Laz - I know it, you guys are the best and can't wait to sit down and buy you an Old MIlls one of these days!
Don - well said. My point was that WE all know it is in good fun, but it might not SEEM like it to some. I"m keeping my TARDIS logo and I hope you run that up on your posts or the BTTS or OTTS or anything you like Anybody wants a TARDIS - just PM or email me. If your BTTS is broken, I think I can help you fix that as well
Well, today I did some plumbing - I didn't get to the point of pressurizing the new stuff yet - sure hope I got it right I still have a couple cuts and 7 joints to sweat. Quit for dinner and then Char had other chores for me like getting our old computer desk out of our bedroom and taking it to Goodwill. It weighed a couple hundred pounds, I swear!!! My son helped and then all four of us had to heave it up into the bed of the truck. She seems back to her old self again!
TARDIS is ready and we have rootbeer, Old Mills, and whatever you want, frankly - full service line
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Afternoon,
Had a really great afternoon! Got off work (1/2 day), then home and was playing with the trains! For some reason decided wanted to play with Lash Ups. Built 2 different ones, (All MTH engines). The first one was 3 engines; Headed up with a RailKing Big Boy up front, then a RK SD70, a ACe4400 Dummy, and finally the ACE4400 engine. The engines were pulling 34 cars. The other Lash-Up , consisted of 2 engines, the first a UP Mikado, and followed up with a NYC A5 switcher. It was pulling about 12 cars.
I had both trains running in opposite directions, with the smoke ON ! It was awesome !! Took no time and I had the room almost filled with smoke. They were all running perfect.
Did learn a little about engine id's in the remote, and impacts when running those engine in a lash-up. It is definetly best to dele the lash up when your done, rather than leaving it in the remote.
Hope everyone has a great day and fantastic weekend ! Stay safe.

Buckeye Riveter For all those who have been here on the pot less than four years, I'll set the record straight. When the Chief showed up on the forum, this thing was dead. Then he challenged me to a dual so I met him in Wheeling, WV with swords drawn. Unfortunately it was a dead heat and then LAZ and Chuck showed up on the forum and we invented the snow gun to blast Roseyville, NC every winter with Ohio Snow. After six scouting raids into the deep south, the Big One is being planned for 2012. Now everybody knows.

green97probe Brutus and Don, Well said. I personally don't see any reason anyone should be offended. It isn't inappropriate or vulgar, so I really don't know what the big deal is. It is clearly in good clean fun and nothing more. As for the clique issue, that really isn't an issue. That is a function of social interaction, plain and simple. From online forums, work, school, or wherever, that occurs naturally when people interact with one another. The worst thing one could do is assume that the clique isn't welcoming of others. Just jump in. I was one of those that felt like an outsider when I joined the CTT forum in 2003, but I quickly learned that it was all in my head. Once I jumped into it, I felt like I fit right in, and regrettted not giving it a try sooner. The way I see it, the more people that get involved, the better.

Well said Jim. I don't know what specifics Brutus is referring to, so I can't comment on that. I know it is all in good fun, and I have seen kidding among Pot members ( Buckeye and Chief comes to mind) that might seem like real fighting to someone new to the Pot, but it realy is all in fun.
Good morning all and wishing all of you a meaningful Memorial Day Weekend.
Haven't quite digested all the talk about logos and membership in various groups etc. I thought and still think it is all in fun. I enjoy the comraderie of ALL members of the pot and do not wish to upset anyone. Just my two cents worth.

