Good morning all,  finally got a good nights sleep.  Doctor gave me a muscle relaxer yesterday and I slept through the night.  Only problem it makes you sleepy all day when you want to be up. Will see the doctor next week.

Saw a good show featuring Arnold Palmer on Charlie Rose.  He is one of my all time heros.  I was part of Arnie's Army from about 1957 onward.  He may not have the most majors but he did more for golf on TV than anyone else I know.  Great guy!

later,

Good Mornin' ya'll From hazy and near 80s Taxachusetts,

Continued prayers for Chuck and for Paula, for Char's tests and Brutus' Mr. Mom responsibilities, for RaySP's back issues, and for all who need them.  As one person said, Chuck has climbed this mountain before, and with His help will do it again. Angel

Wish some of that REB "hot air" in NC would push hurricane Irene out to sea.  Sorry Chief, couldn't resist. Also, I hope none of us on the Right Coast encounter any serious issues with approaching hurricane Irene......looks like several of us will take it straight on, including me here on the entrance to Cape Ann Taxachusett, just a mile off the ocean. .  It has been 20 years (1991) since Hurricane Bob made landfall and struck here, doing significant damage......usually the hurricanes track Northeasterly off the coast here, and we just get lipped with heavy rains and high winds.  Doesn't look like we will be that lucky this time.  Fife......are you pulling your yatchet out of the water? Pirate

Brent...........continued joy and happiness for you and the Q on the new addition to your household, Christina.

LAZ.........did they frisk you and Minnie?  Should have.  You look like the known criminal type.  Laugh

PAPA.........where have you been hiding?

V8........enjoy the train ride!!!!!!!!!  Yes  Tip one or two for us in the bar car.  Drinks

DougM.........buy a "real' lawn mower, a man's lawn mower, one that you don't plug in.  Smile, Wink & Grin

AF Ray, JoeyD............sorry, the Red Sox took back first place from the Evil Empire last night.  The Sox are one beat up team right now, and a local fan can't tell the players and the lineup without a scorecard.  Starting pitcher Bard has been a good pickup so far, hope he holds up physically.  Two starting pitchers still out, one for the season (Matsusaka) and one who is doubtful (Buchhholz) with back vertebrae fracture, even for the playoffs.  DH Ortiz has just finished 9 games on the bench, heel bursitis.  Third base Lowry still trying to work himself back into shape.  Youkilis has been out with a bad back.  But the bats keep carrying us.

JoeyD.........this must be a stressful time for you and the family.  This move is a big one, and to a foreign country no less (Japan).  You have my prayers all goes smoothly and that the adjustment for the family goes well.  Language, culture, the recent nuclear meltdown and tsunami, distance from family and the states.  May God bless you and your family for your service to your country.

Severe thunderstorms are approaching from the Southwest for this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow AM, then Irene arrives.  It's always something!!!

Good morning,

Well after 3 days of sitting on bleachers watching grandkids show animals at the fair, I can sympathize with those having back pain.  Need to go take something when I log of here.

!6 year old grandson won Supreme Champion Market Beef and he is all smiles after it brought $3400 at last evenings auction.

Prayers for Chuck & Paula, Char and Ray.

We got some of Doug Murphy's rain already today and will probably get some from Irene over the weekend.  So far it looks OK for tomorrow, hope so, as the wife and I are heading to Gettysburg for a cookout.

Hi All,

First of all. PRAYERS for Chuck, Shar, those protecting our country and all others in need.

Drove up I75 to our favorite chicken dinner town (Frankenmuth, MI) with wife and family. Bought my self a birthday gift. NO, not train related but patriotic. It's a 3x5 9/11 commemorative flag. The stripes contain the name of those who perished on that day. Check out www.flagofhonor.org

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Most of the chores are caught up. Today it is clean the turtle tank and weed the front beds. they need it BAD. Then I will run a new wire to the bow light on the 18' Dixie Center Console. And then it is train time. Enjoying my vacation time. I don't need Irene to screw it up.

Laz, Your minnie sounds like our Mack. He is Mr. Friendly and makes friends with everybody. I don't know about calling you Batman. Maybe "Batty" like the rest of us. Whistling

HI GUYZ,

Prayers for CHUCK and PAULA and CHARAngel.

Last day o in service for teachers.

