Good Mornin' Ya'll from Frigid Taxachussetts,

Here it is, March 3 and the temperature is 8, but if you factor in the wind chill factor it feels like -7.  Might hit the high 20s today but will dip back down to 6 tonight.  These overnight temeperatures are over 25 gedrees below normal for this time of year.  I took Maximus the dog out earlier.  Normally he runs the perimeter of HIS yard to make sure we have had no enemy invading forces from the South (Chief) but this morning he cut his routine short, got down to business, and then bolted back to the door and the warmth of the house.  To this I say......thank goodness for global warming, or the temps would be worse.  Al Gore still has not returned my phone calls.

Wife got up in the middle of the night last night.  The next thing I know she is adding another comforter to the existing layers of bedding.  An hour or so later she is sprawled out, lying on top of the blankets while she has piled the rest on top of me.  Sweating commenced, for me.  Mind you, the automatic thermostat overnight setting has not changed in months. Bang Head

8N......danger!!!!!!!  Wives have memories like steel traps, so anything you say or do now to harass your convalescing wifey will be held against you in HER court of law.  And NO, you don't have the right to an attorney. Big Smile  Superchaged Cobalt SS.....that's the way to go with the price of gas headed the wrong way.  Thumbs Up  Ours took a $ .16 scoot in the past week.  Regular now at $3.37 per gallon. Super Angry

Did you ever notice how quickly gasoline prices rise, how there is always the "reason" of the month for the oil companies to rapidly jack the prices?  Why isn't there a corresponding rapid reduction in prices.......ever?  Or a reason of the month why gas prices are falling.  I know there is a valid reason for this. Super Angry  My fuel oil prices are the highest they have ever been, and the cost to heat the home is out of control.

Brutus......I feel sorry for your children.  But it is comforting to know they get good grades in school despite all of your "help."  Is Char practicing her road rage skills?  Or is she the prototypical woman whose resilience compensates for her time away from the wheel?  Smile

Jon......read your post about the Chief.  I feel bad, owe him a phone call or three.  But I hate to bother him when he is out there on the road loafing working so hard. Whistling  He bailed me out big time last Fall from an afternoon of total boredom.  You see, the wife wanted to (unnecessarily) drive about 50 miles one way to some huge outlet Mall South of Boston in the middle of nowhere.  I decided to take along the pup Maximus, stay outside, and get in some training work on that beautiful Fall day.... out on the Mall parking lot perimeter "in the real world" around people, cars, and distractions.  Then the Chief called and saved me from an afternoon of total boredom.  Before I knew it my cell phone battery was on "low" if you know what I mean.  We had a great chat and it helped me pass the time while the wife's shopping went on endlessly (redundant words) and beyond (surprise and shock!!!!!).  Was afraid the dog would die of old age in the parking lot before she finished her shopping and the Chief finished giving me the business for being a "Nawthener".  Wink

SJ......no grass will be seen here for the foreseeable future.  Snow cover remains and the below normal temperatures are making sure it stays that way for a while.  Would you, DougM, and Navyjack please stop sending me your Arctic temperatures?  Do you know what happens when I am standing outside in single digit temperatures in you pajamas?  Coat isn't effective for those parts of the body. Whistling

DougM........saw where the Chicago Police Commissioner is stepping down early.  Wonder if he sees the handwriting on the wall with Rahm E. about to take over the reigns there.

MikeC......was glad to hear your life is getting back to normal.  But you don't have us fooled.  Remember.....old guys like you don't "get back in shape."  They simply burn off a few calories here and there to slow the continued, unabated encroachment of their spare tire. Smile, Wink & Grin

Joe......your wife and you make a pretty good team. Thumbs Up  When one goes down with an illness, he/she can relax knowing that the other will come in off the bench and handle the kiddie matters all by themselves.  Make sure she has plenty of chocolate near the bedside.  Hope she gets well soon.

