Good morning. It's 66° and cloudy with drizzle. The high will be 78° and it'll be cloudy. Chance of rain is 30%. Looks like those up north and east of me are getting the kind of weather I surely don't want. I don't mind rain much but I surely don't like it when it comes down in flakes. for those who have to deal with it.
8n: Good news about your mother.
I feel much better this morning. There's just a minor twinge in my back from yesterdays events. Already been out working on the van this morning. Changed out the plug wires that were giving me a problem and got everything closed up. Now I'll just stay inside and rest as much as I can.

Good morning. Already 57 degrees and going to hit 60 today Sun is out and a brisk breeze. Nothing much on the plate for today but will spend what time I can outside. The good thing here is the wife’s back is getting better so that makes my life better. Looks like some real bad weather went through to the south prayers for those who have been impacted by that. 8n, good news on your mother. LAZ and blownout I can join the hearing impaired club. Too many years on the factory repair floor at Cat did them in… What? RI Jack sent you a PM. Dennis and Ray from CA, I hope your weather improves soon. I know how bad a time it must be to have your heat on. Bob your package is somewhere points west heading your way? Have a good day all, Kev

With all of the NASCAR teams having access to professional graphics arts shops, I wonder what kind and how many 'Mr. Montoya - the man who burned down Daytona' related stickers will mysteriously show up on his race car, transport truck, pit boxes, etc, etc. Those guys are a pretty close community, and there are a lot of practical jokers in the bunch.
Mom had a swallow test today. Results were good enough that the speech therapist has cleard her to start re-introducing her to real food to get her off of her PEG tube. This is good news and a very important step in her stroke recovery.
All for now.

Well I'm calling it a night and resting my sore back. See y'all tomorrow.
Good evening everyone. Just got home from the PTO meeting in which our son and his class were singing. I also had my attention taken during the program to watch a webinar given by the society of thoracic surgeons. We are trying to lower blood usage in surgery and they had a meeting of the minds. Hated to have two obligations, but wouldn't pass up my kis's performance.
Kevin, when I looked out the windows flying over the north pole, it was bright pure white! We did see the same sights as you of Siberia, however, on the in China flight, we flew right pass the SAM missile factory in the Jiangzhi province...they will take your camera if you try to take photos out of the windows! Not sure if we are flying into Shanghai or Beijing this time around.
Jack, have you ever heard of "Red Cell" additive for dogs? It will help their coat as well as build muscle. We get it at Tractor Supply, or the feed store. Just add about an ounce to the dog's food every day.
Now about the Chief letting us hitch a ride in the jet? I thought we were on good terms, but such an offer has not come my way. Must think I had something to do with the car selection at Enterprise?
Well, it will be an early morning for me with a lot of smaller cases. I can't complain as the guys are still doing cases tonight after being there all day. I offered to head in tonight if they get an emergency, can't expect them to be on top of the game if they are exhausted. Time to head in to bed.
God bless,
Dennis

The school shooting was pretty bad all right. It was all over the news when my father and I were taking his boat to the welding shop this morning. It's pretty bad when your kids aren't even safe in school. Entering the high school here you'd think you're trying to get in to see the president or something. Everybody gets searched and they STILL get weapons in. No guns but a bunch of knives and stuff.
KRM And as you know someone needs to keep Chief in line.

Reply sent. If you are sure that the color is molded in, go all out with the undiluted Super Clean or Simple Green. Just be careful as they can be aggressive with paint and lettering. I speak from experience.
Jack,
I didn't want to leave the original plugs in beacuse it gets worse the longer it is left alone.

Buckeye, You are so right about the school shootings. Thank you very much for your comment. I hope and try to be a good member of the community and not just focus on myself. (But as a human, I know I do) I enjoy the forum and the POT. All of the people on it and all of you give me a lot of great ideas on thing to do on my layout within my monetary situation.

