Good evening all,

Instead of taking the two older kids to the observatory tonight, I took them to a movie night instead.  The housing contractor on-base showed Charlie Brown and served popcorn and nachos.  The kids and I enjoyed it, and it always makes the wife happy if she doesn't have to cook or clean.

After the show, it was time to get the kids ready for bed.  I have been spending the past hour or so contemplating what to buy for my Christmas present.  I bid on a locomotive last night but was quickly outbid.  It went for about $30 more than I was willing to pay.  Now I am trying to decide if I should still go after a locomotive or other items (buildings, scenery, etc.) to complete the layout.  It's a tough decision.

I'm jealous of all you folks enjoying cold weather and/or snow.  Have a good night all.

Joe

Good night all.  Cat is in the house in mud rooom.  Put up doggie gate and left door open for temp reasons.  Everyone but Finn has settled in.  He wants to bark every now and then.  Burg is not paying any attention and he is the one that does not like the cat.  Long day.  Will not go into details,  Sleep tight.

Good morning all,

It may Snohiozone today in SE Indiana and perhaps all weekend.  Long day at work.  Lots of pediatric cases, which are the worst.  Most of the time there is a happy ending with them.  We do share a lot of laughs, most of which I can not even begin to imagine being able to tell here.  I did some Christmas shopping online last night.  Hope that experiment works ok.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  Continued prayers for Char and all else who need them.  TBIL after the movie tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Aloha all. Amazing how  27 feels so warm after this week's temps. Expecting dirty weather over the weekend and another deep-freeze next week. Well, it should make the Bears-Pats game more interesting.

Spent way too long at the church helping w the choir for the Christmas outreach last night. Expect more than 600 families tomorrow - they get to 'shop' for new stuff just like in a store and everyone gets a big dinner for Christmas too. Prayers for Vince!

Morning all.  Seems the snohio cannons are now aimed straight up.  That means it snohioes on those who fired them this way.  LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW.  Big Smile

Off to a meeting in Raleigh [a deli sandwich for lunch, where's my steak? Whistling].

Warmer today [we "broke" 40 yesterday].  Cat did good in the house last night except for one thing.  Gnawed a hole in the cat food bag for a "midnight" snack.  Dogs settled down and went to sleep.  Actually Burg acted as if he did not care that she was in the house.  Interesting.  Emailed some layout photos to a reporter who is doing an article on me and Christmas.

Have a good one.

Good Morning (?) All,

Dougdg - Regarding the status of the pool, it is too cold up here.  The water temp is around 67, and I've already winterized it.  (Deflated the air mattresses, and stored them in the shed.)  You guys down there are sure tough on neighbors, I can't believe they just burned that house down, seems a little dramatic.  If it would have been owned by a city or county politician, I'll bet it would have been handled diferently!

Watched the recent "I Love Toy Trains" on RFDTV, it has to do with Christmas and Toy Trains, really a good episode.  Angella Trotta is featured, interesting that she and her husband recreated a '50's store in their home.  Very good viewing IMO.

John Baker, Dont give up on me with Skype, I think I will need to make some changes to my computer to incorporate it.

RT - When did you get that photo of the Chief, I dont recall hearing him talk about working a field like that, maybe it was up at the lake house.

Will share one of my more "dumb" issues it took me 3 months to FINALLY resolve.  Bob, (the friend of mine with all the engines and problems.)  He had seen a Beep that I had installed the ER TMCC upgrade into.  And decided he want one, so he bought 3!  Then bought the Mini Commander from ER.  Since I did mine they had changed the unit, unfortunately they dont have the sound card anymore.  So asked if I would "help" him install it.  No problem.  However after I did the installation, I couldn't get the lights on the Beep to work.  I tried everything I could think of, even pulled the unit out of mine and swapped it.  Finally resolved to the fact that the new board had some different programming on it.  Even tried all 3 that he had, same result.  Contacted ER, and Ken indicated that their was some programming features, but was certain the lights were not affected.  Worked on it some more, no avail.  After 2 months, I again called ER and was going to see about sending the boards to them.  Ken suggested I check the light output voltage which should be 3v, for the LED's.  "LED's" !  All this time, I had been trying to get the incandescent lights to work.  (Same as my Beep)  But the newer board only operates LEDs.  All that just to find out I wasn't using the correct device.  Of course, soon as I put a LED in, it operated correctly!  (Assume he won't have a problem with a Green Led for Forward, and a Red Led for Reverse, unless I go buy some clear ones.)

Today is going to be a paper packaging day, found a lot of inventory we didn't realize we had, and going to have a paper sale this weekend.  Probably get roped into putting up a Christmas Tree as well.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Good Evening

It went to 38, snow is gone, but of course it will be back. I did a good thing today, turned the water off to the outside faucets, usually don't remember till the handles are froze and won't turn. The almond chicken I had for supper is coming up worse than White Castles. But I shouldn't have to blame Brutus' dog for that WC odor. Banilla will be waiting...S.J.

