Evening All,

Boy, miss a day or so and your pages behind.  I will have to use smaller font so I dont take up too much space.  (Especially after being referred to as a "Bookend".)

KEV,  Thanks for emailing me a the pictures of the Chief's "Box".  I'm a little apprehensive about his approach, normally he is rather vocal and "proud" of  a new acquisition, it surprises me that he is so clandestine about this.  If it IS indeed a "train room".  Most likely it is a picture of the Roseyville Civic Center, Library, Public Works, High School, Sanitation Department, Parks and Recreation Headquarters, and Sheriff's Station.  (He's a tricky one!)

Submmbob & Kev,  I like those bikes!   That would be just what I need to go back and forth to work on.  (Even though someone would probably say I would look like a tent on a roller skate.)  Good luck on the job, Bob!  Safford, eh?

V8Vega,  Hope you get to feeling better soon, you've had that stuff long enough!  Need to get rid of it, maybe some good old JD might help.  Saw on the news that they think they may have caught the Homeless Killer, hope so!  Also, couldn't believe that car that got pushed off the ferry in Newport Beach, it was miraculous that they were able to get the kids out, before the Van sank !

DDUG M, Anxious to hear about the trip up north and the shooting went.  Sure hope you get home safe.

Got our Christmas decorations all down and put away.  In the process the wife was walking across the garage floor with white socks on.  Yep, slipped ended up on her keester, fortunately after a trip to urgent care and x-rays, no broken bones.  So she is limping around kinda slow today.

Had a riot at the swap meet today, the vendor next to us was selling toilet seat covers, and after-market toilet "bidets".  He had two models, $60 and $90, the $90 unit was equipped with a heater for warm water.  Now what was hilarious was the guy selling them was from Korea with an extremely strong accent.  The customers were primarily Hispanic less than 40% which spoke English.  So watching the demonstration and explanation was a riot!  (He had a generator for recycling water.  And a cup positioned above the stream to deflect the water back down.  Watching the puzzled faces when people would see the toilet with this cup suspended above it, and water spouting up.  Then when they understood the reactions were great.  Chris was there with us, and it was everything I could do to keep him from going and getting a mini Baby Ruth and putting in the bowl.  This would have been outstanding as a TV show!! Laugh  (Forgot to mention he was playing classical music in the background.)

Going to go to Knotts tomorrow as they are having a celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the trains there.  Renaming one of the Engines for Walter Knott (founder of park), and doing Round House tours, as well as a "Dinner Train".  (Must be a fast food meal, as the track is only a 1/2 mile oval.)  But they are doing it up right with all the decorations, etc..

Going to get going, a friend of mine asked me to see what I could do for a layout idea for him.  So going to see if I can get something going on paper to start throwing around.

You all have a great day and God Bless

Hello all

About 29 degrees out tonight. Overcast skies and system coming in this weekend. Well we fixed a couple of issues only to be confronted by a third. My boss and the engineers will be less than excited about spending another work week up here.

Kev - nice motorcycle! Yeah, my tank has some rust in it too. I'll prob be changing fuel filters for a while.

Chief

How we got the box unstuck.  The JD wanted to spin.  So we made lots of big pots of Yankee oatmeal, poured it out in front of of the JD and let it harden for an hour.  Just like concrete.

Should have used an International...Whistling

And I think NS's grandfather had the right idea: Norfolk and Western, not southern.

Jeffrey - I like the new paint job on the CSX diesel! UP did that to all the old bloody-nosed SP diesels when they bought 'em out in 1995. So sad, and you never saw an ex SP engine on the point either. So it's nice to see it go the other waySmile, Wink & Grin

Dennis - was just watching the Big Boy collection this morning after I got off shift. Boy they are impressive. Got to see one in person in Denver, which I highly recommend. Now if only they could get one in steam againSurprise

Well I finished updating the resume last night and I needed to put in the application. Hopefully I can interview w/ the boys on my next week off and things will progress from there.

