Good evening all,

Snohio cannon was aimed at Indiana all day today, and then a deep freeze tonight.  Long day today.  Left for Indy at 5 AM with dad.  Scope took 3 hours today.  Good news, bad news.  Good news is it is a miracle dad is still alive.  Connection from stomach to intestine was a string's width.  Wonder he has not starved to death by now.  Ballooned and stented that.  Stented the bile duct as well as it was really narrow.  Bad news.  Appears cancer may be from colon and that is what is pinching duct work.  Doctor today had great bedside manner.  Talked to me while dad was still "out".  Basically 3 months tops.  Can make him comfortable, but......  Told wife, sister and kids.  Will have meeting this weekend to discuss options.  Wife and sister will meet with local docs Tuesday to discuss results of Monday's biopsy.

I am sincerely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.  Page after page from all of you.  Words fail me.  As I said, long day and I need to get to bed.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Brutus,

It was fun playing NFS today.  I'll see if I can recruit some of the guys from work next time so we have more competition.

Hit the job hunt hard today.  I have gone from frustrated to determined now.  I need to get these resumes in the mail in the morning.  Spent some time on the PGT tonight cleaning and getting the alternator out.  Almost there.  I ordered a new OEM dipstick to replace the original due to the top being broken, and I need to get oil and a filter tomorrow weather permitting.

MIKE C.

Continued prayers for you and DAD.  Lost my DAD in '98 due to stomach cancer, so know what you are facing.  It's tough.  Give him lots of love.  Hug him a few times and tell him you really love him.  I did for my POP.  I really miss him, and talk to him every day.  I also always say a prayer for him everynite whereever he is?  Remember all he's done for you and enjoy all those fun times and cherish all the other times he was a bit more wiser then you.  It's a tough thing MIKE.

hey all 44 here this morning. I'm off today ( normal day off) but work the weekend and Monday. but I'm off super bowl Weekend Yes

Not much happening today think I will get some track out and set a loop up for my trains. Hmmm I have 042 curve and O31 might do a double loop on the floor for the time being. No switches in fast track thou yet not sure I want to go that route yet. trying to decide what track I will be using when I do build my actually layout. I have a fair amount of gar graves but if I go with switches may get Ross. (O-54 and O-42 curves enough for a 1 1/4 circle of each)

hope all have a good day or at least a better day than yesterday was.

Mornin' Fellas.

MikeC - Prayers for you father. I can't imagine what you are going through.

Not much going on around here other than work. It is JERSEY day so I'm decked out in my Mike Wallace jersey! Get a little ribbing from the loosing fans around here at work but hey, what can I say? Smile

Hope to get into the train room this weekend. Want to get started on the curved stone arch bridge and the mountain behind it. I also have been thinking about how to build the mountain under the coal mine and I think I need to redo some bench work underneath it... not looking forward to that as it means a bit of work. Speaking of benchwork, I noticed the other day that a new section is sagging, so I need to firm that area up as well. I'll probably work on two areas at once because the coal mountain is going to take some time to build, so probably work on the base for the town as well.

Morning all.  Did not get below freezing again last night.  Going to change today.  Yankee cold air invasion.  Might get above freezing tomorrow and Sunday but not sure. Crying

Had a great time at the range yesterday.  Also another new rifle arrived yesterday.  Putting scope on and have to shoot in.

Off down east to the house to start cleaning it out.  Going back tomorrow.

Wifey went to see the Lion King production and raved over it.  Slept late as she got in late.  She just left.  Later

Good morning all,

Our trip to OKC yesterday went well.  We had received about three inches of snow here, but down in the OKC area they received some ice before getting an inch or two of snow.  The folks in OKC do not know how to handle that type of weather so there were some accidents and every school was closed.  We drove cautiously and had no problems.

The two older kids were scheduled for allergy testing, but our son could not complete the testing due to having a minor asthma attack while we were at the allergy/asthma clinic – at least we were in the right place when he had it.  Our daughter is pretty much allergic to everything and in about six weeks she will have undergo more specific testing and our son will hopefully undergo his initial testing.  Our daughter did very well even though she was pricked and stuck over 25 times.  The specialist slightly altered their asthma medications and also believed our daughter will need to start weekly allergy shots at the next appointment.  I had to have them when I was kid and stopped getting them when I was about 12.  They worked because I do not have any allergy or asthma issues whatsoever now.

After the kids' appointments we stopped by a Hobby Lobby and Whistle Stop Trains for a quick look around.  The Hobby Lobby had some Atlas O rolling stock on sale for $17 to $22, but I did not grab any since I need buildings right now more than I need more rolling stock.  Whistle Stop had the screw I needed for my Lionel 4-4-2 loco, but I was unable to do any more shopping since we need to start driving back to Enid.

It's cold outside and it will stay that way all day.  I have much work to finish today since I was not in the office yesterday and I may have to leave early since my wife has to pick up a friend at the airport.

Mike C. - Continued prayers for you and your family.

Good day,

Joe

Morning all!

