Chief,

              Happy B-Day

Laz,

         Congrats on the retirement.

Brent,

I don't know if you have an HH Gregg store in your area, but they have had good deals on TVs.  Best Buy's bait and switch extended warranty sent me there for my 42" LG Plasma.  How do you think LED compares to Plasma?

Still on the hunt for meaningful full time work and a Flyer 314AW.  Might have a lead on the 314AW.  I am really regretting selling mine.Sad  Sold it with the controller for $250, and just the 314AW without the controller that I am eyeing will be more.Black Eye

Just realized that next Monday (6/11) will be one year with the Mustang already.  Spent last night in the garage installing a billet grille.Smile

Got the parents yard mowed today and had another tractor breakdown. Nothing major, just a tie rod end. Yeah, I know, wait a minute! You replaced that LAST year! Last year I broke the RIGHT side tie rod end. Today I broke the LEFT side tie rod end. Naturally it happened at the top of the yard just like the other one so it was a slow trip back to the machine shop halfway down the yard. That doesn't sound far but then you realize how big five acres is. I only had to go two and a half. Got the big tractor parked in it's space and got out the little MTD Yardman to finish the small area outside the fence, a whole twenty minutes of work. Went to the repair shop afterward and got a new tie rod end and laid it on the hood of the big tractor. I'll put it on when I feel up to it. Afterward I came home and ate a couple of bologna and cheese sandwiches. Shortly I'll put on the latest Mythbusters show and lay back and fall apart.

Gladiator is a great movie to test a TV, Brent. The 300 is another good one.

Afternoon CTTFans!

Was at the Eye Doc this morning and for a change my prescription has basically not changed so the deterioration is slowing down from a lifetime in front of computers screens.  We broke the record high yesterday but today it should stay in the 80's.  Working on updating my Travel Blog from last weekends trip into DSP&P areas including finding this CB&Q caboose.

Good morning all,

V8 Dennis, good luck on selling the rental.  Hope it works out for you.

Laz, Best wishes for a happy retirement.  That last day always has mixed emotions.  At least it did for me.  On my last run as a railroad engineer, I had visions of pulling into the terminal and being greeted by well wishers.  Then reality set in.  As it turned out we never made it to our home terminal and "went dead on the law" out on the road. (Ran out of time).  I did not know either the conductor with me nor the student engineer riding that day.  Because of the nature of the work, it would be very difficult to arrange a get together on your last run today but I did get a nice watch from the company and a plaque from my local BLE division commemorating my years of service.  The one thing I remember about the last day was getting off the engine and thinking to myself that I will probably never run one of these again.  However retirement has been good.  I would not be able to maintain that old lifestyle now even if I wanted to.  All the best to you.  I'm sure you will do well with your many hobbies and talents.

Might try to go clothes shopping today as much as I hate it.  Try to sneak in between the rush hours.

later,

Ray

Hello all

Nice day here on the hill. Last day for this shift then back to the Ol' Pueblo.

Did some more sleuthing on that smoke unit this morning. Seems the new voltage regulator is overheating when the unit warms up. May look into a higher temp regulator or put the fan motor electronics on a separate board. Interesting little problem. The overheating may be the reason these regulators seem to fail often.

Pressed the new pinion gear onto the armature for the 1664 last night. Looking forward to the day when I can get a proper press, but finances say that will have to wait. Reassembled and ran it on the test track of the Mt. Graham Boiler Shop and am satisfied. She can now make her journey to points far east.

Now to tackle the ZW.

Last day LAZ! May need to add a Y to your nickname after today...Whistling

No comment on the Devils. Sigh

SJ, My daughter came over wanting to tell us about a house she is looking at, so I shut the beacon off.

So far a busy but quiet day at work.

Prayers for all in need.

Good morning. It's 82° and partly cloudy. The high will be 95° and there's a 20% chance of rain.

Looking at the weather forecast this morning makes me think I'll wnat to mow my parents yard today. Seems every day for the next seven or eight days shows 20 to 40% chances of rain. No plans for layout work today.

Mornin' Fellas

Happy Birthday Chief Happy B-Day

Congrats to Laz for surviving all those years with kids that were not biologically his. Thumbs Up

Congrats to Dennis! Have a safe and enjoyable trip to China!