LAZ.......the pup must be growing and adding weight in leaps and bounds.  Is Minnie in better shape than you?  And does she like your beer de jour? Wink

Rich.....slow and steady with that Road Runner (convertible = rare!).  383 with the 4 barrel or the 340 six pack?  I don't recall.  Was watching the Mecum auto auctions on cable this past week and thought of you as they auctioned off some exceptional MOPAR iron from the late 60s and early 70s.  Road Runners.  Challengers.    An original, metuculously restored 1969 Hemi Charger fetched $115,000!!!!  Englishtown.......now that brings back memories for me from the mid 1970s, Summernationals. Thumbs Up

Dennis.....I just figured it out.  With your schedule you also have to schedule your bathroom breaks now, right?  How does that work? Whistling

Fife......I just got to thinking.  What do you do with the yachtchet if you relocate to WV?  And as a consequence, how are you supposed to entertain the rest of us out on the water?  We need to see your plan before we give you approval. Laugh

I've been scouring the news for word from the Chief's exploratory committee, testing his viability for a run for the Presidency in 2012.  But I can't find anything.  Guess they are waiting until he gets out of jail back from from goofing around working on his trip.

Chuck.....not much out of you recently about your "sessions" at your health club.  Does that fall under one of your categories: "errand" or "project" or "chores?"   May we assume that you are keeping a low profile for discretionary purposes?  Or are you waiting for us to buy you a new digital camera as an early Father's Day gift?  Dennis found one for you, $2,600 without the lens.  Wink

RaySP......I kind of figured a guy like you would be seeking out a sports medicine orthopedist for your knee, after seeing the pictures you posted of you hopping around at that train show a few months back.....like a kid at the NFL combine.  stay away from Don and his neighbor.  Poles are dangerous. Whistling

SubBob......see any aliens on the scope recently?  And are you making any progress on the Corvair van?  Isn't that motor turbochargeable?  Was that an MGBGT I saw in one of your photos, the white one?

RT.......I can just imagine how exposed you are every day to the crud working in a health care facility.  Hope you are feeling better.

JimmyT......did you give up on that other Probe GT?  You know.  36/24/36= 96, the year of that car. Whistling

Later, gang.

Jack

No, still stalking watching.  From the looks of things, you got the numbers right.Smile, Wink & Grin  I am going to get a tube of RTV this morning so I can get the front valve cover gasket on my GT replaced so I can step things up.

RT,

        Hope you feel better.

Oh and don't let the dog near a medal pole when he's busy. Just a safety tip.

Morning everyone.  Heading in late, no case today, but do have a meeting later.  We are making some product changes and hopefully improvements.  One thing about medicine is that there is always work being done to improve.  Don't want to jump on a bandwagon until the results are proven, but do want to deliver the absolute best care.

RT, they were right to send you home...you need to get better!

8N, a little advice....wives have a long memory, and there will be payback, so tread carefully!

Been reading up on some aerial photography as we are planning a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon.  With any luck, and perhaps a bit of knowledge heading in, I will get some good shots.

Do hope that each of you continue to have a good day.

JACK,

Yepper MINIE is about 27 lbs. at 5mo. and 2 days.  Eats like a horse and is constanly on the go.  We're thinking of getting one of those shock collars for we live next to a state road that has a fair amount of traffic on it.  Cabelas has them that can be used up to 400 yrds.  We'll see.

WIFE and blankets are the same here in Millersburg, She's always freezing cold and I'm one hot guy.Confused.

RockIsland - The sailboat is paid for.  The kids love it, and not all plan to move/settle to WV.  As long as I can swing the annual slip fee, we'll keep her.  Plan to use her in future extended passages between the Upper Chesapeake and the Hampton Roads.  Plus, gotta show the grandpups how to be a Pirate.

...and as for fuel prices: Rockets & Feathers.  The sheep-herders in Annapolis wanna pass a 10 cent a gallon additional tax, because the teflon leprechaun has been raiding the transportation fund to balance the budget.

Laz.....we have found the ecollars the most benign tool in the dog training bag if you are first trained properly and use it correctly with your dog.

You see folks getting dragged down the street getting walked by their dog.  Or chasing their dogs, calling them repeatedly without so much as a glance from their dog.  You see strays and lost dogs.  You see loose dogs hit by cars......this happened to one of our elderly neighbors when her beloved poodle accidentally got out, blew off her recall, and ran out into the street and traffic.

The dog was struck and was killed by a car right before my eyes.  Picture that elderly woman, sitting on the ground, weeping uncontrollably, while cradling her dead mangled dog.  Accidents happen all of the time where the dog gets loose and blows off a recall.  It only has to happen once.  It doesn't have to.

One of the things i like best about the ecollar..... with or without a leash on your pup, you can correct your dog and then show them the right behavior, even if they decide to initially blow you off.  They learn quickly to respond to your commands, on the first command, and to keep their focus on you/your voice/your presence.