Good night all.  Four letter cuss word being used along with possible flurrie.  Mainly north of us [lake house area].   Fire Dept dinner was great.  Then Neice's party was at Carolina Ale House [which I hate, too loud and too drunk].  Actually Wifey and I walked out.  Being seating handled by some teeny boppers dressed like they were hot chicks.  Waited over 45 minutes to be seated.  Others coming in after us being seated because they were smaller numbers.  BIL told them, three empty booths sitting there together can handle 12 of us.  Told him they couldn't do.

sir james I

Good Evening

Home after a long day and out early in the morning to help get the trains running for the show. Tonight's club meeting went well, lots of chit chat. Chewed caribou hide for awhile.  No Banilla tonight,,,,I shall check-in tomorrow evening..S.J.

Good luck with the show tomorrow.  Is Charlie in charge of the dog sled parking? Whistling

Dennis, hope the OK call comes soon.

Bob, around here, the old N&S came before the N&W.  The N&W got eaten up when the new N&S came in.  Ray, I rode the N&W on the old N&S tracks too.  Also on some of the East Carolina RR [where the tracks hadn't been taken up].  They actually now run on the North Carolina RR around here [tracks leased to them by the NC RR Authority, State owned tracks].

Prayers for all [we all need them but some need extra].  God knows our needs before we ask.  Happened to me several times this past week. Angel

Sleep tight.

Evenin All.

Really pooped today. Yesterday was a MAJOR pain at the museum, DCS , need I say more. Super Angry Ended up pulling the MTH engines and going with K-Line TMCC. Will be there tomorrow, emergency replacement, and don't feel like fighting the DCS so it will be an Atlas & K-Line TMCC day for me. Maybe I'll play with the DCS on Monday before the kiddos start showing up and try to figure out the problem.

Don, When I read about the new buildings for the layout all kinds of names popped into mind based on the pool hall's name, unfortunately they can't be used in public. Devil

Did Knott's finish the restoration of the Goose that they had?

Roy, Got a track plan ?   Inquiring minds want to see.

John, Still haven't heard anything from the firechief yet. The grump is starting to get beyond grumpy to PO'd. Super Angry Considering placing a call to a GOOD friend on town council, didn't want to but if that's what it takes "so be it".

After all the time doing insurance research and finally recovering from sticker shock we are going with a Medicare Advantage plan. Wanted our own coverage but the cost was outrageous and the worst part was they all wanted to be secondary to Medicare. I mean why pay for a Mercedes and get a VW.

Traffic was horrendous around here yesterday, but the weather was beautiful. Heaven only knows how these fools would drive if they ever had snow here.

Time to call it a nite.

Nite all !

Mornin' boys.  Sunny and a crisp 27 here in the mid-Atlantic region.  Front of Fifedom is all decorated for the RAVENS game today.  Here, we call it FESTIVUS.  If we go on to beat the evil empire (how cheap was bringing in Denver's recent head coach...) in Foxboro, it will be FESTIVUS MAXIMUS.

Great game in the other Bay area.  A 49ers-RAVENS match-up would be a great Superbowl to watch.  Broncos had a great run of it; should be interesting to see what direction they take at QB.

dwiemer - Wifey said that the compliments were even better than the inaugural set-up.  The little ones enjoyed it, but the amazing reactions were the old ladies.  They would talk at length about how their Christmas trees had gardens that the whole family would take part of.  One fellow even came in and took measurements and checked "under the hood."

anjdevil - Joe Cool even sported a "Situation" hair-cut last year.

NS/CSX - Since I am also a rail-fan, I watched as they over-bidded each other for Conrail.  Even though it was sad to see Big Blue go, the split righted the wrongs of the PennCentral merger.  In the end, you wound up with CSX being the old B&O/C&O/Family Lines + New York Central, and NS being the marriage of N&W/Southern + PRR.  This scenario was already prepared in the early 60's by those in the know.

The big class 1's are only interested in conveying cargo from west-to-east, which has spawned off many successful regionals to fill that gaps in customer service.  Trackside is a more interesting place to be in 2012.

