Don, what a story! I would not let Chris near a car window with luck like that. At least my own car window problems in my old Buick is just about door gaskets and rubber window trim. The windows in that car are just manually operated. I hate powered windows for the reason you describe when things break down. If it were possible, I would even buy a brand new car with manual window cranks.

Hello: just read your story about the window. what a howl !! sounds like me! there is a sign in an auto repair shop that you may have seen; it goes something like this: if you ask for advice, we charge double; if you ask questions we charge triple; and if you hang around take your business elsewhere!!
Think good thoughts, do good deeds!
Good Evening

dbaker48 Morning All Mike C - Best wishes and prayers for your family and Dad !! SPRay, Your going to love this. The window saga... - About 2 weeks ago Chris indicated the Drivers window wouldn't work on his Honda. I seemed the motor was bad, window would lower than just a "clicking" sound. The motor and regulator are one assembly, found it online for $60. A week later it arrived. - We scheduled a day to install it, of course I was NOT looking forward to it. Chris jumped right in and began the disassembly. He had some problem with 1 bolt, getting the wrench on the head. It was well hidden. Finally get it off, and remove the old unit. Started putting the new unit in, over an hour spent on getting this same bolt restarted. (Didn't have to be removed, just loosened.) Finally, got it in, then he had to leave for work. So I take over, the same bolt seemed tight, however I could not get the window to fit right, front edge was not snug. In checking found that the new unit was binding. Checked the old unit and it would operate fine. So took out new unit and reinstalled old unit. During that found out the problem bolt goes in a nylon clamp at the bottom of the glass. It goes into a knurled KEP nut that is pressed into the clamp. And of course it is stripped! Try to check and see if I can buy the clamp and reafix it to the window. No luck. By now we have at least 8-12 hours spent on this. So I decide to call in the professionals, find a local shop take the car there. The guy said your original regulator is fine, the window WILL have to be replaced, and the problem is caused by the rubber window rail (in the door frame) is warped causing the binding. It too will need to be replaced. So... - Aftermarket Regulator $60, (can be returned) - Window Glass $75 - Rubber Window Rail/Guide $78 - Installation labor $60 (Rail, window, everything) So IF would have gone there 1st I would have saved at least $80 plus time. Tell the guy to do go ahead, and do it, Monday evening, job to be complete on Tuesday (it was). THEN, Tuesday morning Chris comes downstairs, and he had borrowed Mom's Buick on Monday evening, and that there is a problem with the rear window !!! I take the Buick over to the guy when I pick up the Honda, and he says the cable is broke on the regulator!! Suggested I get original parts, and labor would be $70. (Wife wont let me and Chris near her car with a screwdriver or wrench.) So check prices, OEM regulator $280, aftermarket $59 !! Needless to say I'm ordering the aftermarket. The owner of the shop suggested possibly put a block of wood in the door to hold the glass up and not use the window, immediately I thought of the Chief, this would be something he would do. Anyway, I'm turning in my "Mr Fix-It" id, I just can't keep up! On a positive note, my friend Bob came over to run some trains last night. He brought over a MTH FM that all of a sudden wouldn't run. Asked if I would look at it before he sent it to MTH. He had been using it on his Christmas layout, the engine would go about 3" and stop, back 2" and stop. I turned it over put some jumpers on it, and found excessive fiber wrapped around the drive gear, and axles. Was able to pull the fiber out and engine works great. I didn't offer to try and fix his ZW problem, he thinks there is a loose ceramic part floating around on the inside. Oh what fun ! (Back to the plumbing issue, still working)

Hay, I think the block of wood is a fine idea! I remember the 1960 Chev 6 cylinder I had. Leaked oil from a missing valve cover screw and I had no money to fix it.. Stuck a cork in the screw hole and it lasted for years.

Charlie,
Glad you are ok.
Mike,
Banks,
I won't be able to make it to the show in Monroeville this weekend. I'd have liked to try to get that 314AW whistle control box back though if the seller still has it. Still mad at myself for returning it and the gutted 314AW.
I've been back on the job hunt because I am getting more frustrated with each day stuck with a minimum wage job while having an engineering degree. No luck yet.
I still need to get the Christmas layout out of the living room, but the PGT is apart in the garage resulting in no room for the boxes for the Christmas decorations. So, this means I am not under pressure to get things back to normal right now. Need to finish getting the alternator out though.
Good Evening, Guys...
Been spending a lot of time at work. Couple that with fire duties and I have been a tad busy. Work is going well and I'm on a guarantee so my learning curve is going easy.
One of our neighboring Fire Dept. had a young volunteer killed in Afganistan. Purple Heart & Bronze Star winner at the age of 23, killed by an IED. The wackos from Kansas are planning to disrupt the funeral, but it seems that the public will deter that thought....I though 2.5" fire hoses would be more than appropriate....
Also in another close by township we had a double fatal fire, two kids 27 & 32 perished. Mom & Dad were rescued by 2 brothers in blue, the parents are in serious condition. The cops couldn't get to the 2nd floor where the kids were.
Mike C. praying for better news..
for anyone else I've missed.
Is there football being played? Not that I know of......
No much with the trains, but at least mine are safe and inside storage!!
Had rain, snow, freezin rain..you name it Monday & Tuesday and today was 40. Tomorrow night 1-2" of snohizio...go figure .
Will check back when I can...

