Hi guys,
Well somebody already posted about the snow in NC yesterday, but I'll add to the story. I leave near Charlotte and drove out to Raleigh for the TCS show/sale on Saturday morning. Great ride, me and some tunes, trains to run at the show, and a little sunshine for the trip.
I left Raleigh at about 3:00 and it was a full blown snow storm, coming down fast enough to deter visibility. A good thing no frost in the ground the roads were just wet. Of course that didn't deter the 4 or 5 cars I saw that had managed to lose control and spin out into the median, the shoulder or the guard rails, nothing real bad fortunately, just fender benders to let us know winter is coming.
The show, oh yeah that was good too, bought a few parts , and ran some trains with our club. Photos will be on the ACS Gaugers page, under Carolina's division soon.
Have a great Sunday,
Aflyer
Evening all
What a fast weekend. IT was fun though. Got snow on the ground. Put up some decorations. Life is good.
Good night and may God bless
Jim
JimG97P - love your video, very cool accessory
Thanks guys - we're doing pretty well considering everything. Got her cleaned up a bit today, shampoo and stuff. Watched some Ellery Queen tv shows with Jim Hutton, which she really loved. I made a big breakfast with suasage and eggs and biscuits. Then I made her favorite dinner tonight and also baked her some homemade bread from an old Frugal Gourmet book recipe. It's just a simple recipe, but always comes out great. Nice chats with RT and SJ today and tonight, too
Tardis is ready and I see a lot of beacons on the screen
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good night all. I see a new visitor, aflyer, came by. He went to the train show. I opted out. Same old, same old. Unless I need parts or just want to socialize, I do not go anymore.
Rolesville had the longest and coldest Christmas parade in history. Took over an hour to pass by. Wifey, Lucy, Finn and myself were up front riding in the back of the Town Manager's pickup [Finn does not fit in a convertable]. We jumped out and walked back visiting the crowd. We got home and stood in the front yard and waved to the rest of the parade. IT WAS COLD. 40 degrees but the wind was blowing hard. Stayed in and warmed up rest of the day and night. Busy day tomorrow. County Commissioners [re-elected and newly elected get sworn in]. Now have a friendly majority. Christmas tree lighting by me at 6 and Town Board at 7. Tuesday shot as cousin from Hickory coming to go to the farm and visit new renter.
Glad Char is doing good. Keep up the good work, Jim.
Notice that Buckeye is not posting. OSU did not make the football championship bowl game.
Sleep tight.

Good morning all,
It is Snohiozoning in SE Indiana...again. At least I do not have to drive today. I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East". TBIL with lots of zucchini bread for Char. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Congrats to Jim/Char and Fife.
Snowhio all around us here in Central VA, Indiana, Ohio, Penn. NC, West VA, but none here. The secret is our Supper Active Deflector (SAD), more accurate than the one in SC and generations ahead. RT, for a small fee we will let you borrow it to defend off the on slot of cannon fire from that Ohio bunch.
Chief - it works against cold wind as well.

Morning to All.
Busy weekend. Worked on decorating inside and out. Tree is up and the standard gauge set is on the track. I really need to look for a steam engine to go with that set. Maybe I'll find one at York. Put up outdoor decorations for the first time in many years. Forgot how cold it is to put them up. Got some nets of lights for the shrubs out front. Hope the weather breaks enough to get out to set them up.
Really need to start shopping for my wife's Birthday and Christmas. Have some ideas but need to make myself go out and brave the crowds and cold weather.
Take care.

Morning all. Cold front has hit here. Supposed to return to warm temps by the weekend, but I hold little stock in our weather folks.
Chief, I didn't know OSU had a football team????
Glad to hear Char is on the mend. Hope and pray the progress continues.
May each of you be blessed this day.Dennis

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a snow covered 30 degrees. About 3 inches on the ground. Going up to 40 today with some sunshine.
Today is a busy day. I have a bunch of things to do. A few chores and a project. I will be busy until the official nap time.
Dining car is here with the usual breakfast.
Y'all have a great Monday.
Chuck
Mornin' boys. Blue Monday here in the Mid-Atlantic region. That was one hard-hitting game last night. I got a bruised eye-socket and lacerated kidney just watching it from my couch.
mitchie - You can't rush these things. I don't get goin' til the week before Christmas. Great sales, and you don't have to sort through mountains of merchandise.
Hello all,
Mrs Brutus is HOME!!!!!!!!!!! Great news
Good weekend.
Saw a couple of deer, Covered a lot of ground but saw very few sign of deer.
Finally took down the out door fall decorations on Saturday afternoon. Outdoor Christmas decorations are next weekend. Indoors will be evenings this week. Real tree will wait till Christmas Eve.

