Jeffrey, didn't know you were a firefighter.  You probably mentioned it before but I must have missed it.  My next door neighbor is a firefighter also but he is retiring now on a disability.  He has had a lot of wear and tear too.

I've been semi-retired for about five years. They don't let me go into the fires anymore and I can't fault them for that. I can still run the pumps and help with training.

Sunny and in the low 50's today.

Got the Polar Express layout disassembled.  Working up a new track plan for next year's display.  Still going to be 'three times around', but the uphill grade will go around the outside of the layout.  I think this arrangement will provide a better back drop to display the trains against.

All for now.

Evening All,

Jack, Sure admire you for what your doing!  Hopefully, his family will step in and help out.   If necessary you may want to contact Hospice, they are truly angels in times of need.

Jeffrey, Its a good thing you don't live out here, falling DVD's could be a dangerous event, especially it there are any discs without covers.  (I have plenty.)

Had a productive day today.  Got all the outside Christmas decorations down, cleaned up and put away.  We were lucky this year, very little wind, our display did not blow over one time.   The first in a LONG time.

Did get my Pool Hall (Sloppy Shot's) modified last night.  Took out the panes in the front window, modified the interior a little bit.  It looks pretty good.  Next going to do some adaptations to the Dance Hall, need to come up with a name for it yet.

Didn't get anytime for the Eagle today, hopefully tomorrow.

Chief, Hope the move goes well.

Take Care and God Bless.

Don

I keep those in those little CD pouches you see kids using a lot.

Time for me to call it a night. Looks as though I'll have the heater on low tonight. Expecting a low of 42. I got the vehicle castings set out in two junk yards today. A small one with four or five vehicles just in front of the north engine house next to the fence and the other is near the back of the layout behind the Shell near an old water tower and freight shed. Other than that I didn't do much.

See y'all tomorrow.

Good evening everyone.  Been very busy, but doing well.  Got the whole network working, including a new blue ray player that is hooked up to the wireless router so we can also watch Netflix in our bedroom.  this will allow my bride and I to watch one movie in one room, while the kids watch something else in another room.  We may even do away with the satellite TV.

Jack, your efforts speak volumes of your character.  Unfortunately, I have seen too many times when family abandons people during their darkest hour.  While your efforts have not produced the outcome desired at this time, it sounds as if you are the closest thing to Family Frank has.

Chief, I know I have seen advertisements for a waterless toilet that they sell for campers.  That may be a good solution for your Box.  Good luck with things.

Laz, one of the guys I work with got two bucks that he found with their racks locked from fighting.  They were dead, so he cut of the heads and is having them mounted.

Hope to check in soon.  God bless

Dennis

Prayers guys.

Another warm and sunny day in Saint Louis.  I had to take off a little early from work for a dentist appointment.  This is a new place as our insurance changed.  These guys have the electronic/computer x-ray machines, not films.  We've been to places that have both, but the last 2 were old school setups.  Anyway, they said I have an old filling that is failing, so I'll have to get that replaced, plus some tiny tiny cavities between a couple teeth?  So, I get to go back in a month and get that all filled - blah.

Sounds like you fixed that shelf, Jeff - hope it hold up now!

Chief - sounds like a heck of a job, be sure to pace yourself!

Dennis - the kids and I really like online Netflix, but wish they would expand their selection a bit faster.  There are so many movies online, though, that you could never watch them all.  I do like that I can see what everyone has been watching too.

Neat ornaments, Rich!  RT, that's a nice gift man!

TARDIS is ready, so let's get a move on!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hi GUYZ,

22 and frosty here.  Getting to 45 and then rain.

DENNIS, we usually have a story in the paper here about two deer locking up but haven't seen one yet.  Your buddy sure has a nice mount coming.  Probably bigger size racks too.

ANJDEVIL, nice fireman ornaments.  Wonder if FIFE has coppers on his tree?

CHIEF, all I gotta say is WATCK your TOPKNOT or whats left of itSurprise?

Stay frosty,

Not much going on today but I got up with the wife anyhow to see her off to work.

Going to be nice today in North Central Illinois another 50 + day but the bottom will fall out tonight. They are calling for 3" to 6" of the snow for tomorrow so we will see. Got my batteries charged up for my Raynaud's disease heated gloves in case I have to get the tractor out to clear the ½ mile long drive in the morning. Bang Head

Finished the required surgery on the Beep to make it work on the 027 reverse curves. It now works great. Yes

DougM looks like your going to get the biggest blast of the white stuff. You can bet nobody will know how to drive in it tomorrow. Surprise

Dennis, too bad LAZ does not have your friend’s luck.  Laugh

Jack, keep up the good work for your friend frank. Angel

Chief, Good luck on the move of the box. When you set it just dig a hole under it and call it a PortaBox. Wink

Don, Would like to see pictures of your Sloppy Shot’s pool hall, sounds cool.  Stick out tongue

Roy, Glad to hear your getting some rain just hope it is not too much too fast.  Lightning

RT, hope you’re feeling better today. Huh?

