After breakfast this morning my father called wanting some help with taking old 1963 Lone Star ski boat to the welding shop. The riveted seams are leaking so the seams will be aluma-welded rivets and all. We got the boat to the welding shop then stopped by the pharmacy on the way back so I could get a refill on my antibiotics. When we got back here I found a box on the back of my father's car. In it I found two N Scale mobile home kits and a pair of Fleischmann HO Scale street cars. They look like Schienenbus VB 998 models. The mobile home kits look like Nucomp Miniatures resin kits though I can't find anything with a name.

Good morning all,

Did not see the race but then again, I'm not into it.  My #2 son likes car racing though and travels all over the country to watch races.

Cold night here last night but don't know how much.  Furnace ran a lot this morning though.  Looks like the rain is gone and the sun is out now.

D Baker, I didn't know about the ethenol content in Costco gas.  I thought you had to have some modifications on your car to use it.  I was reading some reviews about the academy awards.  Seems like ratings were up this time with Billy Crystal (no surprise to me) but the critics were complaining because the younger people targeted by advertising were not watching enough..  Tough!  Score one for us old guys.

Dennis, prayers for your upcoming trip to China.  Hope it all goes well and that you get comfortable travel arrangements on a flight.  I don't think I could handle a flight of that duration at my age (75) which may not be too old but I've got a lot of milage on me.  A jazz band leader who I know who has traveled worldwide for many years doing concerts has just about given up on it but he is in his eighties.  Your kids will do fine.  They can handle a lot at that age.

V8 Dennis, hope you get some relief from that tooth ache.  Nothing worse!

Jeffrey, hope you have a ride on mower for doing your folks lawn.  Would seem like torture with your foot problem.

Jack, this is one case where Maximus really needs some hair of the dog.

Afraid to look at gas prices today.

Later,

Ray

Bob,

Hope he gets it.  Getting it looked over before buying is a good move.  I should have done that when I bought the GL.

If anyone is curious about Ford's multiple piece spark plug, here you go.  Probably designed be the same guy that designed GM's 3800 V6 and Dexcool.Oops - Sign  The plug on the left is what they should look like, and the other two are the result of carbon buildup seizing them in the head.

I am still waiting on the tool to get them out.  I got the replacement fuel filler neck for the GL, which looks like new old stock, but that'll have to wait.

Hello all

Got a pretty good dusting of snohio last night. We are still in the clouds this morning. Hopefully we will be able to open up later.

Jeffrey - glad to hear you boot mods have helped. The U-boat is looking better and better!

Brutus & Dennis - take it easy a bit a get better.

JimT - my brother found a Mustang he really likes. It's a 94 Cobra Pace Car edition, one of 1000 made. They are having it checked out this week and will prob pick it up on Saturday.

Got a few non-train projects to tinker w/ today. Will test the 1664 on the Hardwood Floor Central this week and add the last few parts and then it's off to points west. Need to clean and box up the Amtrak set so it can be off to points east. I figure once the ZW arrives I'll drop the KW in the same box and get it on the bay. Busy is good.

AlohaParadise. Grey and cold. So what else is new in the weather. Puzzling out to get to a funeral for my boss' father in the middle of the city today. Might need to ride a few different buses to get there.  Bob, those Kato models are gorgeous. They got the new Metra cars just right. Jeffery, love how you slid the decal for the U-25 on the nose. It's looking good. Don, all our gas here has 10% ethanol. I usually fill the van with 85% ehtanol. It's usually cheaper and I haven't seen the lower mpg its supposed to yield. Of course, you need a flex-fuel engine for it.  NASCAR sure started the season snake-bit: they lose their big weekend audience, early wrecks take out their new super-girl and the race runs super-late. Nowhere to go but up. Hope to run trains tonight. Tinker more with Thomas...

Boy, I remember flying coach to Hong Kong from Chicago on what was then the world's longest non-stop flight.

Looks like return of steam on underground.html to London's Underground for its anniversary next year.

Morning guys.  Off today as it is a "date day" with the bride.  Paperwork sent.  Yes, Kevin it will be non-stop from Newark, but we will most likely fly out of Atlanta to get there, so one stop.  Last time, we flew over the north pole and it took 21 hours.  And we did coach as I had to purchase the tickets the day before the flight.  Both really expensive and not much selection.  I will say that flying Continental international was fantastic.

Brutus, hope you get to feeling better.

