Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Just got back from Michael's.  Needed a new hot glue gun and mini-sticks.  Checked out the LEMAX/Spookytown stuff on display.  The eye popper (get it?) was the OCTO SWING carnival ride.  Has a lot of appeal for amusement park set-ups, lots of details.  Lists at $99, so grab your coupons.

Brent......it occured to me that the best way we here can help you, the Q, and Christina to pass the time waiting for the FLA and then MD ICPC departments' to push a couple of pieces of paper, and finally release you from your current incarceration, is to give you advice on parenting.  As you know, most of us have been particularly adept at all manner of blunders.  So we know what we are talking about.

Some years ago I got to work, rushed to my office to pick up some stuff, and then hurried off to a meeting, getting there just a few minutes before the meeting started.  That is when one of the women in attendance who knew a thing or two about children came up from behind and tapped me on the shoulder while I was pouring myself a cup of coffee.

She said, "Jack, you may want to make a quick trip to the mens' room and clean up a bit."  That one caught me by surprise.  Apparently I was sporting about 18 inches of spit-up down the back of my black suit coat.  Never even noticed the smell driving to work.

Always check your clothing before you walk into work, both sides.  Laugh

Jack.

Good Mornin' Ya'll from Clear Taxachusetts With high 70s On Tap,

Just a quick, amusing, weather-related story my FIL shared with me by phone yesterday, one that DougM can appreciate because Doug lives about 16 miles due North of him and he himself had recent weather-related problems at his homestead..

My FIL is 90 and understandably can't do many things he used to do.  Much to his disappointment, he has to hire folks to mow, trim, and fertilize.

Over the course of the past few weeks his grass started yellowing/browning out.  So he thought he should be proactive and give the fertilizer/lawn expert guys he uses a call to come out and assess the situation.

The guy shows up, and walks the property.  Then he declares with a straight face that the source of the problem with the lawn is drought.

My FIL's city's average July rainfall is just short of about 4 inches.   The previous record high amount recorded was over 9 inches, set in 1889.  But in July 2011 he received a new record total of over 11 inches!!!!

FIL sent the lawn expert guy on his way.  Laugh

Jack.

Morning everyone,

Prayers to everyone who needs them and a big congrats to Brent and Q!

Went skeet shooting with a few friends yesterday. I think it was about the fifth of sixth time I've gone, and every time I go it seems to get more fun! It was only three of us yesterday, but we usually have a much larger group. I shot my friends Remington 870 Express as well as his new Benelli Super Sport. I'm still absolutely in love with the 870, and his father happens to be selling one for $150 which I will most likely end up buying.

Well, I'm off to start packing for the shore! It's the final weekend that I'll be down for the summer, so I gotta make the best of it, especially before school starts!

Laz -- I was told a few years ago that over half of the Durango-Silverton narrow gauge train ticket went for insurance costs?  I guess that makes sense when you consider that train runs along the side of a mountain with very little room on the outside rail plus the boiler liability.

DOUG and SPMAN,

Our Lokie is inspected every year before we get started.  Has a tag on the boiler.  I guess the tubes were ok but 11 years?  We have the brother to this Lokie in the barn with new tubes in it and all it needs is mud plugs and a little plumbing to get it to go.  I wish we could run this one, but don't know why we don't?  The powers that be?

Hi GUYZ,

Put in 7 hrs of pointing the stones yesterday.  Hands at a little sore today from all the squeezing of the grout bag. I have about 2-3 hrs today to finish the LAST wall, then put a big done sign on it.  Beers tasted good last nite.  Got up this morning and just did a nice 2 miler.  Temps here are the same as CHUCKs with low humidity.

CHIEF fishing for STRIPPERS?  Gee I keep on looking for the roaming band of STRIPPER when I'm out deer hunting?  They're on the water too?

8NTRUCK and SPMAN, the Lokie has two mud plugs that melt at 400 degrees.  That is our safety feature.  If the tubes would have blown out on a tour what we do is open up both injectors and flood the firebox.  That will stop everything.  The boiler man is to be there this morning taking the old ones out.  I wish I could check it out but I'm an hour away and I gotta get this work around the house done.

Stay frosty, I gotta GOLF later today FORE!

LEE - prayers for you and your family, man!

Toro UPS'd the new handle piece for my mower to replace the one I bent Bang Head

I got a VAC dial from an online store on ebay.  It looks great - need to check it with a transformer an against my volt meter.  If it works well, I will order a couple more for my new layout.  It will be neat to see how much power each block is drawing etc.  (Yes - I'm copying Charlie, but he has GOOD idears as we say in MO).

Watching a percy on ebay, Doug - I've been thinking that most of the "cheap" ones go for about 50 to 60 plus s/h of about 8 or 10?  So about 60-70 bucks or so?  I see someone selling the faces separately for like 20 bucks?  I might get one of those and try to sell off the faces and also the eye mechanism in case someone would want that.  That might bring the price down to what those cheap ones end up selling for?

TARDIS is ready guys - let's get going!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hi guys! Off tomorrow for a day trip to da Bronx. Been tooo long. Should be nice and 82 degrees with low humidity.

SJ - I don't profess to be a good cook but even I don't ruin a frying pan and flipper! How'd you do that one??

Jack - I have no excuse for the way we play against your team this year. I heard an interesting thing on tv while watching tonights game. They said "I heard that the Red Sox fans are calling the radio station up there and saying that if we can beat the Yanks 10 games out of 12 (or something like that) why are we only a couple of games ahead of them?" Interseting.