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a cold 27 degrees. Going up to 40 today with a chance of rain.

Today is a busy day. I have to run a few errands. The usual chores and a project to work on. Maybe I can catch a nap later.

Roy....I went down to the train room, for the second time, last weekend. Ran trains for 2 hours.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Cristal Clear Taxachusetts,

I want to thank each and all of you for your continued prayers for my buddy Frank.  I sincerely believe they have made the difference.

Strange but positive things have occured in roughly the past two days since my last post, mainly that my buddy has defied the odds and has surprised the CCU hospital staff, making improvements that even his Doctor described to me, as she put it, "amazing, seldom seen in a patient with such a poor initial prognosis and response to treatment."  While he won't be going home anytime soon, he seems to have turned the corner.  Keep the prayers coming!!!!!

Mornin' Fellas

Got down to the trainroom Monday night and did some additional work on the under girder bridge, built the short extension on tunnel side of the river, found that I can indeed move the subroad bed away from the river and started planing the rest of the modifications to that area. I hope to get down there tonight to finish the modifications, get the abutements built for the steel arch bridges, and start working on the plaster cloth scenery base. Still no word from Scenery Express on the flexible concrete wall sections so I guess I'll have to change to the cut stone or field stone walls. Disappointing, but I can live with it.

Jack - That is AWESOME news about Frank! Angel prayers will continue Angel

Rich - Nice ornaments. My sister bought us similiar style ornaments for Christmas, one is a Noah's Ark for Christina's first Christmas and the other is a man and woman decorated in Steeler and Ravens colors!

Starting to plan the next home improvement project. For Christmas TheQ bought me a flooring nailer, so we'll be replacing the Familiy Room carpet with a bamboo floor within the next few months! Looking forward to it because if all goes well, we'll be putting a cherry floor in the Dining Room and Living Room this Fall. Also started to look at doing some work in the unfinished area in the basement. I would like to move the hot water heater from under the stairs over to an area near the furnace. Since we're on all electric there is no concern about gas lines and CO emissions. After looking at the plumbing it looks like that portion will be a cake walk (will actually make the hot water run shorter so it should reduce the time it takes to get hot water to the rest of the house). The major sticking point at this time is determining how wide to make the opening between the finished basement and the unfinished area? I was thinking 36 inches, but is that wide enough? Maybe go to 40"? I kind like the 40" opening because it will give a little more room to get stuff into and out of the closet I'll be putting under the stairs. The nice thing about this project is I can work on it throughout the year without an major issues from TheQ. Just have to figure out if I want to frame the new utility area (furnace and hot water heater area) prior to moving the tank. I kind of think I need to because I need to move the electrical shutoff and I need studs to attach it to... Also need to determine if I want to install a pocket door and if I do a pocket door, do I want a single 36" door, or do I do a double 30" door? UGH!

Aloha. Paradise Looks like the days of 50 degrees are ending today with 3-5 inches of snow coming in. Oh well, it was good while it lasted and gives me an excuse to spend more time on the layout.  Sounds like quite a project, Brent. Give yourself plenty of space to access  and work around the equipment in the new space.  Jack, glad to hear good news about your friend.

Morning everyone.  Nursing a headache this morning, but hope to be up and about shortly.  Wife surprised me with a Woodland Scenics orange grove this morning.  Since Hobby Lobby has dropped all but the most basic trains, and they are now either HO, or N scale, I have to either buy on line or wait for the once a year train show to make purchases.  Fortunately, the train show is on the 21st of this month.  I mainly need just some people and scenery items.

Jack, keep up the good work, and we will keep up the prayers.  We have seen answered prayers amoung this group, so never count someone out.  I have also witnessed too many miracles at work to think we are in control...we all answer to the higher authority.

Don, wanted to let you know the package arrived.  Haven't had to install yet, but when this set runs out, it will be done.  Thank you!

Hope each of you has a blessed day,

Dennis

Konbanwa,

I went for an easy two-mile run this morning to start the day off right.  The work day went by fairly quickly and nothing too exciting happened.  I was home for an early lunch and tried to connect with the Tardis crew but they missed my beacon.  The wife made chili for dinner and peach cobbler for dessert.  I just finished some schoolwork and will be off to bed shortly.

Doug - I did see those.  I don't know much about the originals, but I'm wondering if the reproductions will run on three-rail track.  They would be fun to have around.

Roy - No worries.  I hope the progress keeps going well.

Dennis - Happy Birthday!

Jack - That's positive news.  I'll keep praying.

Sayonara,

Joe

Good morning. It's 47 and mostly cloudy. The high should be 63 and it will be partly sunny. Isn't that the same as mostly cloudy?

