Time for to call it a night. Got the new (to me) Walthers GP9 cleaned up and lubed. Pickups had lube oil on them when I took it out of the box. Not good for contact. A quick cleaning with CRC 2-26 took care of that. Fixed everything that was wrong (not much) except the missing horn. When I find another horn I'll probably mount them both on the long hood if for no other reason I just want to. Do I really need another reason?

Reclinerized.  Sore and stiff.  Old man worked hard for a few days.  Realized while cooking dinner [yes, Wifey had gone shopping with SIL for just a few minutes, 4 hours later as usual], I had a 6" rip in an almost new pair of Wranglers.  I know it had to have been when the hitch thing grabbed the fence and it hit me.  Why is it, every time she goes shopping for a period, she calls to check if I want her to bring me a meal as I have just started cooking me something. 

Two Tylenol PM's [just found out I am out of Tylenol Arithritis] and off to bed.

Back at work again and it has been an interesting few days. Looks like we finally got some major issues resolved though. The computer types and engineers have left (they don't do weekends) so things are quieting down again. Finally had a chance to catch up on the pot.

Chief - I like the new addition! I'll probably be living in something like that if/when I make the move to Safford.

Jack - big congas to you on the help to your friend. Thoughts and prayers for both of you.

Kev - I think the Coffee Pot is just a long winded  version of the Great Locomotive Chase

Anj - did the Daddy Wagon find a new home?

8N - glad to hear your mother is doing better.

Job change is progressing. The position opened this week internally. I typed in my resume last night (I lost the electronic copy years ago) and need to make a few updates on in and then put the application in online. Don't plan on going to crazy w/ this as they already know who they are getting. Hopefully we will know more in a week or so.

Here's what I spent part of my week off working on:

Gas tank is re-installed, coil wire replaced, centrifical clutch cleaned and oil changed, and new battery installed. The lights come on, but we have yet to get a spark out of it. Think it may be the points, but ran out of time on Tuesday. For those who haven't heard about this, it's a 1975 Honda CT90.

As Gordon Lightfoot once sang, "I'm on my second cup (or pot) of coffee and I still can't face the day". Gonna be glad when I'm no longer on these long nightshifts.

Saturday came and went too fast.  I was able to catch the Tardis this morning (Friday night for the fellas) and had a nice chat with SJ, Brutus, Charlie, and Kev for a few minutes.  They were in the process of solving world problems until I joined them.  My plans to start the layout project are delayed until tomorrow.  After my Tardis ride, my wife told me she was not feeling well and needed to have a nap.  I had to take care of some grocery shopping and dinner preparation.  After all that it was too late to start since I needed to have some fun with the kids as well.  I'm not too worried; I should be able to get the foam tomorrow after church and start.  I also have Monday off due to the holiday so I will be able to work on it then.

I hope you all have a great Saturday.  I need to finish some schoolwork and spend some time praying for all those/us in need.

Today is a busy day. I have a project to work on and the usual chores. I will be busy until naptime. Not going out today. Need to run trains. Maybe tomorrow.

  Cold and breezy here but I'm a going out right after I'm done writing this with the Flintlock til about 1PM.  Then gotta go down to E town to annual Train nerd party.  MIKE who works for BARRY has this annual bash for all his train buddies, and he has a lot of em.  So PAM and I will be dropping in this afternoon.

Ran trains last nite for 3 hrs.  I needed a good train fiz and got it NO PILE UPs.

CHIEF, what NO DIRT FLOOR?  BUCKEYEs gonna be jealous, he still has no wood floors.

KEV, just use the pliers on that tooth.  I did, it wasn't to bad.

Jeffery isn’t L&A now part of KCS? 

The L&A no longer exists. KCS dissolved it in 1992. My vision of the L&A is what if they had never bought the KCS. That's right, L&A bought KCS, not the other way around. The two were merged and KCS was the survivor. KCS handled the freight operations while the L&A handled passenger operations. The passenger trains including the Southern Belle were owned and operated by the L&A on KCS track. Waht if L&A had not bought KCS? Where would it be today? My freelance vision of the L&A is my view on that point.

 

Good morning. It's 35° and sunny. The high will be 63°. Looking like 32° for tonight.

Had a slight problem getting my van started yesterday. Weak spark. I had a very good idea what it was but didn't feel like tackling it just then. Took care of it this morning. The breaker points needed a slight adjustment. I don't have a gauge to use for it but a matchbook cover works in a pinch for me every time. Made the adjustment, test cranked it and got a good spark across the gap. Put the cover, rotor and cap back on then cranked it over. Fired up the first time. Engines thirty-one years old and still purring like a lion. My grandfather said it's hard to kill a 318. I believe he was right.