Partly cloudy and about 80 today.

S.J. - That sounds like a tin roof sunday to me.  Not many people south of the Michigan border call them that, though.

Demay - ever try the tuna appetizer at PF Changs?  It is one of my favorites.

Laz - The Lokie probably has a fuze plug somewhere in the boiler.  That is a plug with a metal filling that will melt out at pressures and temperatures that will occur if the water level in the boiler gets too low, venting the steam and releasing excess pressure.  One of those peace of mind things.

All for now.

Dennis and DougM and Brent........I find it sad that adoption has to be this difficult.  I understand caution is the order of the day, but it sounds like the bureaucracy throws so many obstacles and delays into the process, ones that would discourage even the most determined folks.  Who has the time and resources to outlast the delays, let alone an employer who has your back?

Jack - TheQ and I are very fortunate that our employers are permitting us to work remotely. Otherwise I would certainly be going bonkers! The uncertainty of how long the wait will be for the State ICPC offices to clear us is ridiculous. There really is no reason for it, we have had to get fingerprinted by MD, have multiple background checks run, had multiple home studies, multiple home inspections, etc, etc, etc. If we hadn't had ALL of that done PRIOR to submitting to FL and MD for adoption clearance I could understand, but we have been approved by BOTH states. All they should have to do is make sure each piece of paperwork is in the packet, put a stamp on it, and send us on our way. It doesn't make anything easier since MD doesn't accept the paperwork electronicly. They require FedEX, they don't even accept a FAX!!!! What decade are we living in again?

SoapBox

BUT - if they made this easier there would be even more shadiness when it comes to adoption.

Good Afternoon Ya'll from Ever Changing Weather Taxachusetts,

Serious rainstorms overnight, and today has been unsettled off and on.  At least we got a good soaking before dawn.  And my better half, who sleeps like the dead, even was awakened by the racket.  Took on no water, so all is good.

Fife............get well.  Man this is hanging on!

RaySP........you were there in spirit.  Sorry for your loss.

Rich........doesn't it drive you nuts when you learn stuff by reading FB>  What ever happened to the telephone?  Good news no matter what.

JoeyD and AF Ray............what on earth is going on with the Yankees?  At least the Red Sox have an excuse with their losing streaks.  They are still down their #3 and #4 starting pitchers, and it looks like neither will make it back this season.  They got their infielder Lowrie back, but it looks like he is going to have to win his job back.  His replacements, no names to most of us, have been filling the holes with little change in how the Red Sox are playing.  Newly acquired Bard has pitched well as a replacement starter, but he has a track record of breaking down.

JohnnyB.......hope things cool off on your side of the pond.  On this side, I couldn't see civil disobedience and violence going that far without some heavy law enforcement intervention to protect life and limb and property.  Prayers sanity returns, and in short order.  It looks like a lot of businesses got wiped out, sad.

JohnF JefE.........not to worry about getting behind on the Pot again.  We are just glad to have you back.  Thumbs Up

MikeC.........I love those road courses like MidOhio, Watkins Glen, and Road America.  The venues are so family friendly and fan friendly.  Thumbs Up

Northwoods..........your influence knows no bounds, not even amongst the die hard (name your brand, style, era).  Bow

Lee........prayers continue for you and your wife.  I just read your post and am sad something hasn't popped in a positive way for you.  FLA..... sounds like things are really tough down there.

Gotta run, gang!  Later.

Hello all!

I was without I-Net for over two months. Nothing happened other than I moved and lost I-Net with AT&T, now with Net Zero. The moving mess is over! Letting the house go back to the finance company, too expensive. Next year or the year after may move into something better if we can afford it. Had a moving sale last weekend and did really well, even sold the fridge!Oops Now somebody has to buy a new one.

But no layout for the trains.Sad Finally got on with Net Zero today, must have an account set-up before attempting to use their disk in your comp.

Have a lot of stuff in storage, maybe a small temp layout.

Job situation is dismal; I may lose some time at work, as we were told to clock out after coming in from the lane and going to the counting room. Wife is losing an hour a day, or going to 30 hours a week. Hope things go better for me soon.

Good morning all,

Dennis, I hope those folks in your story are able to adopt the other chinese girl.  That story really tugs at your heart strings.Angel

Laz, sounds pretty spooky to me but hope replaceing bad tubes only works out OK.  I know that the big steam engines are shut down when their flu time runs out by the FRA.

My friend Bill Sellers was laid to rest yesterday in Georgia.  Wish I could have been there.

Our little social group from church was suppose to have a get together in the local park last evening.  Only 5 of us showed up.  If the group keeps shrinking like this we will be able to hold the next meeting in somebody's car probably.  A lot of people are on vacation and stuff I suppose.

later,

Good morning all,

I worked for a few hours yesterday and then the family and I went to OKC to visit the OKC Memorial.  It is very well done and extremely moving.  After the memorial visit we all went to P.F. Chang's for dinner.  We don't eat there too often but it is always very good.  We had some rain and storms last night which made this morning's three-mile run very nice.  However, the wind was still gusting up to 30mph which did cause some drag since I was pushing the 1y/o on the stroller.  I will only work a few hours today and then we will all go bowling.

The Yankees lost last night and the Sox won.

Good day,

Joe