What you also find is that the required stim level keeps dropping as the dog becomes consistent responding to that first command.  At the lower levels it is like a mere tap on the dog's shoulder to refocus her/him on you, despite any and all distractions.  With our dogs over the years, we have gotten to the point where we didn't have to hit the stim button for months at a time.  The ecollar for most of the folks we know and train with becomes almost unnecessary, and many choose to put them away.

My wife and I would never think of going outdoors off leash with our dogs without an ecollar.  Our dog trainer refers to certain situations as "life's corrections" which are often permanent if not fatal.  Like a dog running out into a street with cars.  Or blowing off a recall when chasing a squirrel or rabbit, then getting lost.  Or chasing kids on bikes (natural prey or herding drive).  Or their approaching a stray dog with unknown or obviously evil intentions.  The ecollar is like having a leash on your dog even when you don't.

The dog's death, dismemberment, getting lost, getting into a dog fight, jumping on kids or adults.......these types of every day occurences can result in expensive if not heartbreaking consequences.  We have successfully used an e-fence and the ecollars for a decade.  No escapes.  No unwanted behaviors.  The dog gets to be a dog and live a stress free life......and in safety.

Some people take a dim view of the ecollar and are not afraid to openly express their opinions.  Most of these are the folks with the out of control dogs and have absolutely no personal experience using an ecollar humanely and correctly.

I have a neighbor like that.  I take great pleasure walking my young guy, totally calm and obedient and focused on me, while she is alternatively vocally expresses her displeasure with my training approach while having absolutely no control over her own dog.....the dog in the equation who is furiously barking and acting aggressively while pulling her relentlessly toward my dog.....the dog  who is sitting there calmly, silently, and obediently waiting for me to handle things.

And to my ignorant neighbor?

"Hey Gwendolyn!!!!  It seems your training methods ain't cutting it with your dog.  Need some advice?  Narrow-minded, opinionated, uncaring people should not own a dog.  That would be you!  Hope you are not permitted to reproduce!"  Smile, Wink & Grin

Good morning all,

It's my lunch break and I just finished a chicken salad sandwich.  The wife makes her own chicken salad and it is quite tasty.  Today's high is 72, and it is sunny as well.  The wife has the older son and baby in OKC today so the older son can get his first allergy shot.  We do not have any plans for this evening.  I'm hoping to run the trains tonight with the kids.

As for blankets and comforters: I usually eat a big bowl of ice cream before turning in for the night which seems to cool me down and balance everything out.Big Smile

Have a great day,

Joe

Good morning all,  A little warmer today but foggy this morning.  Started on medication for the leg pain yesterday and had dramatic improvement in just one day.  It is supposed to relieve swelling and inflamation.  Only have to take it for 5 days.  Just hope it stays well after stopping the meds.

Jack, sounds like you have learned a lot about training dogs. It would be a pleasure to be around a well trained dog like you described.  Incidentally, the 5 collies next door are still with us but the neighbor has penned them up in the rear half of his lot.  Maybe he is giving the grass in the front yard a chance to recover.  However, the effect of moving the dogs has been less barking because they are not tempted by street traffic in front as much.  He is still on borrowed time for three of the dogs though as the city has told him he can only keep two.

Might try to get out to the garage/train room and tidy up a little today.  I need to find a place for more storage tracks on the layout to park trains.  Probably the only thing would be to go underneath but those kinds of tracks are hard to get at to keep clean.

Fife, good decision on keeping the yachet.  Need to keep your hand in as an old salt.  I grew up on the Hampton Roads end of the bay and have been away from it for over 50 years but I still think about it often and miss it.  Out here on the left coast, boats and docking is a bigger problem it seems.  Also there are not the rivers and bays in Southern California like in the East.  I don't like going out in a small boat in the open ocean.  I like a minimum of 65 ft. for that.  Some people have gone to Catalina Island over 20 miles offshore here in something resembling a runabout.  What is it they say about fools rush in?

See ya later Y'all,

Ray

Afternoon everyone,

Mike C., I haven't played competitive soccer since senior year of HS which is just about 2 years ago! I miss the sport dearly! I would love to start playing again because it would kick me back into shape! I used to be perfectly fit and could easily run a mile! Now after a half mile I need to take a break! It's annoying, but spring and summer with greatly help out regarding me getting back into shape!

Picture this.