Today I plan to do some work on the junkyards. I had intended to do that yesterday but a CSX GP9 showed up and that project got pushed onto the back burner. Some bushes, a little glue, some weeds and a few details here and there should do it.

Saved all the skirting and track from old loacation.  It is set a lot lower here so have to cut off skirting.  Getting a new small deck kit to fit just under the sliding doors.  Saved the one from the old location for the back door.  Wifey has already got her landscaping plans for the front.  Now to get and bury the big electrical cable.  Then inside.  Take out walls except the utility room on the back corner [back door goes into it].  That will have the work bench and train "launch track".  Also want to use it for reloading ammo.  Got to take the ceiling off of the tongue grove and replace with thin plywood.  Now has spacklin and coming down.  Any one need kitchen cabinets, double sink, electric stove, washer, dryer, toilet, lavatory, shower and hot water heater [big one]?  Keeping side-by-side big frig for lake house extra.

Sorry, Chief, but this item in your plan is totally unacceptable. 

The "Chief Oversight Committee" with the strong recommendations of Beverage Committee Chairman, LAZ, has voted and has unanimously rejected this part of your plan.  

We will need every square inch of this appliance for adult beverages when we all surprise you and, uninvited, descend upon your place for a week this coming Summer. 

That being said, we will also need a like capacity at the Lake House, so you will also need another fridge.

Morning all.  Slept late.   Cold outside but warming.  Warming each day through Tuesday.  Going by Hunters Haven and Miss Edna's [Todd's Train Depot].  Need a day off.

Kev, calling the Great Norfolk Southern a short line is fighting words.  Stallions rule.   I'm getting even right now.  Look out side.  Rule number 1.  Don't mess with Mother Nature or the Chief.

Bob, you have about hit it on the head.  Long version of the Great Locomotive Chase except we are going to win this one.  BTW: haven't seen that movie in a long time.

Jack, why I am moving the frig to the lake house.  I'm sure all of the "Pot" is coming for a lake visit this summer.  After all, Buckeye is coming at the end of the month to "scout" things out.  He'll be on his "P's" and "Q's" so he doesn't get tared and feathered [like in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer].

How we got the box unstuck.  The JD wanted to spin.  So we made lots of big pots of Yankee oatmeal, poured it out in front of of the JD and let it harden for an hour.  Just like concrete.

Good morning everyone.  Watching Alaska State Troopers on tv.  Watched the DVR of Man Caves on building a "Train Cave".  Looked like a fun room they built.  For my birthday, my son gave me a HO scale Big Boy model, so we are heading to Hobby Lobby for supplies to put this together and paint it.

I am still on call and hope I don't have to go in.  So far, the only call was something I could handle over the phone.  Nothing like having a competent anesthesiologist to handle things with just a few words over the phone, let's me stay at home with the family.

Bob, nice project there.  With the prices of gas these days, may pay to get it running.  If the nut job in Iran keeps it up, prices may go even higher.  Good luck with that and the job.

Just let the dog out, it is cold out!  Still watching AST, note: it is hard to beat the dog!  Folks would be better off just surrendering.

Sorry to hear about things with Woodland Scenics, glad they Were able to.keep the damage to a minimum.

Chief doesn't need a fridge, as his new layout will conceal a working keg-o-rator, that will pour ice cold Yeungs from a reworked water tower. Pretty sweet, eh?

I got the decals applied to the CSX GP9. It looks good to me but I might not be able to enjoy it for long. I may get scalped, hung, shot, drawn and quartered and burned at the stake by a rampaging mob of incensed CSX fans.

Nice looking "box" Chief.  Glad you got it in there in spite of the fence damage.  BTW, NS is an imposter.  The real Norfolk Southern Railway was a little pike that meandered from Norfolk, Va. down to Raleigh, Charlotte, and some other spots in N.C.  They ran 10 wheelers and some berkshires in steam days on track that hardly ever saw real ballast but made do on slag and weeds.  I rode her once from Norfolk to Pinetown (near Washington, N.C.) and crossed the great Albemarle Sound trestle enroute.  They used Baldwin built AS614 6 axle diesels after steam and wound up putting two of them in the drink when the bridge over the sound collapsed.  Sadly, the engine crew didn't make it.

Kev, it's the rule that teeth problems always occur on weekends when you can't get to the dentist.  I haven't met a dentist yet that does emergency work on weekends.  However, I did get a broken partial fixed over a Christmas weekend back in the 60's sitting in some lab technician's garage while he worked on it but I did not see the dentist until after the holiday.

Got two more locos today. Two F3B dummies. One is a cast metal Varney unit, the other is a plastic lookalike with a late 50's, early 60's Athearn/Cox/Lionel frame. If I can figure a way to get that cast metal body on an Athearn power frame, traction city!

