Well it is 4 pm and the furnace guys are still here. Do you think it had anything to do with disappearing an hour+ for lunch and then the lead guy disappears for another hour???? Grumpy

Keep notes of when they are there and when they're not. I've come across some sneaky guys who try to bill for time they weren't actually on site.

well we got the back yard raked up into piles today and I have about 3/4 of a load in the back of the truck will finish loading it tomorrow. Realized it would be a lot easier if I had a pitch fork so guess will be looking for one of those this next year so next year I will have one. Would make it so much easier loading it into and out of the truck. Still have the drive way and front yard to do the drive way is the worst of the 2 but its not that bad really so all will be done by Tuesday doing a little each day. Yeah chief I know if I had a Deere with a auto bagger I would be done well I don't have a yard to warrant it as my yard is less than a 1/4 acre.

Need to add coil couplers to my other NYC PA-1 have everything just need to do it so either tonight or tomorrow morning that will be my project.

think I will after Christmas start working on my dual shelf layout and look into finally replacing carpet in den with hardwood flooring this way I can use the den as my practice area want to get the carpet out thats in here as it was here when we bought the house and it actually reminds me something torn out of another room in the house and put in down here and the only thing big enough would of been the living room. I honestly believe its cement under the carpet so I will have to make sure floor is flat and then put down some type of mat for the flooring to float/lay on. will be fun as will end up moving items around as I put floor down.

Kev I believe they came with regular couplers it having KayDee tells me someone else put them on and the smoke unit not working tells me the set is used. But it still looks like a great set. Believe it or not back around 5 years ago when they came out and K-line was going under places like boscov's had those sets listed for about $39 I seem to remember sending laz a copy of the avertisement. Wish I would of pick a few up as there now selling for about $75 to $100 each some times even more. They were trying to dump them.

I didn't know they had smoke thou. probally have to replace the smoke unit. might check to see if a wire is off on the inside.

Oh my NS set is supose to be here the 6th ( should of already had it.) Bang Head

Dennis, will make a nice size layout.  Ray, not taking out but one wall.  Wall between bath and master bedroom.  That will make that room larger.

Heard three spaced shots at lease this AM.  Buddy rushed down to check it out.  Found nothing.  I went this PM and saw hole in galvanized trash can we use to store fish food and deer corn.  Some folks.

Ray - so glad to hear your sister is more comfortable Angel    Me too Ray .

Kev and I have formulated a plan Cool   Roy I have sent you some questions. Yes

Got the new toy today Wisconsin Central Plymouth Switches set and the wife and I love it but.........Hmm

I asked these questions also. on the forum

As luck would have it seems the smoke unit is not working. Have tried switch in both direction ran 15+min with 3 drops of fluid but nothing.  Confused

Other question is I have seen these switchers with standard 0 gauge couplers, mine only has the Kaydee scale couplers. Anyone know if mine will accept the 0 gauge couplers and where I can get some? I have sent this question to Dean at the train Dr.

I have been playing with it since it got here and wifey wants me to help put of Christmas stuff. Ha Ha that is no fun.  Laugh

Check it out.

Chief, don't knock out too many walls in that mobile home unless there is something else that gives it strength.  I'm sure you have it all figured out.

The"What me worry" Chief worry about structural integrity in a trailer? NAAAAAAHHHHHHH...Whistling

No real rain here as the weather doodoo yaked about all last night - some minor drizzle. There might be a tiny bit of freezing precip Monday but to hear the news here it will be a one hundred year blizzard event.

Ray - so glad to hear your sister is more comfortable Angel

Kev and I have formulated a plan Cool

Babysitting the furnace guys right now. Unlike the concrete crew they showed up on time this morning! Will have heat in the north side of the house by 4 pm! SWMBO will be pleased - very pleased. However the cost is biting into the train budget.

Have a great day all!

