Back from Chamber dinner. Free meal but what a pain. You have to know our Chamber. All party and no work.
The Box is getting a new Trane mini-split heat pump tomorrow morning. Yes, the old one that came with the Box is a junky off brand thing. Had to put a heat gun on it the other morning to keep it from freezing up. Went out at 10:30 after it had warmed up and it was in defrost. The copper lines and wiring are all new. So my buddy is just taking up the old compressor and putting down the new. Taking out the wall unit and putting in the new. Charge her up and away it goes. BTW: it is only a 1 ton [wasn't keeping the heat up and running all the time] and the specs call for a 1.5 ton [which he is installing]. Also we found a leak in the outside unit. Also will have a warranty.

My Chief and Captain are all on allert. If he escapes this time, their heads are on the "chopping block". I went one step farther. I issued an executive order [if the Pres can do it, so can I, probably more legal than his ]. Outlawed all S&ME trucks and engineers in Town Limits. Immediate arrest.
Now for popcorn and diet ginger ale.

You can leave IE installed and just use Firefox. Erasing IE shouldn't be a problem though. I used to have IE, Chrome, and Firefox installed on my laptop and used each of them for different things.
Kev,
Somehow I went all season with no pileups. Given how tight things were, I am not sure how that happened.
SJ,
I know what you mean about AF being touchy. I polish all metal wheels and contact springs until they shine, and that really seems to help.

Jeffrey, In my freshman year I read "The Raven" and "The Dark, Blue Sea" by Byron in two poetry competitions, guess I wasn't theatrical enuff because I didn't win either one. If it were to happen today there are no winners or losers, everybody gets a trophy.
Jon, Getting back home is the best part of a vacation, especially when grandkids are waiting.
Kev, Fife probably has some photos, or links, of some cool stonework bridges.
Volunteered to work the museum's booth at the WGH show the second weekend of Feb. Great chance to meet and talk trains with folks, you'd be surprised at how many locals don't know about it. The new director has made some real strides in getting us more exposure, probably the biggest was the cruise ship terminal.
Time to check out the leftovers for tonite's dinner.

Evening, guys...
Been a long day.....found out a friend's mom died, so I've been calling every one in our little group. Talked to one friend in Arizona, haven't spoken in 25 years. Another in Arkansas almost 20. Viewing is tomorrow. 2 of the 5 of us will be there.
Been trying to get my laptop back in action, seems to be working so far....I have a question for JimmyT...Can I erase IE and just keep Firefox? Too much going one with IE....
Warmer today, in the 40's. Still gray, though. Under flood watch now until tomorrow night.

Looks like we've got storms coming across east Texas and it's already windy here. In fact it's been windy most of the day. It's been running from 10 to about 35 mph. The local weather guesser says 90 to 100% chance of rain then likely fair weather through to Monday night. We'll see. Since when can the weather man predict the weather much less the future.I have a new project in mind. I've been tossing around an idea to put an SW1200 cab on a large geep, say something like a GP40 and do a few other things to it.Expecting relatives to arrive from out of state tomorrow for the memorial Friday.Well, time to call it a night and hope for the best with the weather. See y'all tomorrow.

Low 60's and thunder this morning. Rained to some extent all day, with the temperatures slowly falling. The Kansas City TV stations are yaking about when the rain is going to turn into snow sometime tnoight.
I worked a little on the #610 Eire switcher last night. Took the shell off and gave the running gear a quick once over with the contact cleaner. I pulled the armiture out of the motor, cleaned the gear train, commutator, wheels, contact rollers, and applied fresh lube. Put it on the test track and it was happily pulling 8 cars. I washed the first layer of grime off of the shell with warm water, a little dish detergent and a toothbrush. I'll need to wash it one more time. Other than some storage rust, this one looks to be in pretty good shape.
A question for you gun owners out there. The steps and hand rails on the front and back of this locomotive are blued steel, but on this one, they are rusted. Would a gun bluing kit be a good way to restore them?
All for now.
OhayĆ,
I was up early this morning to enjoy a brief two-mile run and then a quick weight training workout at the gym. It’s sunny, clear, and a little bit warmer today. The great thing about it being clear is you can see the top of Mt. Fuji which is pretty neat. I have no major tasks at work today and we’ll be at the firing range this afternoon which is always fun.
Jim – Thanks for posting the cool video.
SJ – I hope your face feels better soon.

