NIce and quiet relaxing day here at home. Last night went to Hudson#685 to pick up my latest "find" a prewar AF baggage car from the 1920's. Nice! This afternoon 8 of my inlaws and I went to my brother in laws cemetery as today would have been his 48th birthday. So we all drank in his honor a shot of Baileys Irish Cream, his favorite, followed by going out to lunch.

Talk to you later

SPMan - Your neighbor didn't call you Fredo, did he...? Tongue Tied

http://blawgletter.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/03/31/fredo.jpg

Fife, man that was cold!  I admit, I am not crazy about some of the things going on next door but I still maintain a live and let live attitude towards my neighbor.  I asked him how long it had been since the boat was in the water and he said three years.  Looks like it will sit more than sail.  He also offered me a beer yesterday and a chance to sit in the boat but I declined since I don't drink.  Probably made a few more points with that.  Actually it would be hard  for me to climb up a ladder from the ground and  get into that thing anyway.  The real reason was something else came up so his next door neighbor from the other side who is a retired tug boat captain and myself went home.  The tug captain said he didn't need anymore boat riding after a lifetime of it.  I told him that it was about 10 years after I retired from the railroad before I took a train ride.

D. Baker, thanks for the York story and the photos.  Man! you were right about that scrabble.  That looks like lethal stuff.  I can eat grits all day but don't think I'd want to mess with scrabble.  Nice badge you made for his honor and the other ones for the "survivors".

Woke up today with what feels like bronchitis.  Hurts when you cough like there is inflamation in the bronchial tubes..  Had to cancel dinner engagement tonight and Dr. Appointment rescheduled.  Have appointment with regular pulmanary doctor next Tuesday if I can wait that long.  Might have to go in sooner if it gets worse.

Just have to lay low today and see if I can get to feeling better.

Later, Ray

York 2011, continued.

After we finished the 1st day of touring, some of us went out to John Fullerton's place to run some trains.  And he had a great evening in store for us!

A recently acquired T1 was beginning to make the rounds.  This guy was a real smoker.

Then, a PAIR of Decopods showed up in a Lash Up!

John, had added a set of Tin Plate to his livery.  Boy is this stuff ever sharp.  These reproductions really add some history and interest to a layout.  I see this little trip is going to cost me before its said and done.

John's Layout is fantastic, even to the point of camera's monitoring activities going on in the other room.  THANKS JOHN !!!

The next couple of days spent at the convention hall, just SO much to see.  I think I read that there is an equivalent to 7 1/2 miles of tables and displays.  Amazing.   I managed to bring home a couple of items, a series of building facades, an electric "Drive In"  sign from Miller Engineering.  Also picked up a diesel engine.  Seems a dealer was trying to get rid a engine with a less than desirable Road Name.  It was one of those funky old NS engines.  (Not bad though a NEW PS2, for less than 50% of book value.  ($30)  Will post a picture when I find it in the luggage.

Saturday, we went out to see the Pennsylvania RR Museum, TCA Museum, and Choo Choo Barn.  Some pics if you havn't been there.  (ITS WORTH THE TIME !!!!)

John does volunteer work here weekly.  This is one of the engines he normally displays.

A few shots in the TCA Museum, what a great job they have done with the displays.

JUST A REALLY GREAT EVENT, ALL THE WAY AROUND !!!  I FEEL REALLY BLESSED TO HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE IT TWICE.   THANKS TO ALL !!!

Lunch Time,

Staff Infection Meeting was surprisingly quick and not too bad. Do more with less and no OT. OK, let's see where this goes.

Roy, Monday is our 8am conference call. Great way to start the week.

Laz, Great touchdown spin.

Joe, My congrats on your son's team win.

Don, Thanks for sharing the rest of the story of York. I totally agree with you on the friendships here and encouragement of the hobby and life in general.

Back to work, 22mo. 9days, 11hrs and 40min to retirement.

Ya know - thought I could trust Don with accurate reporting until this line came up Dunce. Completely false/fabricated. Don - I guess you can work for the Wall Street Journal now! Laugh

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Here it is a practically a week after York, and I still havn't gotten anything posted !!

First, a couple of serious issues:

- With all the weather issues going through the country both last week, and this week.  It certainly puts things in perspective!  We may kid around regarding the Grits, Snohizo, Quakes, etc..  But sure hate to see any of that stuff go down.  It sure shows how insignificant our daily issues are, AND how much we really have control of our lives.