Took Christina on her first trainride on Saturday. She really enjoyed it! I will try to post pictures soon (if you are friends on FBook, take a look at them there). The Walkersville Southern may not be one of the longest scenic railrides, but it is one of the more affordable ($12.00 for adults, $8.00 for children requiring a seat). The endeavor is still in its infancy. If I am still in the area in the years to come it could be a neat place to volunteer...

Got down in the train room for about 30 minutes yesterday... didn't get much done... still need to do some work to gain proper clearances... it will come. Going to try and stop playing computer games at night and get down into the trainroom at least 2 nights a week.

My fiasco for the month... Last Thursday night my Samsung 50" Plasma TV (only 3 years old) died! Now I don't expect TVs to last a lifetime, but 3 years is beyond rediculous! Called Samsung on Friday and they won't do squat besides send a tech out for $60.00... So I went to BestBuy to look around... found an open box 52" Sharp LCD, good price so I got it with a 4 year extended warranty. Got it home, set it up, looked good... till I started watching movies and TV shows... started to get sick - think motion sickness... so yesterday I paid closer attention and noticed that the people weren't moving correctly, some motion was slow, other was rapid... it was this out-of-syncness that was causing the motion sickness... back to BestBuy... found a 55" Toshiba LED open box for $467 less than the Sharp! Got it home, set it up, watched Gladiator on Cinemax and there was ZERO blurring/ghosting from the rapid action. The battle scenes in Gladiator are some of the most challenging scenes for a TV to display, and if they are clear then the TV is really good. So I am happy!

It's 59 and sunny, going into the low 70s.

A good chat last night and then some loop-D-loops to wake everyone up. We missed John from Jersey, he shut off his beacon before we could reach him. I guess we are going to walk the mall for awhile today. At least that's what I've been told...S.J.

Aloha Paradise. Leadership meeting last eve with the pastor. Yawn. Went late. Still paying $3.99 up here, SJ. Sigh. Brutus, that digging sounds like teen-age son work.  Wink Congratulations Laz, you should give yourself the last Golden Hammer award. Dennis, there's still a decent if pricey hobby shop and model rr store in Kowloon. Most 00 and N though. Then there's lots of N in the department stores on Victoria.

Hi GUYZ,

I MADE IT!!!!! LAST DAY, WITH KIDOS!!!!!!! Got them till 1100 AM.  Igive out my GOLDEN HAMMER AWARDS, then they are gone.

I have been giving this award to the est boy and girl in 7th and 8th grade.  It is the most prized award of all the awards given out each year.  Golden Hammer mounted on a nice piece of oak and then I engrave the kids name on a pice of walnut with the CNC router.  Looks great and everyone likes it.  Might be the last of the GOLDEN HAMMERs given out?   Or END OF AN ERA.

ANJDEVIL, RICH, OUCH. I was a rootn for the boyz because of what they did to the Flyers but OUCH.

Stay frosty,

Konbanwa,

The past two days were a bit busy as I returned to work after a week off and also started a new class.  I still found time to have a nice run yesterday morning and I also installed another train display shelf in the youngest child’s bedroom.  Today, the Skyline tin lithograph passenger platform I won on eBay arrived.  It is in very good shape and will look very neat on the UTB RR.

SP Ray – It sounds like you had a nice visit with Don, Bob, and John.  I am looking forward to meeting other forum members once I return to the States in a couple of years.

Dennis – I’ll be here.

Chief – Happy belated Birthday! Happy B-Day

BOC – You’re still in my prayers.

Sayonara,

Joe

Sunny and 90's today.  Muggy, but no rain.

Busy weekend.  Worked on skim coating a celing in one of our bedrooms with drywall compound - I'm at the sanding stage.  Happy, happy, joy, joy!

Sunday, we notice that a factory return furnature store is going out of business.  A friend of ours runs it, so we stop in to see what's up.  Ended up buying a new king size matress and spring set.  Got a good price, but being closeout, all sales are final.  Fight the old matress and springs downstairs, fight the new matress and springs up stairs - did I mention that there is a 90 degree turn in the stairway?  EF for the neighbors - my wife and I do not see eye to eye on how to move large items like a king sized matress.  My wife tells me on my way out the door for work this morning that I need to put a board under the new matress - she says that it is too soft to sleep on Bang Head.

