Yes he is pretty stressed out. I along with his other friends have tried to help in whatever way we can. I heard some more news about her condition yesterday. A mutual friend said the hospice people have been called in now on her case. That is a bad omen. Those people are not there to help you live, their job is to make you comfortable in your final days. It's strange, we had dinner with him on Sunday night and he did not bring it up. The mutual friend said she heard about it on the previous Friday. I guess, he assumed I knew or did not want to talk about it. Thanks for the prayers for them.
Jeffrey, for your preparations for the memorial service.
Got a call from my jazz band friend last night. He just got back from playing a 14 day cruise in the Caribbean. He said they only had to play about one hour a day. Must be tough! He is off again today to go to the O Scale West train show in the Bay area.
Rain is with us big time this morning but we need it. I should say, the state needs it on the watershed in the mountains in the form of snow. Most of it down here, just runs off and winds up in the ocean. Anyway, good for the lawn. Forgot to put a cover on my leaky old 87 Buick, Better do it as soon as I get a break. Forcast is for 4 more days of rain off and on. At least we don't have to shovel it.
V8, congratulations on getting your new toy smogged.

As for the direct opposite and totally contrary female observation (is there any other kind? What home improvement or addition will recover 100% of the total outlay when one sells their house? I believe the perennial and statistical answer is NONE!!! HOWEVER.....you have to ostensibly agree vigorously with the wife on the "value-added" observation on those additions when said expansion includes securing additional train space, garage capacity, workroom, and lawn/garden storage. Relocate the layout and the trains as the Chief has done with his BOX. Thats exactly what I have planned!! And then turn over the entire basemant to the wife, finishing it off with massive cedar closets. Have you prices Ceadar closet linings lately? Think you will be working until you are 85 to pay it all off. I'll be working to 85 regaurdless. Good morning,
It was 4 degrees when I left the house.
I left at 7:30 for Cat to get my new lenses for my two pair of frames. WOW $290.66 Hate to think what it would of been if I would of got frames to. Train budget is now till I can recover. It is going to take a day or two for my eyes to adjust to the new lenses. I feel like I am looking out of a fish bowl.
I need to fill out the paperwork and send it in to the Healthcare people to see if I will get anything back. Bet Not. I have not hit this years deductible
LV, good luck with those tests.
Chief, Ray and Bob I sent you PMs Thanks guys.
Have a good day.

Good Mornin’ Y’all From Balmy 4 Degrees Cape Ann Taxachusettes,
I think BOC is on the top of the leaderboard when it comes to the lowest daytime temperatures during this collective Winter cold snap. We dropped to 1 last night, high teens today with clear skies, and back down to 6 overnight tonight.
Jeffrey.......my prayers continue for you and your Dad while you work together to make the arrangements for your Mom’s service. Be patient, especially with your Dad. Emotions are raw. I am sorry you have to experience the same frustrations I did with the details and the inexplicable and unacceptable snags, leaving you with little time to grieve.
DougM.......thank you for that heads up on the Chicago fire that required one third of the entire CFD to get it under control. With the single digit temperatures, the working conditions and dangers had to be beyond brutal. In the initial reports we got out here, only one firefighter was reported as injured.....from a fall (ice related), and his injury was serious. Prayers for our safety workers who put it on the line for us, NO MATTER WHAT!!
HudsonJohn.......was sorry to hear your Mom had to extend her treatment into this week. Hopefully she is at the finish line with this regimen. Ava Marie is a family blessing who hopefully is adding the major distraction your Mom needs right now.
KEV.......at the risk of being repetitive, was sorry to read about Blase. How many of us put important stuff off and then wind up looking back and wishing we hadn’t. My Dad used to tell me over and over that in life we wind up regretting the things we did not do when we could, not the things we did try but suffered setback.
LV..........good luck with the admissions test tomorrow. Gas up the car today. Lots of sleep tonight. Eat well in the morning. Leave the house early and get there early due to Murphy’s Law. And just relax as much as you can during the test. You will do fine. A or six afterwards.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
wrconstructionBo and Anjdevil2, I looked online at the pre fab 2 story garages, they are nice, but from the pics it looks like head room may be an issue on the second level. theres a shed showroom a few miles from here, gonna go see one first hand this weekend. BUT..... I ran the numbers by the treasurer last night and it was moderatly well recived for the attached 2 story garage. which I would prefer as well. I sorta left out how big it is intended to be........ thats gonna be the deal breaker I see it and I hear it...... WHY DO YOU NEED ALL THAT SPACE? This comming from some one who has 20 some trash bags full of clothes that even if she ever COULD fit into again they went out of style in 1979. Ryan