It was a beautiful day today in North Central Illinois. A lot of sun, no wind, crisp and clean air. Neat day to be out and I was for as long as my hand could take it.. A cold

 Yeah this tooth thing is kind of bugging me but it is not too painful and your right Ray they never called me back. Guess they want to make sure the INS will pay before they worry about me.

I watched two episodes of Rebel from 1960 this morning on MeTV, now I know who Chief’s idol was growing up.. 

Chief, by the way I did not say short, I said small. Everyone knows the big boys are UP, BNSF, NS, and CN among others but my point is it is just kind of sad how all of those little lines have been swallowed up into giants. I would have liked to seen that Norfolk Southern Railway little pike, Ray is talking about. 

I see that RMT has an even better sale going on now with free shipping on purchases over $100.00. I should of waited to get that Beep I got that did not really work on all 027 track configurations. They have a few other items I would like to check out.

SJ, for some reason the Beep has fixed its self on the switch stalling issue but now that I said that bet it comes back. 

LAZ did you get one with the flintlock????? If not I can post the pictures I shot today for you.

Afternoon all.  Great layout ideas while at Miss Edna's.  Could be going to Los Vegas Monday to the big Gun Show.  Hunter's Haven would take me as one of their employees.  Had to pay my way but with US Airways miles, the flight would be hardly nothing.  Too many meetings and the Box.

Now that deer season is over, lots of big foot prints at the feeders at the pond.  In fact, emptying them once a week.  Of course, we do have those pesty squirrels and a racoon or two.

Off to Fire Dept dinner.

Jeff, the "old guys" still hang around the FD here, most try to contribute in one way or another, some even do the Fire Police thing.  Me?  I still have a few years left before I can't do it anymore....at least 10.....  When I left in 1992, I missed it terrible.  And those Sutherners....you have no idea .....tried to retrain me in the FLORIDA mold.  Safe to say, I'm much happier here in Yankee land (hey at least we still use water to extinguish fires).

All HECK broke loose Friday...rain snow sleet wind...wraith of GOD stuff.  Temps went from 50's to 20's in 8 hours....where it is right now.

Good evening Y'all!  Chief, if that is the "Shot Show", I hear it is quite the event.  I have several friends who go to represent some of the companies.   If you get the chance, they have a gun range that rents fully automatic weapons of all kinds.  

Well, back from dinner and I didn't get called in, so it is a good thing.  Family is stuffed, friends have left.  I was invited to head out prairie dog hunting with these folks, but have to sit this year out as I have to stick around for the adoption agency's phone call.

DougM, how was the shooting venture?  Hope you had a great time.

Fife, that was a great thing you did for the hobby with the bank layout.  Who knows how many kids began to dream, and beg for trains.  And who knows how many fires you rekindled for the love of trains.

Jack, still praying for Frank and for you in dealing with this.

Time for me to call it a night. I did some work on the two dummy locos that came in today. One is a Varney F3B and it's all metal. It weighs in at one pound, and it's a dummy! It would take a strong loco to pull it and a train. I have got to fit that die cast metal body to an Athearn F7 powered chassis. That would make for some immense pulling power in a consist. The other F3B is very nearly identical in appearance except for color and the fact it's all plastic. I had to put some lead in the thing to keep the wheels from climbing the rails. It's been stripped and is an almost embarrassing shade of pink. Put a *** cancer awareness logo on it and it would almost look like it belonged there. It looks to be an early 60's model. I've seen the same body used by Varney, Athearn and a couple of others. The all metal one looks to be a 50's model. I bet I could get that body on the F3B powered chassis in my F3A-F3B-F7B all power consist.

Back from some travel this week. Worked on the train layout today - started the wiring for the new sections. A buddy came over and started cutting the ties from scrap for the tinplate track. Need to stain them tomorrow. The other guys started building placement and so far it looks great!.Plan to work most of the day tomorrow on it. Need to have it ready by Friday for the Plano show!

Kev - sorry about the tooth. Is the "thermostat" doing its job now the temps are finally low enough to exercise it?

Ouch - Denver is getting "Tebowed" by the Pats...

Chief - the "box" is nicer than your house - why don't you just swap?

GREETINGS Potters!

Today turned into a shopping day.  I had to run out to CVS to get some meds for my wife, then my son and I checked out a new store V-Stock, which is Vintage Stock actually.  They moved into the old Borders at S. County Mall.  Lots of new and used dvds, books, comics, and games - cool place!  I bought a couple used dvds and my son found a video game.  We then did the grocery shopping and by the time we got home it was like 7PM already. 

Tardis is ready, but few lights on the scope.  We'll be by in a bit, have to get the key to the banilla locker!