Hi GUYZ,

14 here with a little dust on the lawn.

Yesterday went out for the last time with the Flintlock.  At 9 AM. Cold at 26 with lots o wind.  I was in the WRONG place at the RIGHT TIME.  Was sitting on a blow down and was debating on where I should  have sat, either watchin a logging road or just stay off logging road to watch into the thicket.  Choose to watch the thicket from blow down.  At 1120 on the logging road from behind me came 4 deer, at about 20 yards away.  They came down the road with no noise until right along side of me.  I noticed the movement and though OH #$@^!  Deer Bang Head tried not to move, deer weren't interested in me, but instead of walking down log road they turned and went into brambles just off roadBang Head. I arose saw one deer about 40 yards away now just rear end and didn't have a good shot, waited.  Then saw antlers and that was it, deer just kept walking westward through thicket.  Never got a look at them againBang Head.  Hunted till 1:45 Pm. and No other deer.  This Flintlock Season was one of the best for me out in the woods, even though I didn't get a deer had lots of fun trying to figure em out.  Just when you think you're gonna get one they seem to defy logic.  Oh well like my BEARs and INDIANs, "Wait til Next Year".  Walked back to truck and shot off gun came home cleaned up gun then went down to E town for Train Nerd Party.  All was fun got back at 930, pooped fell asleep.

KEV, feel free to show all the deer pics you want, I got wide shoulders.  Rear end hurts at time from getting kicked alotEmbarrassedWink.

Gonna run some trains tonite.

Stay frosty,

Aloha Paradise. A nice day yesterday. I had so much fun. Due a last minute cancellation, we ended up shooting in a local indoor range and outdoor skeet club. Never knew there was so much around here. My friends had all sorts of weapons to try out. I was a pretty decent shot with the shotguns at the skeet against the snow. I could definitely get into this.

V8VegaDennis, hope you're feeling better.
Rich, what are Fire Police?
Smbob and Kev, awesome bikes!
Laz, you were truly hunting this season. Even though you didn't bag anything, it sounded like fun.

Good morning all!

I will have to find a way to post pics again. Tried Shutterfly a few years back and the program took over my PC and hammered me with spam. Any recommendations?

Doug M - glad the firearm outing was fun!

Off to work on the layout. Has to be ready by this Friday. Hope to be home to watch last half of Packers game.

Later....

Regards, Roy

Good morning. It's 38° and sunny. The high will be 66° and it will be mostly sunny. There's a 40% chance of rain tonight.

Speaking of rain, the most recent rains dropped a little over three inches on us.

Today I'm going to do some work on the F3B in my F3A-F3B-F7B powered consist. It has an Athearn super power frame but no super weight. If everything goes right it'll have the heavy die-cast metal Varney body on it by tonight. That will make the A unit of the consist the lightest of the three. The F3A and F3B both have Athearn frams. The F7B has a heavy Proto 1000 frame. If I don't get too busy with it and there are no interruptions I may be able to squeeze in some time to work on the junkyards. The metal F3B body has a dark primer on it already.

Konbanwa,

The wife was still not feeling very well this morning so we did not make it to church.  The only upside to not being at church was that the football games were.  I watched the last quarter of the SF-NO game and that was a great finish.  I watched the first two and a half quarters of the Den-NE game; the Pats looked unstoppable.  I made it to Joyful Honda (picture Wal-Mart, Lowe's, a furniture store, and a mini-mall all packed into two floors and 1000 times more people) to buy the foam for the under-the-bed layout.  The foam was more expensive than in the States and only came in 3' x 6' sizes.  I was hoping to buy a 4' x 8' sheet and cut it down to the size I want.  Due to the smaller sized sheet, I plan to buy some simple (cheap) 2 x 2s and build a quick frame for the foam to sit in.  I don’t need solid benchwork since the layout is going to be on the floor.  That will be done tomorrow and it will give me the size I wanted.  I also found some green felt like material which will work great for our grass mat/ground cover.  It's time for bed now.

