Time for me to call it a night. I thought I had found an emergency supply of insulin. Upon check the date on it I found it had expired in 2010. No way am I using that. The lack of insulin doesn't bother me greatly. I can control the levels through diet though it makes for a fairly bland diet. The ting that bugs me most is not having the meds to control my nerve reactions. I have a hard time holding onto little things and keeping my hands steady, well as steady as I can. I don't dare work on anything electronic. One twitch and there could be an inch long line of solder across the workDead. Same thing for working on something with sharp edges. I don't use things like X-acto knives and razor saws unless I absolutely don't have a choice. I usually find a way around using them. Those worn down Dremel disks come in quite handy. I have pillows placed along the wall side of my bed so I don't kick the fire out of the wall when one of my legs twitch while I'm asleep. I kicked it so hard one time the DVD rack pulled loose of the wall and I woke up covered in DVD casesBlack Eye. That's when I started placing pillows along that side of the bed.

See y'all tomorrow.

Jeff and BoC - prayers for good health.

Just got home a little while ago.  Today was a Guy Day - son and I went to see Promethius.  My Dad met us at the theater, too!  He was doing very well.  The movie was great, but it's a different movie than the old Alien movies.  Actually, I remember when the first one came out that Scott had wanted to have a pyramid and all this stuff in it, so I guess he finally got his chance Thumbs UpThumbs Up  We tried to treat Dad to dinner, but he had other plans, so Kev and I went to Five Guys for burgers, then to Gamestop as he had money burning a hole in his pocket.  He talked me into it, so we then went to see the movie The Amazing Spiderman, which was really great.  I really expected to be disappointed, as I liked the Toby McGuire movies.  However, this one was really great - just a good old comic book story with all the action and teenage drama.  We loved it!

SJ - hope you got my email and did not wait up.  We'll set the way-back circuit and come get you a few hours ago Smile  TTFN!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Howdy, Boys!

Was up into the 90's again today.  Only worked til 1030 this morning.

I won a bar-b-que meet and greet with Bruce Driver and Grant Marshall, late of the New Jersey Devils hockey club.  Took my sisters and brother in law.  Bar-b-que food was awesome, and the NJ Devils alumni spoke with us personally about their time with the Devils and hockey in general.  Was a great time.  Got a photo with NJ Devil (mascot), Bruce, Grant and myself and my guests.  Left with a 2 hats, a t-shirt and a signed David Clarkson puck.

Been busy at work, which is normal.  They are doing their best to try to retain me, but I've been looking for another employer.  I have a sit down later in the week with the little e, but I need to get out of the parents house and into my own.  And the pay I receive is just not enough.  My benefits kicked in and that helps.  Now I can go get my glasses/contacts and my physical done.  While this is all good, the money is just not there.  We shall see....

Drama continues as my ex "butt" called me.  I asked her, via text, if she wanted anything, which was no, then continued to tell me her new boy friend has cars, a Harley and a sailboat.  I suppose it was to make me jealous.....While my existence here is humble, I have my friends here (yeah, youse giz) and in town/fire dept. and have saved 2 lives recently, my family and all support me in many ways.  So, while I'm poor in possessions, I am rich with family and friends, neither of which, by my ex's own actions, she has.  And I have been rewarded, many times over.  So, thanks, dudes!

I think I'll wander over to Mickey D's, I'm hungry and its after midnight.....lol and I don't feel like cooking....might wake up the parental units....

See ya later today......Thumbs Up

Good Mornin Ya'll From Hot and Steamy Cape Ann Taxachusetts,

Another sauna-like day today like many of you.

Before bed last night once the outdoor temps had dropped to the low 70s, and then again early this morning......I turned on the whole house fan to evacuate the hot air which is in the attic to start the day.  This fan was the largest I could get.

The fan is variable speed with 30" blades, mounted in the ceiling of the second floor hallway.  It pulls cooler air into the house through open windows and pushes the cooler air into the attic, then pushing the hotter air out the peak and soffit attic vents and cooling down the attic structures as well.  Has louvered slats that open and shut with the air flow.

