Hey All.

Still here, just drop in and check posts every once in awhile. Hope all the folks experiencing the heat make it thru w/o issues.

Been doing better, only one more trip to ER last week, ran a bunch of tests etc, adjusted meds and came home. Saw my GP and Cardiologist earlier this week resulting in more med adjustments, best news was that the EchoGram showed some improvement over initial test after heart attack. Sure will be glad when the energy level picks up a bit more.

Jack, Just happened to catch an episode of "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives" last nite about a little diner in Peabody. Looked and sounded really good, even had a "G" gauge 0-4-0 run around the ceiling.

Spent quite a bit of time on the net looking for restaurants with low sodium meals, results were not very good.

Gettin' a bit tired, catch y'all later.

Doug good to hear from you. Glad things are getting better

Not much happening here I get to finish my 9 days in a row of working tomorrow and then off for the weekend woo hoo.

Well got a adapter for my dremel a quick release chuck but it don't fit my dremel Bang Head so have to take it back tomorrow. chuck on my drill is to big for 1/32 drill bits and didn't really want to use it to drill with such a small and brittle drill bit but guess I have no choice but put some tape on the end and see if I can get drill to hold the bit or maybe try to drill it by hand if I can get a good enough grip on the bit with some tape or something on it. This is to install the handrails on the PB-1 by Williams I'm detailing.

Will see how it works out this weekend. Talk to you all later just got done taking wife grocery shopping so am tired

Gone.  Meetings over.  So hot and humid you can not move.  Can see the humidity.  Looks like smoke.  Did pour rain up the road 3 miles from here and only for a mile wide.  Had drops hit me today right after noon.  Hardly no cloud in the sky.  Took it that the Lord will be send more soon.  Weather alert went off this afternoon.  We are under a severe heat warning for today, tonight and thru Saturday.  Heat index over 110.

Going to stay inside and watch TV and snooze at the lake.  You know it is bad when Lucy and Finn go out and come right back in and stay.

Later.

Jack,

Have you ever tried to clean yellow 2023s? Mine are somewhat dirty, but I am hesistant to clean them.  I did take the bodies off to look around, and they appear to be very similar to the NW2 switchers mechanically.  Somebody worked on them before because there is a repro Delta Alarm horn in there.

Brent,

I thought about how you said that I should have restored the 624 to it's original appearance when I saw one at ToyTown.  I would have bought it, but I didn't have the $225 after buying what I did.  I am angry with myself for restoring them the way that I did.

Just as I got the 2333s done yesterday, another project came in.  I've wanted a nice 2037 for a long time, and I finally got one the other day.  It is extremely clean and only set me back $57. Thumbs Up  After I get the 2023s and 2343s done, I'll start on it.

Good evening all,

Laz - I have an aunt who still lives in Mahanoy City.  That's great running by you and your wife.  I enjoy those long runs; it gives me time to pray and dream about trains - that's a great combination.

SJ - My CTT just arrived today.  I briefly leafed through it; it looks like another great issue to me.

Probe - I'm sorry your views were ruined.  I know those Speedo's are popular in other countries, but I am sure glad they have never been fully accepted here.

RT - Great humor.

Dougagrump - Although restaurants do not post or advertise special diet meals, many of them offer special diet meals if you ask.  Our daughter was on a gluten free diet and once we asked many places had gluten free menus.  And even the ones that didn't have a menu would still work with us.  I can't count how many times the head chef would come out and ask us what we needed.  I'm sure you could get the same kind of service once you explain your situation.

I had a busy day at work, but a quiet night at home.  I played with the kids and ran the trains for a few minutes.  The Yankees lost another close one tonight.  I'm off to bed now.

Good night,

Joe

Doug - I'm on a no salt added diet now and eating out is always iffy, though we do it pretty often. Also watch bottled or canned spaghetti sauce! WOW! Hang in there, prayers continue!

Great car stories guys - really laughed out loud!

One day left of work this week. I was off today (sorry Chief) to take Charlene to get a follow-up bone marrow biopsy. They got a good aspirate and also her liver numbers were normal. The reduced her prednisone and took her off one of the other drugs entirely!!! This is great news!

Doug M – sounds and looks like you guys had a great trip!

RT – Laugh

8NT – sounds like a good trip!  It was 103 here actual temp today – wow!

SJ – forgot to tell you and Charlie tonight, but I got my CTT today Thumbs Up  TARDIS is ready and you can check out my issue on the ride Laugh  Congrats to Charlie on his new yacht!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Radio said 99 here today.  Tried to spend most of the time inside.

Picked up the new windows for the attic today.  Lovely trip in my un-air conditioned '72 Chevy pickup.  Son and I carried them into the attic.  Good enough for now until the heat breaks.

Stopped by the LHS for a bit.  The Minuteman searchlight car I had ordered came in.

Laz - maybe the Lokie's performance variations are due to fuel?  When it goes wonky, are you into a different batch of fuel?  Does a blowdown on the boiler help?  Higher solids content in the water in the boiler change how much steam the boiler makes.

