Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny Taxachussetts,

Sorry for my absence, but I could not get the holiday treadmill to slow down.  Had a housefull here Christmas Eve, and it was 2AM by the time we got the place cleaned up.....then had to be at the Daughter and SIL's by 7AM for the kiddies opening up their gifts from Santa and the Christmas Day festivities.

The blizzard arrived the next day and it snowed for 24 hours.....lots of digging out.  During the week it was necessary to keep shovelling drifting snow, widen the driveway, and clear the street.....the three to four feet to the curb the plows missed (the heavy compressed stuff Bang Head) so our New Years guests would have some place to park.  Since we were having some elderly folks, I had to start chopping ice and packed down snow in several places so they wouldn't take a header.  Weather warmed up into the 50s to help the process along, and it was a balmy 50 degrees to start off the New Years festivities.

New Years Eve was yet another big one, beginning at 7PM.....25 folks from kiddies to adults.  Four people were confirmed attendees but were no shows with no call or anything.  Whatever happened to the telephone?  Lots of trains running for the kids, and they of course sucked in most of the adults in the process.  When you tell the adults the engines and consists are between 5 and 6 decades old and are still running like new, they are amazed.  Smoke, air whistles, horns, and the sweet smell of that unmistakeable ozone.  Daughter and wife must have served a dozen platters of hot hors deuvres to supplement the chips, dips, cookies, pastries, veggie platters, shrimp, and pitcher after pitcher of some adult high test concoctions, complete with sliced fresh fruits.  Champage and Asti at midnight.  The last of the guests left at 2AM and I didn't hit the sack at 4AM after a massive cleanup effort.  Next to beer, the dishwasher is probably the greatest invention of man.  Daughter, SIL, and the grandkids spent the night here before having breakfast and then making their way home around noonish to prepare the New Years Day mid afternoon dinner.

Wife and I took a brief nap, then drove to the daughter's for the New Years Day mid afternoon feast.  Then we all made our way to a relatives' place for yet another massive evening buffet dinner and another houseful, fortunately not mine.  I could not even believe the spread they put on with two kitchens being worked.  The wifey and I were running on fumes and barely hung on, home by 10:30PM with the wifey fast asleep in the car all the way home.  And I missed all of the college bowl games.  After letting the dog out at 7AM yesterday, I slept till noon on the couch with the dog (wife upstairs in bed snoozing away), then watched the NFL playoffs while continuing the holiday cleanup around the house.

Laz.....you old geezer you!!!!  Happy belated birthday to you, and I hope you had a good one. Happy B-Day Cake  What?  No puppy for your birthday? Sad  Steelers look ready. Thumbs Up  Was this the same Browns team that handed the Patriots their lunch earlier in the season?

Banks....prayers for your Mom. Angel  It was good to hear that her problem was not more serious. Thumbs Up  She needs to drink more?!? BeerWow Yeah Smile, Wink & GrinDrinks

Chuck is a batchelor this week?  Party!!!!!!! Smile  We can celebrate Traindaddy's birthday!!!

Happy B-Day Happy birthday Traindaddy!!!!

Fife/Mitch....Ravens are the team most New Englanders fear in the AFC.  The Pats are a little banged up, so the first round bye is "sorely" needed. Laugh

SJ.......Fife is right.  The Lions missed the playoffs by a matter of points which, if scored, would have them in the playoffs right now.

DougM.....the Bears worry me as the offense looked anemic and the offensive line porous.  Cutler was lucky to escape intact.  We've been embarassing our kids from their teens and the subsequent two decades to the present.  We have a lot of material to work with.  For example, you will get a lot of mileage out of the fire plug story.  Wink

DougDG.......more rain for the California boys?  When will you catch a break?

Welcome traindood!!!!  Thumbs UpWelcome

RT......you need to start your layout.  Where are you going to put all of this stuff?

Rich.....was glad to hear your time with the Princess was great.  Hope your new/old wheels are doing fine.

Later, gang.

I've got to be the last person coming on after the New Year!  Sorry 'bout that!

