Good morning all,

Had a wonderful Christmas with the family.  Oldest son and his family didn't arrive until about 5:00PM yesterday but they were just in time for dinner.  We had a spiral cut ham with scalloped potatoes with cheddar cheese on top. Green beans was the vegetable.  We opened all the gifts after dinner.  No trains but I got a new book about the N&W Y class engine.  Also got a new monitor for the computer which is very nice and larger than the old one.  Got the new book about Jack Kennedy which seems like a good read.  Grandson asked for and received from us some kind of in home studio device for making your own recordings etc.  My son picked it out for us.  The whole thing would have been too technical for me.  Anyway, that's what the grandson wanted so he got it.  He is already out of room for more trains.  He is running three gauges off and on.  He also got a new guitar case for the electric guitar he got for his birthday in October.  We got lots of chocolate candy from several sources.  I don't dare eat much of that or I will look like a ball with arms and legs.

Dennis, hope you wil be feeling better soon.

Kev, yes dullcoat is what I use too made by testors in a spray can.

Ran trains on my carpet central/Christmas tree layout yesterday.  Ran the Lionel 2-8-0 with vanderbuilt tender with sound in addition to my Lionel General.  The 2-8-0 sound quit working for a while until I fooled around with a wire underneath and got it going again.  I really like the engine but the wire handrails and stanchions on the tender are pretty fragile.  Seems like I break something everytime I pick it up.  So much for Lionel's claim of "big trains for little hands".  Anyway I wil crazy glue the part back on.

Have a good day y'all,

Ray

Good Morning CTT Fans!

Hope all had a good holiday with friends and family.  It's currently 27F here and overcast but the forecast looks to be heading for a small heat wave that should melt most the snow that fell the over day.

SNOW??????  What is that?  WhistlingWink

Morning all!

Woke up too early today. Ugh - lot's 'o coffee thus morning!

Cloudy today, some drizzle and 50's. Going to 60's and drying out though next weekend. Jeffrey - we would be happy to have you push some of the rain back our way.

Kev - Testor's Dulcote is good also. But is comes in small cans.

Fife - sorry about your friend.

Dennis - glad you are better but sorry for the kids. That is the way it is with young ones about - colds, etc., just boomerang about all winter.

No flanged wheels for Christmas but got my MTHRRC Lionel Corp tinplate O gauge searchlight car and it s a beaut!

Taking it easy today. May go work on a layout we are prepping for a local show in January.

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

For a mossy look for the roof I would recommend using an appropriate acrylic or latex moss green color. I would use flat latex and dry brush it on. For a flat look I would use Valspar Clear Flat spray. For the white chinking between the logs I would use FolkArt 'Cabin Gray' acrylic paint. I use it to fill in mortar lines on brick structures.

Thanks Jeffrey. I will try to find that stuff and give it a try.

Jeffrey, I got this Plasticville log cabin kit coming and I want to paint white chinking between the logs and spray it with something that will make it not look glossy. What do you use for the flat look? What would you use to add a moss look to the roof?

Morning.  Off to Raleigh to buy a cargo carrier for hitch on 4Runner.  Will use it to go deer hunting.  4Runner get better gas mileage than big engine pickup.  Harbor Frieght has them and I have a special coupon for a discount.

Grandkids coming later today.

Sunny and cooler but still warm for Dec.

Fife, sorry for the loss of co-worker.

Good Morning

36 w/sun

Some of you are still having Christmas today, sounds like fun. Official holiday so no mail means no Christmas bills till tomorrow. DIL found a Lionel book I didn't have so I got that yesterday and I  bought an RMT Beep from Walters 1 day sale that added another 10% off his already 1/2 price. Add a couple tree ornaments and that was my train Christmas. Me thinks this will be a do nothing day...S.J.

Hi Guys,

Got the mother-in-law, brother-in-law coming over today as well as the daughter, future son-in -law and the two grandkids. We saw most of them on Christmas eve but future son-in -law Dan’s son Dan Jr. (7 years old) was not there so we decided to do ours gift exchange here today. It will be fun because Jr. loves toy soldiers and I got him an old Lionel Commando Assault Train set that I put a bridge rectifier into so he can run it on the AC power. So I will be in the basement with Jr. for sure.  Yes

I got the flood light and the K-Line sawmill working yesterday for today, pluse planted the trees we got at menards. The layout is starting to take shape. Big Smile

I cooked a ton of spaghetti sauce yesterday in the crock-pot so all I have to do is plug it in and let the women cook the noodles. Smile, Wink & Grin

Jeffrey, I got this Plasticville log cabin kit coming and I want to paint white chinking between the logs and spray it with something that will make it not look glossy. What do you use for the flat look? What would you use to add a moss look to the roof?

Have a good day all!

Tks,

Kev.

