Aloha from a pretty day - looks like Irene wasn't as bad as feared. I saw convoy after convoy of utility trucks heading east on my jaunt to drop off my daughter and visit another college with my middle boy. Made it home in record time - no traffic anywhere - still it was a long day. Off to a play with my wife tonigh.

John Baker, those Beeps are nice. They were even nicer when they were cheaper too Big Smile. Hope you had a good anniversary, Brutus. I remember pulling in behind my wife's car when we were dating, and noticing her tags were 2 years out of date! Guess they kept sending the notices to her father. Back then, the state let me update them for her - can you believe that - I had the registration, wasn't the owner, no ID, not even related to her. LOL.

Early afternoon here.

73/77 today with sun.

It was a nice morning but I missed the pot. I just finished adding some fuses to the layout. Charlie suggested I should because of the newer engine electronics. Granny's driving me nut's trying to get thing's done before the 12th. And on we go...lol

Hi GUYZ,

Good Nite IRENE, Good nite IRENE, I'll see you in my dreams!

WOW guess something was wrong with the forum?  Just got on.  We lost power here in Millersburg from 5-9AM.  All ok here save for a few trees falling down.  Maybe our school will call a 2 hr delay?  Boy I'm I hoping.

Gonna watch final of the LL World Series that is played up the road about 50 miles from here in WILLIAMSPORT, PA.  I wish the team from Clinton Co., Pa. got in?

PRAYERS for CHUCK and CHAR.  Get well soon,

Stay frosty,

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Still pretty breezy and gray here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Looks like the leaves I would've had to rake in November wound up all over my neighbor's house.  Still plenty of branches for the Fifepup 2000 to gobble up.  Otherwise, Fifedom dodged a bullet.  Only lost power from 0430-0700 hours.  Just a teeny bit of water in the train room (which also has the sump pump).  Fifepup, who works at our local grocery store, said it was a great week to own DEER PARK stock!

We have 4 local news networks here, and they all follow the same tired and predictable formats when it comes to storms.  Irene is simply a fat, slow-moving sow of a storm with a lot of rain to dump.  It was certainly no Isabel, although the media and government types certainly tried to hype it up as such.

I am sounding grumpy, aren't I...?

May drive down to dock and check on yatchet later this afternoon.

Morning.  Sunny and less humid.  Limbs and leaves everywhere.  Lord blessed us as no power outage and no real big damages.  Down east, another story but not as bad as some storms.  Yanks, hope it is not bad on yuz giz.

Watched Unstopable at the lake house earlier this week.

No word on Chuck.  Prayers.

Later.

BRUTUS,

The saw was a ridgit model TS2424 1.  Heavy die cast top,  made in USA, 10 inch table saw.  Not quite like I have at school a Delta Uni saw but it will do for me now.  For the low low price I can not complain.  I tested it out on a 3/4 inch piece of oak and cut real good.

Prayers for Chuck & Paula, Ray, and Doug.

Thanks for the congrats guys - as a special gift, I was able to bring Charlene back home tonight and she is doing really well!  The biopsies were all normal for the digestive system, but she had some GVHD with her skin reaction, which is getting better.  We waited all day for them to make a decision.  They were going to keep her another day, when I went to the hospital at 4.  We appealed to them and they finally called the doc, who ok'd her release today  About an hour and a half later, we were in the van and headed home Yes.  She has doctor appointments on Monday, but her lab numbers are fine.

Jack - Char had a similar theory.  To pick out my truck, the cop must have been checking me out already, right?  Maybe he liked my truck, or just was impressed with how I handle my rig?  Laugh

Man - what a roller coaster ride.  She would get out Saturday.  Then it was going to be Friday.  Finally on Friday after waiting all day, they said noooooo - tomorrow.  Then today, they were saying well, she is fine, but looks like tomorrow???  If she is fine, why tomorrow?  So stressful.  They kept setting new lines in the sand and dangling the hope closer and closer, then snatching it away, and for no good reason.  We are going to take some time before Monday to decide how to specifically and politely explain that some people have a lot of knowledge, but absolutely no sense of the human element or comprehension of the pain that their words can cause.  We are just so happy she is out now - wow!