All for now.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps near 100.  Work was extremely busy, but productive.  I think I got overheated yesterday at some point as I had an intestinal flare-up last night.  First one in over two months.  May have been some stress involved as well.  Did have a nice visit with a high school friend.  Kids cancelled garage sale due to heat.  Did get the CTT yesterday.  Noticed they moved "Collectible Classic" page from inside back cover.  Not sure what is going on there.  I had the regular fare on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  Brutus, good news on Char.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hello all

TGIF

Official high yesterday was 101. Highest I saw was 98. It was an oppressive 82 at 5:00 am this morning. No relief in sight.

Spent last evening piddling in the garden. Been watering a little each day. Should soon have tomatoes.

88 Keep us posted.

Hudson. If you are going to use your tractor consider an Oliver Super 55 or 550 (same tractor different hood) The Oliver is better in many areas. Brakes, horsepower, hydraulics ............... Back in the day Dad operated both on a regular basis. When I was going to look for an 8N he said no way. We're buying a Super 55.

Probe, after some research I found the Merry Go Round I was looking for had a price range of $100. to $225 online. I bought a used one the other day on the bay. $35.00 shipping included. I took a gamble because the seller had zero feedbacks and the photos were so so. Hope I'm not disappointed when it arrives.

Still haven't received moms new radiation schedule. I do know the first one will be Tuesday the 26th. Off to Pittsburgh again.

Brutus, great news

No time for trains. SS Fund calls

Prayers for those in need

Hi GUYZ,

80 at 530 this morning!  We had 101 yesterday and today they say it will be hotter.  Yesterday I got one 8x7 wall done with the stone veneer.  It was hot but kept drinking water and got through it with the help of a nice 10 mph breeze.  It was a hot breeze but it still was moving the air.  Today NO BREEZE.  I think I'll wait till tomorrow.

8N, Yes I think you are on to something with the stone and coal mix.  Seemed when we had bigger coal it ran better.  Now we are running this boney stuff its not as effeciant.  I wish we had that old rocket fuel.

Stay frosty bouyz,

Hang in there Doug......your medical news was good and most welcome.  All of us here are thinking good thoughts for you daily.  I sincerely hope your wife's stress levels over this are lower now.  I have a tendency to forget that my wife wears on her sleeve only a part of what she is thinking and feeling, and sometimes she stuffs down inside too much of it.   Prayers continue for your continued recovery and a for a dose of patience..  The lifestyle changes you face may be frustrating in the short term but are easily doable.  Thumbs Up

Regarding that diner you saw, the Little Depot Diner is about 6 miles due South of my place and about 5 minutes from where my daughter, granddaughters,  and son-in-law live.  The Little Depot Diner is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  It is located right across the street from the courthouse in Peabody Square (to the left in the picture) and has great food.

The location insures a steady stream of folks from the courthouse who need good food and fast.  The trains run all day long; and since the place is small, you are up close and personal to them, although they are safe, about 10 feet off the floor.  They run all the way around the Diner close to the ceiling as the picture shows.   I ate there every day while attending the criminal  trial of the guy who ran over and killed a close friend of ours (posts from March).

Hey!!!!!!!!!  This is New England!!!!!!!  We are not supposed to get weather like this, especially as warm as it is this close to the ocean (1 mile).  Even the great white sharks who prefer colder water are confused, with sitings off Cape Cod and the Islands South of me.  They even had a few of these rather large and less than benign shark hanging out about 8 miles due East of me, out off the Beverly and Salem harbors.  Enough geography.

It was 90 degrees at 9:30PM last night, 87 at 11PM, and 84 this AM at 6:30.  100 on tap for today, and the heat index topping 110.  Same for tomorrow.

Local news.....last week "they" found the body of a woman floating in a public pool.  She had been down at the bottom for 2-3 days before her body finally bloated and surfaced, all the while folks were swimming in the pool!!!  No one in her family had reported her missing, and she was at the pool with her kids!!!!  Apparently the water was so cloudy no one saw her down there on the bottom, for days!!!!

There were six life guards on duty each day, including one seen on video just a few feet away from her near the slide.  Video of this showed her go into the water off the slide, come up, and then disappear from view.  While the lifeguard was standing there.

Ironically, one of the state's pool inspectors showed up after she had drowned, saw nothing amiss with the cloudy water, and approved the pool to remain open despite the water condition.  Until she floated to the top and her body was recovered.

Later, gang.

Good afternoon,

I'd like to say TGIF as well, but Fridays always turn out to be the busiest day of the week for me.  We will be having our princess’s birthday party tonight; she turns 10 tomorrow.  We are having a pizza party for her at the base pool.  (Jack - The base's pool is dead-body free Ick!)  Instead of having a cake, she requested a mound of donuts.  Huh? Oh well, it's her party.

Good day,
Joe

Good evening all,

Terrible, terrible news out of Norway today.  Fortunately, all my friends and their families are ok, but when you read of events such as that and it occurs where you know people, it affects you a little differently.  My Norwegian soccer friend's sister lives fairly close to where the explosion occurred, but was away from the place when it happened.  While I am relieved they are ok, I am sad for the loss of life, especially the kids at the camp.  Puts everything in perspective.

