutch wasn't helping either. What does she have trouble with? My biggest issue was the lack of feedback with a hydrallic clutch. Regarding burnouts, I got a deal on a set of wheels off an 06 GT that have Pirelli P Zero Neros wrapped around them. I go easy on the original wheels and tires, then put the 06 wheels on when I get that urge. Here is one of my favorite burnout videos. I saw Karen and her 2003 GT on Pass Time a few years back, and I don't think a more devoted Mustang owner exists. watch?v=zQTBmzajxpI Ryan, If you've ever seen any Tourettes Guy clips on YouTube, that was how I was during that oil change the other day.

Well, no snow today so kids had school and I went to work to support the SS funds. That ZW-L is super cool.... Hmmm..... Nice chat with the guys tonight. Just watched The Immortals, which was pretty good. It reminded me a lot of The 300. Rich - you are well out of it. I'm sure things will go your way now, man. Neat finds, Doug - I love stuff like that. TARDIS is ready and we have Old Mills, Yuengs, and Blue Moons if you like? We also have rootbeer, banilla (always) and some cake
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good Evening All!
A bit more than a dusting of snow tonight, but still cooooold!
Cathy had some friends and relatives (all girls) over tonight so it was off to my room for the evening, which is fine by me. One cousin of her's brought with her, her two little girls. Must have been ages four and seven. So after a while Cathy pokes her head into my room and says "Why don't you show the girls your trains". These two girls didn't stop smiling for the longest time. It really makes for an instant hit with the kids. (And their mom also).
Got the smoke signal from HudsonJohn today that he needed some help cleaning out his house and I was only too happy to help.

Rich, I have found the best way is just do what I did with Sandra, show her what to do drive around the block a few times and send her on her way. Just have enough ins. Kev - Since my income last year was so.....pitiful, it appears that I'll be able to get the filing fee waived, a $250 savings. We've been separated since August 2010, so this should be a no fault divorce. I have the paperwork filled out, just need the appropriate funds and off we go. Once the papers come back and I'm OFFICIALLY and LEGALLY single, my BIL will sign the title back to me. Once the Feds give me back my cut, then the fun begins..... A pitiful, income when going through a divorce is a GREAT thing, I was laid off on my second and boy did that save me a bundle in the long haul. Look at it as short term pain. Sounds like you have a workable plan.

jack I was just foolin with ya.....
I score more bonus points tonight . I JUST HAD TO RUN some trains!! so I rigged some feeders, and away we went, minus a bad switch we were up and running
I like SMOKE, so I cranked up some MTH steamers.
I made a MISTAKE when I did the basement. I thought about but never followed through with some bathroom vent fans, shoulda did it. Defiantly gonna have to do it in the new and upcomming room. One lonely little steamer pulling 15 cars smoked me right outa the basement. and almost HER outa the first floor. But I kept on running it, Darn was that just the best thing in the world.
So now she's really rooting for the relocate.......
Swapped out the munchkin with her dad at Menards in Morris. That way we split the drive.
My thoughts for the day, The joys of the second chance:
You know spending today alone with the granddaughter it came to me how much I missed with my own kids when they were her age and I was younger. Not that I was not there, but more that I did not have as much time to take it all in the first time around. Working, long hours, so many things to do and so many other distractions robbed me of a lot of their childhood and I never knew till now. Chasing the brass ring as my dad would say. I remember always hating the brass ring. I much better understand my own grandfather now who spent so much time with my brother and I after our mom got ill when I was 5 and passed when I was 6. I understand his patience, caring, attention to what we were doing and saying, thinking, spending time to just talk things out, show us things even if I had no clue what he meant and a lot of other details and now I understand more than ever why so much of him is now me.
You guys have a great night, I did not mean to rant.
I had a great day. Got my new CTT too.
I take no insult, Jack. I have a similar family in the Hemi Owners and the Fire Dept. There is a common thread, be it trains, Mopars or Fire Fighting.
I have a Hemi Owners meet in Johnstown, PA Memorial Day weekend, but I'll be back by Monday for the Memorial Day parade, albeit TOPLESS!!!
I'm gonna have to post the Fire Dept. Christmas layout video for ya, Jack....temporary like for 5 hours temporary....
SNOHIZO on the way home tonight, my 60 minute commute turned into a 90 minute thrill ride. 21F on the way home through the flakes, both from the sky and driving on the road. AH, sweet life...... and have to make the trip again on the morrow.....
Received my Atlas Golden Spike 2012 Bakers Chocolate car....it's RED!!! Waited a year for this one...Time to renew my Golden Spike membership next month.

Good afternoon all, it has been a quiet, lazy day with rain showers on and off all day. I have not ventured out to the train room/garage for that reason. I was out there yesterday and got the new spring installed from MTH on the front truck of my premier class J N&W steamer. Took about three tries to get it right since I couldn't remember how I took it apart. All is well now. Also got a new supply of traction tires in various sizes. I have tried the Bullfrog Snot but don't like it as well as the rubber tires. Will just use it on hard to get places.
Been meaning to call my relatives in Virginia and North Carolina about the weather. Looks like they might get a little snow. Chief did mention that they had some sleet I believe and one of my sisters lives not too far from him in Jacksonville, N.C.
Funeral for elderly lady in our church social group on Monday She passed away at age 96. She had a fall that caused head trauma and never regained conciousness. Too bad, she might have lived to be 100 or more otherwise. She had a pretty face and kept her good looks all those years. R.I.P Bea.
Noticed Lionel is coming out with a new transformer that will run four trains. Think there is a review in Bob's Train Box.
Have not heard from my friend who just put his wife in the nursing home on Wednesday. I have tried to call but we are just playing phone tag so far.
Does anyone know if the new WBB GP30 Atlantic Coast Line version is in the stores yet. I have not seen it advertised yet. I have seen the NYC and one other one but no ACL so far.
Got the new CTT today and getting ready to look through that. Looks like a good article on scenery by Kent Johnson.
OhayĆ,
I haven’t been outside yet, but it is extremely sunny. I believe today’s high is in the 50s. We don’t have much planned for today: the wife will go grocery shopping and I have schoolwork to do. We will also spend a few minutes rearranging the living room furniture as the table I built a couple weeks ago is now ready to come in the house. I stained it last weekend and since it was cool and humid, I wanted to make sure it had plenty of time to cure.
Sayonara,

I meant no disrespect to you or anyone else on the forum with my earlier post. It was intended solely to get a smile out of you or someone else here today, using a small bit of fact and a whole lot of journalistic license.
Life, its setbacks and disappointments, and the real world can crush us like a bug......if we let it.
I turned 62 last week and am a few laps around the track older than you. I have walked a mile in your shoes in so many respects. A lot of us here have. That is how we are able to relate to each other. Our connection just starts with toy trains..
But by the grace of God, with some luck, and with the help of others, I have somehow managed to get through each of my mud puddles and eventually come out the other side, still standing. And each of my mud puddles inevitably has been replaced by another. When that happens, I have to keep reminding myself of all that I have been given, all that I have survived, and then tell myself "This too shall pass."
Jack
PS: Don't forget, you also escaped "Purgatory" with your health and the MOPAR intact! Your Princess expects the latter to emerge from the depths of its ANJDEVIL RESTORATION and to be driving it later this year. Hope she burns about $800 worth of rubber off of it in the process so you can post !!!