Doug - Like the TARDIS definition, where did you find it?

Our New Years was quite enjoyable, wife and I went to dinner and 2 movies on New Year's Eve, was really enjoyable.  And it was all on gift certificates we had received over the past year.  Spent New Years Day watching the parade and working on a layout design.  (Not mine).  Yesterday, we worked for a partial day until we got rained out.  Then met with a friend to discuss the layout plans, and ended up starting all over again.  Finished the "Last" version last nite, hopefully it will be the "ONE".

Just saw on the news the price for Disneyland went up today, the price for LOCALS is $99 per person.  Don't think we will be there anytime soon.

Its raining again/still and Interstate 5 is closed about 30 miles north of LA due to snow and blizzard like conditions.  Should ask Bob, How is it we have had more rain than we have had since 1896, but were still in a 10 year drought.  Seems the analysis of the record keeping should be revised.  Were floating here and concerned about a drought?

Seems Laz got a little older recently, with all that jogging just don't wear out the knees.

Still waiting for the valve to fix the plumbing problem, HOPEFULLY it will arrive today!

Having some folk over for a train demo on Wednesday, so need to get the room cleaned and dusted.

Most importantly -- Hope all you guys and your families are doing well,  looking forward to a prosperous and healthy New Year!

Don

Found the TARDIS definition on the BBC website. Whilst wikipedia.com has a nice summary of the series, there's much more on the BBC site.

Good morning all and Happy New Year.  I'm about as slow as D Baker getting on here after the 1st.  Spent all day yesterday after church getting new HD TV hooked up and watching it all day.  The picture is much larger than our old set and much more sharp.  Wow!  I can't believe what I have been missing.  Watched two movies and a one and one half hour train video plus a lot of other programs yesterday.  I am getting a headache from looking at TV too much.  Tried cutting down the brightness on the screen but it doesn't seem to help.  Maybe this will just take some getting used to.  Anyone else had this experience?

Still raining a little this morning after heavier rain over night.  Snow level in mountains is supposed to be down to 1500 ft. in some places today.  We are suppose to have sunshine for the rest of the week.  I'm ready for that.

Have to figure out what to do with my old TV which is like a piece of furniture with the TV built in.  Suppose I could just sit it on the curb with a free and it works sign and somebody will take it.

Have a good week y'all,

Ray

Bought more gas for the snow blower today, in anticipation of the three days of snow, cold and wind that's predicted, starting Wednesday.

But I'm counting my blessings. This is an extra-happy New Year for me, since I retired in April and this is the first apres-New-Year since I was six years old that I didn't't have to go back to work/school after the holiday.  It was a l-o-o-o-n-g time coming.

I got some email from one of my still-working former colleagues, saying "today was the Mondayest of all the Mondays in the year," and I know just what he means.

As a kid, I always found it sad to take down the train platform after the holiday season, packing the trains away in their familiar boxes (the cardboard a little more tattered each year) and sending them back to hide in the attic till next December.  I am grateful that as a grown-up collector, I can now leave the trains up indefinitely.  Funny the things you carry forward from your youth.

I wish a very happy and prosperous and healthy New Year to one and all.  I have learned some very useful things from this board, and hopefully shared some things that will help someone else.  May we all still be saying this at the same time next year!

Hello all and Happy New Year!

Had a very busy fall, Christmas, and New Year. No time to post. Tried to keep up a bit. Hope all are well!

Been cold here and have almost burned half the firewood for this year. Burned it all last year and that was a first. Looks like this year we will run out long before end of the cold weather.

Have a great day all!

Congrats on the retirement Arkady!  Wecome Dood!

Cold in Saint Louis, but actually not too bad out later in the day.  Colder weather is coming though.  Didn't talk to Dad today, but heard he is doing okay.  They are adjusting medicine.  Wife is doing pretty well and a lady is coming tomorrow to see her about physical therapy.  She'll get a few weeks of visits here at home and then will have to go to them, so we'll see how that works out.