Mike C - so sorry for you and your family. I lost my parents years ago and like LAZ said, I do not think a day goes by where I do not linger on some comforting thoughts about them. They are always with you in heart and spirit. Many prayers from our family to yours that this goes as painlessly as possible for your dad.

Cold here, fell close to 20 last night. A little horfrost on everything this morning. Will be in 40/50 during the days and below freezing at night the next few days.

The family and I are going to a play tonight with some friends. Dinner prior - Italian!

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Good Morning

Cold 7 degrees w/ sun. Lite coating of new snow.

Mike C I'm sorry to read about your dad,  cancer is a terrible thing and many in my family have died from it. I would rather die today from a heart attack than live 2 years with cancer. I had prostate cancer in 1998 and am still here so i guess god doesn't want me yet. Probably cause I'm so grumpy. Everyone have a great weekend...S.J.

Aloha all. A tad brisk at - 10 this morning. I think that was - 25 with the breeze. Ah well. Energizing!  We had a successful sojourn into Chicago last night. Just got held up for the Pres. of China's motorcade. Good jazz. $27 for 2 hours parking Wink but I'm certainly unused to eating dinner at 10 pm. Visited with folks from my long stay in Hong Kong almost a decade ago. Got home at 1.  Prayers for you and your dad, Mike C. Like others here, lost my dad and know what this feels like. Glad for that doc's manner. Joe, allergies sure stink. Your kids are real troopers. What's with this day off for a light dusting of snow, Brutus? Wink

MikeC.....read your post late last night and wish there were something to say that would be of some comfort to your Dad, to you, and to the family.  It is hard to accept that each of us eventually becomes the patriarch of our family, a position we never wanted.  The wise words of others struck me, make every day count with Dad.

Greetings from the home of Winter in New England,

Looks like another 8 inches of Snowhio here today at the entrance to Cape Ann.  Gale warnings in effect.  The snow is falling pretty fast but should be out of here by noon with sun later this afternoon.  This snowfall will push me to about 55 inches for the Winter so far.  DougM and Navyjack's frigid sub zero temperatures will reach me Saturday and last into  Monday.  Expect -8, coldest since 2005.  Then I think of the image of DonB mowing his lawn which he posted about a few days ago!!!  Bang Head  Chief........your words of encouragement during these incessant snow events has sustained me. Whistling

My wife is a mini-celebrity of sorts, appears in the February issue of Doberman Pinscher Magazine with pup Maximus.

Laz......Congas on the arrival of Minie tomorrow!!!!  Someone joked about you spreading papers on the floor and cleaning up after the pup.  We never ever encourage a pup in this fashion because then you just have to reverse train them to only go outdoors.  Puppies are good for an hour for every month of age.....except they have to go out after exciting activity or a nap.  Crating helps because the pup whines, doesn't want to go where they sleep in their private den, and learns to give you an audible warning when it's time for a pit stop overnight.

Snowblower issue with "sudden cutout" seems to have been rectified with a Napa brand gas and gas line treatment, main ingredient is isopropyl alcohol to eradicate any water or condensation in the gas.  The concensus at the auto parts store was bad gas (got it from Sunoco) because there were no issues until I bought "fresh" gas and no other plausible causal factors.  Banks, Roy, Laz, DougM, SJ, Buckeye, and DougDG, and Brent.......thank you for the input, as usual you guys were on target, and the fix was simple, cheap and fast.  And Chief, thanks for the link!

Charlie.......you dodged a bullet with that woman who went into a diabetic reaction and planted her car in your office!  Glad you and her are ok.  I showed your pictures to my wife and she exclaimed "OMG!!!!!"  Then I shared Granny's comment posted by SJ..... that your desk looks messy, and Pam cracked up.  That led to the wifey and I absorbing what Fife noted about driving abilities and a person's independence.

JimmyT.....wife wants to buy us a new combination camera (point and shoot versus DSLR) so we can shoot quality digital photos AND video without having to draf two cameras around.  I showed her your trains video using your new Canon.  While she was absorbed in the video sharpness and sound, I pointed out that since you had four loops under your Christmas tree, I should add more next Christmas.  That did not go over well.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Dennis.......glad to hear your eye issue continues to improve.  Ya only got two!!!  I must remember to wear protective lenses when working on the Christmas tree next time.  How many of us have gotten poked in the eye crawling around under a Christmas tree, either adding water to the base or monkeying around with the trains.

Big surprise Saturday when my family gathered, brought tears to my eyes.  My son bought me a Lionel train engine for my birthday which he found sitting down in a display case at my local train store, Northeast Trains of Peabody MA.  He doesn't have a lot of money because he got laid off from his job and is struggling.  So for him to come up with this gift idea takes on special meaning for me.  He knows how much my trains mean to me.  The thought will stay with me, and the engine will become a mainstay in my modest fleet.  It is a Lionel (18927) US Navy 65-00637 NW2 Switcher from 1994-1995, decked out in the factory yellow with black lettering.  Condition C8+, looks like it was very lightly run, nearly perfect.  I plan to assemble a consist of Navy-themed cars over time to go with it.  I searched the Bay and see there are powered and non-powered matching  "calf units" (18938) and a 1994 set that included this engine (11745).