Good light late morning everyone. While sleep was much needed, it was not to be. Everyone was being quiet to let me sleep when...BOOM, a tray was knocked over in the kitchen. Hard to go back to sleep after such a startling wake up call.
Don, yeah, it has never been an issue for me, but I think that your post was probably needed. Certainly for those who are new and may be looking at us as a bunch of crack-pots, or for those who may be offended. I am more thick skinned, and perhaps thick headed (ask my wife).
Jack, Ditto on the education. Our church has a sign that reads, "Whoever wants the next Generation the most, will get them." It is true, we can't complain about what our kids learn at school, or what they learn from their friends if we don't take the time to invest in them and control their environment. I am a firm believer that while we can't always control what our kids see, we can raise them so that they can make a godly judgement and have discernment.
Brutus, hope Char is feeling better today. It is tough when the ones we love are not well. I will include her and your whole family in prayer today.
Chief, hope you are having a fun time at the lake. We had some heavy storms come through last night while I was working. Saw quite a bit of water on the ground and lightning. Hope it doesn't interfere with your weekend.
Gotta get going. We are getting ready for a trip and my wife is anxious to do some shopping. It is obligatory that if we go out of town. Hope that each of you has a blessed Memorial Day and please remember why we are celebrating.
God Bless,Dennis

Good morning all!
Hot and muggy already and there's alot to do today outside. Some gardening, repair/update the grill with new parts and much more. So it looks like it will be a day for shedding some pounds!
DonB - As far as I could tell, from someone who isn't a member of anything, I just sat back and laughed. I saw the humor in it. But some peoples feelings I guess may have gotten hurt? I hope not because this is a great group here. One that I believe would never intentionally want to hurt anyone's feelings.
Jim - You and Char have been through alot. It looked like things were improving lately, but with some bumps in the road. Hope they end soon.
Dennis - When the going gets tough...........they page you. Nice job!
Joe - The Yanks lost a tuff one last night. These west coast trips make for long nights!
Jack - Your Saux won last night (again) and occupy the top spot. Don't get too use to it.
Chuck - 3 in a row? What's up with that? Although you still have a big lead with SJ's Tigers being only .500. Where's Al Kaline when you need him?

Don B., Laz, your York antigrits gag was the greatest.
Hi GUYZ,
Big storms blew in last nite and we go MORE RAIN!!!! NO trout fishin this weekend. That means more grass to cut.
DON BAKER well said. This is just a gag on lots of stuff that the people here who have actually met physically, with one another. At no time do we try and exclude anyone from conversations. If you were to meet us an event like YORK where sometimes it is the first time in getting to know these people you would just fit right in. After the last photo shoot at YORK, I think there were at least 5=6 different conversations going on and as one broke up people would venture back and forth to different groups and converse more. All told about a good hour to an hour and a half was spent just talking about everyday life. The same thing happened during THE GREAT GRITS CAPER II, we spent 2 + hours just talking and having a fun breakfast. This is not a click. If you were to show up and meet you would see for yourself. I know there will be people who roll their eyes on this one. Oh well?
Stay frosty and watch your topknot,

Good Mornin' Yall From Overcast Taxachusetts,
Just a quick spash and go as I have a lot of stuff to do today in prep for our granddaughter's big day tomorrow. Church at 9AM and later a cast of about 40 will descend on our place to celebrate with a cookout.
Thanks to Joe, Dennis, DougM, and all who commented on our schools and the home schooling options, and the concerns we all have about our children and their education. AF Ray may have said it best when he posted that the parents always have been and still are at the core of our children and their academic and social development.
What is a parent to do? Our best, nothing more and nothing less. I will leave this thought on the table. If you asked me the primary differences between the education process now and when I was a child, I would not be at a loss for an opinion or ten.
To me.....the curriculum plate is beyond beyond overflowing while the depth of the fundamentals (focus) have been watered down in the process. The administration and consequently the teachers have been handcuffed (with both curriculum and discipline matters). The dynamic of the nuclear family in support of the children at home has eroded, and we adults have overfilled our own plates at the expense of our children (grandchildren). Finally, the relative simplicity of life and society has been lost to superfluous information and electronic overcommunication. That to me is the recipe for the perfect storm. That is what I think.
I think most of these things are either fixable or can be mitigated, but it all starts at home. To me, there is no replacement for the quality time (not mindless quantity, filled with distractions) a parent or other family memeber spends with a child, whether that be sitting down and monitoring/helping with homework, discussing problems, or just doing things together......some mindless and some educational. There has to be some fun in there or I have lost my audience, my grandchild.
It comes down to "making time." I have to consciously force myself to shelve everything (adult) that will still be there tomorrow or is less important, turn off the gadgets, and focus on my granddaughter, one-on-one, with no distractions. She may not initially like my not so subtle drilling her on (say) math, spelling, geography, or history.....until I turn it into a game, a fun game, one I make sure she wins. She often asks why I turn off my phones and the TV, but she quickly seems happy I chose her over all else. And she is learning.
I see so many Potters pouring themselves into their children and it gives me joy. I embrace that, I admire that, and it leaves me knowing that there indeed is a solution, a better way to educating our kids. When parents step up.....
Jack

