 RockIsland52:

Jeff.........one of the advantages of living up here in snow/tundra country versus where you live is that Mother Nature somewhat thins out the reptile, insect, and varmint population annually. Thumbs Up

Tell me about it! We already have a nightmarish number of mosquitoes down here. Want some? The June bug population is off the charts. Last night there were a bunch flying around my nephews porch light (if you can call launch and slam into the side of the house flying, kinda reminds me of Delta Airlines in the 80's.) and the door was covered solid with them. I got a couple of them in my hair and they happily started to burrow in. I went back to my place and combed them out then tossed them outside.

Jeff........they used to regularly spray for bugs up here, but the environmentalists stepped in and squashed most tof the spraying, except when West Nile Virus and some other insect borne diseases reared their ugly head.  When the cities and towns ran out of money, spraying took on even lesser importance, EXCEPT running up to an election. Whistling

The bugs?  Near the ocean there are a lot of wetlands where the year round moisture is perfect for mosquito breeding.  Mosquitoes and greenheads (horseflies that bite) have made some outdoor activies impossible without wearing some DEET.  Mosquitoes at twilight every single night, and greenheads during the entire daytime for 3 weeks of the Summer.  Yes we have spiders and snakes/reptiles and and other varmints, but not like you!!!!!!!

Good Evening

We spent the day outdoors here..and, believe it or not, I ended up with a sunburn..that's right...a sunburn...I look like cooked lobster right now....Black EyeWhistling

Anyways..it was an excellent day to get some yard work done...managed to get the back yard actually usable..ie: got rid of a bunch of branches and twigs and some of the old stumps out of there...

Hi Guys,

Still 73 degrees out there, been out all day with the cat.  Cool

Big changes are a coming. Huh?

Funny how things work. I have never been able to figure it out so I just figure it is Gods will. Angel

Don’t let it be said that I am not looking out for the Chief’s SS payments. He did me a nice favor earlier this year so it is time for me to pay him back. So after 3+ years of retirement.

I got an offer to go on a special assignment as a retired rehired for 3 to 6 months + so after some long talks with the wife we decided why not. Not like I did not do this stuff before.

So on Monday I go back to work,,,,,,,yeah that’s right WORK!!. SurpriseMonday, East Peoria at 7:30 AM 100 miles from home.

Good news is great pay, bad news is it is a lot of travel because the job will be in Fargo ND. So lots of plane flights going and coming each weekend.

Now I have to find my SS card…Bang Head…. One would think after working someplace for 36 years you would not need to prove who you are if you go back. But NO! Super Angry  Got to do the drug thingy in the bottle, Hmm find my passport, fill out a bunch of paperwork and so on. Confused

So I may be spotty on the forum till I get settled in. I sure want to get this job done before winter so I am motivated in that part.

Have a great night guys,

Later,

Kev

Jack,

Not worried about the color of the old fluid at all.  Shifts are smooth and easy now with the new fluid.

Since it is so nice outside, I decided to dig deeper into the GL's fuel gauge issue.  Went from this:

to this:

quickly.  Somebody didn't label screws or mark the steering wheel during the process.Bang HeadOops - Sign  My bad.  Ran out of light so will have to wait until morning.

Found several of these behind the cluster.  The original owner apparently was a Pirate fan (when they were still good...Oops )

Possibly going to look at a 90 GL that is a 5spd but otherwise identical.

Evenin' All.

Nice day today, a little cool but sunny.

Didn't get a whole lot done, kinda tired from yesterday. The munchkin had his second game at 5pm last nite so grampa had to go to cheer them on. Boy, did it get a bit chilly there at the fields. They sit on a bluff overlooking San Diego & Mission Bay so the breeze was downright cold. Good thing it only lasts a max of 90 min, all the kids were looking/acting a tired after a full day of school.

No museum this week, got a cataract pre-surgery consult which they said should last 2hrs minimum. Oh joy, that means the better half will have to drive me home. At least I won't be able to see very well so I shouldn't be subject to another heart attack. Laugh

That is a unique 4 wheeler, would love to see somebody mount a PT Cruiser body on a 4wheeler chassis.

Back to the laboratory, it's almost time to create the Easter Bunny Trains. Mischief

Well today I finally did it! I got my work table (translates to work areas on layout) cleaned up. Wonder how short a time it'll take to mess it up again.