Keep on training,

Good evening.  Had a interesting day in that I went in without any clue as to what case we were going to do and when.  Ended up being a great case and quick, but started a few hours late.

Got home to find the new CTT in the mail.  Looking forward to reading it.  Had to print off a bunch of photos from when we went to China for a project someone is doing in the OR.  One of those "I want to go there" presentations.  While doing so, my wife was looking at the adoption sites for any special needs kids....that may be the route we go.  Will have to pray about it.

Doug, good news.  Make sure that any drugs added or removed by your GP or Cardiologist are discussed with each other.  Once things are straightened out, most folks who are in other-wise good health return to "normal" activity within about 6 weeks.  A few things you want to be aware of is how much myocardial tissue was involved.  How long it was ischemic (without oxygenated blood flow) before it was opened.  And lastly, what type of collateral blood flow you have to the affected area.  This is one of the reasons someone in their 70's has a heart attack to a certain area and comes through it OK, yet someone in their 20's has the same blockage and doesn't make it.  Good luck finding places to eat with a true heart healthy menu.

Chief, have a good time at the lake.  Hope you stay cool!  Temps got down to the high 90's today.  We have had some afternoon showers the last few days and it has helped.  As the next week comes, they are calling for less rain and more heat...argh.

Tonight I read a report of a police officer in the next town over being shot.  The suspect was also shot and both are at the hospital being treated.  Don't have any of the details, but glad they got the bad guy.  Too many law enforcement getting shot and injured in the line of duty these days.

Well, time for bed.  Hope each of you have a great weekend.
God Bless,
Dennis

Mike - prayers and condolences to your friends.  What a terrible day there.  Angel

Nice chat tonight with SJ and Charlie.  Congrats to Charlie on selling his old boat and on his new, SUPER COOL, fishing boat.  Lucky duck!  I love it!  Maybe put an air horn on it, so it sounds like a big ole' freight train bearing down on someone on the lake?  Laugh  Oh, might scare the fish though!  BIG CONGRATS man!

Hope Fife has had a great trip and didn't run into one of those phony baloney Roscoe & Ennis or Cletis speed traps anywhere!  Laugh

TARDIS is ready and we have baked chips and queso or banilla, so belly up boys!

Good morning

77/88 today. Humidity is high. I checked the garden this morning and yesterdays showers didn't even penetrate the surface soil. It seems nobody's garden is doing well although we do have some tomatoes starting to turn, they should have been ripe by now. I'm not sure what today will bring but I'm ready...S.J.

Mornin' fellas and gals:       Really hot yesterday.  Was 105 on my porch thermometer, and it faces away from the sun!   The #2 son asked me if this was the hottest day i remember.   I answered hard to tell, since while growin' up we didn't even have screens on the windows, not to mention a.c.  Pretty hot that's fer sure, that's fer dang sure!    Wifey and i really don't much care for a.c., even today when we go to the mall, it's just too cold.  Where i live it's like a ghost town, no one goes out much, unless it's in a car. Unlike where i grew up, everyone was out all the time. You knew everyone and everyone knew you.  Neighbors were your best protection.  If i see my neighbors once a month it's an event!   Amazing!      Ranting is now complete for today, you may now resume your normal "pot" correspondence!     Laugh        later.

Think good thoughts, do good deeds!

Good afternoon all,

Our daughter had a great time at her pool party last night.  She received some nice gifts.  We bought her a Kindle.  I'm glad my 10y/o daughter enjoys reading so much that the Kindle was the only thing she wanted.  She left today with the in-laws to spend some time with them since we are moving in a few months.  I will be taking the boys out to Wal-Mart and other stores later on.  The 8y/o has some money to burn and needs wants a couple of new Star Wars figures.  The wife will be able to enjoy some quiet time.  Unfortunately it's too hot again to do much with the kids outside.

SJ and Traindood - I'm not a big fan of A/C either, but the wife can't go without it – she is the queen.  I didn't have it growing up either.

SJ - Our yard/garden looks horrible.  The base has us on a watering restriction (rightfully so) and the extreme heat is torching everything.  I'm glad I didn't plant any tomatoes or peppers this year.

Good day,

Joe

Afternoon All.

Great day yesterday ! The Better-Half drove me down to the museum, chatted with the crew and some visitors for awhile til I started to run out of gas. On the way home we went to one of my favorite burger places, "In-N-Out Burger", to try what the call a "Protein Style". Essentially it's one of their burgers w/the works in a lettuce wrap instead of a bun, I can get a good burger and still be way down on the sodium level. Not quite as good as the "double-double" I have ordered for years, but one has to adapt.Crying

Dennis, Communication is one of the biggest reasons we decided to put my care into this medical group. Everybody is in the same building, except the ER & Hospital, but they are all connected via computer. So far contact between specialties has been fantastic.

Just hope that I'll be up to doing the halloween layout this year.

Gotta go, catch y'all later.