Here i sit on the deck, 35 Degrees F at 4.00pm, a glove on my martini hand, a heavy jacket on, knee high boots (just finished feeding the cows) enjoying nature - birds (cardinals, titwilder, blue jays, sparrows, wood peckers, etc) at the feeders, Cows at the waters, studying the clouds, scoping out the garden.

No human sounds - people shouting, dogs barking, no four wheelers, no trafic, no planes. Do you think I am rushing the decking season (please don't ask my wife for her opinion)?

Hey Pat:        What a wonderful bucolic image you have given me.  I am so jealous!  Up here in iceburbia, our fine feathered friends don't dare make a peep!   By the way, did you say wood peckers, or pecker woods? I always get them confused.      Confused    later.

Back at work for another week. Should be the last week of training for the new guy. A least we got some decent weather and the receivers are cold. We got somewhere around 8 inches of snow last weekend.

Not much new on the train front. I did bring the 2026 w/ me to work on a sticky e-unit.

Brutus - great news about Char!

RIJack - no aliens yet, but we had a couple of electrical engineers up here earlier. A friend and I re-installed the rear cross-member in the Corvair last weekend. Now I can start assembling the rear suspension. And yes, the other car is a '69 MGB-GT.

Good evening fellas and gals:     Been away for awhile but her goes;   Jr. calls me up friday last and says, "My sewer pipe is leaking! now what"?   So I goes over and sure enough it's leaking like a sieve!   On a late friday nite just try to get a plumber. I did the only thing a red blooded American could do; I swallowed hard and said:   "Jr., get me the saran wrap"!   Well let me tell you, it was touch and go for a bit, then suddenly the waste water(P U)  stopped. Gloating with my success, i just beamed with pride:  just then the oil burner crapped out!  Holy moly gondoly!!  Now what? Dug in again. This garl durned burner aint'a gonna git me!  I exclaimed with renewed fury!  Checked it out and yes you guessed it, the nozzel was clogged. Cleaned it out with a dress pin and presto were in business!    Ever the resourceful and wise father, secretly patting myself on the back, i said "You still got it, you old dog"!  Upon leaving #1 son asked me if i parked in the hole the township was fixing before the snow came, car looks  kinda lopsided?  YIKES!  Sure enough, the front tire was flatter than a june bug on a wind shield!  Only proves one thing, no good deed goes unpunished!   Humbled once again! later.

Think good thoughts, do good deeds!

Hudson#685

Doug, tell us about the Great Grits Caper.

Evenin' All.

Tried finding the photos & fun comments, had to search couldn't remember when, but my eyes got a bit crossed. If memory serves me correctly Chief and the York attendees gathered for breakfast but a certain "Southern Prankster" had arranged for all to be served a generous helping of grits that morning. Cooked Southern Style of course. Smile, Wink & Grin

All packed and staged for tomorrow's museum run. Taking a long string of woodside reefers and my D&H Challenger and a C-420 to alternate runtime.

Later all.

Remember the Veterans. Past, present and future.

Evening all watching blues brothers there now entering the mall.

Okay Dennis I hear you. And when I went to work was hoping I could of worked ( its one of our assignments) in the pots and pans washing area. But now looking back on it that wouldn't of made sense either as I could still affect fellow workers plus yeah the pots and pans would be fine when they came out of the machine till I touch them. Bang Head

Oh well it was a good thought just not thought out. Whistling

Sunny and 60 today.  Supposed to get colder and have snow flurries over the weekend.

Work is getting crazy again.  Looks like I'll be in the plant over the weekend. Will be a tough time balancing the extra needs at home and the extra needs at work over the next week to 10 days.

Never give up, never surrender!  Things will work out somehow.

All for now.

Jon........my Dad used to say "Son, with regards to your family and your neighbors.....you don't have much choice.  You are stuck with them."

Wifey Pam has warned me time and again to keep my mouth shut.  She is mortified at the thought that I just might say something like I posted to that miserable excuse for a neighbor woman.  If she is going to detest me, my dog, and my training methods, I may as well have some fun with it all.  Laugh

Jack.

Jack, please........tell us how you really feel??????Laugh

Much better now, Ray.  Thanks for asking.  After posting, I read Pat's post and followed his fine example.  Drinks Smile, Wink & Grin

Evening All !!!

I've been very quiet recently, but can't hold it back anymore.  Thought you all may want to see a clip of what happens at the LAKE, when the Chief is there.  (explains why he is so tired.)

Oh yeah, it took awhile to get Bill Dance added the commentary.....