Evacuates 2,400 sq ft house estimated once every 3-4 minutes (?).  Moves 5,200+ cubic feet of air per minute on the highest speed setting of about 700rpm.  Draws 5 amps and runs on 120 volts.

After venting the attic (insulated R24), I then close the windows and crank the A/C to bring the temps in the house to 72-76 degrees while reducing the humidity to a comfortable level.

These suckers are sturdy too.  My fan is 24 years old and except for a failed wall switch has needed no maintenance.  On the 70-80 degree days I can get away without running the A/C, opening the windows on the cooler and shaded North side of the house.

Another unadvertised advantage of this fan is its ability to quickly evacuate house smells and smoke due to my incineration of foods while cooking. DinnerWhistling

Good morning. It's 81° with 84% humidity. There's a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be 92° but will probably feel like 104°.

I feel better today than I did yesterday. However the nerve problems are still present so I won't be doing any layout or model work today. My sister and I will be going to town for lunch. I'm really looking forward to that.

Good Sunday Morning to all!

I don't know as it seems something new comes up each night lately. Started putting up new shelves for my "old toys" but home depot ran out of the brackets I need so it's about 75% done.

Also waaaay too much drama at work this week as I watch from afar between the Mayor, Administrator and a department head. Not getting involved with this one for sure. I like keeping quiet and just doing my job.

Yanks have taken two from the Angels and are starting the second half nicely. Our next game is Monday night against the Blue Jays. Seems like all of a sudden our division doesn't look like it's the strongest. Although noone is under .500. Go figure.

HudsonJohn - Didn't mean to avoid you and not respond, just busy and not catching up reading your post's. Yes it is clockwork and it is at your house by now. I believe? Ill try and swing by tonight.

Chief - The box is looking real nice! What size shelving did you use?

Later

Hi GUYZ,

Very humid here but did take WIFE and MINNIE for an easy slow 3 miler this morning at the NED SMITH LANDs.  Humid but at least it was in the shade.  Today not much happening just wash day and the folding laundry.  Went to KIA dealer had the Jeep and Grand Prix appraised and they will give us 8100 and also 500 more for WIFEs service in the GUARD.  So gonna cost us for a bran new car about 12k and both cars not bad.  I still got my 03 F150 so I'm happy.  Oh yea she wants and alien green color on her Soul?

JONADEL, awesome video.  I had an opportuity to buy one of those engines coplete with 200 ft of track ties and also 3 cars and a tender for a 2-4-4 engine for 20k.  Wife said NO. Woulda looked good going around the house.  Maybe BUCKEYE will make the purchase and I come over and work for him, depending if he has enough OL MILs?

RAY, great job with the fan gotta love that convection.

JACK, still doing all the same stuff just that don't have to go in to school come September.

FIFE keep on strumming that EUK, Ol MILs tasted good last nite.

Stya frosty,

V8Vega

......I got a whole house fan, it was a closeout at Osh for $100 and it was a no sales tax weekrnd too which is a additional 10% here. I was careful cutting the opening in the ceiling and made it so I can put the original plug back during the winter so no heat go's out and is wasted. Here in the summer its often still quite warm as late as 10: PM so the fan pulls hot air from outside and blows out even hotter air in the attic. I regularly go to bed at 10:00. If you turn the fan on in the afternoon when you get home from being somewhere it pulls in hot outside air but the house is hot from being closed up so of some small benifit.. As far as blowing out the hot air in the attic in the afternoon I figure the attic heats back up quickily in the afternoon. So as I have a evaporative cooler, not air conditioning I don't even remove the winter ceiling plug for the fan anymore. My house has gable vents on each end and the fan blows hard enough that you can see the grass on the lawn blowing around from the vents.

V8Dennis......our "Summers" are shorter than yours and typically the total number of days above 90 don't exceed 6-9, except for this year, confined to June, July, and August.  Also, our evening temperatures, even when it is 90+ during the daylight hours, drops to the low 70's at night, usually by 10PM.  We get a ton of use out of the whole house fan nonetheless, even in the Spring and Fall.  Love the fresh air and a house that is aired out.

