Roy........I feel your pain with the cold weather and the serious drop in your firewood supply.  My last fuel oil delivery early December was 240 gallons @ $3.20 per, and I'm already down half a tank.  The cost to heat a home up my way with oil is over double that of natural gas.....and there are no natural gas lines near me because the gas company won't ever run the lines, too expensive because of the rock and ledge they would have to excavate and blast to get them in.

Jack - YEOW! Bang Head That's rough! Can you convert to Propane? Lot's of folks in rural areas here use propane with a tank out back.

Will be a nice day here but it will be the last one for a week or so. The cold air is coming. Some talk of light snow Sunday.

Brutus - glad to hear Char got her meds finally.Angel

Hope everyone has a nice day today!

Regards, Roy

Pat,

There is a threaded insert in the bottom for a tripod, and Canon lists an AC Adapter in the user guide.

Jim,

I was going by the specs on the Best Buy web site you posted. These specs say no tripod mount and no AC adapter available. I am glad to here otherwise from someone that has the camera in front of them.

Thanks,

Pat

I'll bet there's a municipal restriction against propane - and probably against geotherm or other alternative energy mods.  Worth a phone call to city hall though...

Good morning all,

I had a good trip to Stillwater yesterday.  The Hobby Lobby had some Lionel rolling stock on clearance for only $12; however, I did not buy any since they were all NYC and I prefer PRR or LV.  I did buy some used Thomas the Train items for only $20: Annie; a somewhat working CW-80; three figures; and a whole oval of Fastrack.  The person also threw in a BN caboose.  The track is in great condition and worth more than $20 by itself.  The seller's kid lost interest and she just wanted to get rid of it.

The weather will be mild again today.  It has yet to feel like winter around here.  I have a full plate of work to take care of today which should make the day fly by.

Brutus - I hope your wife's first day of PT goes well.

Regards,

Joe

Hello All TGIF this week seemed to last a month. ANJDEVIL, Great news Brutus, glad to hear the Mrs continues to improve. Quick check on he way to bed. We got about an inch of Snohio last night and some flurries today. Mid teens tonight and 24 predicted high tomorrow. Working on snowplow till son has to go to work tomorrow. Then I'm gonna start taking down outside decorations. Five new feeders are going to arrive sometime in the morning. Planning to run some trains on Sunday after I finish the outside stuff. Inside can wat a while. I enjoy sitting and looking at it Jim that looks like a nice camera. I'm looking for one with a little more optical zoom. I'm off to bed. Prayers for all those in need.

Good evening all,

I worked longer than I wanted to for a Friday, but I was still able to get home early enough to enjoy dinner and a movie (The Lion King) with the family.  I was also able to run the trains for about 15 minutes with my 7y/o and 7-month old sons.  I let the 7y/o do all of the controlling tonight while I held the baby - he thoroughly enjoyed it.

I initially was not paying too much attention to the Sugar Bowl as it looked like LSU was going to have an easy win, so I read a few chapters of a book.  But now I see A&M is making a game of it so I will probably watch the rest of it.

Tomorrow morning I will take the two older kids to Lowe's for the Build and Grow workshop.  I'll check in after that.

Good night,

Joe

Snow flurries in Saint Louis today, but nothing big.  Signed up for 5 OT tomorrow.  Char had her physical therapy today and they will keep coming a few days a week until she is up and about.  Dad is at St. John's rehab facility and will be there for 2 to 3 weeks.  My friend Jeff is doing great for an old retired Navy Chief.  He's only sad because he can't have any beer or bourbon for a few days Laugh  He's not supposed to smoke, but that lasted about 2 hours after the actual surgery.  Sure hope he heals up fast!

Tardis is ready, so let's hit it - I have an early night tonight!

Another quiet night collecting photons. Finally have the scope to myself. The computer types left mid-afternoon. Worked on an AM/FM tube radio that I want to use in the garage. Built in 1966, about a year before me. Must have been one of the last mass-produced tube radios.

Set up the N-scale track for the first time. Boy is the locomotive tiny. It's a USRA 0-6-0 that is brand new. The transformer is an old MRC unit that was brand new in the box. How old you might ask? Well, it was made in the USA.  Funny thing was that as soon as I plugged in the transformer the loco took off. And the throttle was in the off position. And if you move the throttle there is no change in speed. What the...? Turns out there is something loose in the transformer. Must have broken loose during shipping. MRC uses these funny three pronged sheet metal screws to hold it togther so you can't get in there. They did not consider Bob, a drill press, and a screw extractor. That will be tomorrow morning's project.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold and snowy 18 degrees. Going up to 28 today with more snow.

Today is an easy day. I plan on running trains , later, after chores. Got my new Williams reefer car yesterday. It is a beauty. The one pictured in CTT. Great graphics. New uncoupler system. Not bad for 28 bucks.

Dining car is here for the usual breakfast.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

33 and snowing at exit 77 (GSP) already an inch or more going to accumulate to who knows how much!