RYAN......I am comforted by your post and the fact that there is total consistency in life when it comes to wives. I feel normal and accepted. I don't feel isolated and alone, where no one understands me. I feel like part of the mainstream.
In addition to the several 40 gallon contractor bags filled with clothing she has not worn since George HW Bush was president, my wife has laid claim to three (count 'em, 3!) bedroom closets AND about 2/3 of the six foot front foyer closet. Her excuse rationale?

We have bright sun and 14 degrees. 20 will be it for today.
RI Jack I will trade you a hand full of loose yard trash for 1 grill cover. Ok 2 hands full to be fair. A nice chat with some of the Pot guys last night and no outdoor plans for today. We had a cold morning breakfast, of oatmeal(won't grind your teeth away) 1 wheat toast and some melon. Sounds healthy, how disgusting LOL. ...S.J.

So the wifey gets the bright idea that Maximus the dog needs a new Winter coat because the old one doesn't fit him and it is so cold outside. It takes longer to put the stupid coat on him than the actual out-and- back-in time. Me? I think it is better that he comes to the realization that the sooner he stops looking for the evil bunnies on his turf, stops getting distracted by the insane birds that are out in this weather, and takes care of his business, the sooner he gets back in to the warmth of the house. Another shocking observation......the wifey is perfectly fine sitting in the warm house and with me handling the dog walking chores.
On the topic of the frigid temperatures and the remote start feature you can get as an option on your car.... ...to warm up the vehicle before heading out........I have one of these on my wife's car. The option is called RI52.
SJ.......you and then the others had me laughing my axx off with your brilliant observation about the enigma: plastic bags and debris that always seem to accumulate/inexplicably gets stuck in one's yard due to the wind. If one tried to manually replicate this phenomenon 500 times you couldn't do it. The plastic bags would find their way back out of the yard 100% of the time.
Last night in the dark while pulling into the driveway with the wifey, in the single digit temps with the wind gusting above 25mph, my wife observes "Jack, what is that big black thing sitting in our front yard? I think our grill cover blew off (grill in back of house off deck)." It sat there with absolutely nothing to impede it from travelling onward and out of my yard. Then the wifey scurries into the warmth of the house faster than a scalded Cheetah with a lion chasing it, along with the dog who seemed startled she coulf run that fast .
Sure enough, KENMORE was printed in big white letters on the object, and I have a KENMORE gas grill. So I dutifully grab the cover and start making my way around the side of the house toward the back, only to discover a second black grill cover with the exact same inscription. Huh? When I get to the back, I further discover that my grill cover is sitting firmly in place on my grill. Now I have three of them.
I think I will be a good neighbor and check with the adjoining families to see who the covers belong to.......after swapping out mine which is faded from the sun and has a tear in it.
Another cold morning in south cetral PA.
Hudson, I just can't stomach Ice Cream in the Summer, But in the winter, Im good for a gallon plus a week.
V8 in RE to emissions and inspections, IN PA they just recently started emissions. we always as long as I've been driving had the safty inspections. as much as I hate them, I do agree with them. When I lived in Ohio a while back there were no inspections..... people driving around with no doors and hoods, every intersection, all you heard was metal on metal brakes. There was a guy I knew out there whos pick up truck cab mounts were completly rusted out and he had the cab of his pickup truck held to the frame with a ratchet strap. scray stuff