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a clear and sunny 60 degrees. Going up to 82 today with sunshine all day.
Today is a busy day. I have two projects to finish and the usual chores to do. I want to spend some time outside, enjoying the weather. Maybe a short nap later.
Indians got beat up again. I think they got some bad food, when they were out on the West Coast.
Dining car is here with the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Saturday.

Good dark early morning everyone. Just got back from an emergency....again. This week has been especially rough on the call. Had worked the day, got home to take family out for dinner. Just as we were finishing dinner, I get a page that they were sending a patient from another hospital that needed emergency surgery. All went well, but it makes for a very long day.
Joe, we have met some folks from out that way...all nice. Down here, we do get some bad weather, but it is not too bad and not too often. Biggest thing is staying cool during the 9 months of summer! Regarding your daughter, glad she is OK. Ours took a hard dive and still complains of neck pain. We are having to watch it for nearly two months now. She did the same thing as to toughing it out for the recital. Not so soon after the injury as yours though. Amazing how they bounce back.
Mike, I read an article where Danica was having to make a choice of Nascar or Indy racing soon. They say she only has a small window for several reasons. They think she will go with Nascar.
Well, I am bushed. Hope to check back tomorrow. Hope everyone has a blessed weekend and try to be a blessing to our troups and vets!
Evening -
Should have copied the entire post Jim had a LOT of good stuff in his thread.......
Joe - A fantastic tale of your daughter, what stamina and will power!
Jim - Prayers and wished for Char !!!!
Brutus All I'm going to say about a certain subject is that I hope it does not appear to outsiders or sometimes visitors that "real lines" are being drawn and, too, I hope that feelings are not being hurt by some of the current gags going on. We all know it is all in good fun, right? I know one person who did get their feelings hurt already and others are not sure. I'm done on that issue.