Roy - I have used Photobucket the past two years without any problems.

Joe

25 degrees and cloudy, might to 32 today with more sun this afternoon.

LAZ. Sorry that you did not get the big one this year. Sounds like you did get a lot of quality time in the wood and that is almost as good. Better luck next year. Same for DaBears. Laugh

Roy,

Freeze protection system in the shed is doing the job as per plan. Yes

I use Shutterfly and their spam goes straight into my spam folder so I never see it. Would like to see pictures of the layout.

Joe, Hope the wife feels better soon and keep up the work on that layout. I may want to copy it for the grandson’s trains.  Wink

Fifedog, seems to me that U the man for railroad questions. I have never been into that much history. We do a have BNSF main line north of us in Somonauk IL.and a UP main line south of us in Ransom IL. They pull some long, long trains on those lines. Surprise

DougM Glad you had fun even if you did not get to go up north. Smile

Not much planned for today, think I am going to take a small hike in the woods before the wife gets up.

Later, Have a good one.

Jack, road trip to the Chief's new box!

Been a while since I lived there, Doug.  There were far more shooting venues/options back when.  The Northbrook Gun Club (Northbrook IL not too far from you) and the Lincoln Park Gun Club on the lakefront in Chicago to name two.........both gone, but they were great for both skeet and trap.  Indoors on the far North side, edge of Chicago, Lincolwood, and Skokie, intersection of Crawford and Lincoln Avenues ........Gabby Hartnett's, range underneath the bowling alley, but I think they may have pulled out too due to insurance issues.

There's another indoor range still open on Manheim Road near/just South of O'Hare.  Fond memories of years of shooting with my Dad.  Your son will never forget these times with you. Thumbs Up

Got down to a brisk 5 overnight, 12 now, and high teens for later in the day.  Plate is full with a buddy Frank visit in PT......yup, they got him up and out of the hospital, and they are working him over on an inpatient basis for the next 6 days.

Putting away Christmas decorations, shopping, and dog training later.  I am going to be hard pressed to get in any football viewing today. SadBang Head  Patriots easily dismantled Tebowmania and the Broncos last night.  SF is the real deal!!!!!  One of the best playoff games in years, especially the finish.  WOW!!!!!

Later.

It took a little doing but I got the Varney die-cast metal F3B body to fit on an Athearn F7 frame in my F3A-F3B-F7B consist. Now I just need to find some black paint. The antique metal shell takes the place of a Proto 2000 F3B shell which quite honestly was making the F3A and F7B look bad as they're lower quality shells. The consist reads as a real laundry list.

F3A. Athearn frame, Blomberg trucks and shafts. Proto 2000 motor, DZ125 decoder, Stewart F3A shell.

F3B. Athearn frame, Blomberg trucks, shafts, motor. DZ125 decoder, Varney die-cast metal F3B shell.

F7B. Proto 2000 frame, Proto 2000 AAR trucks, Athearn worms/shafts, Power Points West motor, DZ125 decoder, Athearn Hi-F F7B shell.

Roy -- take a look at Photo Bucket for storing your images, it has worked very well for us over the years.

We arrived back home last night from MPLS, we literally fought our way north last Thursday through terrible winds and snow showers that turned into ground blizzards.  Fortunately we drove out of them before hitting the cities.  We said goodbye Friday to a very dear cousin who fought a courageous battle against Leukemia since March, we really thought she was going to beat it but that was not to be.  Two years ago all 9 of those cousins (Sharyl's side) were at our son's wedding in MPLS and were in excellent health, now two of them are gone (Sharyl's sister lost the battle in May to Pancreatic cancer), just doesn't seem possible, especially for those two as they lived very healthy life styles.  There is no explanation.

We are working hard on our final details for our Alaska trip in June.  We both want desperately to include the Alaskan train trip to the itinerary plus spend time in Denali, I know it can be done--what we are waiting on now are the final costs.  This will be a one time trip for us to Alaska so we want to do it right.