Gotta run,

Dennis

Good morning. It's 61° and cloudy with patchy dense fog. The high will be 75° and there's a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

It looks like more cleanup on the layout will be the order of the day. I was able to put my walking boot on this morning with very little discomfort and can move around quite comfortably. Looks like the modifications I made yesterday are a good thing. Actually they were the actions of a desperate man who needed some relief. This morning I find myself looking at an Athearn C&NW F7-A shell and I wonder what I'm going to do with it. I also have an SD40-2 shell that I'll probably chop up for pieces to use on my U25C project to make it a slightly unusual beast.

Good morning, To early for the sun but frosty and 28 degrees right now in North Central Illinois

WOW what a NASCAR kick off. Primetime Monday night. Wreckfest at best and then the burning track dryer was too over the top. I did not get to bed till after midnight. Danica WHO?? And what about that FOX coverage? More commercial time than race coverage time and no corner captions even.

Dennis, Hope you get your invite from China soon. That can take awhile but you have already been there so you know. Is you flight over there non-stop? I flew it from Chicago and it is one long ride. Glad I got to do it in business class. Coach would have been terrible.

Buckeye, if Chief had used National he could of picked his own car so who does he got to blame?

Chief, you have a good day at the lake house, The Jones Boys will keep an eye on everything for you. Mischief Or maybe you could have Jeffery do a fly over and boot them in the back side with that heavy boot of his for you.  Travel

Brutus, Take care and well up, okay? Angel

Don, all of our gas here has a least 10% Ethanol in it and has for year. But then we are smack dab in the middle of the Great Midwest Corn Belt

Laz, do you have a bunch of time off to burn before you retire or can you cash it in? I only worked 3 days of my last month at work because I had to use it or loose it.  Wink

Jack, I have seen that coat issue before with Dobermans. Our old neighbors had two of them and both had it. Came and went with both dogs. Best of luck with it. Bang Head

I see another of the kids from the Chardon school shooting has died. What a shame. Angel

Well better finish up my Cheerios and get ready for another trip to the foot Dr. Hope he gets it right this time.

Later,

Kev.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a cold and frosty 30 degrees. Going up to 50 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I have chores to do and an errand to run. Lunch and a nap later.

Daytona 500 was a real mess. Only good part was when the drivers stopped pushing each other and decided to race. Big fire was a surprise.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Good Mornin' Y'all From Crystal Clear Taxachusetts,

Good news.  The sun came up again, so the day has started out right. Big Smile

I stayed up to watch the end of the Daytona 500 but fell asleep with about 23 laps to go when the yellow caution flag came out yet again. Bang Head  Not going to do that again, stay up that is.  Would have DVR'd it but I don't have a DVR. Smile, Wink & Grin

It looks like the dire weather forecast for snow later this week has changed, looks like we will be spared mostly as the main snow passes North of us in New Hampshire and Maine.  Maybe just a couple of inches.

Maximus the dog still is having skin/coat isuues.  The antimicrobial shampoo the vet suggested has cleared up all of the tiny bumps on his skin straight off, but his coat is thinner.  Wife unhappy.  Nothing has changed in his environment or with his food, so in a week or so we'll try something else.

Re that high school shooting in Chardon Ohio......I went to school about 30 minutes from there.  Last April we stayed at a hotel not 10 minutes from the school.  At times the world seems upside down with another at-risk child doing the unthinkable.

Re the shooting in my home town over the weekend where a police officer from the adjacent town shot one of ours, then later returned to the scene and took his own life........the District Attorney had initially decided to not investigate the cause.  Due to public outrage, he has now reversed himself; and the investgation continues.  It appears to be a personal matter between the two.  Sad.  Both officers had solid records. The strong support of their respective communities and friends is palpable.  Many bystanders were at risk, two jumped in, put their lives on the line, and are credited for saving the wounded officer's life until the paramedics got to the scene..... or he may not have made it.

Later, gang.

Jeff - hope that modification to your boot helps - ouch!

Well, I've been fighting a sinus/cold thing for a few days and on the weekend it was okay 'cause I could sleep later.  Tried to get some sleep last night and the coughing etc was too much.  I felt so bad this morning!  Char took the kids to school and I called the boss and went back to bed for another 2 hours.  Still dragging.  She bought me some meds with guafenisen and DM for the cough, so sure hope that helps tonight.  Gotta get back to work!

Mike, you go ahead without me tonight my friend, I'm out for the count.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening All,

Your right Ray, Chris is up at the Academy, (theater without a name), he has been there since last Thursday, probably will come home sometime tonight.  They have to take down signage, and move all their equipment back to the Mary Pickford Museum.  The Pickford is where all the old movies are stored in vaults.