Later, gang!!!!!!!!

Good morning everyone.  Getting ready to head in .  Mike, glad they were able to stent him, but sorry about the news.  It will be a tough few months for your family, but times like this are when the love really shines in a relationship.  I will pray for God's comfort and peace to each of you.

Jack, great story.  Usually, it is us who give such a gift to our children.  Hope he hears good news soon with regard to a job.  Still a tough market to find a good one.  Such moments with our loved ones create memories to hold onto for years to come.

It is a beautiful day so far.  Dropped kids off at school and bride and I went to work out at the gym.  Blue skies, nice and warm....a perfect day to enjoy with family.  We will be getting out to enjoy the day with some friends this weekend, but the temps are supposed to drop, so I hope that we can still have a good weekend.

Take care,
Dennis

Good Afternoon All

Good luck on the job interview Jim, Hope it works well for you!

Waiting for the window regulator to arrive for the Buick, should arrive today.  (Sent the unused Honda one back for a refund.)

Still have plenty to do waiting for the Buick part.

- Need to see what's up with one computer, it won't boot.  (P/S is ok, may have to go to shop)

- "Check Engine" light came on in the van, not to be confused with the EGR, so who knows?

- Need to rework some Oak TV trays, they are very old and the legs don't want to stay on.  Think will secure some nylon locking nuts in them.  Everyone has tried to fix them, now its my turn.

- Think I have the "plumbing" problem solved.

Eventually will get out to the train room.  Funny, with everything else the trains are really a high maintenance hobby.  Sometimes I wonder.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Later

JT - You referring to the pully? If so looks like the bolt may be rusted tight. Get some Liquid Wrench, apply to the bolt on both sides of the arm. Let sit for about 10 minutes. Then place a box wrench on the bolt head, get a piece of pipe that fits over the other end of the box wrench and give it a go. That is what I used to do prior to the air ratchet!

Once you have it out, it looks like it could use a good cleaning and reconditioning with a good couple coats of engine paint!

Hello all

Back on the hill. It took me a few days to catch up. Was a busy, but good week off. Need to get better about checking in on the Pot on my off weeks. Got the oil pan re-installed on the used engine that is going back into the Corvair. Now I just need to transfer the sheet metal. Broke loose the transmission from the original engine. I am going to put the 3-spd back in w/ the 3.55 diff w/ the temporary engine so I can rebuild the 4-spd and 3.27 diff.

Lots of doctor's appointments and what not as well. Still getting used to the new medications.

Mike - thoughts and prayers for your father, you, and the family. I lost my father to liver cancer when I was 20. Enjoy the time left with him and carry that in your heart.

Don - glad you got the windows under control. At least it didn't require reloading MicrosoftDunce

Ray - I recently bought a new car w/ manual windows.

Oh, and the Chief doesn't use a block of wood, he tried to fill the door w/ grits...Whistling

JimT - have fun w/ the alternator. I helped my brother do a water pump on his 2.5 and that was plenty interesting. What was that about having an eye on the end of your finger? And nice videos BTW.

RIJack - glad you are weathering the storm. And if you keep the output from the snowblower headed south, you shouldn't have any more problems.

NavyJack - so your son is joining the Seabees?! Sounds like they will make him a Builder, which was my rating. As far as advice, my stint was almost 20 years ago, but I imagine he will be seeing too much of either Port Hueneme or Gulfport. Guam should be interesting though.

Dennis - glad to hear the eye is healing and that was a cool link.

Well, the NW-2 didn't show up while I was offGrumpy. Guess it will be there waiting for me when I get home.

An old friend who I tinker w/ radios with turned me onto a garage sale w/ some electronics last weekend. I found a Simpson 260 meter for $5. I brought it w/  me to see if I could get it working. Did some research online yesterday for schematics and found that there were two versions of the 260 series 3 (ca 1958). The 3A was made for only a short time and only about 1000 were built. So I take a look at mine and find it is a 3A unit. Cool.

Brent,

Right now, I am trying to get the alternator out, although that pulley is on the list as well.  I still need to move the a/c compressor out of the way just to have enough room to get the alternator down.Dots - Sign  There is oil everywhere from before I replaced the front valve cover gasket that I've not cleaned up yet.Laugh

Bob,

I did the timing belt, hydraullic tensioner, and water pump three years ago, and that is quite a job.  The fact that there is little room to work (so what else is new?) makes it that much more fun.  I still regret not being able to buy Tom's Bimini Blue 93 GT.  If I was closer, I would've bought it.

I've got an interview Tuesday at 11AM.Big Smile  I've got my fingers crossed.

Good advice. I would only add: rap the bolt a few times with a hammer during the 10  minutes. This helps the Liquid Wrench penetrate.