Good morning. It's 57° with 100% humidity with patchy fog. It'll be cloudy with a high of 72°.I can't imagine why so many are complaining about the weather today. It's almost like a nice spring day here. Nothing special planned for today. Last night just for the heck of it I fitted a second headlight lens into a Bachmann FT shell. Just another of those strange things I do for fun.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a cold 18 degrees. Going up to 27 today. We got about a half an inch of snow last night.
Today is a busy day. Wife is grocery shopping. I am doing chores around the house. Then, we put the groceries away and have lunch. And then, I can relax and take a nice nap.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Thursday.

AF53RockIsland52JoeyD, AF Ray and HudsonJohn......the significance of this weather is simply this. It is a sign from the almighty powers above (on the very day you received your 2013 opening day baseball matchup, Red Sox versus the Yankers) that it will be a cold day in hell before the Yankers ever again top the Red Sox for the AL pennant. Jack .............Guess where it's cold tonight?

Mornin' boys. 2-hour delay worth of SNOHIZO on the ground this AM. In other words, a dusting. Grandtoddler coming today, and Fifepops set up the old Thomas table and wooden tracks for playtime.
Good morning.
Guess what? Cold again. Temps 'bout the same as yesterday. 5 degrees around house and 2 to 3 in town. Don't know what wind chill would be though.
P.S. Thanks for wishing me luck on the placement tests. They start tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., so I would have to leave at about 7:00 in the morning in order to make it in time.

Konbanwa,
We had unseasonably warm weather today. The high ended up in the mid-50s which does not sit well with me. I know most of you are not fans of the cold weather, but I enjoy it very much. I took care of many tasks at work today so hopefully my Friday will not be as busy as the past four or five. The wife went out to dinner tonight with some friends so the kids and I had leftovers. I don’t have much else planned for the evening.
Jack – The Yankees aren’t the team that went 86 years without a World Series championship. I’ll sleep well knowing they will probably win many more in my lifetime. I'm not sure you can say that.

Hello all
Got home late tonight after helping our mechanic out w/ a plumbing issue after I got up.
Jack - the bathroom he smokes in is inside the bedroom. Best part, since I was in his normal room, he's in my room this week What can I do except get some febreeze
Jim - saw a red mustang on the way home tonight and thought of you
Chief - thanks for the offer. This one works, just needs a $3 regulator upgrade.
Supposed to have one more warm day. Hope to get the bike frame painted tomorrow/today.

Wow - skipped a day and so many posts! Those huge garages are nice, but mine would have to be on stilts with my back yard, lol! Nice chat tonight with the SJ, Charlie and Doug - no world problems solved, but we are working on it Kids were back to school today after the holiday and then a teacher development day. My disney submarine car (NIB) shipped and I need to send the key I got for my hornby engine back with a note as they sent the wrong size - it said 2mm but this one is too big. They responded to send it back and tell them what I need and they will ship me the replacement. Now I just need an envelope! It did get warmer here today, but back in the freezing temps tomorrow. Then up and down until next Tuesday, with maybe storms tomorrow night and on the weekend. TARDIS is ready and we have banilla, cookies, rootbeer and Diet Pepsi. Let's go!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good night all.
LV2089 - Best of luck on the placement exams. Hope you do well!

Temperatures here are in the teens at night and about freezing during the day.
I noticed that the vacation nomesdid not show up at work while I was on vacation over the weekend - not much got done. Even had to follow up and kick start (restart?) the stuff that I had delegated....
On the train front, I have washed the shell on the 4-6-2 steamer and installed a new traction tire. It is looking pretty good and runs OK. Last night, I got into the tender to see why the whistle was not working. Cleaned the contacts in the power truck and the whistle started working. Washed the tender shell while it was off - it really cleaned up too. All that is left to do is to clean the rust off of the side rods and reassemble them. I noticed that there is not an on/off switch for the smoke unit, though there are cast in lugs in the shell to mount one. I'll put that on the project list.
All for now.