- Second, With last week being only the second time I have been to York, the opportunity of meeting all the guys from this forum that manage to make the trek, is by far the most important aspect of the trip!  I truly want to Thank all of you for your contributions to the forum, and the friendship.  I know the involvement that I have with this hobby is largely due to the all interaction that is available today.  THANKS !

Now back to normal.......,

As Paul Harvey would say...."Now for the Rest of the Story"

I had a significant delima to ponder about.  I knew the Chief was going to the show, and was Sworn to secrecy.  And knowing that he no doubt would be setting up another major "Grits Invasion", and felt I had a responsibility to everyone else for their well being.  So I thought I would try to provide the best "Warning", I could and was hoping their might be some Yankee look outs on hand.

I put into place a multi faceted plan. First, a direct counter attack for the Grits, and Second, a pre-warning alert.  Unfortunately, I must report that both scenerios failed. Black Eye

From all the research I had done I thought the most effective counter measure against the Grits, would be SCRAPPLE.  From everything I've heard it seemed it would meet all the requirements.  Locally available, an acquired taste product,  However, I felt it was best for "trial" test,

Now this is one of the most daring, and definetly sacrificing thing I've done.  For those not familiar, allegedly the above photo is representative of SCRAPPLE.  It is supposed to be fried pork, commonly served with maple syrup.  MAN, this stuff is NASTY!!!!  Would you believe Kal Kan in a can?  I did my part first tried it plain, (then the waitress) suggested the syrup.  (What a waste of syrup)  I decided that there is NO ONE that would deserve that type of fate!!  So the Scrapple idea was aborted.  It would have been similiar to using Mustard Gas or something, Everyone would have had permament damage.

On to the Second line of defense/information.......

I thought an early warning system would be the most effective means I could provide.  So I devised a "BADGE" that would provide early warning for EVERYONE, walking thru the show.

The most difficult aspect of this, was to convince the Chief that the badge needed to be worn early on.  I thought this might be difficult, boy I was wrong.  I suggested that he might want to wear the badge so that, "Some of the people that "did not know" you were going to be here, would ""know" who you are".  I also pointed out that his avatar was on it, for easy identification.  He ate this up, couldn't get the badge on fast enough.  I had 3 others in reseve in case of "loss", or "left in room",  I didn't even need them.  Now wouldn't you think that some of the Yankees would have picked up on this????   They were asleep at the wheel !!

So Friday morning comes around and here we are;

(Wes from TW, Roy, Laz, Pam (Laz's lovely wife), Glen (traindoc), John Fullerton, and Chief)  Brent hadn't arrived yet.

Laz with typical Grits response.  He was looking for a place to dump them.  Note: Roy had already consumed a hugh 9" platter, he reportedly had to make an "Emergency Run" to the facilities.

Even though the northern fellas were shamelessly out manuvered, I felt each of them deserved an honorable badge of distinction.

I don't want to take a chance of losing everything so will have another post up directly with pictures

Good morning all,

Our son's team won their first regular season baseball game.  The boy went 2 for 3 with a couple of RBIs.  The other did not hit so well so he did not see any action in the outfield.  Unless the site becomes faster at night, I am finished trying to post after 6pm CST.

It is a little cooler today than it was yesterday; the high is only 68.  I had a nice run this morning and had oatmeal and coffee for breakfast.  I have plenty of administrative work to care of today.

Fife - Congratulations on surpassing the 4,000 mark.

AF53 Ray and John - I never count the Red Sox out, they have some quality players.  I used to work for a diehard Red Sox fan and needless to say we had some fun conversations during baseball season.  Mo blew a save yesterday.  I guess he's entitled to blow one every now and then.

Good day,

Joe

We were slammed last night.  The sirens went off at about 2:30 am and there are reports of tornado touchdowns around Ohio.

How many touchdowns did the tornados score?  What was final score of the game?

You left out the part "Buckeye - come out with your hands up!"

Cloudy here today and maybe some rain this afternoon. Got about 1/2 inch last night and it was the good soaking kind vs a fast moving deluge. Should only be 77 today Yeah

Busy day with conference calls, etc. Our "staff infection" meetings are on Mondays - always at 9 am (to make sure everyone is on the job first thing).

Have a great day all!

Aloha. Only 36 here. Lotsa rain and lightning last night. The Loop at 9 pm looked liked the set for 'Singing in the Rain'. No matter what you hear, that wasn't me hanging from the lamp post. Dennis, thanks for the Dremel link!  Roy, thinking of you whilst hearing about those fires. Glad you are not affected. 8n - LOL. RT, missed the Tardis again it seems.