8N,

I highly recommend the All Hallow's Eve set w/the 4-6-0 and the passenger cars. My only disapointment was the lighting in the coaches. Instead of the very distracting flashing lights had I been consulted, I know fat chance, I would have gone with color changing LED's.

Got plenty of photos if you need any inspiration. Laugh Clown

P.S._ The Halloween Docksider is pretty cool as well. Ashamed

Konnichiwa,

I have a moment for a quick post from the office.  It is another sunny, comfortable day.  I suppose all the cold weather may be behind us now.  I was able to have a quick lunchtime Tardis ride with Brutus, SJ, and John.  The rest of the day will probably fly by and tonight is breakfast night for dinner.

Jack – You’re doing a great job on taking the time to tutor your granddaughter.  Our daughter struggled with reading a little when she was 7 and 8 y/o and it affected her confidence.  We worked with her and now she reads about two grades above her grade level and enjoys it.  Her confidence is extremely high which can be a problem at times.Mischief  As far as desensitization: You’re right, we let the youngest run with scissors.Laugh

Kev – Congratulations on reentering the workforce.  I’m sure Chief will be well-pleased. Star

Jeffrey – The layout looks very clean.  I’m sure if anyone could disguise the AC it would be you.  Thumbs Up

Joe

Good Morning,

57 and shaping up to be a beautiful in NJ.

We had a great series of topics on the Tardis last night. From retirement to Japan.

RT, it looks like you belong to the same club as me. 12 hours plus. Laugh

Jeffrey, The "skeeter" is commonly refered to here as the Jersey State Bird. The last few years the County has had the skeeters under control pretty well.

Laz, I hope to be there for breakfast.

Blownout Cylinder: That is an interesting 4x4. That blue Breadbox Nova has some serious body panel alignment problems. It looks like it makes up for it in the Go Factor. Cool

Brutus, I am glad that everyone is on the mend.

Have a great day,

John

Mornin' boys.  'Nuther pretty day in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Just dropped off FifeMax for a "clip" and a chip.  He may never (willingly) get in the car again....

Demay - 6.8! Everybody ok?

KRM - Bold decision. Good luck with the assignment.  Not sure my wifey would let me travel and be away like that.  Probably would suffer a Broken Heart...

dougnotta -Good luck with the peepers.

Wifey just clarified that she would absolutely have no problem with me taking on an assignment in Fargo.  She wants KRM's email address to see if he needs an apprentice...Surprise

She's hoping for a quicker transition to West Virginia?!?! Sad

Well I STILL do not have the tile finished in the Kitchen. I absolutely MUST get it done tonight and get the touchup painting done. I don't like putting things off to the last minute and I have again... Sad

Morning guys,

Thought I better get up early. 60 out there and going to 80 today, WOW March 14TH???? Surprise

Lots to do today, collecting my SS card and passport and a bunch of other stuff I need to get for the work assignment. Guess I will be digging in the safe deposit boxes for awhile. Super Angry

I found a very interesting document in the safe yesterday that was given to my dad in 1940. It is the documentation that links his mom, my grandmother directly to Miles Standish Born 1584 who came over on the Mayflower. Shows all of the children and their children all the way to my grandmother. Where born, first wife, second wife with dates of birth and death of them and their children all the way back. Cool stuff. Big Smile

Fifedog I traveled a bit before so it would not be that much different than it was. The nice thing here is if it does not work out I can just re-retire. In the mean time I can make more in one month than I did all year working for the farm Service Company I drove for last year. The only comment from the wife is she will have to do what she has to do. We have some good neighbors that will help out.

Tell your wife I will see about getting an apprentice. Hmm

Blowout, That Nova is nice. The USSR thing/car is a 4x4x4 doors. Smile, Wink & Grin

88 good luck finishing up the kitchen today, Yes

Well got to go, If I can’t find my SS card I need to go get a new one at the SS office and that will not be fun. Bang Head

Later,

Kev

Konbanwa,

The 6.8 earthquake was a little ways up north.  It was pretty much near the same place the earthquake and tsunami hit last year.  So far it does not appear to have caused much damage.  The news reported this quake may cause some tsunamis but so far the waves have not been a threat.  My wife just said she felt another one a few minutes ago.  I didn’t feel it but I never do.  It’s time to finish some schoolwork and get some sleep.  I have a breakfast/meeting to attend tomorrow at 0730.

Joe