After reading the paragraph above, I wanted to add a comment or two about the topic, I THINK that is being referred to. Jim is 100% on target, that all the stuff is a big gag, and nothing else. I have no idea how many may have been "peeved" or "upset" by the antics, if so I appologize.
Here is what "I" believe has transpired.....
- The "grits", snowohizo, the "kibitizing" between the Nawth and South, etc. all jabs and fun over the past 5 or 6 years ......... No Harm
- The history of the "grits invasions", at York and other inicidents, --- more fun.
- So I knew last fall, that another grits invasion was going to occur in York. And having being "sworn" to secrecy, what do I do?? Hmmm, So, I decided to make up badges, and other "dumb" ideas for York. Those that were able to get to the breakfast had a great time, and at the traditional Photo shot. Great time. And Laz was hilarious.
- So AFTER York, (on the forum) some of the guys were giving me a "bad" time because I didn't "warn" them. (And here I thought I had put in a lot of work for another joke, and had fun doin it.) So what happens.... Buckey suspends me from OTTS ! And Chuck, and Laz get it on it. I thought that was hilarious! Then to think I do extra stuff and still get suspended??? LOL. So to go along with the idea I had the "Temporary Suspended" tag added to my signature block.
- After, a "month" of my suspension it was lifted, (I had been told on the forum that I was to turn the membership certificate around facing the wall, in my train room during the "suspension". I played it up with my family, and just turned it around and did not tell them why. We had fun with it. I thought it was great.)
- Then Chief commented we need to have another group other than OTTS. (given OTTS is North, needed something for the South, hence the BTTS). So we started talking and thinking, tried to come up with a certificate, but was having difficulty coming up with a design in an appropriate time frame. Did come up with the "Proud Member of BTTS". And that was put out, no real thought given in to whom, just threw some names out.
This whole thing would probably had a much more comic value but the Chief hasn't been available for comment or posting the past couple of weeks. So there hasn't been much going on with the whole thing.
Then the Spinning "Tardis", came into being. I thought that was a great idea, as well.
All of it being nothing more than just fooling around and having fun.
Now after thinking about everything, including what I've written here, I think a different direction is probably necessary.
1. Some people on THIS forum or other forums think that the Coffee Pot is made up of a few persons in a "Click", and it is difficult to "get into or being accepted".
2. Don't want to offend "existing participants", but certainly would not want to create any issues for new or casual participants.
3. The addition of the icon to the signature space of a post, will result in the icon appearing in ALL posts that are made, (including previous ones). Also the icons may seem very odd or inappropriate in threads outside of the Coffee Pot.
4. Finally, I think the guys who have had OTTS certificates in there signature field for a number of years, could end up with theirs removed because of a joke. I would NOT want to see that hapen.
Finally, suffice it to say I will be much more cautious in the future.

Wind shifted around to come out of the east again today. Clouds followed soon thereafter. Thunderstorms forecast for tonight & tomorrow.
Going to try to get some train time in this weekend. My train table needs cleaning, and there are some maintenance items that need to be done. Might get the two axle magnetraction hop up done on my #600 switcher too.
All for now.

SJ - rootbeer will be great :) Joe - glad your daughter was able to perform and you must really be proud of her! Hope she heals up fast! Wife is doing a lot better - was able to eat some dinner and now she is hungry again. She is still having some problems, but not vomiting, so that's good. We think she got another bug and her new immune system is working on it, but it looks like the worst is over. Still, we will stay home this weekend and do some stuff with my family on Monday afternoon. She already has made plans for some pottery painting tomorrow with our daughter and some friends, too. Thanks for prayers and good wishes guys. I hope all know that I read all your posts and really cherish them and all the good fellowship we have going on here on the coffee pot! TARDIS is ready and we have some supplies to drop off for those who are in need, so let's get going men.

70 at exit 77 and it's going to mid 80's this weekend! NICE!
Just a quick thanks to all the vets out there, either active or not. We all owe you more thanks than we can give. I found myself youtubeing alot of John Philip Sousa songs today. Sets the tone for the weekend.
MikeC - I don't know about those storms and tornados but WOW! Prayers for those that need them out there.
DougM - As for as kids in the classroom goes, I believe they will only go as far as their parents help them go. If the parents aren't involved in the kids education and take an interest in it, they have a severe uphill climb. Looks like you and your wife show alot attention to them, as we all should. It pays big dividends later.
Joe - I suspect your daughters actions closely resemble you or your wifes attitude about not quitting. Congrats to her and you. As for the Yanks, so far at games I've gone to this year we are 3 and 2. However we lost the last two!
John - Thanks for the box. I picked it up the other day while you were out. It was a tender for my new (old) AF 565 Ogauge S scale Loco. The seller shipped a Lionel with the Loco and had to replace it, I tested it right away and it runs fine.
Have a safe weekend everyone and remeber the Vets!
Good afternoon all,
A big thank you to D. Baker for talking me through some computer problems. I'm off now to my first physical threapy session of eight. I need to do two per week for four weeks for the knee.
Best wishes to everyone for a happy and meaningful Memorial Day week end. Especially to those that gave all for our country.