39 now, 50 later, maybe. April weather has been a big disappointment. Storms last night but I didn't hear any of it. The snow was in northern Michigan, we got rain. Cereal for breakfast and an early dinner here with some friends..Maybe they will want to see the trains...S.J.

Still snowing lightly here this morning and its supposed to stop sometime mid morning. It hasn't amounted to as much as the predictions.  The streets are wet, but there is an accumulation of 2" on grassy areas.  Just think of all the money I'm saving on gas by not running my mower.

I've taken off work for the rest of the week so I have time to do some projects on the layout.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is 60 degrees. Rained all night again and is still raining. Lots of flooding in low areas.

Today is an easy day. I have a few chores to do and some paperwork. Then, I can relax. Maybe I will spend some time in the train room.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Good Morning,

SPMan, Ray, your neighbor would fit right in my neighborhood. I am getting ready to bring my 26' boat home to do some upgrades. I will use the 18' during the summer and the 26' in the fall for the stripers.

Demay / AF53: Joe, Ray, It is a good thing that you two do not live next to Ray's sister Linda's neighbor. A real Red Sox Fan.

Chief, Next you will be telling us it was a NY Mets card.

Dennis: Thanks for the tip on the Dremmel.

Roy, after that good bust on Ray, you would think that Fife was from Joisey.

8n, I would call that a GREAT DAY. I have an all day Staff Meeting or as I like to refer to it as a Staff Infection Meeting.

Everyone, Have a Great Day.

Fife - that's cold man...real cold...Whistling

Had a nice rain here this evening - but the rains completely missed the fires west of town. 150 homes burned so far near Possum Kingdom lake. Big beautiful lake - fires so bad there that the lake is closed to all boating except emerg personnel. Helicopters dipping water out of the lake. When you see the videos of the fire and in that area the terrain is extremely rough (camped in the area many times) one can understand that about all that can be done by fire fighters is to try and protect homes, otherwise let it burn.

Supposed to be 77 tomorrow and maybe some more afternoon showers.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow! Prayers for those that need them Angel

Chuck....Batten down the hatches.   We are in for a bad storm tonight and early tomorrow morning.  It could get noisy after midnight.  Tornado warnings in Indiana and it is a huge storm.  Watched Indianapolis TV from the web and they were really concerned.  Just hope the night air cools it off.  It is also snowing pretty good in Michigan on SJ and Charlie.

Good evening guys.  Yeah, this site is a bit slow....I think I have my 14kbm modem around here somewhere, maybe it will match the site and they will both be happy.

John and Ray, have to agree with you about the folks who would burn a church down.  A few days before our movie "Fireproof" came out, two girls tried to burn ours down by breaking the glass on a door and throwing a Molotov cocktail in the door.  It started on fire, and quickly burned out...all on video, but the video picture was not clear enough to get a positive ID.  They looked in their early 20s.

By the way, for those who have rotating tools like a Dremel, but not Dremel brand, they have a give away for free adapters to be able to use Dremel brand attachments on the other brand."

sir james I

Good Evening

Just a quick hi and I'm gonna grab some GRITS.  S.J.

Busy day at the pond.  Sawing broken tops and trees.  Some, I had jump back from as the were under extreme tension and "kicked back".  The Stihl ate them up.  Found blue styrofoam insulation, yellow fiberglass insulation, metal top from a roof vent and a NY baseball card.  Now this had to travel for miles as none of this came from close by. The tornado had lifted up, skipped houses in the Village of
Rolesville subdivision and then came down at the pond.  Then had to rush home and shower for town board.  Just walked in.  Tired!!!!!

Downstairs bath is coming along.  Tired of walking upstairs.

Site is so slow, I walk off and come back to post.

Good night.

Good afternoon all,

It's warm outside but very windy again.  My son's first regular season baseball game is tonight so I'm hoping the winds die down before it starts.  I don't have much going on at work today but I am about to step out of the office for a little while which will be nice.  The in-laws come in tonight to watch the son's game.  They will spend the night and then tomorrow while I'm at work, my wife and her mother will surely rearrange our furniture.

Laz - Thanks for the information on Barry's shop.  I will hopefully call them tomorrow at lunchtime.  I want to see what buildings they have in stock.

AF53 Ray - A win is always a win.  The Red Sox are starting to play better which does not sit well with me.

Good day,

Joe