Chief your train trailer is half the size of my house. Jrffery I like your old 0-6-0. I have long longed for toy train type HO that would go around small radius like our O toy trains. With big wheel flanges, truck munted couplers, Die cast  engines so their heavy enough to pick up electricty good and details don't break off when you pick it up. These are some of the reasons why many people like O 3 rail. I guess Marklin has this but mostly foreign protypes.

I like the big O Scale trains also but I just don't have the room for a reasonable looking layout without it looking crowded together and it costs quite a bit more. I was modeling in N Scale back in the 80's and would be now except for that I don't have the full use of my hands. Handling those small things is difficult, So between the space issue on the one side and the handling issue on the other I made a compromise and went with HO.

Good morning all,

Got some good news about my sister in North Carolina this morning.  They have done some kind of surgery to repair the break in her back area.  Not exactly sure what was broke but they "cemented" it back together to put it simply.  Anyway she feels a lot better and said this is the best she has felt since being diagnosed with *** cancer.  She will start a once a month bone medication soon and light chemotherapy after that.  Still no change on her diagnosis but her quality of life has been greatly improved for now.

Winds have calmed down for now and sun is out today.

Chirstmas train meet tomorrow at TTOS Southwestern Division.

Dinner out last night was very good at one of our restaurants in the village here.  We even got a complemintary piece of pie for desert.  We have known these folks since they opened several years ago.  Nice people.

Been trying to get a new controller for my heat pump in our family room.  Got out the instruction manual and found out the darn thing was made in Malaysia and can't find a local distributor.  Called the people who installed it and they claim they were unable to find a new one.  Mean time I have to turn it on and off manually and the temperature is stuck on 75 and you can't change it.  Replaced batteries but that did no good.

Stourbridge Lion, belated welcome to the party.

Chief, don't knock out too many walls in that mobile home unless there is something else that gives it strength.  I'm sure you have it all figured out.

later,

Ray

Hi everyone,

Looks like rain is on the menu today. 43 degrees now and won’t go a lot higher. I checked the FedEx tracker and my K-Line Plymouth switcher set is due for delivery today.   Big Smile  Maybe I will get some time to read more of the new CTT magazine today.

The pot is really filling up already 6 pages.

DougM, Have fun at Lewis U . The man of few words must be the strong silent type??

Hey Roy, I replied to your e-mail. Yes lets do that thermostat thingy. I have a few brain cells I can burn on that project. I can go towards my collage degree and I can save some LP gas along the way. Yes

RockIslandJack, How do you want that firewood from the "seasoned" side of the pile sent USPS UPS, or FedEx??? Laugh

RT, Glad you are doing better. I thought we told you to go easy on the leaves>>>so you go out and hammer the rake. Glad I am finally done with leaves.

Well I better start breakfast. Maybe the wife will smell it cooking and get up.   Smile, Wink & Grin

Later,

Kev.

Joe I didn't even make it last night for the tardis crew as I was just wore out not exactly sure why but do know haven't slept good for a while I did pretty good last night thou so will see how today goes.

morning all not a lot going on here. Breakfast today is scrambled eggs with onions and peppers in it and biscuits and sausage to go with it.

well finally getting some things seen as to whats what lol Got a 1033 transformer it has loss of power but enough to run a train at a fair speed unless you hook to tmcc then it doesn't oh well I think it's not putting out what is needed as it won't blow a horn either the engine light will get brighter but won't sound the horn so I'm thinking it may not be giving the power it needs. my engine won't jump the track at full throttle either so that tells me I'm probably just getting about 10 volts out of it but it would be a good transformer if I had kids as it would restrict the speed of the train there running lol. Have it on ebay at the moment with the problems listed so if someone buys it they know what there getting but doubt it will get any bids. guess it could be parted out as the handles and the thumb screws are good and the cord is in good condition and it has the big L on one side and Lionel on the other side of the plug. sure someone could recondition it.