Good evening guys. Just a quick stop in before heading to bed. Joe, our church did a movie on marriage a few years ago called "Fireproof". We had Kirk Cameron in the lead. Many folks have used it for a marriage counselling tool.
Rich, How about a stick in the air with a "Black Widow" nozzle tip on the end...spray those westboro folks with 1000 GPM! That would dampen their parade. Sorry to hear about the hero earning the medals and sacrificing. Also, the boys back home have been telling me about Camden...they had a bunch of lay-offs, hope they get rehired, but also hope that it doesn't interfere with your chances in Baltimore.
Roy, thanks for the kind words. My eye is doing much better. I do still have a bit of tenderness and itching that is caused by the nerve re-generation. Should be all done within another week or so.
For those who use NetFlix, they are planning on dropping the DVD cues and making everything "instant" via online and player units, like the Wii. Many folks not happy about it. I just hope that they have plenty of added titles to the On-Line availability. Many of the shows I have selected were only available on DVD.

Good evening folks,
We just returned from Bible study and finished getting the kids in to bed. The baby is still up but he is easy to contain at this stage. Wednesdays will be a late night for us since Bible study lasts until about 2000 hours. By the time we get home and get the kids settled in it will be time for the wife and me to turn in for the night. We had a nice turnout for the study, 11 couples. That is good considering we only have about 150 folks show up for Sunday service.
Dennis - We are using a study titled Marriage without Regrets. It is a Precepts study and is very inductive.
Probe - I am sure you will find something you are more qualified to do soon, and I commend you for sticking with a lower paying job you are too qualified for; it shows a great deal about your character.
Chuck - Please aim the snow cannon this way tomorrow anytime after 1600 hours.
It’s time to get some sleep and get ready for our drive to OK City tomorrow.
Good night,
Joe
Good night all. A good day. Enjoyed the big walk with pack and rifle for about two miles. Tomorrow AM, off with new shooting buddy to a big private range to shoot rifles. Shooting in new Varmint Special scope on .22-250. Finish zeroing new .22 bolt action. Then check .223 and .243.
Off to bed. BTW: real warm outside. Big full moon but no "dogs" hawling that I can hear.
Howdy guys - we're scheduled for all that snow that is not gonna fall on Chief. Someone needs to check that targeting computer!
Good luck with the job hunt, JimGP. They say that it's easier to find a job if you have a job, takes the pressure off.
Don - glad you got it fixed anyway. Sometimes it's cheaper to pay them to do the job, but not always.
School was already cancelled for tomorrow as the snow storm is moving in on us.
TARDIS is ready, so let's hit it guys!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
hey pat, when i was in ca in navy, i had a 73 caddy, black on black, leather interior. i bought it from another sailor and got a great deal. one of the power windows went out, and a junkyard motor was 100 bucks. since that was two weeks food budget a chief engineman put in a block of wood to keep the window up. your story reminded me of that as i remember we put in 10-12 fruitless hours trying to fix it before we used the wood. i know it sounds redneck, but it let me keep the window shut on the cheap. navyjack
A not too cold morning here on the beautiful North Fork.
Plenty of snow still left on the vines, with some more predicted for tomorrow morning.
My now 20 year old '91 Saab 900 still kicks it through the snow, that car reminds me of how well
my PW Lionel steam engines do compared to some newer generation ones.
Now allow me to vent.
I got a call at work from the assistant I had at my last job (I thought he was calling for a reference), and
he suggested I turn on our local radio station as they were reading the police report.
Turns out a former co-worker of mine was arrested for stealing from his employer, by writing
a company check to pay for a very large personal bill, and other things along that line.
I don't get it, this guy is 67 years old, wife, kids, grand kids, and now he is facing a very
serious charge, not to mention out of work.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is 34 degrees. Going down to 30 today with snow later.
Today is a busy day. I have an errand to run this morning, before the 4 - 6 inches of snow comes. Then, I will do a few chores and take it easy.
Chief... It's going to cool off by you and there's a chance of snow. Roll up your windows.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Thursday.

Morning. Jacket weather but warming. Off to the range. [Yankees can't say that as they can't find it under the SNOW]
Yankee cold coming this weekend and a SLIGHT chance of snow FLURRIES.
Later.
Snow day! They closed my office - wow! I expected a delay, but not closing. Time to make some breakfast and enjoy a nice hot cup of joe while watching the snow fall outside - TTFN!
it is 12 above zero now going down to -9 tonight. gigi will be home all day and i will listen to her play the violin. pat would love it when she charlie danielsizes. expensive to replace all the bows though. stay warm...navyjack

I would love to hear her Danielsizes. I would provide the bows!
Good morning, enjoying a nice morning with my bride...watching Criminal Minds before heading in. Got a delivery of a MTH train station yesterday and some more on the way. At this point, I really just need to get some people to populate the layout.
It is a beautiful day here. Supposed to get into the 60's and no sign of buckeye's snow cannon.
Have a great day.Dennis
MikeC........you have my sincerest prayers for your Dad's prognosis, for the family, and for yourself. JimSP said it best. Prayers, patience, and acceptance. I might add persistence. I've been through this drill with my own parents and found that worry and wondering got me absolutely nothing. You will be the best son and the best advocate for your Dad (and the family) if you are informed, at an emotional even keel, and don't cross bridges before you come to them. Easier said than done, but it has to be done. Hang in there, buddy.