Yesterday went on run wwith MINNIE over at the NED SMITH lands and was running down from the RR bed to the Center when we encountered a bunch of people and low and behold our Govener of the state of Pa. was holding a news conference at the Ned Smith center.  MINNIE being the social dog that she is started to go to people and this caught the attention of the SS that protects the GOV.  I had to grab her before they intervened.  I did, the one State Trooper just smiled> I said sorry, but not many new the GOV was going to be there, just local media and a few people. Trooper patted me on the back and MINNIE and I turned and started to jog back up to the RR bed.  Excitement in my life no?

SPMAN. about 5 years I welded together an inversion table and I hang upside down every morning for about 2 minutes.  I had no problems with my back since I have been batlike for 5 yrs.  Just call mt BATMAN?

Stay frosty,

Good evening all,

I am now staying at the Holiday Inn Express which is a fantastic place.  The room is exceptional and the Wi-Fi works great.  I am looking forward to the free breakfast tomorrow morning.  I completed a fitness assessment today: pushups, sit-ups, waist measurement, and 1.5-mile run.  I scored an Excellent and I do not need to test again until next year.  The Yankees lost in extra innings tonight; I hope AF Ray still enjoyed the game.

Mike C. - I'm sure that was very touching for you.  I know I would be honored as well.  Thanks for investing in the kids; we need more people to do that.

SJ - Send some of your tomatoes down this way; the pickings are slim here.

Continued prayers for Chuck and Char.

Good night,

Joe

Prayers for Chuck and Paula.

Thanks for the prayers for Char.  She might have had a reaction to the medication change or she might be having some early problems with the graft v host again - the doctor said he wasn't taking chances and put her in the hospital straight from his office.  She is NPO (no food/water) until tomorrow morning when they do a flexible sigmoidoscopy and also some biopsies.  Those results should all be back Friday AM and we'll see if they need to change meds again or if she can just come home then.  I'm Mr. Mom for a few days again.

TARDIS is ready, so let's get going!  We have banilla or banilla -your choice!

Good evening all,

With all the bad that is going on in the world and even here on the pot, I have a link here: http://greensburgdailynews.com/sports/x2080082366/Pirate-Kickers-Blank-Wildcats-4-0-In-Home-Opener

that hopefully will show there is a cause for joy in the world.   There is no higher honor I could ever receive than what is written there, and it was a complete and total surprise.  Now I have "my" soccer boys as well "my" soccer girls.  The only soccer joy that will be higher is if the teams ever win a sectional title.  Then the Good Lord could call His servant home.

Keep on training,

Football practice is fun.  Love the kids.  Showed the kids how to do Green Bays (run in place dive to the ground and spring to your feet.).  I am having a blast.

Need to do some reading and work on this weekends homily

May God bless

Good evening guys.  Wanted to stop by and check in before bed time.  Joe, I will get hold of Dr. John and get that information to you.  He is a good guy.  RT, thanks buddy, I needed that.  That is the closest I have come to peeing my drawers in some time!  Knowing the volatility of Ether and also the effects of pyrodex, I knew where it was going, but with the "slight" embellishments, it was too funny!  After coming home from violin practice with the family, I was the last one to the front door.  All had entered and they left the white box with a FedEx label on it from Train City on the front landing.  So....I picked it up, brought it to the kitchen and opened my latest find....and nothing has been said.  If I don't check in tomorrow, my name may either be in the obituary section of the news paper, or on the bed assignments for ICU!

Have a great night and remember Chuck and Paula in your prayers.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good Evening,

It was great being on vacation today. 1. Went to Motor Vehicle to renew the Escort's registration. 2. Took the Explorer for State Inspection. 3. Went to the bank, 4. Went to the grocery store, 5. Washed the GMC Pickup, 6. Cut the front grass, 7. Received a call from work and was on a conference call about Hurricane Irene. I guess that I was on vacation.

Doug M, Yes a little excitement, the earthquake and Irene.

RI Jack, Yes, it looks like we are in the path also. Looks like I will be busy. At least it will help pay for my son's college.

V8, Dennis, Enjoy your trip

RT, I loved the story. My cousin Mark thought he was Superman because he had the suit. He was a few years younger than me and his older brother and we asked him if he could fly. He promptly climbed up on the porch roof, took off and broke his arm and a few other injuries. Kryptonite porch rail.

Brent, Enjoy the baby.

Brutus, Prayers for Char.

SP Man, Ray, Prayers and watch that back.

Chuck, Prayers for you and hang in there. You proved them wrong for over a week and we are all pulling for you.

Thoughts and Prayers forr all in need. Sorry if I missed someone.

okay here to add a little lighterside for a moment

To: all that likes sports

We all have a brother, cousin, uncle or ourselves who would do this!!