I have the 755 Talking Station. Bought it on ebay over the summer real cheap. In good condition, not a fixer upper, just didn't come with the button or fiber pins. Which reminds me I have to start looking for those real soon.
As I watched your video for the mail pickup I don't believe I saw the bags "shoot" out when it picked up another bag. Did you modify your car anyway?

Aloha all. A blustery 11 this morn. Bundled up. Though seeing the sun helps me think it's warmer. Good day video-directing church services then drove an hour to an Advent service with the bride. Rooting around for the right train to put around the tree this year. Percy found his scarf.

Morning all. Cold and windy. You Yanks do not give up easy. Above freezing but wind chill below. I have to walk from the parking deck around the Wake Co. office building and Court House which is like walking down town Chicago. BURRRRR Got out Christmas deco tubs from under layout. Got a lot of work to do to clear the R/W to run trains. Boxes of unopened cars and etc on top and on the floor. One day soon I hope. No Snohio here. All gone. Pat, get those hills to block some of this wind chill. Have a good one.
Brutus,
Thanks. I'll get more videos asap.
Ray,
The bags shoot out, but they were out of frame due to their arc in relation to the camera. I am looking for my green 650s, and I'll put them with the matching 718 and make another video. Here is a video of my first 755 from last Christmas:

Good Mornin' Ya'll From A Seasonally Cold Taxachussetts,
Helped the daughter and SIL putting up their outdoor decorations and Christmas lights yesterday......over 6 hours out in the low to mid 30 degree elements, plus the breeze. Conclusion: this is not an older guy's activity when it lacks an older guy's organization, planning, and execution. Let me just give you a flavor.....after an hour of looking for decorations all over God's creation--- stashed anywhere and everywhere (attic, basement, closets, file cabinet (!!!), outdoor shed, everywhere except in the refrigerator---we finally got started. Ran out of lights (bad strings), ran out of light bulbs and fuses (lighted lawn figures), and then the daughter accidentally dropped lights into a bucket of water!!!! Don't ask about the bucket of water outside because their is no logical explanation. Bottom line, as Larry the Cable guy would say, we got 'er done. Off to buy our real tree in a bit at a Boy Scout donation lot......prices flat with last year.
Wife arrived in the UK without a hitch. Weather panic overblown, no issues from her point of view. She was able to hook up with her relatives. Shopping trip planned with her cousin Wednesday night. Returns home Thursday.
Char eating food Brutus prepared......didn't know she likes chili, pizza, and beer.
Fife.....Ravens game a heartbreaker. Sorry! Jets at the Patriots on tap for tonight, should be a good one, both teams 9-2 and the Jets trash talking will turn out embarrassing for them if they lose. Patriots have two key players out with injuries for this one, but they seem to get along with their replacements.
Rich....prayers that today's news is good. We are all pulling for you.
DougM......with the temps you are having this early in the Winter, I don't envy your upcoming heating bill.
Banks and Chief....many of our real Christmas trees come from Canada and North Carolina, I believe, the latter fueling Chief's economy.
RT......I'm think I'm done with conventional hot water tanks. We are on our fourth over 22 years. Currently have an AMTROL (the blue bulbous-shaped ones) with solid temperature retention (well insulated, drops only 2 degrees per hour), quick recovery, and has an impressive warranty. I don't think you will save any money raising and lowering the thermostat on yours. I think it takes more energy that way versus maintaining the correct temperature. You might be better off with hot water pipe wraps, tank wraps, and dropping the thermostat to 125 degrees. I think we will go tankless the next time around as others have suggested.
DonB.....glad your "neighbor" is alive and well. What a great guy you are, thinking of her.
Gotta run
Jack

Good afternoon all,
I’m on my lunch break and I now finally have time to post. It was 18 degrees this morning when I went for my run. I almost chickened out but I’m glad I didn’t and completed the run. I’m staying busy at work and have a full agenda today.
This past Saturday I went to the OKC train show. Unfortunately I was only able to stay at it for about three hours. I could have stayed much longer. There were about 10 operating layouts; supposedly two were O gauge but I only saw one. It was a very cool layout with some awesome Lionel locomotives and accessories. Sadly I did not bring a camera so I have no photos to post. The only item I purchased was a model M1 Abrams tank for my son. There were some tempting deals offered, but not for items I am currently looking to purchase. The item which tempted me the most was an MTH George W. Bush SD90. It looked nice and the starting price was not too high, but I did not have time to talk to the seller about it so I moved on. Oh well, I’ll see what Santa brings this year. And either way, the train show was a great time.
Yesterday, I finished decorating the outside of the house and I also finished putting down foam turf on the layout. Now I need to finalize what I am going to use for my paved roads: roof shingles, foam board, WS paving cement, or sandpaper.
John – Unfortunately it was a Chinese buffet with no duck on the menu. Lowe’s has It’s A Wonderful Life buildings which look very nice.
I need to get back to work now.
Joe