How's this schedule?
Phoniex -- yesterday AM, "cool" temps of mid 60's when we left, whimps in AZ Seriously, they spent 90 minutes Sat. night on TV complaining about 1.3" of rain .............. Flight to Denver, easy schmeazy w/snow upon arrival and 36, YES!
Left Denver this morning via our car -- home w/winter storm warning for later tonight, YES YES YES!!!! We really need the moisture desperately.
So very good to be home, where the Heart is. Family here this weekend with the GRANDKIDS

Got my TCA card today, you guys have a year to nix me out of the fold. I am looking at the train INS they offer, it seems better than State Farm's best offer.
Still in the high 50s and thunder storms in January??? Al Gore may be right.
Left the truck out in the rain to get nature's soft water rinse and took the truck into the shed and wiped off the mess. Now I can't drive it till everything is frozen.
WOW the wife is doing dinner,,,,,,,, I have her crud!!
The wife's crud is now in me good. I am going to eat and hit the bed.
Hope Y'all feel beter than I do.

My flyer never seems to run good unless I clean wheels and track first. Not knocking it, I have some but it would be nice to just flop down some track and see the trains go. My surgery is very sore, more so than the past ones but I know it will pass. Plus being near my eye may be part of it. I will stay up for the thingy ride but banilla will have to wait in the freezer...S.J.

seems I fixed some what of the issue on the o-42 switches, the trip pins or plungers or what ever there called on the couplers of a few cars where hanging real low, catching the center rail on the switches.
a little filing on the points and some fine tuning is in order and i think we have something. still wishing I had went 0-72 minimum........
off to diner I think a big fat steak is in order, been eating ham sandwiches and chicken wings for for the last week straight . need some RED meat

Jan. 29, 1845 The famous beginning, "Once upon a midnight dreary..." is seen in print for the first time, as Edgar Allan Poe's haunting poem "The Raven" is published in the New York Evening Mirror. The 18 stanzas brought Poe worldwide fame, if not fortune, and it remains one of the most popular poems in history.

Thanks for the video JimmyT. I will show it to the wife tonight. She DID see your Christmas layout photo. But the impact really hits home with the video and a zillion dollars of trains a'runnin. " Gee, Pam, why are you sweating? Are you nervous or something?

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Good afternoon guys. Woke up to a gray and rainy morning. Suppose to get up into the low 40's today. Worked on putting together a couple of wooden crossbucks for crossing, a simple little project and then went to laying down some ballast in a yard area. Talked to Lionel about a missing front headlight lense on my recently repaired EM-1. They are going to send me a replacement which is much appreciated.
SJ - glad the visit to the the Doc went well!
Kev - regarding the weight of the "beast", the carton it came in says 29 lbs. By curved bridge, are you thinking of making a trestle? That would look pretty cool.
Prarietype - yes, it is nice not to have to get out. Retirement is a good thing!
Jeffrey - nice rust effect on the gondola in the photo you posted. I use to weather my equipment when I was into HO, but have not gone there since getting involed in O gauge.
John - ditto on the retirement thing! Don't feel to bad for Chief about the lunch cancellation, he's still got that Chamber dinner tonight to look forward too! With regard to pleading the fifth about how much train stuff we have, it is probably to late, but a good idea all the same.
V8Vega - glad you found the antenna. You are so right about how useful the computer can be. The same thing applies to finding out things about our hobby. I would not have accomplished nearly what I have if it were not for what I have learned on the computer. I mean detailed stuff that I just don't know if I would have found the info anywhere else.
Doug - hope the dentist appointment went well. Hate getting a crown, but it's better than the alternative.
Ryan - 1" of rain is better than 1"-4" of snow which is what they are predicting for here tonight. Actually, it has been so dry we really need the moisture.
LV - "and you can probably guess what it is about." No what? No just kidding. Can you tell us something about what you are planning to put together. I hope you'll consider sharing the finished video with us.
Mike - sorry to hear about the PT and the cost to get running again. Enjoy running the trains tonight!
Well, guys it has been kind of a slow today. I don't feel that I've been all that productive. Think I'll help out by doing the dishes and then take a short nap! On a day like today I think Chuck has got it right. Later. Bo

Good afternoon all,
It is mild but windy in SE Indiana with temps in the 60s. Did nothing at all last night. May run trains tonight. Long day today. Computer is bad on PT. Another $500 to get it running. Took the truck again today. TBIL and I can drive after "The New Normal". I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good afternoon.
Raining outside now. Looks very heavy.
As far as homework goes, next to none to do. I just need to take some pictures for a video editing project, and you can probably guess what it is about.