As as a child growing up in Texas...

Around age 10 my dad got me one of those little badass compound bow beginner kits.  Of course, the first month I went around our land sticking arrows in anything that could get stuck by an arrow.  Did you know that a 1955 40 horse Farm-all tractor tire will take 6 rounds before it goes down?
Tough sumbich..

That got boring, so being the 10 yr. old Dukes of Hazard fan that I was, I quickly advanced to taking strips of cut up T-shirt doused in chainsaw gas tied around the end and was sending flaming arrows all over the place.

One summer afternoon, I was shooting flaming arrows into a large rotten oak stump in our backyard.  I looked over under the carport and see a shiny brand new can of starting fluid (Ether). The light bulb went off in my head...

I grabbed the can and set it on the stump.  I thought that it would probably just spray out in a disappointing manner.  Lets face it, to a 10 yr old mouth-breather like myself, (Ether), really doesn't "sound" flammable.

So, I went back into the house and got a 1 pound can of pyrodex (black powder for muzzle loader rifles).

At this point, I set the can of ether on the stump and opened up the can of black powder.  My intentions were to sprinkle a little bit around the (Ether) can but it all sorta dumped out on me.  No biggie, a 1 lb. pyrodex and 16 oz (Ether) should make a loud pop, kinda like a firecracker you know?

You know what?  Screw that I'm going back in the house for the other can.

Yes, I got a second can of pyrodex and dumped it too.  Now we're cookin'.

I stepped back about 15 ft and lit the 2 stroke arrow.  I drew the nock to my cheek and took aim.  As I released I heard a clunk as the arrow launched from my bow.  In a slow motion time frame, I turned to see my dad getting out of the truck...  OH S--T!  He just got home from work. So help me God it took 10 minutes for that arrow to go from my bow to the can.  My dad was walking towards me in slow motion with a WTF look in his eyes.  I turned back towards my target just in time to see the arrow pierce the starting fluid can right at the bottom.  Right through the main pile of pyrodex and into the can.  Oh S--t.

When the shock wave hit it knocked me off my feet.  I don't know if it was the actual compression wave that threw me back or just reflex jerk back from 235 fricking decibels of sound.  I caught a half a millisecond glimpse of the violence during the initial explosion and I will tell you there was dust, grass, and bugs all hovering 1 ft above the ground as far as I could see.  It was like a little low to the ground layer of dust fog full of grasshoppers, spiders, and a worm or two.

The daylight turned purple.  Let me repeat this...  THE FRICKING DAYLIGHT TURNED PURPLE.

There was a big sweetgum tree out by the gate going into the pasture. Notice I said "was".
That son-of-a-b--ch got up and ran off..

So here I am, on the ground blown completely out of my shoes with my thundercats T-Shirt shredded, my dad is on the other side of the carport having what I can only assume is a Vietnam flashback: ECHO BRAVO CHARLIE YOU'RE BRInGIN' EM IN TOO CLOSE!! CEASE FIRE.  *** IT CEASE FIRE!!!!!

His hat has blown off and is 30 ft behind him in the driveway.  All windows on the north side of the house are blown out and there is a slow rolling mushroom cloud about 2000 ft. over our backyard.  There is a Honda 185 3 wheeler parked on the other side of the yard and the fenders are drooped down and are now touching the tires.

I wish I knew what I said to my dad at this moment.  I don't know - I know I said something.  I couldn't hear. I couldn't hear inside my own head. I don't think he heard me either... not that it would really matter.  I don't remember much from this point on.  I said something, felt a sharp pain, and then woke up later.  I felt a sharp pain, blacked out, woke later....repeat this process for an hour or so and you get the idea.  I remember at one point my mom had to give me CPR. and Dad screaming "Bring him back to life so I can kill him again". Thanks Mom.

One thing is for sure...  I never had to mow around that stump again, Mom had been bitching about that thing for years and dad never did anything about it.  I stepped up to the plate and handled business.

Dad sold his muzzle loader a week or so later.  I still have some sort of bone growth abnormality, either from the blast or the beating, or both.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, get your kids into archery.  It's good discipline and will teach them skills they can use later on in life.

Jack, thanks for the tips about back pain mangagement.  I'll try the pillows under the knees.  I put in a call this morning to give doctor a report on what's happening.  Probably get a call from them later today.  I have been able to stay comfortable most of the time today since I got out of bed.