Well got erans done and even had time to work on a layout for a 7 year old boy of co-worker ( shes an single parent.) Things tight for her this year. (Pics are on christmas train layouts) still need to screw track down and want to remove all buildings and track first ( everything other than the roads) and spray dull coat on the board to seal the roads and lines to the board.

Not much else happening. Talk to you all later

'Evening, Guys

In the 20's-low 30's today cloudy and gray.  It's been a long week with fire calls and such...and the job search continues....Bang Head.

Finally got my Atlas O 3-B Beer car today to complete my Double Play membership.  I got my Baker Chocolate tanker early in November....I only ordered them, what, in April!

Been slowly consoladating my trains into plastic bins and hard covered cases and so far the amount of excess boxes has dwindled.  My sisters attic is full of my train stuff, which I'm trying to move away from storage and into her attic.  Since my appointment to Engineer, I've been granted permission to move my tool boxes into the firehouse in the Engineer's room and change the locks.  This way I can lessen the storage and have my tools in house (so to speak) for FD repairs.  When that happens, I can get a smaller storage space and a smaller storage bill.

Supposed to be in the 40's tomorrow and I might get an early Christmas present, but I'll wait unitl it's signed and delivered before I open my big mouth or get my hopes up...

It's good to see everyone is doing better here, especially Char.

That's all the news from Exit 8 today, I'll check back tomorrow or later....Smile, Wink & Grin

Smilehello guys now rt you gave up chiefs secret route to the north.  i hope he warns pat in advance of coming on his property as pat has a good aim and there are still plenty of frozen tomatoes around.  if those are gone i bet there are plenty of partially empty boxes of grits to chuck.  ha..ha..pat has to guard his cows against rascals.  does anyone recommend a good camping heater that we can use in emergency indoors. see we have electric heat and there are lots of power failures.  so as to not freeze to death.  i cant drive to motel that has heat like most folks.  thanks  navyjack

Good evening guys.  Been a long day...again.  Kids were playing a concert at a assisted living center this afternoon and I was able to get away from the hospital for the end of it...but I did get to see them do one of their duets.  They did well.  Took family out to  dinner and when we were going to head out shopping, I got called back to the hospital, but that's the way it goes.

We are getting ready for the Christmas event at that park I had mentioned.   Tomorrow morning, we will get set up for the families to have a fun day and for the parents (usually just a mom or grandma) they go and search through a bunch of donated items to get Christmas gifts for the kids, and we have a lot of adult clothes for them as well.  I went by the church this afternoon and they had a tractor trailer full.  Should be a good time and a humbling experience for our kids to be helping with.  There are some families who don't have Christmas because they have nothing....it is our chance to be salt and light.

Chief, I am glad you got that snow cannon facing the right direction, but I think Kevin in Alaska left the door open again.  Still very cold at night here.  Speaking of nights, on the night of the 13th, there will be a meteor shower that is supposed to be spectacular.  If  you have clear skies, they say after midnight will be the best time for viewing it.

God Bless,
Dennis

Dennis, foxes do not like .22-250.  Man that thing is LOUD.  Three down and more to go.  Only thing is, these ignore a caller and a vibrating rabbit. ???????

Got the plastic under the seat cargo hauler installled in the pickup.  It is great.  Should have gotten one years ago.

Staying here this weekend.  Probably go to lake house Sunday night or Monday.  Suppose to be Yankee Cold next week.

Sleep tight.

Morning all, getting ready to head out on our mission.  Looks cold outside!

Chief, congrats on getting the first 3 fox.  Yeah, that 22-250 will make some heads roll!  With regard to the others that are not responding....it may work better to call less, kind of like turkey, call little, but effective.  If that doesn't work, try some scented bait.  Many hunting stores have fox urine, etc.  Good luck.

Glad to hear Char is doing well....lets pray for continued progress and a resumption of regular family activity!

Gotta run.  May God bless each of you this day and in the days ahead.

                                                                -----------

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the *** of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

The cows are out again, oh Dear.

Did RT sneak up here and treat the cows to out Yard shrubs (again)?

Aloha all. Grey and colder again. A few more 'Christmas' shows today - need to take the youngest back for his part in the choir. Then celebrating my father-in-laws b-day. I suspect I'll be called upon to help him with his technological gifts. LOL.  Looks like bad weather heading our way later today and overnight - I'll be sending it on swiftly to Points East.  NavyJack, I sure wouldn't use any camping heater indoors no matter the emergency - the ones I know emit too much carbon monoxide.