Nice and quite day today with a little project of sevicing my AF 312. The reverse unit sticks a bit. Never had this apart as I only got this a few months ago and all I did at that time was oil and grease.

Jim - Your new camera took nice pics earlier, I believe you had serviced a 312 before, anything unusual about it? This 312 has the reverse unit in the boiler and smoke in the tender (I believe it was built '46 or '47, will find out soon).

Good morning all,  just checking in but not much to report for a few days.  I haven't been up to par healthwise for a few days suffering from UC but it seems under control now.  Suppose to go in for colonoscopy pretty soon.  Not looking forward to that.

Ran some trains for a little while last couple of days just to keep the rails polished.  Tried taping a movie yesterday taping over an old tape.  All I succeeded in doing was wiping out the old thing I taped over but recorded nothing but a blank.  Might have something hooked up wrong with new TV and cable box.  My VCR/DVD player still plays things back OK but the record function is B/O for tape.

Jim, I sympathize with your old navy buddy, at least about the smoking.  It took me a long time to give it up but finally after my last surgery three years ago I was able to kick it.   And now after all the horrors of that habit have been exposed, they want to legalize pot.  Unfortunately, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.   Sorry didn't mean to preach.SoapBox  I suppose we all deserve the dignity to make ourselves sick.

Have a good weekend,

Ray

Hello all

Been an interesting day so far. I was just getting things going and one of our police officers came up to tell me about Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. I just got off the phone w/ a very good friend of mine who is her cousin and on her way to Tucson. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

Ray,

There isn't much of difference in servicing an SIT 312 from any other Gilbert steamer.  The only thing is that there isn't a lot of room to work around the reversing unit in the boiler.  Working on the smoke unit is also similar, but I replaced the leaking bellows in mine with a cylinder kit from RFG.  I'll try to get an operational comparision video together with a '47 SIT 312 and a '48 SIB 312 when I get a chance.

Bob - just read about that, how terrible and sad!  I hope she pulls through and pray for all those who were shot and their families.

Anj - congrats, man!  Glad to hear you have something lined up at last!  Gotta start contributing to Chief's SS!

RT - hope you feel better dude, didn't know you got hurt!

I just don't even talk to Jeff about the smoking any more, he'll have to make up his own mind one day.  HIs wife did quit a few years ago -- we all prayed for her and she came through a bout of cancer and has been clean for 3 or 4 years now I think.  I smoked for a couple years during and after college, but quit when I met my wife.  She didn't like smokers Laugh

So many posts, so little memory!  Sure hope and pray we are all doing well and having some fun with our trains!

TARDIS is ready and finally watched the DR WHO CHRISTMAS CAROL, which was really good Smile

PS - JIMGP, I got Need for Speed Hot Pursuit today after trading in a pile of old games, so maybe I'll catch you online Smile

Glad you liked the Christmas Carol episode, Brutus. Happy for your jobs, Rich! Daughter and bf made it back to OH - looks like South Bend got the most snow ever in one day. Boy, I remember some big snows there. Buckeye, hope your work project gets better.  Glad you're OK, RTChuck, what's the new coupler system on your Williams car?

Well my friend made it to Tucson and saw Gabrielle after her surgery. They have positive hopes as she was able to respond to commands before the proceedure. Now it's just prayers and time.

Couldn't get to sleep last night so I got up and worked on the transformer. Those pesky screws didn't go easily, but in the end they were no match for a determined man w/ power tools. Was an easy fix. The rheostat is wound on a ceramic cylinder which snaps into place between 2 brackets. Must have come loose in shipping and I just had to snap it back in. So now it's after 2AM and I have a working transformer for a train I have yet to runWhistling The little switcher (emphasis on the little) runs good. I have been running it today on occasion. Seems to be running in well. Would love to run in via DCC, but all things in time. Now I just need some cars to pull...

I also found a good deal on a Williams NW-2 in UP colors. Very similar to a unit that is in the Tucson yard. My first diesel w/ a horn, can't wait.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 20s.  An interesting day.  Wife went to Indy to go shopping with oldest and I went there as well to go to train show at fairgrounds.  Train show was mostly a washout (did get some parts for some tinplate switches), but trip to IMS museum was very good.  Anytime at the track is time well spent, and I enjoy browsing the cars, but as I was leaving they were giving away posters with the pictures they shot last fall of the 33 winners they lined up on the track. Totally freaking awesome!!!!!  Will get framed and hung in the appropriate place.  Also picked up a pack of playing cards with pictures of all 4 of AJ's winning cars on them.  Way cool!!  Came home and watched videos on Cool TV (interesting channel on one of the digital antenna stations).  All in all it was a good day.  DougM, you are right about the LCT catalog.  Way neat stuff, and I wish I had the space and money to buy it all.  Some of the O-gauge tinplate is just as cool as the Standard Gauge.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