Good morning all,
It is very sunny today and it is going to be very warm. I have a busy day ahead of me so I can enjoy the extended weekend.
Last night was our daughter's ballet and jazz recital. I am extremely proud of her, but not just for how well she danced. Earlier in the day she was playing as normal kids do and decided to attempt a back flip off the back of the couch. Well, she didn't stick the dismount and sort of landed on her neck. She was in great pain and after a trip to the Urgent Care clinic it was determined she tore her trapezoid muscle. The doctor gave her a shot and left it up to her and us as to whether she would be able to dance. Our daughter had prepared for the recital for the past five months and said she was going to dance, and she did. You could tell she was not as fluid as normal since she could not turn her head all the way to the right or move her right should very well, but she smiled the whole time on stage and danced her heart out for her ballet piece and jazz piece. It is easy to tell our son to play baseball if he is in pain because boys are supposed to, but last night our daughter proved she is no wimp either.
Thanks Jack. Yes, let’s all take time on Monday to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for us all.
It's time to get back to work.
Joe
Cheapclassics - Glad you and yours are ok. From my experience, losing trees sometimes is a good thing. I now have a beautiful garden where 4 cedars used to be.
Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny and Warm Cape Ann Taxachusetts,
First, as Memorial Day approaches, I would like to take a moment to thank and salute all of the brave service men and women, past and present, including JoeyD, for their service to their country and to each of us.
I'll be praying for my Dad (RIP) and calling my FIL to thank them for what they endured fighting in the Pacific theater during WWII. Both have always humbly downplayed their service, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to do some reading and TV-watching to fully realize the horrors and sacrifice that our servicepeople had to endure when, almost 70 years ago, we were on the very brink of possible invasion and conquest, from two directions. It is estimated that 70+ million soldiers and civilians combined lost their lives in WWII.
So when some question why it is necessary for the U.S. to be out on the front lines in so many hot spots throughout the world, why it seems like "we" and our allies have to be the top world cops, they only have to look at history for the answer or consider the seeming malaise amongst the current generation. I wish it were not so, but the alternative is beyond horrific. "A pound of prevention......." And "those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it."
Brutus.......you have my prayers that your Char is feeling better. Some of her "life's routines" may have been altered, and she may be disappointed that the weekend plans have been changed and scaled back. But I am certain that your charm, ingenuity, and positive mental attitude will get her through this.
WOW!!!!! Sun continues. Generally clear weather forecast for the holiday weekend, mid 70s, with 80 on tap for Monday. Got a tad sunburned catching up on some yard work yesterday, 5 hours spent out there. Wifey and I have a lot of activities planned for the weekend......granddaughter's play tonight, Confirmation, and First Communion this weekend. About 40 to show up Sunday for the post FC party, and you know who is hosting. So yesterday was major mowing and trimming and poo patrol . Wifey actually noticed that the lawn and landscaping was really coming along. House cleaning and other party prep on tap for Sunday's onslaught.
The weather-related events (tornadoes, rains, and floods) of the past few weeks seem to have left most of us relatively unaffected. MikeC and Brutus thankfully have matters well in hand. Prayers for those less fortunate than I. I read with interest Joe's exchange with Dennis about tornado alley and in general picking your weather poison. I'll take my snow, Winter temps (and heating fuel costs), the N'oreasters, getting rimmed by the occasional edge of a hurricane passing out to sea, and the shorter "outdoor season."
Gas prices slowly edging downward in these parts....$3.75 for 87 regular, about $1.00 per gallon higher than last year. Since the wife and I presently drive combined about 30,000 miles a year, we are getting eaten up by a two edged annual fuel cost, heating oil and gas. With the air conditioning approaching and the temps rising, my electric costs will soon be taking over where the fuel oil burden left off. These are financial burdens many of us gave no thought to 4 decades ago when energy costs were all so relatively cheap and not so much of a burden.
I will take a moment to say a prayer that this is a wonderful, safe, and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend for each of you, my fellow Potters.
Later, gang.
PS: 14-2, sorry about that, SJ.