Need to rake some more leaves today as just did it for a little while as was real tired yesterday and the good rake ( the wide one) broke so I had to go to the smaller one which means it takes more work to use it and do the same work. might go get a new one as there only about $10 at Wal-Mart.

Well time to get going and get some things done here in the house talk to you all later.

Morning all [including Japan].  Chilly here.

Goofing off and drinking coffee while reading shooting/rifle magazines.

Wifey buying the "box" [14X40 mobile home] from SIL today.  Hope to move it after first of the year.  Will make a great train house.  Will get it setup and inspected as a storage building.  Then do electrical and hook up heat pump.  Then start removing everything but a few walls.  Build a work bench for trains and reloading.

Got to put out Christmas blow ups and get down Christmas tubs from under layout.  Put fall, halloween and Thanksgiving tubs back under.

Buddy at the lake is doing very well after his bone marrow transplant.  May come home middle of next week.  We'll see.  Going back Monday night after Town Board to baby sit.

Have a good one.

Good Morning

36 and cloudy

I had a nice long chat with Charlie last night, we talked trains so no world problems solved. Saturday is laundry day, she sorts, I make the moves. My collage football teams are almost done for the season and I think that's what makes winter seem so looong. I follow the Red Wings but don't watch them. granny Pat does though.

Enjoy your weekend...S.J.

Good morning. It's 56° and cloudy. The high will be 70° and we will be having what the weather guesser calls 'partial sunshine'. Looks like mostly cloudy to me.

No plans today. I'll just do what I think should be done when I think of it providing I can remember it long enough to do anything about it. I can think of something to do and by the time I've gotten up to - what was I going to do? It can be aggravating at times. Yesterday I sent out a KCS Southern Belle grain car to a friend in north Louisiana. Monday he'll be sending me a well car with containers. I don't know what I'll do with it yet.

Konbanwa,

It rained most of the morning so rigging up the outdoor lights did not happen again.  I did not set up the train or Christmas Village yet either as we got busy running errands this afternoon.  The 16-month-old and I needed haircuts and the wife went grocery shopping.  We split up the two older kids and knocked those chores out fairly quickly.  We are definitely seeing the Cost of Living difference over here; our weekly grocery bills have nearly doubled, and we are buying our groceries on base nonetheless.  It's still worth it for the experience of living here.  We came home so the youngest could have a nap, and the two older ones and I could play a game of Star Wars monopoly.  The Princess won again.  We then went off base for dinner and it was delicious.  The older boy was happy because this place actually had pizza.  The rest of us had Japanese style curry and I also had a cuttlefish salad.

RT - I'm sorry I had to cut out so quickly this morning.  I was hoping to stick around to chat with the Tardis crew, but the three kids demanded my immediate attention - chaos was ensuing.

I hope everyone enjoys their Saturday, mine is about to end.

Sayonara,

Joe

Aloha from a rainy Crystal Lake where I am off to visit another college with the teen. Should be a couple of interesting hours in the car together with the man of few words. Big Smile.  The youngest had a good 'debut' in his Christmas show last night. I've seen kissing balls - it's a bunch 'a mistletoe, don't ya know.  Tis the season. 8n, when we were last at Epcot, they had a special Wines around the World thingie going on - that was fun!  Welcome Darren!

Wife and I are off to join the daughter, SIL, and the grandkiddies and go shopping.....the "good" kind of shopping.

First Christmas party to attend this season later this afternoon.  These are "dog training" folks who have been so helpful and supportive as my wife and I have tried to dial in Maximus.  When we were disappointed and frustrated with his progress, they were always there with a fresh set of eyes and an encouraging word.  We never would have been able to stay the course and get an obedience title on Maximus without these folks......fine people, and not judgemental.  They see potential where we see all of our inexperience and shortcomings.  Good people to surround onesself with.