Good morning. It's 50° and wet. The high will be 56° and there will be more rain. There's a 60-70% chance of rain and thunderstorms all day. The lake is now only a foot and a half below it's normal level. It had been more than four feet down.

Well, nothing but rain and more rain today IF the weather guesser is correct. I can hear the rain pounding on the roof at this time. At the moment I'm fresh out of new projects to work on. I have more things to work on coming but it's going to be three days to a week before they get here. One thing I found is an Accurail DT&I covered hopper. It looks way to clean! It should be here in two or three days. Two other items, HO Mystery Machine van and package of Stoney Mountain vehicle castings should be here at the end of the month or the first few days of January. I believe I mentioned I had talked with my niece and her son yesterday. Colorado is a good distance from here but they came through loud and clear. My mother was talking with them on the phone in the library (her favorite room) and I was on the phone in my fathers study. The kid is an out and out train nut. My niece blames my mother and I for that. I've been a train nut all my life and my mother liked to play with trains, cars and guns when she was young (none of the doll stuff for her!). She really enjoys holiday trains. My younger sister was the same way pretty much. She was forever invading my train room and running my trains while I was out. The flanged wheel fever seemed to skip her daughter (my older niece). Is it any wonder that her daughters kid has train fever? Well, there's also the fact that I've been helping inundate him with all sorts of train related stuff for the past couple of years. My mother is the prime offender. She set him up with the whole Thomas series. When he's old enough to appreciate them I'll send him a bunch of photos of what I've done and see if I can kick him into the world of layout building.

Morning all.  Fife, so sorry to hear of your friend's loss.  Especially this time of year, the holidays get dampened with the loss and will always be.  Well now, both kids are sick too, so the bride is holding down the fort.  Joe, if I were feeling better, our tree would be coming down now too.  The plan is to take down decorations and start getting the bedrooms ready for our two additions.  Wife may go shopping later for the sales, but with the rest of the household under the weather, she may just try to sneak a nap in.  She has been a trooper.

One of the gifts for our son was the Lego Starwars Deathstar, this thing is huge!  Has more than 3800 pieces.  He is doing the assembly all by himself, though I am sitting next to  him for moral support.  I did not get anything with flanged wheels, except a Christmas Train snow globe.  I need Jack's help on dropping hints!

Gotta run, have a blessed day

Dennis

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Clear & 46 as me and Fifemax "shared" the sunrise outside.  Youngest princess is having a struggle with all this new responsibility.  Hasn't caught on to the fact that getting into everything is a puppy's job.  So, growing pains there.

Had a nice Christmas.  I was first up!  Got my Railking WESTERN MARYLAND RS-3 from my family.  And Fifepup saved up mucho dinero for a top line RAVENS jersey (#92) for me.  Wifey (the hostess with the mostest) prepared crabcakes and ham for dinner.  Toughest part was that my folks are in WV, and my Mom had the boo-hoos.  We'll fix that tomorrow.  Probably gain ten more pounds by Friday...

Friend and co-worker succumbed to cancer Christmas eve.Sigh

rt - sorry 'bout your loss.

Blueberry - Happy for your triumph.

Konbanwa,

The day after Christmas was a very nice one.  We had a very easy morning but things picked up in the afternoon.  The wife wanted to rearrange the living room so we had to take down the Christmas tree; it was dead anyway.  The tree coming down led to all the decorations coming down somehow.  This is the earliest we have ever done that; no particular reason either.  We still have Christmas presents to play with and movies to watch and treats to eat so it is still Christmas to me.  I am still on leave this week as well which will be nice.

I’m sorry for our Bears fans; the Packers beat them up.

Chuck - That is fantastic news - great job!

RT - I'm sorry you lost one of your cats.

Sayonara,

Joe

Good evening. It's 48° and cloudy. The low tonight will be 45° and there's a 70% chance of rain tonight and tomorrow.

I still have three Christmas items coming. A pack of flawed castings (vehicles, crates, wheels, etc) from Stoney Mountain Classics, an Aurora HO Mystery Machine Scoody Doo van and an Accurail DT&I covered hopper that I nearly tripped over for $10. It's condition is rated as C6. It's missing the ladders on one end.

This evening I went to my parents place for Christmas dinner. Cornish game hens, homemade dressing that puts StoveTop to shame, green beans, collard greens, french bread and green onions. Not a fancy meal nor simple. I helped them out by collecting the dishes, put the leftovers away and cleaned up the kitchen while my mother washed the dishes. I had no sooner than pulled into their south driveway than my van had a vacuum line blow apart and went to running like crap. Luckily I carry a redneck vacuum line repair kit. JB Weld and electrical tape. I glued the line back together and taped it up good. By the time I was ready to go home the glue was dry and the van runs good again. The hose should last until I can get another one. I also came away from heavy one bag of seven oranges my father gave me. My older niece (the one in Colorado) called while I was there and I got a chance to talk with her and her three year old son. The kid is a CERTIFIED TRAIN NUT! I can't imagine how THAT happened! I've only been sending him toy trains, train pictures and a Thomas puzzle and maybe a few other train related toys since he was old enough to know what a train is. His mother says he's absolutely cuckoo about any and all trains. Seems to me I was like that at that age. Oh well, time will tell.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Kev hang onto the Tardis, Brutus will be there when he finds the keys. If he comes this way there's plenty of Banilla...S.J.