TARDIS is ready and we have lots of goodies, so turn on your beacons!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Evening from Station 20,

My turn for communications duty.

Irene is approaching with heavy rain, the wind is picking up and tornados have been south and west of us. Trees are down and roads are flooding. In another 15 minutes I will be back to the road. Desk duty over.

Brutus and SJ, I guess that i am missing the Tardis.

Be Safe and Careful,

John

Afternoon All.

Continued prayers for Chuck & Paula, Char and the Easties in Irene's path.

Happy Anny to Brutus & Char, with many more to come.

Had a bit of fun at the museum yesterday til I ran out of gas about 2:30 and had to leave. Since I travel light of late the featured performers, from my roster, were Thomas, Percy and James with an assortment of their freight cars plus Annie and Claribelle. The Hogwarts Express saw a bit of runtime as well.

We dodged a bullet here this afternoon, 99* dry & windy and a brush fire breaksout  on the hill behind us. Fortunately the fire dept was on the scene really quick and got it knocked down before it was able to spread to much or do any significant damage.

The munchkin was here for the night last night so we drove thru "Cruising Grand" for a bit to check out the streetrods.

Later all.

Back at work for a few days.

Hope everyone back east is staying safe from the hurricane.

Continued prayers for Chuck and family.

Congrats Brutus and Char!

Hope the back is better SPRay.

Saw some more of those tan car carriers on the UP again. They look smaller than usual.

Buckeye Riveter

Happy Anniversary Brutus and Char!!!  Wishing you many more.

Neice in New Bern, NC where there appears to be some damage from the hurricane.

Downtown New Bern flooded.  Wind has pushed the water in the Pamlico and Albermarle inland.  Historic Bath flooded too.

We have lots of big and little limbs down all over the yard.  One big one hit the edge of the house and bend the gutter.  I can fix.  Will take a month of Sundays to clean up.  Still better than Fran and Floyd.  Miss Dorothy [widow black lady at the pond lease] is 87.  Having a party for her today.  No power.  Progress Energy trying to get someone to come.  Will only take a few minutes to get her back on.

Few trees down in the Town.  A few power outages.  I feel really lucky.  Pond is full and going over spillway.

Hunters Haven was really busy today even with the storm.  I mounted the Nikon Rimfire BDC scope on my new used H&R .22 Mag yesterday.  Really looks good.  Never been a Nikon fan but I'm now impressed.

Greetings from the Jersey Shore,

Mandatory evacuations 1/10 of a mile east of me. So far heavy rain and some wind. My son and I have duty at the Fire Dept. tonight. Then I am on call for work.

The Garden State Parkway is closed Southbound from Exit 98 to let emergency vehicles pass and to make all lanes Northbound for evacuations. I do not ever remember them doing this.

Spanky, They already opened the Pompton Plains Resovoir. You know where that leaves Wayne. Lucky you are on the high ground. If you want shoot me your address up there and if I am working up there (Lately they have been sending me South - Lawrenceville ) I can check it out.

AF53, Ray, Safe trip. You know where the 2000 GPM pumper will be parked tonight with the chain saws ready to go. The "New Birch Street Substation". All of the comforts of "home".

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BRUTUS AND CHAR!!! Gift

Prayers for Chuck, Char, Ray and Everyone in need.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BRUTUS AND CHAR !!!!!

By the way, I'm sure most of us have had lapses in our registrations or inspection stickers.  But we didn't get caught.  Surprise  You got caught because you look like a known criminal type.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Well, the rain has already started here, will continue on and off the rest of the day and the evening, continue throughout the night, and will pick up the pace in the morning.  I think this rain is unrelated to Irene because it is coming in from the Southwest.......but not from Texas!!!!!  Sorry Roy !!!