Jack I presently have my tank set at 120 with the new one i plant to get a tank wrap for it also. Talked to a plummer friend and he said most likely whats happening is its 10 years old and its over heating so making more pressure ( like steam does) and its blowing the relief valve just enough cause a consent drip and being 10 years old probably not a bad idea to change it but not necessary could get what they call an expansion tank but thats about 1/4 the cost of a new tank and i need to do some type of rewiring anyway with the way it is jerry rig right now. And I'm not raising and lowering my thermostat I'm putting in a timer to turn off power to it for like 14 hours at a time so from like 9 PM to 11am when its not being used really. And yes it has been proven to save on the electric bill doing so.
With present bills I can't really afford a deluxe type water heater but also being down here my water heater if off doesn't lose temp that quick anyway as we were with out water for almost a day when a main line broke and they were fixing it and I turned off the tank right away when I realized what was going on so I didn't have the chance of burning out the elements but when we got water back it was still plenty hot for a shower.
I need to repair roof too and not knowledgeable on that so will have to find someone that is and pay them not necessary a roofer or contractor but someone that has done it before a few times.
Well working OT today so that helps but there still talking of ending all OT as long as it last thru Feb I should be good. Truck will be paid off then and thats an extra $200.00 a month to help out when OT goes down.
Talk to you all later got to get back to work

Good Evening
27 all day but with a little sun now and then most of the snow is gone. Ah but more expected later in the week. Our 10 year old water heater didn't fail, filled with sedament. And yes I drained it twice every year. Obviously not all of it comes out when you drain. It's already dark out but 3 more weeks and the sun starts moving back our way. Banilla is ready for Brutus and the thingy...S.J.
Good evening all, slow day today but rain is past with some sun this afternoon.
Watched the Sarah Palin's Alaska show on TV last night. One of the episodes was a hunting trip for caribou. She bagged one but missed on first 4 or 5 shots until she finally hit it. The dad claimed the gun was not sighted in after he fired some practice rounds. She changed guns and hit it . The thing that amazed me was why that caribou would stand there while somebody fired 5 or 6 shots at it without moving too much. In my limited experience from hunting as a kid down South, if you fired a gun in the woods, you would not see anything else for a long time. If you missed a shot, the animal was long gone.
Anybody heard about a product called Rail Zip? A guy at the train meet told me they use it for cleaning rail joints to make better conductivity on permanent layouts. Just wondered if that might help my voltage drops in the track in a few places.
Have a good week y'all,
SPMan
Hi, I bought some Rail Zip a few weeks ago, but I haven't tried it yet. Hopefully someone who has used it can post the results.
George
HO guys use Rail-Zip, I never thought it did much for 3 rail trains though.
DECEMBER 07 Pearl Harbor Day, lets never forget.
Good evening all,
We had a pretty quiet evening here. After dinner and cleaning the kitchen, I played Jenga with the kids. After that it was already time for them to get ready for bed. I watched a few minutes of the MNF game, but the Pats were running away with it.
S.J. – You said it. I believe Pearl Harbor Day is hardly on anyone’s radar nowadays.
I should turn in early tonight. The baby has been fussy the past couple of nights and I need to get some sleep in while I can.
Good night,
Evening all. A balmy 17 and dropping. Jack, I feel very fortunate to participate in a little-known "budget plan" where the gas co. (and Com Ed too) averages everything out and I pay the same amount every month - with no admin fee, so the bride can crank the heat and a/c and it all works out.
Good monring all,
It is cold in SE Indiana. Went to a retirement luncheon for supervisor Monday. She will be missed. I basically stayed inside once I got home last night. Wife and I went over stuff we are going to give to make sure everyone is taken care of. May have to do some more shopping, but the grandkids are pretty well taken care of. I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on "Points East". TBIL and I can drive after "Glee". I hope everyone has a good day.
27 here and real windy. Hope all is weel? JETS got a good ol fashion BUTT WHUPPIN last nite, OUCH!
It is a cold 12 degrees. About 2 inches of snow on the ground. Going up to 32 today with more snow coming.
Today is a busy day. I have paperwork to do and the usual chores. Staying inside today. Maybe a nap later.
Dining car is here from "Points West". The usual Cheerios is for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Tuesday.
