Good Evening

43, another gloomy day.

We had  company for a late lunch, had a chicken dinner and ran some trains for them. I'm trying to get this post in before they turn out the lights and roll up the sidewalk. I know the forum is a gift to us but it ain't workin right. Banilla is ready and I guess we can toss in some rootbeer too...S.J.

Mostly cloudy and about 50.

Glad everybody seems to have made it through the recent storms.

My e-bay 6418 flat car arrived today.  I don't recall ever handling one of these before.  It is an impressive car.

One of my work projects years ago was moving a large press.  Three of the components were large enough that they had to go by rail.  The cars were 16 wheel heavy duty flat decks.  I am considering scratching up a load for the 6418 that will mimic one of my press pieces.

All for now.

I think at work I saw a pic of a WWII olive green flat with a cannon mounted to it I thought of getting one of those and doing that to it.

One of the large artillery pieces with the 8 wheel carriage would look good.  What were they called - 'Long Toms'?

This site is not worth the wait. AngryAngryAngry AngryAngryAngry AngryAngryAngry

Why I have not posted.  I do not have time to watch "waiting for cs.trains.com".  I tried IE and it was slow.  Went to Firefox and it flew.  Then suddenly it "locked up" and was taking longer than IE.

dbaker48

As Paul Harvey would say...."Now for the Rest of the Story"

I had a significant delima to ponder about.  I knew the Chief was going to the show, and was Sworn to secrecy.  And knowing that he no doubt would be setting up another major "Grits Invasion", and felt I had a responsibility to everyone else for their well being.  So I thought I would try to provide the best "Warning", I could and was hoping their might be some Yankee look outs on hand.

I put into place a multi faceted plan. First, a direct counter attack for the Grits, and Second, a pre-warning alert.  Unfortunately, I must report that both scenerios failed. Black Eye

From all the research I had done I thought the most effective counter measure against the Grits, would be SCRAPPLE.  From everything I've heard it seemed it would meet all the requirements.  Locally available, an acquired taste product,  However, I felt it was best for "trial" test,

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1da01b3127ccefcbdd9a2c97700000030O00EZOWbRmyYsQe3nwk/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

Now this is one of the most daring, and definetly sacrificing thing I've done.  For those not familiar, allegedly the above photo is representative of SCRAPPLE.  It is supposed to be fried pork, commonly served with maple syrup.  MAN, this stuff is NASTY!!!!  Would you believe Kal Kan in a can?  I did my part first tried it plain, (then the waitress) suggested the syrup.  (What a waste of syrup)  I decided that there is NO ONE that would deserve that type of fate!!  So the Scrapple idea was aborted.  It would have been similiar to using Mustard Gas or something, Everyone would have had permament damage.

On to the Second line of defense/information.......

I thought an early warning system would be the most effective means I could provide.  So I devised a "BADGE" that would provide early warning for EVERYONE, walking thru the show.

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1da01b3127ccefcbd9ab608ea00000030O00EZOWbRmyYsQe3nwk/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

The most difficult aspect of this, was to convince the Chief that the badge needed to be worn early on.  I thought this might be difficult, boy I was wrong.  I suggested that he might want to wear the badge so that, "Some of the people that "did not know" you were going to be here, would ""know" who you are".  I also pointed out that his avatar was on it, for easy identification.  He ate this up, couldn't get the badge on fast enough.  I had 3 others in reseve in case of "loss", or "left in room",  I didn't even need them.  Now wouldn't you think that some of the Yankees would have picked up on this????   They were asleep at the wheel !!

So Friday morning comes around and here we are;

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1da01b3127ccefcbd4b6a48c600000030O00EZOWbRmyYsQe3nwk/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

(Wes from TW, Roy, Laz, Pam (Laz's lovely wife), Glen (traindoc), John Fullerton, and Chief)  Brent hadn't arrived yet.

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1da01b3127ccefcbd353948aa00000030O00EZOWbRmyYsQe3nwk/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

Laz with typical Grits response.  He was looking for a place to dump them.  Note: Roy had already consumed a hugh 9" platter, he reportedly had to make an "Emergency Run" to the facilities.

Even though the northern fellas were shamelessly out manuvered, I felt each of them deserved an honorable badge of distinction.

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1da01b3127ccefcbda81e896b00000030O00EZOWbRmyYsQe3nwk/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

I don't want to take a chance of losing everything so will have another post up directly with pictures

Only goes to prove that Yankees can be told, "The sky is falling" and they will not believe it until it hits them in the head.  Laugh

Well, finished sawing and hauling.  Mowed grass this AM and attended Pam's retirement party this afternoon.  Back from Lowes.  Off to the lake house for a rest.  Going back next week and finish siding on storage building.