My fan bame in a mounting frame with louvers and is mounted permanently with reinforced 2x4 boxing around the joists that had to be cut out to fit the fan in the hallway ceiling.  The fan frame hangs down about 3".   The plaster cutout in the ceiling was very precise, snug, and I sealed the framing off tight as a drum with weatherstripping and caulk like one would do with a window.

Heat loss through the louvered doors can be real issue even though the louvers appear tight.  I built a "Winter cap" that fits tightly around the entire fan frame that shows on the hallway ceiling.  With foam edges, the cap quickly press fits into place and stays put, as does the heat.  No install/deinstall of the fan necessary.

BTW, the peak vent in the attic roof runs the entire length of the house, along with the soffit vents lets a lot of the hot air out naturally.

Hi All,

Not much to say today but Hot, Hot, Hot and still without any rain. Cool

Corn is done for and beans are not far behind. Dead Some places got pop up rains over the last few days but it all missed us. Sad

Had fun with the granddaughter yesterday in the kiddy pool and sprinkler. Smile But as you would know it, I had to do an oil change, rotate the tires and do an overall check up on the daughter’s car. Tongue Tied Sure glad my shed has AC.

Think I will watch the race and have a High Life or two this afternoon. Beer

Nice job on the box Chief, Yes

Rich, I hear you, I have been married three times and I know all about child support and Kids living here and there. Surprise

Whole house fans, We had one in Plainfield was well worth the money. That house had a 12-12 roof and sun all day. We don’t have one here but I have been thinking about it. This house has R38 in the attic full peak vents and full under eve vents. Also a lot of shade from the wood with the programmable thermostat,  the AC will go all day and not kick in till 3:00 PM when it calls for a drop to 73 degrees from 76.

Laz, Naps can be evil. What starts out as 15 min can become 2 hours. Zzz

Prayers for all in need.   Angel

Stay cool.

Good morning all,

Mike C. and Jack, thank you for the kind words and the indulgence of my fence stories.  You just don't know how much comfort it gives one just to know that  you guys actually give a darn.  It speaks volumns about the collective character and compassion of the folks on this forum.  That same caring goes to all who are carrying real burdens on here.  I include my own prayers and best wishes for all of you who still suffer.

Looking forward to the next report from the Chief about the "Box".  Nice work on the hinges.

Tried to call my sister in Virginia yesterday but she could not talk long account some kind of storm going on back there.  Still don't know what it was yet.

Jeffrey, glad you are feeling a little better.  The way you are being treated does not me feel proud of our systems.  Prayers that you will soon be back on track again and turning out some more work on your layout.

V8 Dennis, sounds like a good result with your full house fan.  I am getting by with A/C in the house but my garage/trainroom only has roof whirly bird ventalators and a window fan but it does get rid of the heat after the sun goes down.  Permanent solution would be A/C of course but our electric bills are sky high already.

Roof work continues on our church.  We are in a 7 week job that is on week 4 I think.  Evaluations of damage has been completed and repairs are under way now to the substructure of the roof.

Went out to dinner with friends last night and cautiously sampled ice tea with meal.  Still can not tolerate it or anything else with caffein in it so back to the straight and narrow.  I'm getting so I just like water better with meals anyway.  We try to take advantage of some of these dinner coupons but they require that you purchase a drink with your meal to qualify for a two for one deal.  I guess I will just order something and not drink it.  The other beverage choices are not good for me either except maybe non fat milk.

later,

Ray

Back from lake house.  Rained here while I was gone.  Actually stayed an extra night.  Worked on yard all day [neighbor's, who had bone marrow transplant, too].

Had to mow inside frence when I got home as grown too much.  Do not like to mow on Sunday but had too.

Gap in rails.  None.  Actually none.  With the way I did hinges [way above the top of the rail], none is needed.

Got to run.  Wifey and SIL are ready to go to FIL's to pick big blue berries.