Sad to see the Bronco's lose last night, we finally gave up and went to bed as we were both beat.  Now just waiting for the Packers game, GO PACK GO!!!!

28 and winter cold.

Home, rest now. The modular layout was a big success as usual. I took a walk around before the show opened and found a boxed 4 car set of New Marx CP passenger cars. NIB. $50.00. I checked my price book when I got home and they are listed at $150.00 new. Charlie is going to post a picture of them for me. Stay tuned....S.J.

Good evening everyone.  Quick post before heading back to church.  I had to handle double duty today for both video camera and taking stills.  We had a rolling out of sorts for the new master plan which is  a $20 Million dollar deal.  It is going to be focused on buildings and redoing the whole church, except the sanctuary.  This plan also calls for eight more church plants in this country.  One will be in Cleveland, so I may head up there and visit.  Also, several million in new missions projects.

Laz:" I arose saw one deer about 40 yards away now just rear end and didn't have a good shot, waited. Then saw antlers and that was it, deer just kept walking westward through thicket. Never got a look at them againBang Head. "

Laz, you could have always taken a "Texas Heart Shot".  Had the same thing happen when hunting in Colorado.  Had a Mule deer bedded down about 10 feet from where I sat before first light.  At light, he stood, looked at me and walked away.  I waited for a broadside, and when it finally came, I shot and hit a branch between he and I.  He got away.  If I had taken the close up shot, I would have had him.

Jon, my condolences.  Tough thing, especially when it has struck more than one in such a short time frame.  Prayers for comfort and peach to your family.

Gotta go, but I pray that each of you has a blessed week ahead.

Dennis

Thought I had better do this before I get the upcoming dentist bill.

I just ordered a new CSX Bang and the CSX caboose to go with it. A great deal for $114.96 with free shipping but stupid me I forgot to enter the coupon number to get the free shipping. Bang Head Bang Head I sent Walter e-mail asking for his forgiveness hope if does. But even if he does not, still a good deal for $132.62. Spent an hour or two in the basement working on the layout, track screws and stuff. Got out some diffrent stuff and put some away.

Jon, sorry for your loss.   Angel  The Alaska trip sounds like it will be a wonderful time. Take that train ride.

Charlie I want to see those pictures of of SJ's new find.

That's why we hunt.  You never know whats next.  I'm at the point where I only try to take the one shot that counts, especially with the flintlock but then again you just don't know if its gonna go off?

Afternoon all.  Still Yankee cold outside. Crying  Northeast winds but suppose to turn to the Soutwest soon and that means warmer. Big Smile Even the cats and dogs want to stay inside today.

Was going on the roof of the Box and check thinks like roofing tar around roof vents and etc.  Too chicken to fight the cold winds. Wink

Watching back to back westerns on AMC.  Staying warm.

Jon, sorry for all the losses.  Been a tough 12 months for you all.  Bright side is the Alaska trip.

All stay warm.

Next, I'll have him joining the NRA. Yes

Laz, you were truly hunting this season. Even though you didn't bag anything, it sounded like fun.

FYI: LAZ never scores when hunting. Whistling

Jack, road trip to the Chief's new box!

Doug, you are always welcome [notice I did not say Jack Wink].

Nice find for SJ.  You must have seen it and pointed it out to him.  BTW: I see a Canadian grain hopper next to the box.

KRM

I just ordered a new CSX Bang and the CSX caboose to go with it. A great deal for $114.96 with free shipping but stupid me I forgot to enter the coupon number to get the free shipping. Bang Head Bang Head I sent Walter e-mail asking for his forgiveness hope if does.

Walter from RMT sent me an e-mail and is going to give me the free shipping…Big SmileYes.... I now have the start to my CSX line.

I had a nice hike in the woods this morning around the property. A lot of deer tracks all over and I found a spot where they have been beading down not far from the house. Wind has picked up a lot. Started a fire for George.

Have a good night.