Hudson#685LV: Good luck with your placement exam.
Thank you!
Anyway, getting late. Heading to bed. Good night.
Hudson#685Houses and Wives: Since all of these home improvement channels popped up my wife's favorite saying when she wants to do something around the house is that it will increase the resale value. My answer is why, I am not planning to move. She just says that we will see.
Good Evening from the frigid Jersey Shore. I just took a reading from the digital thermometer and it read 4.3. I thought naw so I took a reading with my infrared thermommeter and just like i thought it was wrong, this one read 4.2.
Ryan: My wife at her Ice Cream Shop has customers that come in and buy as much as they do in the winter as the summer. It is one of those things.
LV: Good luck with your placement exam.
Buckeye and Chuck: Please wait until Friday afternoon when I am done taking Mom for her treatments before firing the Snohio Cannon. Some might drift East. The word must have got out for they are predicting a snowfall for us.
AF53: You need that Dieasel!!!! You watched Thomas the Tank Engine too much using the kids as an excuse, just like we all did!
Submmbob: Good luck with the smoker.
RIJack: After what you told Bob, don't let me get on your bad side. As with the batteries, you are a lot like me with preventive maintenance. I have AAA that I never use.
SPMan, Ray, rub it in with the pool.
SJ, Bo, Kev: My theory with plastic bags and fences. The fences are like fish nets and the bags like to feed on metal, plastic and wood. Like Kev said take the fence away. Now the bags have nothing to feed on.
Houses and Wives: Since all of these home improvement channels popped up my wife's favorite saying when she wants to do something around the house is that it will increase the resale value. My answer is why, I am not planning to move. She just says that we will see.
Prayers and Thoughts for all that are in need.

KEV, I'll try and go by tomorrow afternoon after meetings and lunch and get that shipped out to you. You want it all or what amount? Thanks Chief, I sent you a PM.

Back down to 9 degrees here in Towanda, expect it to continue to lower.
railhead53 SJ, now that you raised the question, a good one at that, I don't know. There must be a scientific explanation though. The same phenomena has occurred in my back yard, I just never thought to ask the question. Is there a scientist in the house? In the meantime, until an answer is found I guess I'll just keep going out back to pick up those darn plastic bags.

"Is there a scientist in the house?" "In the meantime, until an answer is found". No scientist needed, Just take down the fence and they will blow away..
The DirecTV went out today = 1/2 hour on the phone with some twerp that makes it all sound easy,,,,,,, to him. Running now but I think their box blew the cable hook up because I had to switch to the plug in hook up to make it work but when I hook up the DVD player it works fine on the cable to the TV. I just did not want to fight with the guy.
All new table pre painting is done. Looked at getting another bridge like I have and WTH $175.00 on evil bay for a pre-war Lionel 315,,,,,,plan B. I have lost all respect for modern Lionel accessories. I have a set of Mainline Auto Crossing Gates 6-14098 that can't have 6 hours on them and one has blew out the gearbox for the gate already. I need to add it to what is becoming a long list of bad stuff.
Going to light a fire and relax. Good night.
Back from Applebees and Lowes Foods. Cold but not as cold as above the M&D.
Got the SD70 M2 Leagcy now lashed up to the other three NS big diesels pulling a long line of loaded coal cars. KEV, they smoke gooood.
Probably no posting until tomorrow afternoon. Got early Human Services meeting in Raleigh, visit some centers in southeast Raleigh and then lunch with one of the Human Services employees.
No workout for a few days. Trainer says you have to take a break and let body repair and then stress it again. Then you build. I can hardly walk down stairs or steps. Up is not so bad. Shoulders are beginning to show some stiffness. Did side to side squats holding big straps, deep squats with straps, pushups with the straps and lifted a heavy kettlebell weight by doing squats [do not bend your back or arms, just in the waist and knees]. I did 5 sets along with some young ladies that have been training for sometime. Not fair.
Now some Tylenol Arthritis [CVS brand].
Then some TV and popcorn.
