KRM

Jeffery,

I am not going to argue with you on who feels the worst. No point counter point from me. I will just keep it to myself.  I do know alittle about what pain is after having a crushed left arm since 1996, three botched surgeries, the 14"+ scar from them, chronic ulner nerve pain and 7 years on 7.5 Vicodins 6 times a day. I finally said to heck with it and quit the meds and did the mental pain block. It can be done.

I wasn't meaning to slight you on your pain. I know it hurts a great deal. I was just letting you know your foot is in much better shape than mine. Yours is still a foot. Mine is, well I don't quite know what it is. I wish you all the best with yours.

Colin (and Probe) - Check out this months Motor Trend...Horsepower wars...Dodge Cummins right there at 700 hp....I think 800 lb/ft of torque.  Never heard of the Cummins having driveline issues...Viper at 660 HP, and GM thought that it would make a splash with the 580 HP Camaro....LaughlmaoLaugh...The Mustang weights in at 600!!!  I'd rethink any GM purchase...I'm more Mopar, but that 600 HP horse sounds tempting!

Rich

Colin, Rich, and JimmyT........you guys must be rich, or you own stock in Royal Dutch Shell or EXXON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Smile, Wink & Grin

My 2007 SRX has a 4.8L Northstar rated at 320hp/315 lb.ft torque.  It is an AWD 7 passenger crossover vehicle.  It consumed slighly more than $4,000 in (premium grade) gasoline this past year, maybe a little more because the prices per gallon were a tad higher a few months back (climbing once again now toward $4 per gallon).  That covers roughly 20,000 miles for me in a 4,450 pound GVW vehicle with a 6 spd automatic transmission. @ a guestimate average fuel mileage of 18-19mpg for the year.  Around town with a very light right foot it gets 15-16 while I can squeeze 22+ mpg pure highway on cruise control at the posted speed limits with no stops or traffic interference to speak of.

The vehicles you guys are talking about weigh more, have far more motor, have far more horsepower and torque, and are less aerodynamic........so I might argue their fuel mileage will be less than what I get.  Add in a heavy right foot and the variance will grow.  Get out your wallets!!!!!!

When I was your age I was exactly like you guys.  I didn't think twice about fuel costs or mpg.  But by the time I was about 30, I finally stashed my fun car (1969 Corvette) for fun driving only.  I had a more practical and mundane, dependable daily drivers you guys might not want to be caught dead in.

Ah, to be young again, and without the serious overhead that comes with accumulating stuff and having a family.  I say, do it now while you can and have the budget to do it! Thumbs UpBow

JimmyT........the Corvette was purchased used, with a 5.7L 350ci solid lifter small block rated at 370hp.  It was 4 years old when I bought it "preowned."   And the exhaust sound?  It came with factory side exhausts.  Then I swapped them out for Hooker headers and Hooker full race side exhausts.  Each side exhaust had two removable muffler cartridges, so you could vary the exhaust note from merely obnoxious to totally obscene.Surprise

I'm with Jack on this one.  My first two trucks were little 4 bangers with lock out hubs, needed the 4 X 4 to get up our driveway.  Graduated to a full size 1/2 ton Tundra, great truck.  Four years ago when gas was approaching $4.00 I bought a new 2008 Tundra 5.7 liter 4 x 4 -- they were practically giving them away and that's why I bought it, no one in their right mind would buy a 1/2 ton with such a big motor.  I love that truck, I can pull a trailer with a 1/2 ton on it from here through the mountains of Colorado and it doesn't even hiccup .... the only issue is fighting the steering wheel going past a gas station, ahem.  I bought that truck knowing it wasn't going to be a daily use truck, that changed last fall when the boss totaled our "economical" car.  I then started driving the Tundra daily, ouch.  Last week I bought a car that gets 49 MPG on the highway and 51 in town and I love it.  I still have my truck, always will, but I gotta tell you ... paying $60.00 - 70.00 for a tank of gas sucks, and that's at today's prices.  Add on .50 for diesel.  Just sayin.

Good evening everyone.  Very long few days.  Went up to Atlanta to do a site visit at a hospital there.  Last night, we went out for dinner and had the Romney caravan speed by.  Boy, I can't wait till we are past the primaries here.  Anyway, was up all night, then went in early and spent the day.  Drove back 3hours, and now have to host our friend's kids as the wife went to the ER.

Regarding aortic aneurysms, Rich, was he a heavy smoker?  Majority are.they are very serious and can be fatal in a big hurry.  Unfortunately, some folks try to endur the pain and medicate themselves with a fifth of liquor.  By the time they present to the ER, they are either ruptured, or about to.

Banks, your spell checker probably tried to "fix" it, but it should read "hyperbaric chamber".  They use them for chronic wound healing.  Another technique is to use platelet rich plasma which is extracted from the patient, separated in a centrifuge, and mixed with thrombin and injected into the wound.  It is high in growth factors and really promotes healing.

Well, gotta run, hope everyone has a great night.

Dennis

Good luck with those guys. Mine is just an old 1981 Dodge B250 Ram Van battleship with a 31 year old thirsty 318 with a carburetor and a dependable old 3 speed automatic. Gets 14 mpg hwy on a very good day and would cost $79 to fill up from empty with regular unleaded. Has no heat, no ac, no radio, but it runs. I would like better mpg but beggars can't be choosers. I picked it up for $400. Here you're lucky to get something with wheels and it may have what's left of an engine in it for that money.