I'll try again tonight - hope I don't lose everything again.  Short version: Prayers for everybody.  Sorry we missed each other, Doug?  More shenanigans at work and now they are trying to change our critical elements to include workload managment?  I thought that was like all the managers did other than record leave?  Guess they need more time for meetings to find out why morale is in the depths of Moria lately.  Had a scare with Char, but seems like things are okay again.  Trying to decide what to get from the new online catalog - I have like 175 for trains now thanks to some buddies.  Probably get the halloween stuff as usual Smile  TARDIS is ready, hope Mike can drive?

Good evening,

The site is a little faster for me right now which is not usual for this time.  We had breakfast for dinner tonight: chocolate chip pancakes; blueberry pancakes; and bacon.  That meal will never get old.  After dinner we had Bible study.  After getting home and getting the kids to bed I watched the latest episode of the UFC I recorded.

SJ - You mentioned Charlie's ZW worked; was it used or a new ZW-L?

Chief - Did you enjoy the scrapple?  I love it and try to have it every time I go back home to PA.

AF53 Ray - The Yankees won.  That was a big win for Colon.

Good night,

Mornin' Fellas.

Been busy since York - not even time to open the pictures and post the group shot! UGH!

Note on Scrapple - there are many, many, many different versions and the flavor is different whereever you go. Scrapple is the remnants of the pig after butchering, and the 'quality' of it depends on the butcher and the spices they use and if the Scrapple is smoked or not. My Mother's Cousin's Brother-In-Law used to be a pig farmer and he spent years perfecting his Scrapple recipe and it is by far and away the best I've ever had and will never have again since he passed away about 6 years ago. Sad I also prefer my Scrapple cut about 1/2 the thickness that was in the picture and fried a bit harder and in bacon grease.

As some of you know The Q and I have been on a quest to adopt a child. We've had some promising leads, but they have all fallen through for one reason or another. We had all but given up and started moving exercise equipment and other stuff into what was supposed to be the nursery, and even started remodelling the spare bathroom last weekend. Well Tuesday afternoon we were matched with a birth mother in FL who is due to deliver a baby girl on 8/12!!!!!! Keep your fingers, toes, eyes, and ears crossed!

Aloha all. Sunny but cold. Jealous of all you with better weather. Still running the furnace here. Hope to play with trains tonight. Remembered my dad on his birthday yesterday - drank stale coffee, ate chocolate cake and read the NY Times from cover to cover. LOL. The Indians and Yanks are sure playing well. My White Sox stink. Hang in there, Brutus. Glad Char is OK. Haven't heard from Jack for a while. Hope things are OK in Taxachusetts.  Cheerios for b'fast sounds good.

Boy, the TCA museum sure looks great - I love the display case that looks like the Mint car. How neat is that!

Morning all.  Seems a bit faster on this site right now.  Lets see if I can get this posted before it slows again.  Brent, Kim and I may also be getting a baby soon.  We have a friend who's daughter is pregnant and no way prepared to be a parent.  We had been looking at China again, but this may put that off.  See where God guides us.

Cloudy right now.  Supposed to have storms today and tomorrow.  Could use some more rain for the peach trees.  Landscapers came yesterday and did a good job of putting out pine straw mulch around a number of the trees.

It is time for me to head in.  Think I will stop over at Lowe's to get some new faucets for the master bathroom .  Wife actually has enough faith in my ability to pick out something nice that she will like....hope I don't drop the ball on this one.

Chief, please pass along our congratulations to Pam for her retirement.  Will she run for political office and get all those free meals now?Wink

God Bless,
Dennis

Brent,

As for scrapple, you lost me at "remnants".Huh?Ick!  Angel for you and The Q.

The 022 switches arrived yesterday.  They need some work (cleaning, lanterns, motor cover screws, and controllers rewired) but for $26 with a 1952 box isn't bad.  Both controllers and one of the switches use screw type bulbs, while the other switch has a bayonette lamp bracket.  That bothered me, but another complete motor for $5 from a favorite seller of RT and myself (I know, but I couldn't pass it by) should fix that.

Sunny and 53 going to 58 today at exit 77 on the GSP.

Another relaxing day today and the good doctor gets his stapples back this afternoon. Late yesterday my son and I went and bought weed and feed as he put it down as I watched, just watching how much I lift. I usually put it down a week or so earlier but something got in the way.

Bent - Good luck this time, you've sure been trying long enough hopefully this will be it.

DougM - How do you feel about you skipper Ozzie? I can imagine at times you love him for what he has done for you but sometimes you feel like "why can't he just keep his mouth shut"!

Dennis - When I fell into the trap of thinking my wife had enough faith in me to pick something out I was almost always wrong. So having learned that lesson long ago I've been asking her to go with me and have her pick "it" out as I seldom care about what "it" looks like.

Take Care,

Good morning all,

It will be another comfortable day today with the high around 69.  I had some leftover pancakes for breakfast this morning.  I have the usual tasks at work today, but I will step out of the office for an hour this afternoon to attend our son's school program.  My wife and in-laws watched the dress rehearsal yesterday afternoon and said it was entertaining.