Banks,
Yes, they'll send you a renewal notice, then a "final" notice if need be. They remind me of WQED when it comes to wanting money..
I couldn't help but notice that you still have a large amount of unused floor space...
Ryan,
Those O42 switches are the same as the modern "O22"s. My "fix" for the two is the same.
Jake,
Still waiting by the phone. Also waiting on a box from Malvern, then three boxes tomorrow from Roush. Got a very good deal on front brakes (calipers, brackets, pads, and rotors) that are new takeoffs from a '12 GT. I hope those 13.2" rotors will fit inside the stock 17" wheels.
Oh, to whoever mentioned Cooper tires, look at other brands. I got 13K out of a set of Cooper Lifeliners before they needed to be replaced. Cooper is right behind Pirelli for tires that I don't like. Neither is cheap.
boy, this turned into a slow day. got all my paper work in by lunch, our "yard went from a sheet of ice to a swamp, cant win
think i'm taking wife out to dinner tonight and then some train running is in order i think (hope)
tommorow is calling for 1" of rain. fun stuff
at least this warmer weather today allowed me to let the stove burn out so I can clean the ashes out.
66 degrees out there and no rain yet. I opened up the shed so the slab can get some of this heat and checked the operation of the basement sub-pump just in case we get all of the rain they are talking about.
SJ, I am glad everything went well. Don't take the patch off too soon, we don't want your brains running out.
Banks, Lots of night vision hunting of the coyotes here.
dougdagrump Kev, If you haven't really settled on bridge design/config what about building your own using something like this. Photos ain't the best but it kinda conveys the idea. http://www.choochooauctions.com/cgi-bin/ua/item.pl?item=109876 .

Doug DG, Thanks I have been thinking of making one of the bridges. I am going to use a pre-war Lionel 315 against the wall but where the train will pass out by the front the track will be sections of 42" and 72"R curved so I need a cruved bridge. I don't think I have ever seen a curved bridge but I may give it a try. Something like this. If I can do it. I have a lot to learn.
BTW I have never been a big fan of Cooper tires. They don't seem to wear long.

Hello all,
Never made it back this weekend. Tried to sign in yesterday and I couldn't. Must've been that maintenance thing. Never got around to taking the tree down either, there’s always tonight.
Lehigh Happy Birthday Even bigger Congas on Achieving Eagle.
I made it as far as Life and started concentrating on enjoying myself although I stayed with Scouting until I resigned as COR When I started getting Grandkids.
Sub Bob never heard of a “re-conditioned” battery. What did it do to the car?
Charlie NICE TRACTOR. I agree with 8N on the PTO. I’ve experienced the panic of pushing in the clutch and the tractor keeps on moving
I am constantly amazed at the number of people that can’t drive a stick.
California has beautiful blondes with bikinis. Why is it their top Senator and House member are to two ugliest ladies in Congress? GOOD one CHIEF
Speaking of Guns ……… Did ya hear about the biggest Gun Show in PA. They banned the display & sale of “Modern Sporting Weapons" and big clips. Over 200 vendors backed out and they canceled the Show
Coyotes are becoming a nuisance here too. The PA Game Commission won’t admit to it but all there is evidence they were reintroduced here by them. There is open season on them here but no bounty. Shoot ‘em every chance we get around here. (which isn’t often) They usually don’t come out during daylight.
Hudson Prayers for your MOM
Fife I was beginning to wonder about you & Laz and you popped in.
Sayyyyyyyy….will the TCA send me a renewal notice?????????
Sir James..... Glad everything went OK
Best get busy

Thanks guy's , I'm home with a big patch next to my left eye. Still got my good looks though.. Chief only females take showers in a month that has an R in it...S.J.
Mornin' All.
Brrr, really heavy frost this morning.
SJ, Hopefully before he starts carving he doesn't start holding a picture of Walter next to you.
John, I personally haven't used it but Rich B. who does the "Black Diamond" series of CD's uses the MTH ScaleTrax and it really looks great. He also uses some little tricks that seem to improve performance and appearance. As far as the turnouts I know nada. My preference is Atlas especially if you can locate enuff of the steel track which they discontinued . However, their turnouts can be problematic sometimes if they haven't increased the wire gauge on the jumpers. Best news though is it sounds like your Mom is doing good.
John, I'm leaning towards a set of Cooper tires for the truck, the current Goodyears are/have been the noisiest tires I've ever had.
Hopefully it will warm up enuff so I can do a little yardwork after my visit to the dentist and finally get my permanent crown.
Chief, A shower ? It ain't saturday yet.
Later all
Good Morning, 40 and overcast at the Jersey Shore!
Just spent $735.00 including mounting, balancing, valve stems, taxes, etc on a set of Good Year SRAs for the Explorer. I have them on my truck and they have over 65,000 and they are holding up great. the new thread pattern is different and we shall see. The Continentals did not last 40,000 on it. The Michelins lasted 98,000.
Kev, Ryan: I plead the fifth when it comes to how much trains and related things that I have.
Chief: We have the bug going around here too. Too bad your lunch was cancelled.
Goofing off and playing with the trains today.
Retirement is GREAT!
John
SJ, Good Luck with the procedure!
Morning all. Back from good workout. Now for a shower. Sunny and going into the 70's. Yes!!! And tomorrow too but windy tomorrow with a storm front. Then the temps drop again. Up and down, up and down. No wonder everyone is sick. Meeting at lunch canceled. Got Chamber dinner tonight. Never mind.
sir james I Temp is 39 with lots of heavy rain overnight. I will be leaving soon to see to guy with the Exacto knife. Enjoy your day..S.J.