Well I got a start on a couple of junk scenes. I still have to add bushes, weeds and some details.

I also placed a couple of junk vehicles by an old freight shed.

There's still two van boxes, a storage tank and a five vehicle junkyard scene to place. So much to do.

sir james I

Kevin good job on the beep, now if you could just figure out how to keep one from stalling on a switch the Beep world would thank you..S.J.

S.J. What kind of switches are you using? I have already seen this same thing with my 027 42" R switches where it would stop dead but it was only on one of four. I raised the wide center power rail a tad and now it runs over it fine.  Yes  Just kind of bent it up some with a 90-degree pick. It will slow on the 027 switch if I run it too slow but only now and then.

I think it was shorting out because of the slop in the points. Just a guess. This thing is keeping my mental juices flowing. So that is a good thing. All in all it came out good and runs well around the small sawmill loop. Big Smile

Jack glad to hear the good news on Frank Angel

Brent, sounds like you have plenty to do. I am planning to do the same thing with my utility area in the basement. I was going to look for a damaged or dented double door to use so I would have a lot of room to move things in and out. I will need to put vents in the doors or walls because I am on LP gas.

Good Morning CTT Fans!

Sorry I have been AWOL these past few days as W**K has been overwhelming my time including basically working Day and Graveyard on Monday; so no RR time for Darren. Crying

Was over 60F yesterday and it's 20F and snowing today.  Got to love the weather here as it's a constant crap-shoot and funny to watch our Weather folks try to out guess what is happening several days in-advance.

Well, thank you Laz!

Just a quick return to let everyone know about an episode of "Man Caves" on DIY network on Friday the thirteenth. It is on a train room.  Also, right now on American Restoration, they just got a train ride that was about to be scrapped.  Cool stuff.

Take care, dennis

Lunch time,

Thanks for all of the prayers and support for Kyle. Doug, Rich, I am sure that he will appreciate the patches. Doug, I sent you my address. For some reason this site does not like my home computer. It will not let me post, so I have to do it from work.

A new Local Train Shop opened up near me in Forked River (Lacey Twp), All Aboard Trains. The owner seems like a nice guy and I hope he does well. I know of 3 of his customers including myself.

I wish everyone the best in the coming year and I am hoping to be in York this spring.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

Have you tried a different browser? Trains'.com has no love for my computer when I'm using IE or Safari. So I use Firefox as my primary browser and Opera as my secondary browser. No problems to date.

On the IE browser problem, many have encountered compatibility issues. They try to post and all they get is a blank post. If this is the case you need to look to the right of the IE address bar for an icon that looks like a torn piece of paper. Click it once and it should solve your problem. If not switching to another browser may be the answer. Cookie settings are also an issue. Cookies must be enabled or you will not be able to post.

Good morning all,

Jack, good news about Frank. Angel

Dennis, Happy birthday and many moreHappy B-Day

Chief, hope the rain doesn't bother your "box" move.

Jeffrey, my firefighter neighbor ran the pumps too and drove the truck on his last assignment.

Been experimenting with my new oximeter and realize what a difference the supplemental oxygen makes that I use at night or when flying.  Now if I go to the mountains, I can see what effect the altitude has on my blood oxygen and know when to use my POC.

Don, sounds like you got some interesting buildings at the show.

V8, sorry you got the flu but hope you get over it soon.

I think my new WBB ten wheeler should arrive today.  Keeping an eye out for FEDEX.

Chuck, glad to hear you are making it down to the train room more often now.  Keep it up.

Doug, looks like your "White Christmas" is arriving now.

Have a good one y'all,

Ray

The IE issues are related to IE9, not IE8. If you have installed, or your computer came with IE9 installed, you can revert back to IE8 by opening Windows Update, go to 'Installed Updates', select the IE9 update and click remove. It will uninstall IE9 and install IE8.

I personnally HATE IE9. I have no idea why Microsoft feels the need to bastardize all of their interfaces to look like the crappy Apple interfaces. Just because the 'experts' claim the Apple UI is better, doesn't make it so. But that is just my opinion after being in system and application development and design for 20+ years!

I run Windows XP with IE8. My IE8 has problems with the forum, mostly lost and recovered tabs or conveniently 'forgetting' tab settings or crashing altogether. Clicking the compatibility icon has little or no effect. Therefore I refuse to use that browser. I see no advantage in upgrading to IE9 (is that an upgrade? Adding more problems to the current pile of MS problems?). That would require me to upgrade to Windows 7 and that costs a load of money I don't have. I didn't upgrade to Windows XP until I found an unopened upgrade CD at a yard sale for $10.

dwiemer---> Happy B-Day

laz - Not much on work related ornaments.  I prefer tropical themed stuff like flamingos, sailboats, and palm trees...oh, and trains.

anjdevil - Best wishes on the interview front.