At 11:15 this morning my sister, my niece and I went into town for lunch at Wagon Master Steak House. I was in no shape to drive so I didn't even attempt it. It was a disaster for me. I definitely wasn't feeling like myself. I ate about a third of an eight ounce sirloin, just three or four slices of fried pickles, not even a smal handful of peanuts, a quarter of a small salad, and a third of a bowl of steamed veggies and a glass of unsweet tea. I never drink unsweet tea but today I did for some reason. I still don't know why. Usually I have Dr Pepper. As for the pitiful amount I ate normally that would have all been gone along with a half rack of pork ribs. My niece said that if she hadn't seen it with her own eyes she never would have believed it. She would have called the person telling her a liar and taken out papers to have them committed! After we left there we went over to Lowe's to get a heavy duty extension cord. I didn't even try getting out of the car. I never fely less like moving in my entire life. Upon getting home I didn't even bother turning the computer or the layout on. I just went back to the bedroom and passed out across the bed. I woke up two and a half hours later feeling somewhat better and came up hyere and turned on both the computer and the layout and have a train running as I type this. I'm not really paying attention to it, just listening the click-clack of the wheels on the rail joints. The doc will be back tomorrow so in the morning I'll go to his office an plant myself right in fron t of the sign in window and get my precripsions renewed, every one of them! If I can't drive I'll get somebody to take me.

Aloha. Paradise. Missed you all the past week. Went to the beach at HHI in SC and just got back. Didn't have a real computer with me. and this site doesn't work well on mobile devices. A nice long drive IL-IN-KY-TN-NC-SC and back. It was pleasant having only one youngster though I did miss the built-in babysitter when the older kids are with us. Highlight for me: seeing the NS Executive train race out of Chicago like I imagine the old Broadway or 20th Cen. Limiteds.

Heat is coming back.  Triple digits are forcast for next week.

Thomas the Train day at the KATY Depot museum went well yesterday.  Not sure how many kids were there - I'm guessing somewhere between 30 and 40.  Average age seemed to be about three.  Most of them got a chance at driving the Lionel Thomas we had set up.    I noteced that for most kids, Thomas had two speeds - stopped and WOT.  Two or three kids did investigate the throttle settings in between.  The other thought I had was how well designed the Thomas set is.  Thomas does not go fast enough to de-rail on the curves, and the whistle is not very offensive.

Successful snipe on e-bay last night.  Snagged a NYC helicopter parts boxcar.  Missed out on two others this week.  Guess third time is a charm.

RI52 - You ever build stories around the scar on your temple?  I've got a good scar on the back of my hand.  I usually get a chuckle out of the waiter or waitress when I claim that it is an injury sustained over the last bite of desert my wife and I were sharing.

All for now.

It's 89 now and no rain here either.

Reg gas was $3.14 in Toledo Oh today. It's $3.59 here. We had a visit with my 95 year old aunt, you'd never believe she was over 70. We also spent the afternoon with my teenage years neighbor, we spent many days together way back in 1909..LOL. Banilla is ready but it will stay cold in the freeze till the thingy shows...S.J.

Good evening all,

It is dry and hot again in SE Indiana.  No rain again.  Beginning to wonder when it will return.  It is interesting to see what thrives and what doesn't in these conditions.   Spent most of the day cleaning and sorting through various piles of accumulated stuff.  Did spend about an hour running the HO set in the back bedroom.  Wife and I went for another walk with the dog tonight.  TBIL and I can drive tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good evening guys.  Was a nice day with church and all. Wife got home just as I was leaving for a meeting at church this afternoon.  Great to have her and the kids home, but they head out to FIL's house tomorrow.  I start call, so will be stuck at the hospital.

Jim, you are right, I certainly was not gentle with that 2020.  It never skipped a beat and the only thing I ever had to due was dust the sheet rock plaster off it after it exited the other side.  She didn't handle 0-27 curves at full speed very well!  Glad I still have the whole set.  Like many, I thought Lionel meant it was indestructible.

Jack, we have to be careful with our mutt.  It tends to get hot quite often down here.  It is one reason we don't leave him outside while we are out of the house.  He is a very good dog and very rarely does he bother anything he shouldn't.  Regarding whole house fans, I thought about it as the attic temps can get quite hot here.  Perhaps it would save on AC.

Well, gotta get some sleep.  God bless,

Dennis