SJ, That is the problem, I can’t hang on to it, it has gone wild or one of Santa’s elves is driving it. Or stuck in it. Surprise

Brutus,

Please hurry and find the keys!!

First all production at the sawmill had to stop because the Tardis landed on the roof, and those guys are getting triple time today.

Next it landed by the yard tower and the secretary thought it was a new Outhouse and could not get in, and as you can see she is very unhappy. I think she still needs to go.

Who is driving this thing????

Kev.

Evenin' All.

What a Joyous Christmas this has been. Small group , only 9, grandson gave me an extra special gift which brought a few tears that hopefully no one noticed. Can't tarnish my image. Grumpy

Everybody is gone and most of the dishes are cleaned , got maybe two more loads for the diswasher. Now just vegging with the Packers/Bears game on, checking the forum and listening to an Alabama Christmas album. Does that qualify as multi-tasking ? Smile

Wow Way to go Toots ! Thumbs UpThumbs Up

RT,  As has been said they become more than just a pet and their demise hurts.

Prayers for those in need.

Hope all had a very Merry Christmas !

P.S. Jack, Did the "subtle" hints payoff ?????  Big Smile

Ho  Ho  Ho.....

I did it !!!!  Went down the stairs to the train room and ran trains for an hour. Boy, do I have a lot of cleaning to do. Ran my new car and will post pictures later.

Chuck

Chuck!!! Yes  Big Smile

What a wonderful Christmas you must of had. I am so glad you got a chance to run those trains. Can’t wait to see the pictures.

Wife and I planted the trees we got from Menards yesterday on the layout and I wired the switch yard flood lights and the K-Line sawmill.

All set for the grandkids tomorrow! Stick out tongue

Sounds like most had a good day and I am glad for that. RT, hang in there man. Sounds like it is back to the grindstone for you. Tongue Tied

Have been watching The Outer Limits most of the day, great stuff! Surprise

Would one of you guys from the Tardis Train Crew send me the keys for that thing or come pick it up? Every time I go down to the layout it is parked someplace else, most time on the tracks.  Surprise  Confused

Later,

Kev.

You all ahve a good night

Good afternoon everyone and a very Merry Christmas to each of you and your families.  RT, I am so sorry for your loss.  The loss of such a pet is tremendous.  I pray for comfort to you and your wife.

Chuck, great news!  Look forward to hearing more stories of your trips to the train room.

Well, kids woke us at 04:30!  We made them wait till 05:30 before opening presents.  I am still sick, spending most of the day back in the bed.  We did watch Polar Express last night and now watching A Christmas Story, both have become Christmas traditions.

Time to rejoin the family.  God Bless and Merry Christmas!

Thanks guys he will be missed. I still have Frank he's about 16 and the way he looks I think he could make 20 himself. But like some of you have said it is like losing a part off your family when they have been with you this long.

Well it has been a fairly good day I did get to serve my other family dinner today which was there choice of condon blue or prime rib served with shrimp cocktail and other goodies so that was nice it kept me busy and mind occupied so it really helped I always enjoy Being there especially on holidays I feel blessed being in this job as it gives me so much satisfaction. I felt real lost when I lost my job on the farm as I enjoyed that but because of health reasons it didn't work out ( lost cdl because of defibrillator) So getting this job was a real blessing as I feel I'm really doing something and I enjoy talking to all the fellow veterans.

Well hope you all had a very merry CHRISTmas and that blessings follow you all into the new year.

Merry Christmas everyone from the Heartlands where it's just a beautiful day, light winds and temps in the mid and upper 40's.

Had an amazing candlelight service last night and just a nice relaxing day here, we are alone this year as both sons and families are with the in-laws and that's OK, I think it's bothering them more than us as the phone keeps texting and ringing!

Nothing planned for the week as Sharyl is burning vacation days that she can't carry over (she is allowed 5 carry over days but that's all) so I know it's going to be a fun week.  I look forward to this spring when she WILL retire :)

Chuck -- so very glad to hear that you made it to the train room, simply outstanding news!

Best to everyone!

Jon

MERRY CHISTMAS ALL!

Had a great time last night with Church, dinner out (Italian) with family, watched A Christmas Story, and then some rest. Everyone up at 9:30 am for presents, breakfast, and good cheer!

RT - sorry about your pet. It is tough when they go.

Chuck - Great news!

Starting on tonights dinner prep: pies, turkey, and all the trimmings!

Regards, Roy