Had a somewhat frustrating day, the Click and Ship, USPS website has been down all day.  Only the second time it has happened in 4 or 5 years, but it prevented us from shipping any product today. Black Eye  I spent probably 4 hours trying to resolve a "potential" problem at my end, waste of time.

Been cold and raining here today, would have been a great day for the train room, but spent it on the computer.  Did manage to talk to the Chief today, he accused ME of sending him a Black OHIO State Police car??? Confused  Hmmm wonder who could've done that!

Been watching the race, seems the gauge and injector problems are significant.  For you knowledgeable guys out there, I find it hard to believe these cars are running on Ethanol.  Realize that all it takes is some sponsor money to become the Official Nascar (insert product here).  Or am I totally wrong.  It is interesting, here Costco, (similar to Sam's Club) offers gas about .10 to .15 less than anyone else.  But what most people dont bother looking at is the decal on the pump saying that the gas contains 10% Ethanol.  I dont think that is bad but should but dont know people pay attention to what they are buying.

Just saw Montoya plow into the jet dryer at Daytona!  Unbelievable!! One heck of a fire, utility truck driver seems ok, shaken up but taken to change clothes.  Race red flagged, track (just refinished), will probably be too damaged to continue.  Nascar off to an interesting season!!

Take care and God Bless !!

Don

Good evening everyone.  Long day coming to a close.  Had an early case that went well, but had me thinking on my feet a bit.  At least my call is over for a few weeks.  I am taking off tomorrow and will be getting well medicated tonight.  Thanks for the kind thoughts guys.

Bob, our temps are supposed to be hitting the upper 70s tomorrow, so I doubt we will see any of the white stuff!  We have been getting a fair amount of sprinkles over the last day or so.  We did have some heavy winds, took out a large limb I will have to haul to the burn pile.

Chief, they must have had your home zip code listed wrong.  They may have thought you were from Ohio and gave you the small car thinking it was all someone from Ohio could handle.  Speaking of car handling, perhaps that is why Danica keeps wrecking, she is still practicing parallel parking on the big oval track.

Well, we had photos taken for the Chinese government today.  This is the last step and tomorrow the package gets sent off to China.  From here, it is just the big wait till they "invite us" to come get the kids.  We also have to write another big check to go along with all the papers.  Lots of fun and games, but it is all worth it in the end.  My wife and I were talking about this tonight over dinner.  With our first daughter's adoption, my wife was worried about the unknowns of going to China.  Now, she is worried about coming back with two two year olds who don't speak the language and one is legally blind.  Should be an adventure!

Well, hope each of you is doing well and that you and your families are blessed.

Dennis

I have been installing goose neck lights on the layout.  It takes a long time to wire accessories and get it right. In this case I used a piece of plastic tubing and punched it through the foam leaving about three inches above the foam.  The goose neck lights wires go through the tubing and the then the light is set with the tubing holding the light in place.

Ever since the doc got me this new boot I've been having massive problems with it being way too tight. Most of that was due to the hard plastic pinched in back section from the support rods on back forcing the bones to rub together. OUCH! Bone pain is something you don't want. Well I just cut all that out and it's much more comfortable now that those high sides aren't putting all that pressure on my foot and ankle not to mention that it was tearing up the skin pretty bad. I can actually take a step now without feeling like my foot is in a vise. Maybe later I'll get a photo of the cut out section. A description would be somewhat similar to removing the back from a shoe. The sock wrap that holds my foot is attached to the support rods with Velcro so there's no danger of it coming off. I can hardly believe the difference in how it feels. Somewhat like the difference in going from an overly tight dress shoe to a comfortable running shoe. At least I won't be in agony most of the time.

Jeffrey.........visiting your Mom and Dad is hazzardous to your health! Wink  Hope your foot is improving.Thumbs Up

Yes, it certainly seems that way. I wish the foot could improve but it's been beyond that point for a long time.

Well I just finished mowing the parents yard. Couldn't get the Peerless tractor to start even after having the charger on it until it stopped charging. Charger said 100%, still not enough to turn the engine./ So I used my father's little MTD Yardman. It's harder for me to use and causes me quite a bit of pain but I can use it. Got both the front and back yards cut and got the mower put away. Went and tried the Peerless again. It had been on the charger while I was mowing and now that there was nothing to do it fired right up. Maybe it's getting lazy.