TARDIS - I knew that from years ago.  I think Tom Baker explained it to Leela or something?  Those were some great shows, wish they would show them on BBC now.  A slightly different DR WHO than the current generation has known I guess.  SPFX were certainly different - lots of cardboard props etc!

Well, my TARDIS is ready and the beacons are on the screen 4 x 4, so we'll be there shortly to get everyone - LAZ can drive!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

New series of Dr W starts 9th Jan. BBC3. Don't know if you can get BBC iPlayer? Runs most programmes about 12-24 hrs after streaming on live TV.

Hope your missus is winning her battle....Thumbs Up

Good dark early morning to Y'all!  Been quite busy lately.  This is the first full day I have had off since the middle of December.  I will go in later, but I have only one case to be there for.  Still have a few reports to finish for the year, but at a much less hectic pace.

Sorry I missed your birthday LAZ, hope it was a good one for you.  I see we have a few new faces here...welcome, tis a nice place to come and sit a spell.

Chief, any word from those cameras?  hope you are able to catch the perp without incident.

Well, I didn't get anything with flanged wheels for Christmas, but did have a good time with family.  Did have to work a bit, but nothing too bad.  Worse part was having the flu while being on call and still having to go in for emergencies.

Better run, but I will check back soon.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 20s.  Work was busy but unfortunately interesting yesterday.  Some one who I respected and admired very much was terminated yesterday for reasons I find hard to believe.  While I realize there are two or more sides to every story and I have only heard one indirectly, it was very upsetting to a lot of people who are still here.  Obviously I cannot go into details, but...........   On the bright side, several minor issues on the home front were resolved.  I also went to the YMCA for the first time in a while.  I got on the scale after not going for most of November and December, and I weighed......about the same as I had when I was exercising.   Hmmmmm......go figure.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive after "V" tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is 23 degrees. Going up to 34 today with a chance of snow.

Today is a busy day. Lots to do. Wife may not  come home until tomorrow. Weather does not look good for that. After chores, I have paperwork to do. Have to renew my membership to the Fitness Center, where I have PT.

Dining car arrived from "Points West". The usual Cheerios is for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Mornin' Newcomers.  Mornin' returning regulars.  Last "mild" day before it gits frigid again in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Tis the hardest stretch of the year for me.  I could probably work out in the field forever, if I could just spend Jan-Mar in the tropics. Aloha. Sunny and cold in Chicago. Went browsing in the Art Institute yesterday at lunch. Hope to again every day through Feb. It's free! My winter class starts tonight. Glad to have it to teach. That means a long day though. No joy yet on a 'colonies' version of BBC's iPlayer, John, though I hear one may be developed. . .

Good morning all,

It was a hectic Christmas and New Year's season for me which prevented me from posting as much as I normally would.  I hope I did not miss too much.  Things have calmed down and life has returned to normal; it's good to be back on the forum.

I received a Lionel UP GP38 with Trainsounds for Christmas.  I will post photos of it this weekend, and maybe even a video.  This is my first locomotive with Trainsounds and I think it is very cool.  I should also have updated layout photos to post as well.

That's it for now,

Joe

Well it is up to 55 today and sunny! 50's predicted for rest of the week. But the word is there is a big chill coming next week from the West coast - thanks Don B!

Got a Lionel Holiday Store Box Car and the Lionel Tank Car Spill Accident accessory for Christmas. I was a bit surprised as I thought the tank car accident accessory had movement, but it only has blinking welding lights. The Holiday Store box car graphics are nice.

Hope everyone has a great day today!

Great Holiday with Grandson, Daughter and SIL.  Ran trains everyday on the floor or on the layout.

Discovered that my Daugher now lives only a few blocks from Trainworld in Brooklyn, NY.  Yes

Did my 10th PT yesterday and finally able to walk without pain.

Wireing more switches to the SC-2 controller.  It is so much fun to watch visitor's faces when I run the trains and do the switching with the CAB-1.    Can't say enough good things about E.R.R. TMCC system except it makes my Williams Locos just creep down the tracks.

Have a good week.