Finally got my tomato plants in the ground yesterday.  I'm about three weeks late - just been really busy lately.

Went to watch a truck & tractor pull Saturday night.  Seems that Dodge trucks rule the diesel pick up classes and Chevy or Fords dominate the gas pick up classes.  Lots of black smoke came out of the diesels.

Happy birthday Chief.

Laz - enjoy your last day.  Wasn't there an old Alice Cooper song about 'schools out forever'?

Prayers for those in need of healing.

All for now.

Wow - missed a day!

Prayers for BoC!  You will kick it man.  Also prayers for Banks' friend, RT, and for Kev with cracked ribs!

Glad to see Ray is having some great company!

Rich - takes lots of pics for us of the celebration!  Sounds great!  That was one of the first railroads in the US.

Mike we are ready for the flight, but can make any detours or stops you require sir!  I think it's SJ's turn to drive anyway!

RT - good news and glad you were doing better at work today!

Just worked on the yard yesterday.  I bought some mulch for the front, where I dug out the old bushes last Fall.  Char wants me to dig it all up before I mulch it, so my friend Jeff is gonna loan me his tiller for a couple days.  We finally got a little rain tonight, but it passed in like an hour and was never very hard really.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening guys.  Sorry to be so sporadic in my posting.  We have been real busy with the adoption front and throw in a bit of work, it can make for a trying period of time.  We do still have a bit of a wait, but the light is certainly shining brightly at the end of the tunnel.  We had a few pages that we needed to sign and over night to the agency.  We had already sent in the rest of the paperwork, so now we just start sending the last of the money for getting the kids.

Joe, I will definitely let you know if we will be laying over in Japan.  Would enjoy catching up.

Regarding the trains in China, last time, I could only find HO and OO scale.  I would really like to get my hands on a brass O gauge steamer.  Only a few exist that I am aware of.  One guy in Hong Kong sells them.  We may fly in there, if that is the case, I may have to pick up a souvenir.

Laz, congrats on retirement.  I wish you well.

Chief, said it elsewhere, but a very Happy Birthday to you sir!

Rich, thanks for the kind thoughts.  I was wondering if you took in that job in Perth Amboy?  Looked like a real tough one for them to get control.  Back home, a Teaneck Capt went through a roof and messed up his back in a bad way.  They were a mutual aid engine on a propane explosion at a residence in Hackensack.  Also, one of the HFD guys messed up his leg and hand on a building collapse.  Been a bad time for the guys on the job.

Well, I have to get some sleep.

God Bless,

Dennis

63 now, mostly sun today.

Thanks Ray, stitches out Thursday.

While waiting for granny's hairs cut, I wondered around a dollar store for awhile. Spent 5 bucks, one can always find something. Filled her car with gas @ $3.49 for regular. Then spent a quiet afternoon visiting the couch and TV. Banilla is ready for the Tardis crew...S.J.

Chief I hope you had a great Birthday. Have many more.

Not much going on tonight, seldom is when you get home at 9:00. Got burned last night on a Wide Gauge set from the 1920's. In the last 7 seconds it jumped $200. I was in that mix but not enough.

Jeffrey, just noticed today that you have been using the new avatar.  Looks a lot more clear than the old one.  This must be the same as the full size photo you posted the other day.  Congratulations on your good medical report.  I have an appointment with my regular doctor coming up on Wednesday.  My Triglycerides have been too high in the past.  I  have doubled up on medication and have been walking more this time so I hope it is better.  You had a great number on cholesterol.

Started using the new avatar yesterday. I simply popped the full size photo into it and voila. My cholesterol numbers have always been low. I usually avoid many fried foods but when I'm at my parents place that's hard to do. My father will fry most anything. Walking is a good way to get some exercise if you can do it. That's very difficult for me. Walking, running and jumping exercises are taboo for me. Pushups are difficult as well. Many standing exercises I can do as well as many sitting ones though getting up from sitting on the floor can be tricky. Exercises that require me to look up are done while sitting or leaning against a wall as I become severely disoriented and dizzy when I look up or close my eyes for that matter. It's a problem I've had for many years. I have emergency lights in my trailer that come on in the event of a power failure so I have some light and I keep flashlights and electric lanterns within easy reach just in case. I have two within three feet of me right now and  I have a key chain LED light in my pocket. I hope you don't have such a problem.