Evening all,

KRM, ANjdevil2, Rockisland52: I've never understood why Ford designed their trucks in a way that involves removing the cab from the frame. It's a nightmare to disassemble, but I heard mechanics like it because it's extra $$$ in their pocket for labor charges. The worst part about the 2003-2007 (I think 07 was when the 6.0 was retired) diesels are that they are 6.0's, otherwise known as 6 leakers. Ford should not have killed the 7.3 International motor they included in the trucks.

I know the Cummins motor is one of the most dependable on the market, but my only issue it that the truck itself, not the motor, is notorious for rusting and they transmission isn't that great. I love the Cummins motor though. It's still up in the air, if I can find a good Dodge Ram Cummins or a GMC or Chevy Duramax for a attractive price which has a clean bill of health, I'll jump on it. I prefer the older body style Rams (98.5-02) but I like the newer (preferably 08) Sierra's or Silverado's. My friend Mike owns a 2008 Silverado Duramax that regularly gets 26 on the highway and 18 around town so I know these trucks can be tuned for multiple uses. I have a feeling I'll be using the smoke tune often though. Mischief

Well, I just finished packing! Now I'm just waiting to get picked up for a relaxing weekend up the mountains!

Talk to you guys later in the weekend!

Hi neighbor,

My name is Kevin Myers I live just to the north of your property.

Please do not shoot to the north. I have found a bullet hole in a tree right in front of our house that looks to be from a high velocity shotgun shell, rifle or pistol and it lines up with your deer blind that Studeman built. Hard to believe it made it to my place but sure looks like to me. I am not sure you knew we were here but wanted you to know. If you would like to have a look, please do come over and introduce yourself. I would be glad to meet you.

Thanks again,

Kevin Myers

Not me sir.  Some guy in gray from NC came by and said something about an old war still going on.  He walked into my woods and then I heard shots being fired.

Howdy guys - well, Char's procedure went well.  She said it was painful, though.  We went back in the afternoon for a checkup and she had good results, they think 20/20 or better Thumbs Up  Other than that, I took care of her and made two trips to get the kids from school and then from robotics club after school.  I know Doug Murphy had eye surgery, and it might have been the same one.  She's a little concerned as she can see pretty clearly already for distance, but she can't really see very well for near out of that eye.  I think it's probably due to the pressure from post-surgery swelling and changes.  We'll see how it goes.

Hope your feet are better, Jeff and Kev!

TARDIS is ready, so let's get going.  Banilla, rootbeer, and chips!

After closer examination, the guy on the left is definitely SJ, can tell by the physique and the hair.  And the tattoos are a dead giveaway......that's Chuck on the right.  And they both like to take naps.  Laugh

Howdy Dood.  You said a word that reminded me.  Where is Pat [VA]?  Feeding the cows?  Don't remember seeing him post lately.

Well, time to get ready to go to Raleigh.

Later.

Chief, thanks for thinking of me. All is well, just busy. My 30-06 is getting a work out chasing buzzards away from new born caves and running off dogs bothering the momma cows. And the usual mending fences where cows broke through thinking the grass is greener on the other side.

Good morning. It's 45° and mostly cloudy with a small cave-in at one end of the culvert at the turn onto the main dirt road. The high will be 57° and there's an 80% chance of rain. That should help clear the culvert.

Well I thought I was going to have to go in search of a heavy duty push-button or rocker switch to fix the random tripping of the starter relay on my van. I'm pretty sure now that's being caused by a fault in the steering column and I'm not changing THAT out again unless I absolutely have to. Thanks to a suggestion from a poster on another forum I've found the switch I need and it's already in the dash. The siren switch in my old police air horn. It's more than heavy enough and what thief (who would want to steal a rough looking thirty-one year old van?) would think to TURN ON a siren to start a vehicle? Come to think of it that would be down-right comical to watch. If the weather cooperates I can do that today. If not it'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Aloha Paradise. Grey and supposed to snow downtown today - lake-effect - think I'll be home by then.  Hope everyone is feeling better soon. Spent all morning yesterday getting the airbag seat sensors swapped out of the SUV.  Brutus, Good news about Char. I get the same thing done this spring. Just had some surgery to prep for it last Fri. I viewed some of the O gauge layouts at that Festival of Railway Modeling in England. Gorgeous work!

It's 19F and Sunny here at 5280+ and they still say we will see some snow on Saturday.  Things at least melted enough yesterday that when I got home I was able to break away part of the road ruts in front of the house.

RI-Jack yep thats me, waiting for my IV lunch, nap after.

30 cloudy degrees with a couple inches of sno- expected overnight. Well it is winter and it's been a mild one so I can't complain. No train news but a nice chat with some of the guys last night....S.J.

 Stourbridge Lion:

OK, you made me post this (and now ducking for cover...)

Darren.........I looked at the picture and I believe it has been photo-shopped with Adobe software.  Someone superimposed Schwarzenegger's face on the guy on our left and Stallone's on the right.

After closer examination, the guy on the left is definitely SJ, can tell by the physique and the hair.  And the tattoos are a dead giveaway......that's Chuck on the right.  And they both like to take naps.  Laugh

Jack

When I was reading Jeff and Kev comparing pains it reminded me of some old war movies of Soldiers comparing battle wounds.  I was about to see if I could find a photo or video clip when I saw this headline on in the news "Arnold, Sly in Same Hospital".  They had a photo showing them laying next to each other and BANG, it seemed like it was the perfect photo.  Can you imagine the talk that these two were sharing in such a setting...

Jeff/Kev, I do feel for both of you and with my wife having 8 screws and 2 rods holding her spine together I know 2nd hand what it's like to live with major life long pain.  I also know when I find something that helps make the wife smile the pain seems to be less so please take this photo as nothing more then me hoping to have given you both a brief laugh / smile as well...