Brent – I hope everything works out with this adoption.

Ray – Have fun at the staple removal.

SJ – Due to my lack of experience I avoid buying used transformers.  I suppose if I knew the seller I would.  I'm glad Charlie's worked fine.

Chief – I'm sorry you missed out on the scrapple.

Probe – How is the engine restoration coming along?

Good day,

Joe

Forum runs fine during the day and bad at night. Must be some maintenance of their servers going on?

Chief - congrats on Pam's retirement! Regarding the scrapple,

Sorry, Don Baker ate it all.  Would not share.  Even after I shared my grits with him. Whistling

I can vouch for the Chief on this one...Yes

Brent - Congrats on the adoption possibility!

Brutus - have fun man with your proposed train purchases and continued prayers for Char Angel

Ray - good to hear the staples are being returned soon!

Buckeye - Don should have to wear an ankle braclet also - have him tie a ZW around his ankle.

Cloudy/70's here today and we have a bit of rain. May help with the fires out west. The Possum Kingdom Lake area had a good rain storm to their north, but majority of fires are on the south side of the lake. Hopefully todays light rain is hitting the south side.

Have a great day all!

Unfortunately it looks like all the pictures have been deleted from the posts.  (Probably the cause of the slow-down on the forum?   Questionable)

dwiemer

Don, it is good to see that you wouldn't get a trivial thing like facts get in the way of a good story.  It sounds like a fun time was had.  Thanks for sharing.

Dennis, Now how could I make all that stuff up.  Roy was there, and in a prior picture he was scarfing down a huge bowl of the stuff.  Then all of a sudden, he disappears!  Right when all the festivities are unfolding.  I ask you where could he have gone to.  As indicated in the photo (unfortunately now removed) he is absent!  And, after all, this whole scene was at a Dennys Rest..  So where else could he have gone??

Regarding the Scrapple ---  I have done many, many things out of a "sense of duty" but that was truly the most painful, lingering affect, distasteful thing I have ever done!!  EVEN the waitress was surprised that anyone would order the stuff there (Around the "timer" diner), She felt soo bad that I wasn't charged for the breakfast, Fortunately, had a MD traveling with us, so felt relatively safe.

Sorry, Don Baker ate it all.  Would not share.  Even after I shared my grits with him.    Not quite true - He wasn't on site at the time, and regarding the grits...... I managed to avoid them as well!!  While taking photos I simply moved the dish to a different location, noone was the wiser.

Laz - It appears I am in deep doo-doo with OTTS, (appears a newly formed rule), so I better maintain a low profile.  HOWEVER, if I wasn't in trouble, I would certainly recommend YOU for the Most Staunch Supporter of the Anti-Grits Movement.  Your immediate reaction to the attack was heroic, and the immediate defense that you and Pam implemented and documented says it all. I am a bit concerned regarding your comments on Scrapple, I think you may be sufferening from a bad case of Grits Over Exposure, causing complete disruption of sensory perception.

Brent -  THAT NEWS IS GREAT!!!  WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU AND SUSIE-Q.  (However just to be on the safe side, don't play up the scrapple stuff to much.)

My Mother's Cousin's Brother-In-Law used to be a pig farmer and he spent years perfecting his Scrapple recipe and it is by far and away the best I've ever had   -- Case in point, notice the family distancing?  I'm telling you all this is NASTY Stuff, can even break up families!!!

Doug - Your right on about the TCA Museum, the display cases are absolutely fantastic!!  A huge amount items there that I would never see if not there.  The whole area of Strausburg is really great.

By the way seems we have a ball team for sale out here, think any interest for Chicago?

QUOTE:

Shake and Bake.....Due a violation of Rule A1 of the OTTS by-laws for not notifing in advance those OTTS members in good standing that the Rascal from North Carolina was heading northward for a grits invasion at York, PA, your membership has been suspended in OTTS for one month and two days.  Please turn your beautiful wall certificate over for the next 1 month and 7 days to remind you of your mis-deeds.

DEVASTATION -- DEVASTATION -- DEVASTATION

I can handle this!  I know sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the benefit of all.  And I fully acknowledge that this may be one of those occasions.  I have reviewed my actions and realized my failure. -----

- Sucessfully infiltrated the brazen grits infrastructure.  (To the extent that EVEN their first line officers were not aware of the planned invasion)

- Devised a EARLY warning system, and was able to successfully implement same.

- Provided for a Survivor honorarium for those who may have been brutely assulated.

Obvious Failure was not getting a "Big Enough 2 x 4"

I can take this on the chin, and remain steadfast, realizing that in the future, I will have to just realize that more significant efforts will have to be made.

Black EyeSad

BTW,  noticed my OTTS Certificate was EVEN removed from my signature.  Hmm (Seems Corrected now)

(Did run that "new" engine last night.  It has a better sound system than the Premier ones I have.  Will post photos but don't want to bring down server.  Shhh)