Back to shopping.......Christmas tree, Christmas wreath, kissing ball, and fresh garland (for the mantle and staircasel railing).  The wife has kept this "buy real stuff" alive over the decades with all of these fresh cut decorations, all of which she then painstakingly decorates.  This annual Christmastime foray out to buy this stuff each year is expensive. You have to buy and then throw out after the holidays.  The vacuum cleaner gets quite the workout every holiday season as well.  Yes, there are the downsides.

But the combination of that real pine smell coupled with the train (aroud the tree) ozone essence in the house this time of year pulls 60 years together for me, pleasant memories of times and people gone by.  I'll take it!!!!

Chuck......any train running on the schedule yet?  RT.........hope things have settled down, listen to Dennis.  And thanks for the info, Brutus needs to hear from me.  We don't need you to go on the IR and have to ride the bench, especially when you are needed at home and here.  Roy.......that was one clear and concise education in this cell phone booster discussion.  All in a few sentences, wish I could express myself so well and in so few words.  Bob.........stunning pictures.  Jeffrey da VinciKev, send me some of that firewood from the "seasoned" side of the pile.  JimmySP.......your alive!!!!!

Have a good one all.  Prayers for those who need them.  And for those struggling with physical ailments, look at the bright side of things.  You could be like me, crazy upstairs!  LaughLater

Back from a business trip to Detroit this week.  I did manage to have dinner with mom last night - enjoyable for both of us, as we have not seen each other in several months.

Lionel did give the hobby shop owner a return authorization number for that SD90 with sound system problems.  I'm also curions to see how that turns out.

I offered up a GP38 in CP markings and some cash for the SD90, but the guy who bought the SD90 didn't bite.  I don't really blame him.  I think I'm going to start shopping for one of the LionMaster SD90's.  I've seen them in NYC lightening stripe colors, which will fit in will with the rest of my stuff.

Brutus - my wife and I tried to eat our way around the world at Epcot Center when we visited there years ago.  We started in 'Japan' and finally gave up at 'France'.  We bought one dish at each pavilion, then moved on to the next.  Was fun.  We'd like to try it again sometime.

Christmas parade is tomorrow.  I've got to go into work tomorrow as well.  Going to schedule work around the parade.

All for now.

Jeffrey - I like the steam on the Louisiana and Arkansas!

This is the first locomotive I had for the L&A. It was left to me as you see it by a relative who left me quite a bit of his model railroad empire. It's a 70's era Bachmann 0-6-0 that's been rebuilt with a can motor, all new brass gearing and solid axles. The boiler is metal and it's pretty hefty. It picks up power through the drivers only. The tender has no pickup capability.

Hello all

Cold and bit snowy on the mountain tonight. Winds have calmed down for the time being.

Welcome Stourbridge Lion!

Kev - I like the progress on the layout especially the big yard! You must like switching! I think I see where Roy is going w/ the 2nd thermostat idea and it doesn't sound too hard.

Jeffrey - I like the steam on the Louisiana and Arkansas!

Kev,

You could wire a bimetallic protection thermostat in series with the heat demand wire from your standard thermostat to the furnace control relay.

The extra thermostat closes on a temperature drop (chose about 45 F as these units are very sloppy on temperature tolerance +/- 5 degrees). So when your regular thermostat trips at 55 degrees the extra thermostat is still open and does not close until approx 35 degrees. When it warms above 45 degrees it will open again. There are several versions available.

http://www.senasys.com/shop/products-page/2570-1-sealed/2570l068/

About $10 not counting shipping.

You could also adapt a swimming pool freeze guard unit but these are pretty expensive, but are more tight in terms of the on and off temps near freezing and contain a 120/220 volt contactor to handle a 220 volt pool pump.

Sounds cool but I will need to get that collage degree first.   Huh?   I think I am clueless on that stuff.. I was hoping to find some off the shelf thingy at like a heating and cooling place.  Hmm

Or you can come over and help.  Yes   Or got a wiring diagram?

Yeah $137.00 is kind of pricey. If I could find an old school thermostat with that nasty mercury in it's switch I could just mount it un-level till I got it down to 35 degrees.

Thanks