Good afternoon everyone.  I am wiped out!  Had a early heart to do, then picked up kids from school and dropped them off at sitter's house as bride and I had to go to the Fox Theater in Atlanta for the premier of Courageous.  It was a nice affair put on by the Cathy family of Chik-fil-A fame.  finally got to bed late last night and then woke up to head south this morning.

Brutus and Char, happy Anniversary!

Hudson, stay safe.  We had a Georgia Power lineman get killed working on some high lines when he got zapped.  I know you guys take precautions, but things can happen.

Hope you folks up north are safe through the current storm.

Good Afternoon Ya'll From Overcast Taxachusetts,

The Red Sox are squeezing in a day/night double header at home today against Oakland to beat the hurricane.  This morning I mowed the lawn (front only), cleaned out a gutter, checked the street drain, and put away anything that can get blown away........last items to secure are the deck tables which we leave out year round.  I flip them over, put them table top to the deck flooring. and then secure to the deck supports with rope.

We are expected to get sustained 74 MPH winds and are currently right on the edge of the 5"-10" expected rain accumulation.  For us, we will get hit with the worst of it starting around noon tomorrow morning when the storm surge and the high tide will occur simultaneously.  Expect coastal flooding about a mile east of me.  The beaches will once again get swept out to sea.

Drove past some of the marinas yesterday, and it appears most folks seem to be leaving their boats and yatchets in the water.

Entire state East to West is going to be impacted.  I am just hoping I don't take on any water......I have a peak vent the entire length of the roof peak, and the rains and high winds sometimes blow up, under, and into the attic, eventually staining the ceilings on the second floor.  Doesn't happen too often, but this will be one of htose times I suspect.  Bang Head

We'll be going out to dinner to celebrate the son's 32nd birthday tonight.  In case we loose power, I'll be pulling out the flashlights, extra batteries, and candles when we get home.  I am still using a Motorola transistor radio circa 1962!!!  Hope I don't need it.  I anticipate we will lose power.

Later gang!!!   Stay safe and stay dry.  I have to go now and make sure my wife has an extra leash and her rain slicker at the ready so she can take the dog out for his pit stops in the middle of the hurricane tomorrow.

Laugh

Jack

Good morning all,

Prayers for Chuck and good luck to all on hurricane Irene damage.

Off to TCA train meet this morning.  Still taking muscle relaxers per doctor and not having much pain.  Temperature near 100 or better today.  We could use some of that water being sprayed all over the East Coast.  Not much to report today.  Have a good one,

Ray

Morning guys,

Nice to see John Baker back on the forum.

I totally agree on the overkill on the storm coverage. Even our local stations are going nuts and we are on the edge of the storm zone. Once an hour for 5 or 10 minutes would be plenty.  As for the idiots standing out on the beach with their microphones No No No.

Fife, I hope your boat rides the storm well, it is always a tossup how to handle these storms.

The rain did start here at 9:00 AM and it has rained off and on since then. As far as wind there is none, the lull before the storm I guess.  We did put anything movable indoors for the duration.

I never missed renewing my registration. But did miss the state inspection one time. I caught it before they caught me. :D

Well back to work on my doll house project, no trains till it is done.

sir james I

Good morning

66/80 today

Brutus if your late renewing tags or license in Mich. the state adds a fat late fee. A good way to remember on time. Weather channel still broadcasting the same thing over and over without local weather at all. And I'll bet the people running that place had to go to college to be that stupid. Probably the same people that time traffic lights. No new train news, nice chat with Brutus and Charlie last night. BLTs this morning, won't be many more days left for them...S.J.

SJ-Boy you are so right about the weather forecasters. I am in central Virginia and I am bored hearing it. I think the various channels are competing for viewers. Glad we have DVD's to watch!

Morning all.  Thar she blows.  Some big limbs down and lots of rain [bet the pond is full now].  Going to Hunters Haven in a few.  Wifey watching movies on TV.  Thanks to the Lord that Irene has lost some of its "punch" when it got to NC.

SJ, agree with you on all those counts.

Have a good one.