V8,  have a nice trip and thanks for the prayers.  I'm sure I will survive.  Just have to get the right kind of treatment.

Talked to brother in Virginia about quake and pending hurricane.  He said he did not feel it.

Have a good day y'all,

Good afternoon all,

Well, after inspecting my hotel room a little further last night I ended up checking out and staying with a friend.  The room was very unclean and the desk clerk was in no hurry to remedy the situation.  Today I spoke with the manager and received a full refund.  I've been plugging along at work and I only have two more days here.

Dennis - I'll send it to you again.  Please send me more information about the Dr John and church as well.  I will have time on Sundays to attend church.  My wife and kids will remain with the in-laws while I'm in Montgomery but they may visit for my graduation.

I'm glad the hurricane is turning east.  I'll keep Chuck and his family in my prayers today.

Good day,

Joe

SPMan

............No news is good news for Chuck. Angel

Another bad night with the back pain.  Woke up about 6 times.  Took another dose of Alieve this morning and feel better since I got up.  Took Jack's advice and tried sleeping on back.  It helps a little but I'm not used to it yet.

later,

Ray

Ray.....also put a pillow under both your knees.  That is supposed to take pressure off of your back muscles (and hence your spine) while you sleep and keeps you straight/aligned.  Also, make sure the sheets and blankets at the foot end of the bed are very loose so your feet point more vertically, not horizontally.  It took me a while to get used to sleeping on my back after sleeping on my side for about a half century, but it was worth the improvement I experienced with my back.

Thankfully, when I had my first (and hopefully last) horrendous sciatica episode 11 years ago, we had a nice firm bed mattress (sp?).  I had fallen asleep on the couch the previous night and woke up the next morning virtually paralyzed.  The soft couch cushions must have done me in, along with the fact that my rear end had sunk down between the two cushions.  Somehow the muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatory medications eventually took hold........but it took weeks for my back to stop barking.  Left leg and left side posterior didn't feel too good either.

I also got into the habit of doing back stretching exercises first thing in the AM and right before bedtime.  If I had an off day, I would sit in a tub of hot water, as hot as I could stand, for about 15 minutes right B-4 bedtime.  Every little bit helped.  I wanted to avoid disc surgery.

The Orthopedic Doc gave me a regimen of stretching, back strengthening, and stomach strengthening exercises which I did faithfully......told me my stomach muscles were just as important as the back muscles in supporting my back.

He also observed I had to loose some weight, told me I looked pregnant.  Surprise  Had to cut down (not eliminate) on the good stuff:  Beer and Dinner.  It took me months because I don't believe in fad/crash diets Whistling and didn't want to put my body into shock.  Dropped 30 pounds in about 8 months as I recall, a lot of it with portion control.  I was also taking in a zillion empty calories a day (Cheetos, Kit Kats, Hostess cupcakes and Twinkies, ice cream, beer, high test soda, real butter and sour cream, etc.).  And I ramped up the exercise.

Started meals off (15 minutes before) with 16 ounces of water, then a large salad before every dinner.  Had to consciously eat much slower too as I used to shovel food into my mouth like someone was going to take it away from me.  Lots of little things, but it all added up.

I still don't have 6-pack abs of steel like the ChiefWhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

Jack

Banks, I think it was D.Baker who mentioned checking the water in the toilet.  He was refererring to the water in the toilet TANK which would be clean water and could be used in emergency for drinking if the water pipes to your house got broken.

No news is good news for Chuck. Angel

Another bad night with the back pain.  Woke up about 6 times.  Took another dose of Alieve this morning and feel better since I got up.  Took Jack's advice and tried sleeping on back.  It helps a little but I'm not used to it yet.

later,

Ray

Mornin' all!

Looks like Irene is trending more eastward, which could spare Floriduh and the Carolinas.

Good Morning

68/90 today, storms expected later.

Poached egg on toast this morning, haven't had one of those for awhile. Still taste good. I'm taking granny to Red Cross this morning, they will be taking blood for her knee operation, and once more next Wednesday. Happy Hump Day to those who must...S.J.

Aloha. Big storms came through yesterday - sent them on east. Got soaked on my walk to the train even with the brolly. Watched the new Top Gear last evening. Law and Order UK and Doctor Who start up again this week too. Yes  Continued prayers for Chuck and Paula. Observed lotsa earthquake panic out east yesterday. Next up, Irene.

Good morning all,

Prayers for Chuck and Paula.  Again, not that it matters much, but high school boys won 7-0 and 4-0 in JV and varsity games.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