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Good morning all, starting on clear liquids only today to prep for my procedure tomorrow. So far so good. I didn't even miss breakfast. Just had a cup of coffee about 10:00 AM and that was enough.
Big space launch today at Vandenberg AFB according to local news. Suppose to go off around 1:00PM in the afternoon. Don't know if we can see the contrails from L.A. area or not but will take a look. This is suppose to be the biggest type of rocket they launch over there and will make a lot of noise.
Did not get in the train room yesterday but maybe today since I need to do something in place of eating. Have to start the prep flush around 4:00 P.M so need to do trains early. Will be busy later on in the day.
Regarding the car window story, I will have to shop around for gasket prices etc. If it cost more than the car is worth, I will just keep using car cover when it rains. Its only a second car anyway. I think the car will be qualifed to become an antique in a couple more years. Maybe it will become a collector car if I hang on to it but I doubt it would be worth much. Who knows?
Watched a movie last night called Cold Mountain with Renee Zeilwegger amoung others. Not much of a movie IMHO but it drove me crazy with all the commercials. Had one about every two minutes. Only good thing was that the period Civil War music was historically correct played by a Reb band near the beginning of the story. The story covered in part the search by the confederates for deserters. By 1864, I think half of the army was AWOL, especially near Christmas and such. I don't think they had time or men to worry about catching deserters at that point. Story did not seem believeable to me. I would have to see the movie again under uninterupted conditions to make a better judgement.
Wish I could send some of the good weather we are having to all you guys in snohio and even places in the South.
Chief, hope your trigger finger doesn't freeze up on the rifle range.
Have a good day y'all,
Aloha all. Ken, that's quite a story to hear on the radio. Sunny and brisk here - as navyjack mentioned, dropping to 15-20 below tonight - that's without wind-chill. Why don't I live in western GA? Of course, my bride and I are heading into Chicago for a work function related to our city'sChinese visitors. It should be a late one.
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
22 degrees and some lite snow, just enough to make rush hour a mess, 7 degrees tonite, glad I'm not in Chicago for -15. No breaking news so I'll just wait with the banilla for Brutus to show in the thingy..S.J.
Evening all.
Dennis I was looking at the scale crossing gates that you got out bidded on but by the time I looked back didn't think it was such a great deal to out bid that guy + shipping so let it pass.
Not a lot going on. My leg/hip is hurting again they took ex-rays today I'm starting to wonder if it might not just be some arthritis I sure hope not. I'm sure pushing those heavy carts doesn't help any either.
Other than that things are going so so here. nothing to jump for joy about ( if I could ) and nothing to go mad about either.
Hope all been having a good week. No real breaking train news should be getting a few cars in this week early next week and then an engine, transfer caboose (both reading railroad) and a NS stock car.
Have a few bids out hope I win one has a TMCC steam engine ( don't have any at present) Southern Pacific but I can live with that as normally don't buy left coast items maybe do a repaint on the tender to a New York Central, PENNSYLVANIA, or Virginian if I win it.
Well will talk to you all later

Hello: here's a great movie for a cold winter nite; or if you live way out west you can imagine it's a cold winter nite. it's all about coal mining and trains and stuff in West Virgina in the 1920's. the movie is from 1987 and is called MATEWAN . some of you may have heard of it. it's terrific! one of my grandkids got it for me. seems there wasn't too many copies made into digitally remastered. anyway, i got one and i'm lovin' it. just a hint; my favorite loco is in it. i hope you'all will be able to watch this flick. so well done, you will want to see it numerous times.a real sleeper. enjoy! later.
Good evening everyone. Was a nice day...Chinese for dinner, real pretty out. Doug, you are always welcome down here. We have four spare bedrooms and two spare bathrooms, so y'all would be covered. Thaw out for the winter. We do have a few days of cold, but not many. We just had the Quail Unlimited Celebrity Hunt, but the visitors are gone.
RT, yeah, I placed my max on the crossing gates, but someone thought they were worth more than I was willing to pay. Good luck with the steam engine. It will be nice if you win her. Traindood, I will place it on order for NetFlix. There is a town in Jersey by the same name. Sparta is a nice area. I used to be on staff at Morristown Memorial.
Time for bed. Hope everyone has a blessed night.Dennis
Bride went in to work, kids in bed. School cancelled for Friday. It is snowing pretty good now and the ground is covered again. It is a very heavy snow. It will make driving to work and from work for my bride interesting.
Continued prayers fro Mike's Dad and Char, and all others
May God bless