Tks,
Well cripes! I ended up twisting my back then getting my vertebrae slammed together this afternoon. I went out to replace some old spark plug wires on my van. I got the engine cover off easy enough but while trying to get in position to get to the wires in question (I'd have to be laying down across the seat to do it as I can't kneel or squat easily) I lost my balance and fell backward out the open door. I made a snatch for the steering wheel with my right hand. That swung me around and I slammed my back against the rear of the door opening then hit the ground flat on my butt hard enough to clack my teeth together and crack a tooth. I now have a major ache right between my shoulder blades and in the upper part of my right arm. Now for those thinking how could I possibly screw up a simple job like this, it's not hard. It may be simple for you. For me it's a major job because I can't kneel unless it's just on one knee, I can't squat because what's left of my right foot/ankle doesn't flex or move at all. So to do this job I have to maneuver around so I can lay on my right side to get to the left side on the engine. If I were working on the other side of the engine I'd have to be on my left side. See why it's hard? Doing something like setting the timing can be interesting to say the least. The van is still sitting out there with the door open and the engine cover off and it's going to stay like that until I can get out there and do something about it, probably sometime tomorrow. Right now I'm just hunched over wishing the pain will just go away. I didn't even touch the plug wires.

Well thought my numbers were just painted on but doesn't seem to be the case as tried alcohol on Q-tip and rubbing at the numbers no luck they weren't budging so not sure whats the next step to getting rid of them I really don't think there heat stamp ( sent you email probe saying they might be but think there not) as they are not indented at all actually the numbers are raised a hair. I can feel them as I rub my thumb across them but it doesn't have any drop to them more like raised. I do believe shell is molded as none of that paint tried to come off either. ( also on bottom of shell took a box cutter at an angle and dragged it across got some sliver of plastic but shell was still grey there so its molded not painted.
Might have to get an airbrush and get as close as possible match and paint that area so numbers aren't showing then put new numbers on and weather these engines ( after seeing that video that Charlie put up the other day) Will have to play for a while on some cheap ho cars
Oh well will see unless you all know of a way for me to get these numbers off the real trick is the nose as there close to some other decals/painting that I don't want to destroy

Good Evening..mmmm..why does that look so....Alfred Hitchcock?
Spent the day doing nothing but reinstalling Windows and my other programs..such as Sonar X1 ( a Digital Audio Workstation program) and a whole pile of other things into a new computer here. Then I had to integrate the mess of things while reauthorizing everything...loads of fun...I'm still doing this lot too!! Where did I put my 50 cup urn of coffee?
Getting close to heading down the mountain. Pretty cold out today, didn't get much over 20 deg. Gonna be real cold tonight.
The tender for the 1664 has some kind of funny short in the whistle mechanism. Pulled it out and the loco drags around the chassis just fine. May flip in another motor I have from my 2224W (I'm not a big fan of the PW whistles) and put this one in the parts box. Somebody was messing around w/ it years ago that prob shouldn't have been. One of the horseshoe clips flew across the room at one point, then the custodians vacuumed it up later S'ok, not a big fan of those either, just get an e-clip from Ace later.
Darned if I didn't win a milk car and platform too. First bid was less than the shipping and I got it for that. Told myself I'd just put in the minimum and not look. Prob one of the only working accessories I will get, other than the Lionel diesel scrapyard. I like the idea of them cutting up a diesel while steam locomotives are running around.

RockIsland52 Will someone please tell me why on earth the track guys at Daytona last night didn't just tow that burning jet track drier and the pull truck off the track and onto the infield? My wife thinks it was because there was the danger of a jet fuel explosion, 200 gallons worth; but I pointed out that the firefighters on the scene were pretty darn close to the truck/track drier anyway. Besides, these were Reb firefighters, and they don't think ahead about such matters, like explosions. KEV.......hope you got your meds straightened out. Those upset stomachs can be miserable. Try adding a shot of Pepto to the martoonis in the interim.

Jack, The tires had brunt off of the truck so they did not want to drag it across the track and do any more damage that they already had. If it would of still been on tires they would of just towed it off to the infield. And thanks for the idea on the martoonis, but I got new meds today and am doing much better. Tks, Kev.

Greetings Again From Sunny Taxachusetts,
Chief.........if those good ole boys were watching where they were driving instead of looking sideways at Danica, that Daytona wreck would never have happened.
Chuck......you are right. They finally did get down to some good racing at Daytona toward the end, and the 200mph laps did make for some excitement.
Brutus......hope Char is pleased with the way her eyes are coming along.
Darren....... regarding that family medical emegency. And as you go for that all time snow ecord for a season.
Don and RaySP.........you probably already know this, but California reformulated gas has been around for a long time, before ethanol. The ethanol reformuted gas in CA. came on in the early 2000s I believe. You've been burning it for quite a while. The pumps initially had a sticker that said "Up to 10% ethanol by volume" so that states and major metro areas plagued with smog that began using ethanol content could ramp up from initial levels (around 6%) over time to the 10% without changing signage on the pumps. Ethanol may have been used in CA. even longer around the major metro areas. Ethanol does not produce as much energy as straight gas, so gas mileage should be off a tad the higher the content. Here in the Northeast we have had ethanol (and the pump signage) for quite some time. I think you have to have an E85 (flex fuel) rated vehicle to run OK on any blend higher than 10% ethanol.
SubmmBob...........are you winning the Arizona primary? The Chief used his influence and stuffed the ballot boxes Just a thought, how about turbocharging your Corvair van? Some little boy is going to wet his pants when he gets that Amtrak train set, what a guy you are!!!!
Dennis......why would you be flying commercial airlines to China when at the drop of the hat the Chief could take you in his Gulfstream G650 which has a cruise speed of Mach .85 and a range of 7,000 miles? You two could stop at the North Pole on the way and have Santa spring for some trains. Chief could just chalk up the expense to the Roseyville taxpayers as an economic exchange visit to bring fireworks manufacturing or Crackerjack toy manufacturing back to Roseville. You guys could stop off and visit JoeyD while you were at it.
V8.........I would like to offer my condolences to you on your tooth issue. But between you and RaySP complaining about the California weather, my empathy has waned. My Lord!!!!!!! Ray had to actually run his furnace today!!!!!!! The other day it was rain!!!! What is the world coming to ?!?
JimmyT........what prompted you to start pulling the spark plugs in the Mustang in the first place at such moderate mileage on the vehicle ?
Where are Pat and JimSP and Brent hiding out? Fife too!!!!!!!
Later, gang.
Jack

I got the model of that Fleischmann rail bus wrong. It's a Rail bus with side car class 798 / 998. I used to see the all over Stuttgart when I was there about thirty-five years ago.
Just ordered new decals for my PA-1's and PB-1's so I can renumber them to be correctly number to which NYC actually had. not Lionel's dreamed up number of 2000 & 2000B
Not a lot going on today just taking it easy. Need to get some JB Weld to try and attach some pot metal back together again ( wife has a scale the is die-cast and it broke a couple of arms on it ) so hopefully the JB weld will do it.
Hope all having a good day talk to you all later
green97probe Kev, I wouldn't be too sure about that. These only had 44,500 on them. The Lisle 65600 tool got the remains out very easily, and it should be a must have for anyone that has to deal with these plugs.

Darren, Hope all is well with the medical emergency. Here are some of shots of the top of the world. Pictures of Siberia on the way to Shanghai from 2008 The plane had a nice feature where it showed you the flight path, outdoor temp and elevation and as Dennis said you go right over the north pole. A shot of Shangha at night.

Well I got my radio alarm fixed. It's a unit from the early 70's I think. I have one similar to it here at the 'scope. RCA w/ Japanese AM/FM radio. Looks newer than my other one but has an actual Telechron clock, whereas the older one has a Telechron knockoff. Interesting.
Has a 4 position switch that due to wear in the plastic parts is more like a 2 position switch now. Kept acting like the phantom radio and turning on by itself. Well a toggle switch in the side connected to where the clock powers the radio fixed that problem. Have it on right now. Actually getting an FM station out of Phoenix pretty well. The telescope building is a pretty good Faraday cage and we generally get poor reception. May have to look for a radio only version of this one for the kitchen.
JimT - those plugs look like a nightmare! Put the designer right up there w/ the guy who designed the sidepost battery.

Good afternoon, Well I went into Marseilles and Ottawa today on my way to the foot Dr.and gas is as high as $3.79 (most places) and I found it at RoadRanger on I80 & RT 71 for $3.59. So I had to fill up. Jim Probe, You got me thinking about the plugs in my truck. So I checked my records and see I changed them on 3-4-07 with 101,849 miles on it so I only have 5 years and 60K on these. I think I should be good. V8 Dennis, I have never had a root canal. OUCH My wife has had one and it only lasted 14 years before it failed. They had to take the tooth out to get rid of the pain and infection. Hope they get it under control. DougM, looks like we are in for some rain tonight. It can melt that snow. Later, Kev
